    Feels like birthday! I love the 18-50 F2.8 with the ZV-E10 / A6700 combo and now THIS comes out?! Wow, I almost pulled the trigger on a 16mm F1.4 last week but this one takes the cake, even if it is a little slower. Way to go Sigma! Seems like they now offer the best affordable APS-C lenses lineup on the market.

    Sigma is really making a mark as the master of small and fast (enough) zooms! A lack of lens stabilisation really isn’t a bit issue with IBIS being so good these days in most new cameras especially with wider focal lengths.

    Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it. I love those Sigma lenses. If they had power zoom it would seal the deal for me. I like to do a lot of work with my camera on a tripod and triggered remotely, so the ability to control the zoom as well (through the app) is very appealing. I still have my eye on the 16-55 F2.8 from Sony for exactly that reason. I just have to decide whether or not the PZ is really worth double the price to me.

    This might not work for everybody, but I like using the Viltrox 13mm f1.4 with the clear image zoom in the ZVE10, plus “zoom with the feet” technique. A bit chunkier than Sigma the lens but the results are very nice and I get an aperture ring.

  • @okaro6595

    It is quite nice as it is f/2.8 even at 18 mm so it works also as a general purpose lens with an ultra wide option. I have Canon 11-22 mm and it is f/5.6 at 22 mm, way too slow in the dark even with IS.

    I am dithering between this sigma and the Sony 10-20mm f4 power zoom. Guess I have to decide whether I want a power lens for video or a manual zoom lens for stills photos for my A6700 and ZV-E10. The Sony would pair well with my 18-105 f4 power zoom. and my Zeiss 16-70 F4. F4 is not bad for daytime outside shots or well lit inside shots. The Sigma would pair well with my Sony 16-55 F2.8 G.for lower light situations.. For really low light I switch to f1.8 or f1.4 primes though. decisions ... decisions ... maybe I should just get both ! LOL ;-) They are quite different lenses after all.

    I did not realise this existed until today.
    I have been eyeballing the 10-20 sony power zoom as I want something for in my studio which I can remotely zoom and that can give the ability to zoom when I am at events instead of being stuck like the 11mm prime (which I also have)
    But now I dunno what to do as this lens will be way better in the studio I would just have to lean over to to zoom it. But the f4 10-20 would be better as a really tiny light weight lens for events outside in the daylight.
    Maybe both? 🤔😏

    Wow what an amazing lens. I own the Sony 11mm and sometimes I have to use clear zoom to make it look less wider or I change it to the 18-55 but that takes an extra effort just to get the 18mm. With this new Sigma less I could get 10-18 in a sec and still utilize clear zoom if needed. I will definitely be saving for it. Mark, what PP setting did you use for your test shots? Looks so clear. As I understood there is no APSC Crop Mode ( bad!) so we use FF sensor but APSC lens and zoom in a bit with clear image zoom to get the vignetting away? so it is a 4k video but in the end it isn't cause we zoom in ? Sorry to ask but I dont get it. Thank you for your perfect videos I love your work and talking style !!!!!!

      Yes you can zoom in on the 11 and still be able to output in 4k. Sony used some kind of pixel shift to enable you to clear image zoom with no noticeable loss in quality.

    Hey Mark, would you recommend this for a travelling lens (landscape, buildings, potraits)? I have the ZV-E10 with a Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 and 16mm F1.4. I usually bring only 1 lens for travelling and more often with the 18-50 cos it's lighter, less bulky and can somewhat zoom, whereas 16mm usually used for taking pics during gatherings/events. Planning a trip to Kyoto, Japan this year and wondering if this lens would be better than the 18-50 or perhaps I should go 70-200 for the shots on the hill slopes of the scenery/temples

      this lens would be good for wide shots, things like your 16 and wider which can be great if you are doing a lot of landscapes. but the combo of your 18-50 and 70-200 will give you so many more options

      If your only gonna use the lens at its widest angle then get the Sony E 11 F/1.8 or the Sony E 15 F/1.4. But if you think you're going to need that coverage all the way up to 18mm then get this seeing how it's a F/2.8 so you can take in more light to handle them low light situations.
      But always remember that primes will always be sharper corner to corner compared to zoom lenses.
      That's the trade off

    Can you do a Comparison with Sigma 16mm PLEASE? I'm not sure if I should take this one Sigma 10-18 or Sigma 16mm. I want it mainly for a studio but using it outdoors would be a nice bonus too. I want to see how much 16mm is better because of f1.4. OR maybe get 16mm and some other lens for 18-70 for outdoor.

