      I am planning to include the MV7 in a comparison for sure since they both have built-in DSP, but the PodMic has USB-C and Shure still hasn't updated the MV7 from micro-USB which is a shame.

    Very good review/demo - thanks for taking the time to create and share.
    Just a quick recommendation - When comparing two items, it's always best to hold all variables constant except for what you're comparing. During the portion when you compared XLR to XLR, from the viewers' angle of the video, it appears that you were (1) much closer to the PodMic USB, and (2) were speaking more directly into the end of the PodMic USB, but were speaking into the original at more of an angle. Proximity and angle are both variables that can impact the results delivered by microphones. Not trying to be nitpicky, just pointing out something to maybe pay closer attention to in future videos. But again, overall a well-done video.

    The PodmicUSB has a slighly deeper tone. At $199 USD before I convert to Australian Dollars, I think there may be better USB alternatives. Maybe a USB comparison with others.

    What a great video for beginners like me! I've watched it two full times now, and it has helped me get acquainted with all the possibilities for this microphone. I've recently upgraded to the Rode Podmic USB from a Samson Q2U, and with the help from your video, I've already noticed a significant difference in sound quality, because of the ability to control the microphone better.

      You're right! I was hoping the PodMic USB would allow this too, but tested an confirmed what Rode said - it doesn't work unfortunately. I'm guessing it's not something that a firmware update could address either, probably when the circuitry for USB senses the voltage it disables the XLR output or something like that (would be great if I'm wrong though). Not sure why they omitted that feature. My two biggest gripes with the MV7 are the ineffective windscreen and the fact that they still haven't updated it to USB-C. The PodMic USB addresses both of those issues at a lower price....but then doesn't do both outputs simultaneously. They were so close!

    • @Bryanearthman
      @Bryanearthman Год назад

      @@semiprotech I really wish the MV7 could be updated with a USB-C interface, but the current Micro USB interface doesn't affect my daily use either, and I paid $160 AUD (USD $110)last year when Amazon had a special offer in Australia, plus a local sale, and now I use the MV7 at home and the ATR2100x on the go, these two microphones together cost less than the current price of a PodMic USB now. It's just that MV7 don't come on special offer very often, so still have to wait until the right time. BTW, i bought third party windscreen for MV7 for only few bucks and it helps a-lot.

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  Год назад +1

      Great question - it does seem to work fine with any regular USB-C cable to computers/tablets I tried a few different ones and had no issues. BUT it does not seem to work with regular lightning to USB cables. It works with Rode's lightning to USB cables (SC19) and it also works fine with the apple USB-A to lightning adapter and the USB-A + power adapter. I've been using it with the USB-A to lightning (camera adapter) and a regular USB-C to USB-A cable with my iPhone 14 with no issues.

    It almost seems like there is a touch more “low mid” to smooth out the audio, but it is minuscule. I would have loved to have a tiny low end boost, but this mic is is built like a pickup truck, dependable, gets the job done, and built to last forever! Easily able to get your preferred sound with any EQ’ing skills. 👍🏻

    Do the noise gate and compressor in Rode Central app work if you close the app completely? Or do you have to keep the app open?
    Thanks for the review

    • @semiprotech
      @semiprotech  Год назад

      Hi! Yes, after you set up the DSP in Rode Central, the settings are retained in the microphone so you don't need to have a Rode app open in order to keep the DSP turned on. You can actually set up the processing how you like and then disconnect the microphone and plug it into a different device and the settings will be retained.
