Arthur, comparison to Sony 10-18F4 is a must. It was my favorite and artistically most inspiring lens ever with the NEX-3 and A5100 and I unfortunally was stupid and sold it 7-8 years a go. After that I have had Sigma trio and Zeiss 24F18 and Laowa 9mm but I almost dont photograph at all anymore. When it's about lenses for my A6700 my absolute preference are also Sony and Sigma. Well Arthur, you could be right with your prediction and that another new Sigma APS-C zoomlens soon will follow after this one as part of a series same as their primes. It's very great to see how lens manufactors are taking APS-C more and more serious with more new lens options. Even if i somewhere later would buy a Sony full frame camera. No way that i'm going to sell my APS-C camera. Hopefully this new Sigma lens will also be availible in my country The Netherlands very soon. Would like to try it out!
Tony, the white-haired reviewer, made an interesting crack. He said the A7R5 is the greatest or is the best aps-c camera made. This tiny lens, Sigma's new 10-18mm f2.8 zoom works perfectly with the R5 and I would guess the A7CR as well in crop mode. The pixel count will be the same as the a6700 and FX-30. What a great lineup of cameras. Maybe make a trip to New York, stay away from the city, or New Jersey with all the great camera stores and stock up.

Would you recommend waiting for Sigma 10-18mm F2.8 now or just go with 16mm F1.4? I mainly do landscapes, but I also want to try out astro and street photography
One downside I recently discovered is that (at least in my country) Sigma absolutely will not sell/send parts to repair shops. Any part(s) change means sending it out the country to the central repair shop somewhere in Europe. Pricey, slow and not ideal. I'll still happily buy their stuff and this was damage from a minor fall which was my fault (focus ring stiff / MF not working). re: Laowa, got it and love it but it has very strong vignetting and color tint eating into the image. Requires adding the appropriate metadata to raw files as well as building a custom default profile for PS or LR to automatically fix the vignette on import, in order to save time. The color tint still has to be masked out manually. It's quite a time:money tradeoff if used for profit (interior, arhitecture) with higher volumes of images. Just something to keep in mind if you're looking at this lens.
I hope sigma upgrades the 18-35 f1.8 & brings a much more updated & while at it using latest technology maybe they can make a 1.4 zoom in the same size as that old lens, it would a perfect apsc lens. Also not to mention all the advantages of mirrorless they definitely can pull off f1.4 apsc zoom. I would rather take 1 bigger size epic zoom over 3 smaller size higher fstop & lesser zoom range lenses. Because i have missed many many shots just while changing the lenses. But i have to tip my hat to sigma(zooms) & viltrox(primes) for making endgame lenses for apsc for 1/2 or sometimes 3rd the price of 1st party & most of the time 1st party brands don't even make those lenses.

Yeah man, would be a wise decision if you don't need to upgrade your camera body atm, depending on what type of work you do and considering how capable the a6600 is. 👍
6:00 Sure f/4 on APS-C is a bit dark. In fact F/4 on Full frame captures more light on the sensor than F/2/8 on APS-C. You get 2.35x the sensor surface (864/370), but with half the light intensity you still capture slightly more light in the same exposure time,
With all the greatest respect, Arthur, at 7:30 you missed my favorite best value lens which I'm using all the time on Sony APSC, the Viltrox 13 1.4. It has very few weak spots and with the zoom rocker on my zve10 I can simulate a much tighter shot. 13mm is wide enough for vlogging even with active stabe on but without distorting the image like the Sony 11mm 1.8 prime, which I have owned also. Granted that lens is very compact, but price and the fisheye effect at 11mm make it a less desirable lens in my opinion.
I have the Sony 11mm, its pretty great, but your Sigma is so much more versatile! And one can't really replace the other: Sony's 11mm is often too wide, but it can do Astro. basically, I need both! - thanks for the review!
I am using the Sony 10-18mm f4 . Thinking of getting a f2.8. Can you do a comparison of this Sigma 10-18mm f2.8 Vs Tamron 11-20mm f2.8 (which you said was your favorite when it first came out). Thanks.
