    Dude, I was about to go crazy and throw your microphone. I was starting to think the whole thing was a marketing gimmick. Since I received it, I have been reading the booklet that came with it and trying to use it with applications. It's a joke that everything is so complicated. I just started to understand with this video. You explained it perfectly, it's also great that you put a pause on the screen at every setting. How can this microphone thing be so complicated? Thank you, thank you, baby.

    Thank you. I have been using a Blue Snowball on my videos for a while, and I sing in some of my videos, so I just got a Rode Podmic USB and appreciate you doing your singing too. I am a woman as well, and when I am singing the high notes I was having problems with the Snowball. It may have been my gain settings. I will be playing around with the settings, so appreciate your explanation. God bless.

    • @bambymedia

      Oh yes the Snowball doesn't handle the top end all that well, and will pickup a lot more background noise than the Rode PodMic. I'm excited for you to use the new microphone for your singing. Definitely fiddle with the DSP settings. I gave a good run down review of the PodMic too if you need a bit more info about it: ruclips.net/video/gYzjEAAZtxM/видео.html

    Thank you for the review! I've been considering getting a new microphone due to severe EMI noise. Unfortunately, I noticed that you're experiencing the same issue at several points (e.g., 4:47). This leads me to believe that the Rode PodMic is also susceptible to EMI noise.
    I've tried everything I can to eliminate this noise but haven't found a reliable solution. If you have any insights on this issue, I'd greatly appreciate it. ❤

    • @bambymedia
      @bambymedia  5 месяцев назад +2

      I've found most of the USB microphones have varying degrees of EMI associated with them. I use XLR microphones for my normal setup and the noise floor on those (depending on the brand) is much better. My current favourite is the sE Dynacaster DCM8: ruclips.net/video/KiOgAbqKej4/видео.htmlsi=b2dwxV3S4DoWEIQ7 I also battled that one with the SM7B in a studio so you can hear how they sound in a completely "dead" space too. ruclips.net/video/-C-p9iGFsE4/видео.htmlsi=Mn4lpIZmBcwDdArH

    Great info, thanks. My room is very dry, and I am always slurping my mouth. How can I avoid recording this horrible sound? I play on these options, but I have no experience...

    • @bambymedia
      @bambymedia  7 дней назад +1

      Ah yes, mouth noises can be quite hard to manage. One way to minimise those noises is by having a glass of water next to you and frequently sipping. This helps to reduce mouth sounds as you're well lubricated. Also warm water inhaling is great for reducing the dryness. Avoid dairy and avocado before recording, and lemon water is great. If the noises are still quite prevalent, I would make sure your DSP settings are set to "flat" so that the EQ doesn't pick up any extra high frequency mouth sounds (that's where most of those noises show up). Also try positioning the microphone off-axis and about 5cm from your mouth. Try that method from both sides of your mouth (record both sides as a test) and you might find that one side of your mouth has more noises than the other. Sounds strange, but it's true a lot of the time! I should do a video on this actually as it's quite a big topic!

    I like the feature of being able to set your sound settings and then use those same settings when you use the mic via usb on your phone. But what about if I plug it to another computer via XLR after creating those sound settings via USB?

    • @bambymedia
      @bambymedia  5 месяцев назад +1

      Sorry I didn't get to your comment yet! If you plug the microphone in via XLR, it won't have the DSP settings applied, as they are only transferred across via the USB input. Plugging in via XLR will give you a higher quality audio signal, but you'll have to make the changes to the way it sounds either via outboard gear (mixer/pre-amp etc) or in the post-production phase via your DAW (pro tools, logic, adobe audition etc).

