The emotional art of podcast editing with Matthew Bliss
The odd thing about having to turn on 48v when it’s not needed to get the audio levels set is the deal breaker for me. That should not happen. Condenser mics need 48v, but regular dynamic mics don’t. The RODE PodMic is a dynamic mic and does not require 48v. I think there’s a problem with Audient’s interface. If you find out anything I’d like to know, it’s a great price and I would consider purchasing one but not with that audio 48v issue.
Your production quality is excellent. You deserve more followers and likes. Nice review.
That actually just looks like a sm7b and a sm7db and they sound the same and are virtually the same mic. Accept a pre built amp in the sm7db witch cost and extra $100 over the sm7b
1:41 in, Merged. WIthout doing anything, I started using my RODE Wireless GO (Gen 3) and immediately discovered that Merged is the setting I needed to use. Because when I downloaded my footage to my computer, before I changed any settings, the audio was only coming out of the left side. Very nice tutorial Ms. Brianna. 💜
SHURE cuts frequencies and has poor gain: we can like its faults, but that doesn't make the other one a bad mic.
I purchased this microphone a few days ago, but when I connect it to my PC, the gain is extremely low-I have to speak very loudly for the signal to barely reach the yellow level. When recording in Adobe Audition and amplifying the audio in post-processing, a strong white noise appears. On the other hand, using Rode’s noise reduction processing further reduces the gain, and I can’t find an effective way to recover it. I have no idea what to do; it seems like I might have a defective unit 😭😭
Oh no! That does sound like a defective unit (or perhaps it came with a dodgy cable?). Have you tried giving Rode a call? Their customer service is great! It'd also be handy to know what kind of computer you're plugging into because I have heard of that causing issues too depending on the computer. Don't lose hope!
Lots of comments on here about build quality, where are you using your mic, on a building site!🤦♂️ Apart from a coil in the capsule and wire connections, there is NO electronic circuit, not even a transformer (Shure is massively overpriced) so virtually nothing to go wrong! Treat your equipment with care and even the fake will last many years! As for the sound, ah well, beauty is in the ‘ear’ of the beholder!!!🤔
Lol - we're all using our microphones on building sites dropping them every few seconds! Hehe. I like that comment. Agreed - if you keep your mics well looked after and away from moisture, regardless they should last many years. I have the same microphones here I've had for almost 20 years at this point and they work a treat. We shall see how the fake Shure holds up!
It’s the same process for the new RODE Wireless GO (Gen 3) too. 😎
Ooo good to know! Thanks!
@ 😎
Try to use SM7B mic foam on MV7, it can stop plosives!
Waaaay better isn't it! Such a silly pop filter to ship with the MV7. Diabolically bad design choice.
I’m glad to find your video but the music is really distracting I’m sorry as I’m just trying to understand the fastest ‘get going’ with what exact minimal things to set it up for

Hey Brianna, when I'm using Podmic USB with USB cable and when i plug my laptop charger it gives me some weird noise. Any solution for that?
Hmmm that is odd. Have you tried contacting Rode about it? There are a couple of people in the comments here mentioning a weird hissing noise too. I haven't had the issue, but it'd be worth checking with Rode for sure!
@@bambymedia Thanks for the response. I'll definitely contact rode but from what I've found so far, It's more like an Electrical issue rather than Mic. This happens because of something called ground loop issue that occur when electrical grounding is different with Mic and Laptop, if I'm right. Also i found that there are 2 solutions. 1) Using a Ground Loop isolator (like IFi Defender) 2) Try different USB ports on laptop with a USB C - A converter or with an externally powered USB hub First option looks like little bit expensive but looks like it' the most effective solution. So I'm gonna try the second option. Also I found out that the second option only works if the USB ports on the Laptop are grounded separately (which i don't know for sure). If all USB ports share the same ground, it wouldn't work. So i'm gonna try these before contacting rode. Hope this will help for someone who's having the same issue.
Happy birthday. The SE all the way.
Right?! And thankyouuu
Happy birthday💕💕💕💕
Thankyou thankyou :)
Ciao Brianna e Buon Compleanno! I wouldn't recommend any of these microphones for singing. If you need to choose a dynamic microphone for untreated acoustic environments, I would go for a Shure SM7B or, for a more budget-friendly option, the SM58 or the Sennheiser E935 paired with a good audio interface such as the Solid State Logic 2. When it comes to condenser microphones, there are more options, depending on personal preferences and budget. I often use a Neumann TLM 102 with an RME Babyface Pro FS . However, for a more budget-friendly option, the Takstar TAK55 is surprisingly good. I wouldn’t recommend a USB microphone even for beginners. Only XLR, paired with a good audio interface.
