Rhyperior actually still being good in UU in Gen 9 is remarkable considering the crazy powercreep that's knocked many other Pokemon down to PU or even untiered.

I LOVE the fact that these two have Megahorn in their movepool. It would be really easy for Gamefreak to say “oh, Rock and Ground coverage is already super good, let’s just give them some elemental punches and Normal-type moves and call it a day.” But Megahorn does SO MUCH for their coverage, patching up a lot of holes and making them better at what they’re designed to do. Rhyperior also saw some usage in gen 7 UU, it's ability to handle electrics like Mega Manectric and Rotom-Heat was nice, and it's usage was at an all time high when Moltres usage was up and similarly could check Togekiss and Mega Pidgeot. It could use Solid Rock to trade with a number of pokemon like Mega Aero and Scizor despite super effective hits, and these trades made it a fixture on a number of bulky offense teams for sometime, acting as an alternative to water/grounds that packed a serious punch.
The fact that a Pokémon with essentially nonexistent speed and special defense remains a decent choice while being weak to ground, steel, fighting, water, ice, and grass is really quite something. It’s basically a physical chansey/blissy but with 6 weaknesses instead of 1.
Love seeing the og type vids again! Would like to see these come back a bit more often. But i understand that these generally take more work so do with this what you will. I will always watch all vids and like comment regardless.
@Mobtrapper-hq8is The first is “i like x thing, or x general concepts. I’ll make a unique game and include those concepts.” The second is “im literally gonna make the game all over again and change only the things i could be sued for.”
waiting for the counterparts to complete: - Carracosta - Seviper - other gen 5 monkeys - Gothitelle - incineroar - Tornadus - Aromatisse And I guess we could finish up Gen 2 with Sunflora, Magcargo (Slugma Male Grindset paying off when?) and Corsola. I think those are the only gen 2 Pokemon left to wrap it up.
Crazy how FSG uploads the very first Pokemon ever created/existed in the franchise on the same day Gen 3-5 Beta content was leaked. Big coincidence since Rhyperior is also here, but he’s also one of my favorite Gen 4 Pokemon. Caught a Shiny Alpha one as well.
I think a fun video idea would be to look at moves that hit types super effectively that they usually don’t (like freeze dry), and ask how good those types would be if that was the standard. Although as far as I can remember, freeze dry is the only move with this distinction, so it may not be enough for a full video. Still think it would be an interesting. You could even talk about freeze dry-esque moves that players have theorized would be really cool, such as a poison type move that hit steel types super effectively.
There’s something so… satisfying about watching an early gen pokemon stay relevant in the lower tiers decades after its introduction, without any extra help from Gamefreak. Good on you, Rhybros.
Ground/Rock is pretty polarizing as a dual type. Pretty powerful STABs, but very easy to exploit with two 4x weaknesses in Grass and Water and several other common weaknesses with Fighting, Ice, and Ground itself. Steel's a less common weakness, but sees more use in later Gens due to Fairy types.
Ground/Rock is also a much more rare combination than one might think. Golem and Rhyperior are still the only two fully evolved Pokémon with that dual typing.
@enoyna1001 I wouldn't go that far -- the biggest issue the rock type has offensively is the fact that it's best moves often tend to not be 100% accurate. Other than that, it's actually a great offensive type that not that many types resist. The biggest issue that it has is it's defensive value: sure, you get a couple of pretty nice resistances to fire and flying, but having 5 weaknesses, several of them to common and threatening types (most notably ground, water and steel) tends to make more defensive rock types flawed at best. Rhyperior is the perfect example of this: it hits extremely hard thanks to having both great attack strength and a STAB type combination that's better than some might think, and while it's defensive abilities can have some value (most notably it's ability to wall Zapdos better than anything else), it's typing more often than not can be exploited because of it's many weaknesses and low special bulk
Man, i havent been able to play pokemon since December (lost my switch) and these videos help me stay connected and appreciate the creatures i spent my childhood with. Well yall and Scott's thoughts. Its like i never lost my switch sometimes... right before the final SV dlc released
Rhyperior will always be the definition of a unit (on the physical side, that is). When you can work around both of those 4x weaknesses, it hits like a bulldozer stacked on top of a tank. My favorite thing is that on top of Ground/Rock STAB, this thing gets so much damn coverage to hit a ton strong!