    I have the Rode Podmic it only has the 3 prong connection not sure what it's called.. does not have the USBC connection option. I've got the Roland bridge cast one as well, it's showing that my mic is picking up me talking, I downloaded the unify software not sure how to use it because the Rode central software says "please connect a rode device" I'm assuming it's not compatible. I would like to tune my voice and be able to hear it but I'm have trouble locating how to do so.. what did you click on? I'm new to mics like this, I came from the hyperX mic

    • @bambymedia
      @bambymedia  2 месяца назад +1

      Thanks for writing in :) Ahhh, so you've got the Rode PodMic whereas I'm using the Rode PodMic USB in this video. DSP (or digital signal processing) configuration saved to the microphone itself is only available on USB microphones as they produce a digital signal. As opposed to XLR microphones that create an analog signal and whose sound is configured using a preamp. To customise your sound, you could explore the vocal processing options within your Roland Bridge Cast interface.

  • @CreateNowSleepLater

    That Rode software seems way behind what Elgato and Beacn is doing in terms of software and DSPs. Beacn saves everything to the mic as well but I dont think the MIC is nearly as good. Elgato lets you use any VST but its gets processed on the PC. I wish Rode gave you some noise suppresion, expander and a proper EQ.

      @@alice_hez I love this! Okay so the computer you're using shouldn't be causing any off the issue with the hiss in the microphone. If you think it might be the headphones, then I'd suggest doing a test recording just with the microphone and have the headphones not plugged in at all. So hit record - just microphone only and then try a different pair of headphones to see whether the actual recording from the mic has the hiss, or whether it's being created from the headset.

    Hello Bamby!!
    That Rode USB mic is interesting. I am looking for options and so far this one seems good to me, however, I would like to know how much it can eliminate the noise of dog barking, because where I live many dogs bark and it is quite uncomfortable when recording. Can you tell me if you have used it in environments like this? Thanks in advance

    • @bambymedia
      @bambymedia  7 месяцев назад

      Hey! Dynamic microphones (like the Rode PodMic) will do better in loud environments/uncontrolled environments, but dog barks are a little bit harder to manage because they're so abrupt. The first step you can take is making sure all the doors and windows are closed in the room you're recording in, and if you have curtains to go across the windows, even better. Then putting soft furnishings in your room will help minimise noise too, but to remove background noise like dogs that creeps into the microphone you'll need software to control that. There are some good options out there for noise reduction. None of them are going to do a perfect job, but you can try using a tool like Adobe Podcast Enhance which incorporates AI into the background noise removal process and does a decent enough job after you've recorded it: podcast.adobe.com/enhance

    Thanks for this! I’ve watched some videos on this mic but I really needed a female perspective. It was a toss btwn this one and the mv7. I don’t like how the mv7 is muffled a bit and the pop sounds. I don’t know much about audio but learning. I feel like this rode mic maybe would of been a better choice. I do use xlr and an audio interface and I do post production tweaks. I love how you explained the compression because although I use it I wasn’t totally sure what it does. I’ve watched a lot of male overviews on mics but they recommend settings and don’t really explain properly. I’m on the fence whether I should buy this one and try. I’m getting a collection now tho but I need the right mic. I have the pd400x as-well, good mic. But not one has really given me that yes this is the one yet.

    I have just purchased a Rode PodMic USB and SC19 cable. However, when I connect it to my iPhone 11, there is no recorded sound. everything is muted. I tried it on an iPhone 7+ as well, but the same issue occurred. I've made sure the green light is on. Feeling frustrated, I tried reconnecting the SC19 cable, but still couldn't record any sound. I've been at it for 5 hours but still not working. I've searched for tutorials on tiktok, but the sound doesn't come out, maybe because it's connected to the SC19 cable. When I unplug the SC19 cable, the sound on tiktok works again. Is there a step I missed in using this PodMic?

    how about the limiter?

    • @bambymedia
      @bambymedia  5 месяцев назад

      Applying a limiter will increase the perceived loudness of the sound coming out of your microphone by applying compression. This can be useful if you've got a decent variance in dynamics of the vocals that you're recording, but I tend not to use the limiter (especially not in this DSP setting). I'll apply a compression if needed via DSP and then if it feels like it needs more, I'll apply a limiter in the final state of post-production if I'm mixing the vocal with other sounds. Over compression is very common, so err on the side of "less is more"! Hope that helps!