I have a Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 and a Sony 11mm f1.8, both of which have a 55mm filter size, and I use filters frequently. This new lens has a 67mm filter size, which is a significant consideration for me as I would need to purchase different filters for it. I prefer not to use step-up rings, and my primary reason for switching from a full-frame (FF) to APS-C is to have a more compact and lightweight setup. For now, I think I'll stick with my Sony 11mm f1.8. I hope you're right about the possibility of a telephoto lens in the future, and hopefully, they'll make it with a 55mm filter size-haha!
Great video! Can you do a video comparing the sigma to the sony 11mm? I'm curious if close focusing distances is similar among other things. Personally I don't like the fact that the barrel is out at 10 mm but I love my 18-50 sigma

@@qwerty-or1yg Well right now you can get the 16mm lens for around $350 or so new or used. I’m glad that I got the lens and love it. It comes down to your needs really. Excited to get this lens for my Fuji. Typically I shoot Sony A7R4 but all of my g Master lenses keep dying. I'm slowly jumping off the Sony train and rebuilding my kit.
Thanks for the review. I’ve been using the Sony 10-18 F4 OSS for years. I’ll need to rent this sigma ultra wide and see how much better it is in comparison to the Sony especially at F8 / F9 for real estate / interior photography. I know you dislike the Sony 10-18 lol.
I am very confused between sigma 10-18 + sigma 18-50 or tamron 11-20 + tamron 17-70 needs for architecture, travel, landscape photography. Do you have any suggestions on which one should I choose? Thanks 🙏🏻
Great video as always. I think the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 should be part of this group. And, I just recently got the Viltrox 75mm f1.2, and that's a game changer. Viltrox is going to be a serious contender soon, I think.
I am planning on getting the viltrox 13mm f1.4 per your video awhile back. However, would you go with that or this new sigma 10-18? I have the sigma 18-50 f2.8 and a tamron 70-300 f4.5-5.6@@ArthurR

Just got this lens a few days ago. Going to take it out for the first time tomorrow. The Sony 11 1.8 was great but I chose to sacrifice the speed for range since they are the same size.
@@superarchangel I did not do a 1to1 comparison at 11mm but I’d wager the prime has to be better simply cause it’s a prime but unless you pixel peep, the IQ doesn’t make up for the range for me.
A Sigma I Series 18mm F2 for APS-C would be the easiest way to jump on the X100V & Q3 hype train! And I guess I would be in, despite the fact that I would really not need that lens 😆
I just got the 18-50 yesterday and so far I like it; this 10-18 may be worth a look too. One observation: The zoom ring on these two cameras operate in the opposite direction. I find this to be confusing / frustrating when switching between my other lenses. Why don't they try to be consistent? Is there some advantage I'm unaware of?
Yup, you're right, good catch. I should have proof read my post but now I've fixed it. I was comparing rotation direction to my other Sony lenses. In the final analysis this is such a minor issue, the lens still performs great no matter.@@TheKentaurion
Curious, how would f/4 be too dark in one format yet sufficient in another, unless you're referring to the drawbacks of high ISO noise in the smaller format? The light gathering capability of a lens at f/4 -- itself -- isn't a diffentiating factor and can be demonstrated easily by using a handheld light meter (which are, naturally, format agnostic.)
Was thinking of getting the Tamron 10 - 20 as I have a Tamron super zoom 18-300, which I love with my FX30. This is cheaper and now I'm not sure. My other option was the viltrox 13ml f1.4
I bought the Sony 10-20mm f4 about a month before the Sigma 10-18 f2.8 was announced. Ignoring money issues, do you think it's worth trading in my Sony to get the Sigma. In some ways the image quality of the Sony appears to be better in the reviews I've seen, but it is a stop slower.
I stopped using the 30 1.8 because I need to stop down to f4 to get rid of the terrible chromatic aberration. Nice to see this is improved but I'm still suspicious.
Hey Arthur, could you recommend a single lens? I have an a6700 with the kit lense. I plan to capture holidays, around the home / kids special occasions and pets etc.