Thanks for the birthday wishes! The SM58 is such a great microphone isn't it! So durable and delivers great sound. Neumann holds a special place in my heart too - but yeah, for the budget friendly beginner vocalists, investing in an audio interface as well as a microphone might be a bit of a stretch if they're just trying to get started. Though - I still crowned the sE DCM8 the winner among the ones I battled and that needs an audi interface. I like giving people some USB options to help them get going - but I agree, wouldn't be my first choice either! It's on my list to do a battle between my ultimate "all time favourite" vocal mics to see who comes out on top!
Happy birth birthday to Brianna happy birthday to

Aww thanks for the birthday wishes! I had such a lovely day!
she plugged them into two different interfaces meaning she could have mic enhancing on the real and stock on the fake
Hey! I plugged them both into the same interface (mentioned in the video) with exactly the same settings. Completely flat - no eq on either microphone in post production. I wanted to make sure I had the best chance at producing a fair comparison. Only difference is the pop filter because unfortunately we couldn't locate the same one for both at time of recording.
Not a big AI girlie, tbh... but I found NotebookLM and started feeding it notes from a suspended D&D campaign. The prompt is that they're divination wizards, scrying on a group of people in their own world, reporting the findings like a reality tv aftershow. Tons of gossip, speculation, etc. I made a theme song with Suno (using chunks of it as intro, outro, and instrumental breaks as stingers/intermissions). The episodes they give you? They're kinda terrible, but with a massive amount of editing (and multiple "takes") I've been able to make something listenable for the former players (of which I was one myself). The characterizations they make are wild. They make my character sound like Erica Kane meets Lex Luthor. I have to do things like comically bleep overused or mispronounced words, and one episode was so impossible I had to edit it together with Descript (burning up my free credits). Some of the hallucinations have been so remarkable I made a little blooper reel episode from it. Because of the flexible nature of the material, some of the hallucinations have stayed in, because why not? While that's fun for me in the fantasy realm (sometimes) I'm still frustrated because I have no idea how to improve the output. I've tried so many combinations of input... narrative, raw notes, highly structured timelines... less info, more info. Caring about the quality (my friends are listening, after all) I've had to find creative ways to patch (plot) holes. I'll use the live interact feature to ask questions (or correct them) and record that... went over to Illuminate to see if that was better (not really), but you can use Boreal and Stellar (the default guy/gal combo in NotebookLM) to make a recording. If you need stiff and concise to the point of oblivion, Illuminate is for you. The novelty of the tool was quickly outpaced by the tedium, and that for something not meant to be distributed beyond half a dozen people (I would *never* upload this tripe to an actual podcast platform, good lord). But, all that being said, if I can prompt them to pretend to be weirdo wizards you *might* be able to get them to roleplay as robots/ai... my only piece of advice would be to feed them a prompt, sure, but also a much more detailed document *first* in load order about the show, hosts personalities, etc. That's the only success I *think* I've seen with that platform.
OMG that sounds like a super fun show. Albeit time consuming to actually get a vague result that you wanted? Hehehe. I like the commitment and I'm sad you're not sharing it. My first thought was "gimmie the link!". I agree though - I think it'd take a fairly detailed prompt to get the AI to behave the way I'd want them to behave where they're making fun of themselves and the fact that they actually can't relate to any human issues. I'd totally listen to that podcast though if it actually existed. It's on my list to try sometime this year as it'd be a fun experiment and perhaps deliver some comical results! Thanks for the comment!
Thanks a bit more thinking for me after this.
Remote record with Riverside , AI edit with Descript
Yep! Makes the most sense to me too.
for someone who has been looking high and low for a solid review between these 2 specific microphones, this was PERFECT. Ive been on reddit after reddit stream but i desperately needed this audio/visual video for comparison. thank you SOOOOO much!
I'm happy it was so helpful for you! I'm glad I could clear things up. 😁
Great vid. I like the testing location use variety. However, you didn't mention that the DJI Mic 2 has a 3.5mm input to plug in a lav mic which removes the problems you identified with the clip. Also, you don't have to buy the whole kit. As I also have a DJI Action 4 camera, I bought the mic 2 on its own. It comes with a small soft case usb cable and the wind cover ($165 AUD), and I just bluetooth it to the camera and adjust settings in the camera. I am a "lone" operator so I don't need 2 mics or the receiver. Have a look at the new DJI Mic Mini, it's a beauty. Keep up the good work. Cheers from down the coast a bit Ha Ha Ha...