@@comics4556 It's not about what you are trying to hit with it, it's more about what your opponent THINKS their counter is for A Rhyperior. Alot of the time, I'll see my opponent has a Lando-T during Team Preview, and I'll lead with Rhyperior while they of course lead with that very Lando-T. Now, because of their Intimidate, they strongly assume 1 of a few things: A) They 2 shot you with Earthquake, while they know due to outspeeding, they can take 1 Ice Punch. (And they only risk a 10% Freeze) B) They set up a Swords Dance thinking you will Switch Turn 1, or Stealth Rock Turn 1, and knowing they still live 1 of any physical move, they can then 1 shot with an SD Boosted Earthquake on Turn 2. Or C) They slow play and go for Stealth Rock, planning to U-Turn on Turn 2, again knowing they tank any physical move you use! So, since they outspeed, they either get off a Safe: Earthquake, Swords Dance, or Stealth Rock... but then you surprise them with a Turn 1 Modest Specs Boosted Ice Beam, and you OHKO their Lando-T! Giving you a very early 6-5 lead, and giving you some long term momentum as they just lost a likely Key Pokémon on their team (I say long term cause they just lost an Intimidate user, and get a Free Switch after losing Lando-T, but they can't rely on it for the battle, which has lots of effects.) And starting Turn 2, you can afford to play more carefully since you already have the lead! It's the funniest thing, since their is 1 other likely result to them losing Lando-T to Specs Rhyperior... they Forfeit cause they are Big Mad! 😂
@@comics4556 And this is my own Idea too. I've never seen someone do it before. I think I created it during Gen 7, which is around the time I was using Flyinium Z Mamoswine, since Mamoswine could use Peck, giving you a 1 time 100 Base Power Move to use. That, I did see on RUclips however, and just thought it was hilarious! Lol I'm a strong believer that Originality is the best counter to the Top meta, due to people not expecting the unexpected. Doesn't matter if Rhyperior has Base 55 Special Attack, if their Rhyperior counter/check is not invested in their Special Defense! 😁

I used a Rhyperior in my SoulSilver playthrough named Tremor. I loved it so much that I collected ribbons on it and Hyper Trained it on the unlikely chance I want to play PvP battles.
Rhydon I’m gen 1 actually has started dropping rock slide for tail whip/leer for the rise of reflect snorlax. Still being able to wall zapdos completely having the options is super cool off a development even after 20 years!
I had a sand team with Rhyperior as part of a defensive core once. A memorable fight was when an opponent had a Stoutland with retaliate. I had to switch Rhyperior in a couple times, as Stoutland would come in to retaliate, then leave. His special defense may suck on its own, but sandstorm helps. I think this was before assault vest came out, but that would be a good item to give him. Its also a nice pokemon to baton pass some buffs to. Ninjask says hi.
Actually, Dragonite had 134 base power in gen 1, beating Rhydon by 4 points. Of course, Rhydon was more powerful in practice since it had STAB options, but in terms of stats alone, Dragonite beats it.
Don't feel bad, all the trade only mons in gen 1 are pretty lame unless you know EXACTLY wtf you're doing with a Gengar. It takes more time and effort to get a Rydon than a Golem for a good reason.
i've always liked pokemon like Rhydon and Rhyperior. Though every time i did Megahorn it missed. i opted to make use of moves that were more accurate and consistent and/or pokemon that can make good use of more consistent moves.
Rhylerior became my favorite Pokemon when I did a battle with my friend with a Rhyperior I trained up for him in XY. It was a close battle, and it came down to my Mega Blastoise and the Rhyperior. I hit it with a Surf, thinking that should have been enough to finish the battle. The beast tanked it, remaining in green HP, and one shot Blastoise with Earthquake. We were both so floored, when spent the rest of the day calaculating out the battle damage only to determine, yeah, that's how it was going to go every time.