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  2 месяца назад

      I had to send the 18-50 back already - but I can tell you that if you do mainly studio work - the 16 1.4 will be much better. It lets in 4 times the light and you will get a much blurrier background

    Hi mark, thanks for this video. Im planning to buy one myself but I would like to ask for your opinion first.
    I mostly focus on product review videos (unboxing , showcasing and demo). I was wondering between sigma 16mm and sigma 10-18mm. Which would be a better choice?
    16mm (1.4f) has better aperture, but i cant deny the diversity and convenience of a zoom lens. Ive been using sony 11mm f1.8 but it just too wide for some of my shots.
    So, between aperture and convenience. Is zoom lens a better choice for my kind of work? Cheers

    Hi, Mark! Please make a comparison between the Sigma 10-18 F2.8 and the Sony 10-20 F4. I'm deciding which one is better for gimbal work.
    Sony's is better for power zoom, extra zoom range and gimbal balance due to internal barrel extension, but the Sigma's has better low lighting sensitivity and barrel doesn't extend that much to be that much problem (I guess). But it would require some testing.
    I want to pair one of those lenses with the Sony 11mm F1.8. So I think the Sony 10-20 F4 it's a better deal for extra range and internal barrel extension with power zoom for gimbal work.

      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  9 месяцев назад

      Yeah. The Sony 10-20 is great for gimbals. As long as you don’t need the 2.8 for blurry backgrounds or lowlight - the 10-20 is great to pair with the 11

    So I got the 11mm f1.8 Sony. I'm not sure why you would prefer this one still after watching the whole video. Could you do a follow up video contrasting pro/cons of both lens? 11mm and 10mm, to me it's very close.... right? I'm sure there's more to it and I don't have the whole information. Thank you.
    Oh and I have to check the in body camera lens correction because I'm not familiar with this. I'm still a newbie and learning everyday

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  9 месяцев назад

      The Sony 11 is better if you’re only going to use the Sigma at 10 or 11. But the Sigma is more versatile and can zoom in so a lot of people will prefer this for photo and video

    • @HagaishiSama
      @HagaishiSama 9 месяцев назад

      The sony 11 f/1.8 is the way to go. But I'm learning working with other photography professionals that a lot of people and some are even calling it semi lazy where they rather have a zoom lens that covers different focal lengths then using a number of sharp primes and they have to move forward or back.
      Don't get me wrong convenient zooms are nice so that you don't have to buy that many lenses is great but I was taught on Primes I will always tell someone that the best wide angle lens for aps-c offer full-frame Sony is the Sony E 11f 1.8

    Thanks so much for this Mark. My version of this lens landed yesterday. One thing I’m finding on the ZVE10 is that neither active steady shot nor manual focus will work with this lens. Just get a “not compatible” error message. Should I expect that for third party lenses with lil” duggie?

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  6 месяцев назад

      Two things: the sigma can use active steadyshot in video. You may be looking a regular steady shot which means “lens stabilization”. So that will be unavailable on any lens without optical stabilization. The active steadyshot crops in so you will notice it. Sigma can be used in manual focus. You just need to put the camera in manual focus and use the sigma focus ring. Make sure you’re not hitting the zoom rocker. That will give you a not compatible message because that is for power zooms like the kit lens

    heres the question....i just bought the a7iv. i bought the 10-18 f2.8 as well for my zve-10. would it be better to use the 10-18 in apsc mode orrrrrrr just spend the extra money on the 16-35 f2.8 or does it matter

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  9 месяцев назад

      I would use the 10-18 and see if that suits you. you can actually try full frame mode and just zoom in until the vingette disappears. The Sony GM lens is of course a better lens, especially in full frame and the stabilization will be better with it but that will cost a lot more.
