@@BryanElliott_ Yes, 12mm FF. The focal length is a property of the lens and never changes, but the Field of view does. 12mm on FF has a significantly wider field of view compared to 12mm on APS-C.
      12mm on FF = 122° FoV
      12mm on APS-C = 99° Fov

I don't know whether it's just me, but I 💙💙LOVE💙💙 the look of a wide lens like this for RUclips content, it just feels more personal and less like a person is trying to run a business. Obviously all RUclipsrs are running a business, but when RUclipsrs treat it only like business, that's when you lose the magic of RUclips! That's just my 2 cents anyway, great video! 🔥🔥

  • @1859ddd
    @1859ddd 2 года назад +7

Yep, I used the 10-18 on my a7riii as my wide angle lens on a cross country motorcycle trip because it's perfectly compacted for something like a motorcycle trip! I took it to Arches National Park, Yosemite National Park, Golden Gate Bridge, and Highway 101 and it preformed perfect! I posted all of the images to a Sony Alpha subreddit and no one believed me it was the 10-18 apsc lens I used haha. I took that as a compliment. 😄 So yeah the 10-18 is a nice little hidden gem. I'll never sell mine. Though I do own th 14mm GM prime now and that thing is also small and a BEAST for astro and landscapes but that's a massive price difference.

Seems like a great option! Stick this on any other Sony full-frame in crop mode and you're still getting a really useful 15-27mm focal range for vlogging (a Casey Neistat classic). Also, nice to see there appears to be far less distortion that the Canon equivalent, along with the fixed aperture, for not a lot more money!

    • @socratesvela8285

The solution was to use Lightroom lens profile correction. Man your video made me want to go out and take more photos with it.

Hey Matti! Long time viewer but first time commenter here! I love this wide angle look with the 10-18 on a full frame body. This was really good info to know as I am currently a Sony APS-C shooter, but switching to full frame very soon. There is another wide angle APS-C lens that is even better than the 10-18 imo. The Tamron 11-20 is sharper and opens up to f2.8 for better low light and more dof. The only downside is that it has no stabilization. I have no idea if this lens works on full frame or not but i thought that I would mention it since the 10-18 only opens up to f4. Anyways great video as always Matti!

Thanks as always, Matti! I actually use the APSC Tamron 11-20 f2.8 in full frame mode on my a7IV. Around 12-13mm, it's quite usable in full frame mode, and it's super wide and 2.8. It's just not OSS, but that's not a big deal when you're that wide. I actually chose the APSC version instead of the full frame Tamron 17-28 so I could use it with 4k60 on the a7IV. So basically, I can do 4k60 or 4k24/30 in APSC mode with a full frame equivalent of 16.5-30, and I can do 12-13mm full frame in 4k24/30. It's the best of both worlds!

I do the same thing on my R6 with the old school Tokina 11-16mm 2.8. The older Tokina lenses are built on the earlier versions of EF so they actually work pretty well with full frame and do not force the mirrorless cameras into crop mode. Very cool to see another crop lens working on a full frame camera!

It’s definitely a viable option but I think I’d still prefer my Rokinon 18mm 2.8.
It’s sharper, faster, smaller, lighter, and just $280. The only thing it’s missing is stabilization but at least I can stabilize in catalyst with my a7c.

Would this be a good setup for real estate video? I recently bought a zhiyun crane m3 to run with my ihpone 12 max pro. But in time i will like to upgrade to a higher end camera. Was hoping to run the Sony S7 3 or 4 But the normal FF lenses were so heavy but with this alternative im wondering how well it would work.

Matti if you have the a7iv then you can go into crop mode and have a 15 to 25ish lens. Still wider than the 16 but not as long as the 35. Also, you get the 4.6k overspled 4k and the focal length does not change in 60p

So what shutter speed would you recommend for 1fps S&Q mode on Sony? That sounds like heave ND filter I need to shoot outside timelapse

one of my big questions answered!!! thank you for this, Matti! another lens like this would be the Sigma 56 1.4 DC DN, a very affordable option compared to the Sony 55 1.8. Cheers!

Any chance you can do a video on how you organize your music library? All my tracks are just dumped into a single folder and it makes finding music so time consuming. Not sure if I should be organizing by genre, feeling/mood, BPM, etc

So while shooting a timelapse on sony A7Siii with s&q mode with 1fps you mentioned slow shutter speed but could you please tell me the exact shutter speed that you used?

It honestly looked a lot better than I thought even more so the fact it is a f4! Def a nice pickup for people looking vlog. Could start with this and a Sony zve10 then jump into an a7c or a7 IV!

The sigma 2.8 apsc lenses also have essentially full frame coverage. The 19mm 2.8 is a hidden gem for full frame Sony

thanks for bringing this up.. always contemplated this actually... on a whim I bought the SUPER cheap Sony E PZ 16-50mm f/3.5-5.6 OSS (aps-c) to play with for a non intrusive camera set up on my riii its felt a bit blasphemous. but, worked well particularly in my earlier days of vlogging when i was super self conscious of vlogging in public. also on the riii with the apsc mode you of course dont get the vignette.. on the siii I guess the apsc mode is a bit out of bounds.. guessing what it could do on the a7 iv im thinking of getting though thanks for the PRO TIP ;) 😁