Here's a dum idea with the soon to return mega evolution, giving it a mega form where it just gains a sharp boost to its speed state, like it only gets a boost to speed. Mega Rhyperior theme music can then be "Can't stop the Rock"
You heard that right: After being RU for three generations, in Gen 9, when almost every Pokemon dropped a tier, even Garchomp from OU, Rhyperior rose to UU.
Haha, I am positive that they wrote that battle just to make fun of Ash's infamous first battle against Blaine, where Pikachu beat Rhydon by aiming for the horn, but Magmar was too hot to shock. Well, they patched those glitches by showing Rhydon redirecting Pikachu's Thunderbolt with Lightning Rod so he couldn't attack Magmar until Rhydon was down. 😂
Tera Electric Rhyperior is a great answer to things like Gholdengo's make it rain and reduces it to only one weakness of ground. You could also go Tera Water with Lightning Rod to only have a *2 weakness to Grass or niche moves like Freeze-dry
You’re not running Rhyperior in OU this gen. Beyond getting hard walled by LandorusT, Gliscor, Great Tusk and Corviknight, it’s WAAAY too slow and vulnerable. Tera won’t fix any issues of this.

Rhyperior will never have a chance in OU due to all of the strong Grass/Water mons/moves, and other mons that have STAB that threaten it and/it hard wall it. Rhyperior managing to shoot up a tier in Gen 9 of all things is honestly one of the coolest developments of this series.
SV is the funniest meta of all time
Rhyhorn crying in the corner at 21:40 "rhy-duo"
"Bullshit we'll be the rhy-trio, Rhyperior" his tears cascade like that of Niagra's waterfalls, "Look at you two now... the "Rhy-duo..."
Pls lik if u cryed i cri evry tim
Is Miraibo Go 1:54 just Palworld?
Yes, they literally ripped Palworld, so much more clearly than even Palworlds original similarities to real pokemon
Miraibo Go is not a Palworld clone.
Miraibo Go is a Palworld *Carbon Copy.*
@Mobtrapper-hq8is
The first is “i like x thing, or x general concepts. I’ll make a unique game and include those concepts.”
The second is “im literally gonna make the game all over again and change only the things i could be sued for.”
Rhyperior and Porygon2 meta is the most baller meta I've ever seen
waiting for the counterparts to complete:
- Carracosta
- Seviper
- other gen 5 monkeys
- Gothitelle
- incineroar
- Tornadus
- Aromatisse
And I guess we could finish up Gen 2 with Sunflora, Magcargo (Slugma Male Grindset paying off when?) and Corsola. I think those are the only gen 2 Pokemon left to wrap it up.
Incineroar is going to be 2 hours.
He NEEDS to collab with Wolfey for the vgc sections if there is an incineroar one
Rhydon my all time fave getting a remake False Swipe retrospective analysis is single handedly getting me thorugh my monday. Much love False Swipe
He's just trying to avoid making a TTar video.
Wait, really? Where are people posting that? I need to see it asap
Where is the connection between both?
Congrats nerd
Super refreshing to get another history video after the slew of theroms
The rhyperior comeback feels great. bro might have fallen off in the middle gens, but he just needed some time to come around to the future.
I LOVE Rhyperior. I'll watch the vid as soon as I can!
Rhyperior knows how to make ice cream, look at that cone on it's nose ^_^
Getting sponsored by family friendly palworld is insane 😭
25 point boost to SpDef, make solid Rock reduce damage by 33%.
Rhyperior will always be one of my favorite Pokémon.
Just yesterday i was hoping for this episode. Can't wait to enjoy it
I think a fun video idea would be to look at moves that hit types super effectively that they usually don’t (like freeze dry), and ask how good those types would be if that was the standard.
Rock STAB is not relevant in Singles as there are almost no widely available, reliable Rock-type moves.
Honestly, gen 4 is almost defined, to me, by the evolutions that so *nearly* are great.
Magmortar, Electivire, dusknoir, rhyperior.
I love the stadium reference there when it was said: "The massive explosion" 6:40
Rhydon is so cool, great design.