Yes! DJI Mic Mini is next up on my list to review. From what I've seen/heard it looks like a great option. You're right - I didn't mention the 3.5mm input jack for the lav! I've got a comparison video coming out between the DJI and the Rode Wireless Pro, so I'll make sure to mention that in the comparison. A fellow Aussie eh? Always lovely to hear from fellow Aussies!
Great info, thanks. My room is very dry, and I am always slurping my mouth. How can I avoid recording this horrible sound? I play on these options, but I have no experience...
Ah yes, mouth noises can be quite hard to manage. One way to minimise those noises is by having a glass of water next to you and frequently sipping. This helps to reduce mouth sounds as you're well lubricated. Also warm water inhaling is great for reducing the dryness. Avoid dairy and avocado before recording, and lemon water is great. If the noises are still quite prevalent, I would make sure your DSP settings are set to "flat" so that the EQ doesn't pick up any extra high frequency mouth sounds (that's where most of those noises show up). Also try positioning the microphone off-axis and about 5cm from your mouth. Try that method from both sides of your mouth (record both sides as a test) and you might find that one side of your mouth has more noises than the other. Sounds strange, but it's true a lot of the time! I should do a video on this actually as it's quite a big topic!
to be honest, most of the difference i hear is around the pops which could be attributed to you having the stronger windscreen on the real one. interesting the fakes can be that good- but the negatives are of course that you would get no support from Shure when something breaks, and that something is likely to break much sooner than with the real one.
Yeah it's a shame the studio didn't have the same pop filter on hand for the closest possible comparison. The difference isn't huge is it! Completely agree though. Fakes are likely to break, there is no support. I could definitely hear a difference in the overall frequency response, but you could mitigate those issues with some clever EQing. I still won't be buying anymore fakes. Makes for a good comparison though doesn't it.
Sound advice - thanks
I see what you did there.
@@CinemalecularFilms huehuehue
Did i miss the part where the gentleman says which Mic he would choose? Interested because i have a deeper voice
For the male voice the SM7B sounds better. SM7B has more depth and richness for the lower tones and also the MV7 picks up more of the mouth noises. If budget isn't an issue, for a male voice I'd suggest the SM7B. Though the SM7B requires a lot more "gain" so you'd need a cloudlifter to get it to the best level for you. Otherwise, the SM7dB would be the best choice. You don't need a cloudlifter for that one (it's the newer model of the same microphone): amzn.to/4jvZvdS
Thanks you made my decision solid for descript! We have been applying this to our shorts and eye contact works great too.
The eye contact is scary good isn't it!
Great test❤
Thanks but it seemed a little unclear as to which mic you thought was the winner. Can you say now? Cheers.
I didn't love either of them to be honest! The Shure SM7B wins though for the extra depth. RE20 was too crisp for my voice.
@@bambymedia Thanks. 👍
Great video love it💕💕
Thankyou! Glad you liked it!
I signed up for a Riverside Pro account and have had nothing but issues. I found it unreliable, at time dreadfully slow and my guests have always had issue connecting. Out of frustration and looking for an alternative I tried DESCRIPT. I did three test interviews with various guests using various devices eg MacBook, PC etc. They ALL ran seamlessly. I cannot comment on all the functionality of the features because I was only using the free version which limited access to these. I did have access to the SOUND Clarity feature which is similar in both platforms eg levelling out the audio levels and sound quality. Descript was much faster at this task than Riverside. All in all, I will be switching to DESCRIPT because I need a platform that is reliable.
"...and I know everyone has opinions, like everyone has ***holes..." Way to bring that Aussie culture in there! 😊(censored for comment flagging 😅)
Hehehehe yeah I had to censor myself in the video too!
Really well produced video! A pleasure to watch. Best of luck to you and your channel!
That's very kind. Thank you! I'm enjoying the journey.
Mam,How to connect rode mini to Sony camera.plz guide
Unfortunately you're not able to plug the Rode NT-USB mini straight into your Sony camera! If you need a microphone that plugs into your camera, there are a bunch of great options. Rode Wireless systems, DJI wireless systems and there are also on top of the camera "shotgun" style microphones from Rode that work well.
Wow Bamby , your dji mic 2 testing is far better than others. appreciations and respect for your work. I was making my mind for Dji Mic 2 or Rode Wireless pro so your videos make it very easy for me to decide. thank you once more
I'm delighted that it was so helpful for you. I've got a side by side comparison of the two microphones coming out soon too, but you probably would have made up your mind by then hopefully!

You should make a cover singing videos. You have a lovely voice ❤
You're very kind thank you! Singing is something I love to do very much. I plan to do some singing videos this year.