So how would this lens be for group photos or even indoor pictures for family events where one wants a wider field of view. I see you did a few movies. What are your thoughts about that? Any plans for a comparison with the Sony fixed lens 11mm, F1.8? Note that one can achieve 2x zoom with prime lenses with “clear image zoom” (on my Sony a6500 at least which I assume is the same on the a6700). Might that be a better option than this Sigma lens? Thanks.
What do you think about the difference in aperture between the 11mm 1.8 and this lens for astrophotography? Seems like it would make quite a big difference?
I've seen a lot of Arthur's videos. I think he did not include it because he had a defective lens and his opinion was not so positive. I am looking forward to get the 10-18, I hope I will not get disappointed!
Yes, Ive mentioned it in the past, the Sony 10-18mm and the Zeiss 16-70 are two of the worst lenses ever made by Sony in terms of quality control. When you get a good one they are fine (by todays standards even the most well-sorted one is worse than many budget options) but I dont recommend them because based on my conversations and first hand experience, i would say possibly 30% of them may be decentered or otherwise defective.
3 to 4 years ago we had no good uwa for Sony aps-c? Did you mean no good bright af uwa lenses for Sony aps-c? Rokinon 12mm and Laowa are pretty good still, apart from some CA on the Rokinon.
Thank you for your review. I think that is the lens that I will choose with the A6700 that I am going to buy, I hope I do the right choice. I have a D810 that I love, but it's sometimes a bit bulky when I travel.
Recently bought the Viltrox 13mm F1.4, so no longer in the market for this lens, it looks great though and I love to see all the new options coming out for sony apsc :)
@@itsehsanh I like it, it's optically great, I wish it had a clicky aperture ring. I do find it a challenge for photography as i'm not used to such a wide focal length but it's fun to use. For video/vlogging style content it's perfect, really like the F1.4 for that use case and the low light performance :)

Rent?! Lol a 3 day rental is 25% of the price of this lens!
Nice video thank you! In your experience is this or tamron 11-20 better?
ooo, I see it's available for x mount! Maybe my first zoom!
Thanks for the video. Do you think 10-18 is comparable to 16-35 GM's quality or sharpness?
I still rock the Zeiss Touit 12mm f2.8 occasionally. I rarely go wider than the Sigma 16mm f1.4 though.
Wow this seems like a great lens! I might consider this, I do mostly underwater photography and use a Samyang 12mm f2 AF. This might just be better
The 13mm is great. I regret selling mine.
Planning on getting the Viltrox 13mm f1.4. How much do you love it?
I am planning on getting the viltrox 13mm f1.4 per your video awhile back. However, would you go with that or this new sigma 10-18? I have the sigma 18-50 f2.8 and a tamron 70-300 f4.5-5.6@@ArthurR
@@itsehsanh No tregrets whatsoever. It's sharp and has great contrast. It's very well built, but it's quite a bit heavier that the Sony alternatives. I don't have the Sony's, but I do have the Sigma 18-50, and the Vitrox might be even sharper. And you can't beat the price. The online reviews (which made me decide to buy this) are bang on.
Thanks for the review! I am looking to get it myself, primarily for the sharpness and the fact that I want a super fast prime and I do more travel photography than anything else. @@canucklehead28
Just got this lens a few days ago. Going to take it out for the first time tomorrow. The Sony 11 1.8 was great but I chose to sacrifice the speed for range since they are the same size.
Hello, I have the Sony 11mm and I am thinking of making the same change, what do you think?
@@gamadrid I’m personally appreciating the range versatility on the 10-18.
@@Image1Nation Which has better image quality and sharpest and less distortion at the widest end?
@@superarchangel I did not do a 1to1 comparison at 11mm but I’d wager the prime has to be better simply cause it’s a prime but unless you pixel peep, the IQ doesn’t make up for the range for me.
An 18mm F2 pancake prime would also be amazing for Sony APS-C...Hoping that's coming soon.
Is there some advantage I'm unaware of?
it's not that deep man
Actually same direction. Look closely. Wide end to left and more tele to the right. Same on both lenses.
