Not gonna lie, I might need a pair of these after seeing why Game Freak thought Mega Gengar was a good idea when they also deleted Shadow Tag Chandelure from existence. Talk about a double standard, am I right?
Crazy how Gengar made it work back in the early gens 1-3 without a single stab move. Makes me think gen 4's special and physical split was mainly for Gengar.
It was even crazier that in Gen 1, bro was the only Ghost type, and he is also weak to the extremely dominant Psychic Type... and HE STILL MAKE IT WORKS. what a pokemon.
I think the scene would’ve been more sad if the animators actually gave Gengar a sad face that fit the tone instead of keeping that goofy smile on him.
All hail Gengar, the most iconic ghost type Pokemon of all time. An amazing staple of the game since its debut generation and one that is beloved by many.
The most amazing part about Gengar is that it was an utter monster in the first three gens of its existence WITHOUT STAB, despite being designed to be an offensive Pokémon.
A special mention to Gengar's history is Mega Gengar being banned in Gen 9 NatDex Ubers. Gengar gained Encore in Gen 8, and while it doesn't really do a whole lot for normal Gengar, it absolutely broke Mega Gengar in NatDex Ubers thanks to its speed tier and Shadow Tag access. It was quickbanned after the first day of the tier's formation alongside Shedinja and Calyrex-SR (which is a day before they quickbanned Mega Rayquaza and Miraidon), becoming one of the most broken Pokemon ever created. Recently this past month, a NatDex Ubers tier was also created for Gen 8 as well (prior to Gen 9, only NatDex AG existed above NatDex OU), and Mega Gengar is unsurprisingly banned in that tier too. If Mega Gengar ever comes back to the mainline series, which is likely will given that Megas are returning in Legends ZA, it will likely be subject to the same fate.
Probably won't get encore tho. Almost definitely gonna lose it, as in SV some me pokemon lost moves even when traded from other games (maybe in SwSh too, but idk).
It sorely depends if GameFreak has the foresight to do something about it, since Shadow Tag + Encore is an interaction exclusive to a Smogon tier that is completely made up from the actual games, so I doubt GameFreak would be aware of the interaction from NatDex alone.
@@the_bookworm8281Leaked gen 6 files have revealed that gamefreak did tons of huge nerfs to pokemon before their release. Mega garchomp was supposed to have 112 speed, talonflame was meant to have 103 attack, etc. as well as a scrapped mega evolution for Jynx. But in short yes they would at the very least be aware of the interaction and to balance it, gamefreak did also nerf the ruination quartet's BSTs before releasing SV iirc.

Really wish they kept levitate But it's not like Gengar could take a hit anyways because Psychic is a thing But again less weaknesses over all of them at this point

Some pokemon that had to carefully pick their movesets just to hit it could now do it without much thought. That being said, Gengar was already falling off on its own merit. I seriously have no doubt Gengar would have fallen to UU in gen 7 even if it still had Levitate because it would have been displaced by Blacephelon, but everybody acts like the loss of Levitate was just that damning.