@@bambymedia make that kind of video as much as you can. With proper music and clip’s, people would love to hear video like that daily. If you could make them in high res audiophile recording, that would be a plus. I love oldie jazz too. There are so many female singers who cover old popular song and marketed as audiophile music. Like Janet Seidel, Inger Marie Gundersen, Chie Ayado, etc.
Excellent video and clear explanation, thanks. I have been looking for help working on the timeline and script together. This hits the spot 🙌
Ah fantastic! Thanks so much. I love finding the perfect tutorial RUclips so I know the feeling :)
Thank you very much for the video. I was very scared when I was waiting for my SM7B, but by all indications it is the original. By the way, have you tried to register a fake microphone by serial number on the Shure website?
Oh thank goodness you have a real one! I'm very happy to hear that for you. Yes - after I realised it might be a fake, I did try and register it on the Shure website to see what happened, and it mentioned there that it couldn't find the serial number, so that was a clear indication at that stage that it was a fake!
@@bambymedia thank you once again for the answer. mine got registrated without any problems, but i hear that fake makers can also (idk how) make a fake serial number and it will show on shure website that this is real microphone. that's why i asked :) by the way, you still don't like your voice in this microphone? even if you use an eq/compressor?
Thanks for doing this video! I have a burning question about how you deal with the environmental noise, given the lack of active noise cancelling on the Wireless Pro - especially in the train example you showed. Is that background noise easy to edit out in post processing?
Heya! I responded to this one for you in the other video you commented on, but for anyone else with the same question needing an answer, here it is for you too: The mic "bleed" is always more of an issue with lav mics so it's not my first preference for podcast recording. Also background noise can be a bit of an issue and in this particular location the room had a very high roof, so it did create extra "bounce". The background noise/bleed isn't terribly hard to remove/reduce with the right editing software. We use Davinci Resolve for our video editing and that has some decent tools for noise reduction. Adobe Podcast Studio also has a "V2" version of their background noise removal tool that can help you reduce unwanted sounds, but I do find that it sounds quite "digital" and "robotesque" after using that particular tool. I would suggest 2 x Rode Podmics if you are wanting a cleaner sound with less mic bleed. That is a dynamic microphone which does a great job of minimising bleed as long as you work on your microphone placement.
Glad you mentioned the possibility of mic bleed! Curious how much of that issue you had with this setup? I'm really keen to do a podcast with wireless mics (to reduce the logistics and setup hassle), and have been eye-ing the Wireless Pro, given it's high quality & internal recording capability, but I worry about background noise and mic bleed between guests, given that its lav mics are omnidirectional. And whether that makes editing in post a problem. Would you recommend dedicated pod mics over this? A big Thank You in advance for your thoughts!
Great question! The mic "bleed" is always more of an issue with lav mics so it's not my first preference for podcast recording.
@bambymedia thanks so much for the detailed response! Really appreciate it. I've heard similar recommendations about using dynamic mics like the Rode Pod, but I'm trying to create a wireless audio setup just to simplify my logistics and ease of setting up my recording space at different venues. But I have been hearing about these issues with omnidirectional lav mics, and so am trying to see if I can find a good cardioid lav mic that's more directional and less sensitive to surrounding sounds, and can pair with the Rode Wireless Pro
Beautiful voice. Could hear this all day
That's so lovely :) thankyou!
This video is gold, very well explained. Thanks :)
Nice song, excellent voice. Need to hear more ❤
You shouldn't be worry about it, you just have to continue up to date, take advantage of techology and be creative to diferentiate your services from competiton.
You're right, technology is moving so fast, I think it's just about adapting as quickly as possible.
This is a great tutorial. Thanks!

QUEENSLANDER!
Thank You!
How can i 100% verify legit version ? :D i bought it from big german music shop 3 yrs ago , for full price .. but i am not 100% sure now . I am paranoid , what if i bought just well done fake one :D .. the box seems to be legit , with smaller ,,SHURE'' text , there is ,,Imported from UK'' sticker , also with some chinese letters - that could be only different market box , .. the capsule itself seems to be legit , one grommet popped out slightly , but it could be assembly mistake . I dont know :D How is this even possible ? SHURE company needs to do something against it .. add some unique verification codes , to check authenticity online or something. Like vehicle VIN number 🙏 Because they're getting better and better - the fake ones .. but , i paid for original product , i want original product right ? :D . If someone wants fake for 100 USD , okay .. i understand that , but let's have this official right - SM7B FAKE on it :D on the box itself .
I completely agree with you! I would hope that if you've purchased this from a legit German music shop, it should not be a fake. It should be the real thing! There are a few distinct differences in the size and placement of the actual microphone within the capsule of the fake. I'd suggest watching a video that showcases the differences to make sure completely, but I would hope you got the real thing!