Yup, you're right, good catch. I should have proof read my post but now I've fixed it. I was comparing rotation direction to my other Sony lenses. In the final analysis this is such a minor issue, the lens still performs great no matter.@@TheKentaurion
Thanks for this review Arthur. I've got a dumb question. Why does the lens barrel extend when going to the lower focal length?
Curious, how would f/4 be too dark in one format yet sufficient in another, unless you're referring to the drawbacks of high ISO noise in the smaller format? The light gathering capability of a lens at f/4 -- itself -- isn't a diffentiating factor and can be demonstrated easily by using a handheld light meter (which are, naturally, format agnostic.)
Was thinking of getting the Tamron 10 - 20 as I have a Tamron super zoom 18-300, which I love with my FX30. This is cheaper and now I'm not sure. My other option was the viltrox 13ml f1.4
I was thinking the same! Did you get one yet?
@@MikeHodgkinson not yet. Should be this year.
hey, would it be possible to make a video trying flash photography with this lens? i think the results would be really cool.
This or Tamron 11-20 f2.8 ? Thinking on overall image quality
It looks like a genuine compact alternative to Sony lenses - I think it will be popular.
Do you have a review of the Zeus’s Touit 12mm?
Can you make a video comparing this to the tamron zoom ultra wide lens?
I bought the Sony 10-20mm f4 about a month before the Sigma 10-18 f2.8 was announced. Ignoring money issues, do you think it's worth trading in my Sony to get the Sigma. In some ways the image quality of the Sony appears to be better in the reviews I've seen, but it is a stop slower.
I stopped using the 30 1.8 because I need to stop down to f4 to get rid of the terrible chromatic aberration. Nice to see this is improved but I'm still suspicious.
Damn Tamron just got obliterated
We need a Tamron 11-20 vs Sigma 10-18 comparison!
Love the Austin shots! Plan to drive down and do some street photography this weekend or next
I live in ATX like him I’m a film maker here
is this one good for real estate photography ?
Thanks.
What would the range be equivalent to in a full frame camera?
Is this len suitable for interior and architectural photography. Thank you!
What do you think about the difference in aperture between the 11mm 1.8 and this lens for astrophotography? Seems like it would make quite a big difference?
Would you choose the sigma 10-20mm over the Sony 15mm?
what about the viltrox 13mm f1.4 over the sony 11mm?
Thanks for another fabulous review!!!
After a month of use. Which one do you prefer the Sony 11 mm or the Sigma 10 to 18 mm
Did you make a decision between these two lenses?
this makes me antsy for the 50-xxx likely coming next! Has there been any news hinting at when that might be expected?
Thank you for your review, very informative as usual! What about adding the Samyang Rokinon AF12mm to the comparison? How would that rate?
can you compare it with sony 11 f1.8?
Hi mice video. How about about Sony 10-18 f4 is sigma better ? Thx
the sony 10-18 has in built stabilzation, great for video, not sure why it didn't make your top 5 list.
I just ordered the viltrox 13 yesterday. So happy I was able to cancel it today because of this sigma 10-18.
How are you liking the viltrox 13mm?
@@itsehsanh I like it, it's optically great, I wish it had a clicky aperture ring. I do find it a challenge for photography as i'm not used to such a wide focal length but it's fun to use. For video/vlogging style content it's perfect, really like the F1.4 for that use case and the low light performance :)
Hey Arthur how would you compare it to viltrox 13 1.4?
I see you are stepping up your watch game. Nice GS 😉
Just a lil bit! :)
How does it compare to the Sony 10-18 F4 OSS?
Ooh this would be great in an ef-m mount for the Canon M6ii!
I love my 11mm 1.8 so I don't think I'll change, but more wide angle options = more better
Another great Sigma option
i'll prob get this and the 18-50 2.8 sigma and call those my whole "kit" seems like they'll cover a broad range of uses and I always like the quality of the sigma lineup. Thanks for the great content!
Are you not a fan of the Viktrox 13mm f1.4?