Rhyperior I never really cared for, but thanks for the eviolite, at least.
Man, i havent been able to play pokemon since December (lost my switch) and these videos help me stay connected and appreciate the creatures i spent my childhood with. Well yall and Scott's thoughts. Its like i never lost my switch sometimes... right before the final SV dlc released
Yay I’ve been eating for this for such a long time thank you
Well, now you can swallow.
Its really good in VGC as well. Being slow in a good thing in Trick Room
Of all days to upload this was certainly one of them
I can't be the only person that loves to Run Special Attacking Specs Rhyperior. It's my favorite way to use Rhyperior!
I might try that one day lol I’ve usually used physical Rhyperior’s but a special set would be funny
Oh my God, it's a remade video about my all time favorite Pokemon! It's about time Rhydon got some more love again!
I just watched the old rhydon video like yesterday and this came in my feed. Kinda crazy
You're a wizard
Rhyhorn, Rhydon, and Rhyperior make up my favorite evolution line. Rhyperior gets way too much hate. These guys are cool
same
I feel you bro
Who the hell hates Rhyperior??
@@michaelgum97 Hate is too strong a word for a slave animal. Some of them are female and moms at that, let's have some respect for moms
@@michaelgum97boy, would you be surprised. Trust me, I was, too!
What is that sponsor?? Its literally palworld
At least it's not genital grooming equipment on a channel that's children will definitely watch. Sure the majority of his viewers are likely adults, but I still don't wanna hear about that on a pokemon video -_-
no no, you don't get it, miraibo go is completely different from palworld :D
Charriii5 reference?@@laserninja2027
Ironically, it actually directly steals assets from Genshin
@@sleazymeezymost adults use normal razors, theres a reason those grooming companies don't sell at retailers and rely on sponsorships - their products suck
Raising stats should make the trade-evolved Pokémon worth it to get.
Rhyperior is worth it. But yeah, trade evolutions suck. They are just as obsolete as overworld abilities and they should get rid of them.
@@miikaroos3809Overworld abilities were fine, even if they've outgrown their usefulness by this point, it hurts them that they got increasingly flacid and pointless instead of more diverse as they series developed
Trade evos are evil and NEVER needed to be a thing, there was NEVER a point except for punishing people that didn't have friends
Hopefully they take what they put in Legends Arceus and fix that problem fellas. I'd rather been given the option to trade with my friends or do an additional grind via the internet to get separate currency and buy myself the Link Cable Cord item. That's why I was using Golem in my Legends Arceus play through. So satisfying.
@@Smart1529 Making the trade-evolving items be like stones is pretty cool. You could design them to still be held and used during a trade.
I used a Rhyperior in my SoulSilver playthrough named Tremor. I loved it so much that I collected ribbons on it and Hyper Trained it on the unlikely chance I want to play PvP battles.
You hyper trained it in SoulSilver?
@@linkthepringlesman3951 Yes
Loved rhyperior design so underrated
My favorite pokémon, he deserves more love
RHYDON THIS D- **no clips into brazil**
Babe wake up new FSG mini movie just dropped
As one of my favorite Gen 4 Pokemon that helped me a lot during a Nuzlocke seeing Rypherior being good puts a smile on my face.
I am glad that Rhydon and Rhyperior never fell to untiered.
Actually, Dragonite had 134 base power in gen 1, beating Rhydon by 4 points. Of course, Rhydon was more powerful in practice since it had STAB options, but in terms of stats alone, Dragonite beats it.
*me, sees this video*
*also me* "WOOOOOOOOOO YEAH BABY! THAT'S WHAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!"
I liked Rhydon because i couldn't get Golem back in the day.
Don't feel bad, all the trade only mons in gen 1 are pretty lame unless you know EXACTLY wtf you're doing with a Gengar. It takes more time and effort to get a Rydon than a Golem for a good reason.
@@charlesplante Alakazam is one of the very best Pokémon in Gen 1, FYI.

I guess you could say this duo is... Rock solid!
i've always liked pokemon like Rhydon and Rhyperior.
Rhydon this wigglett
No thanks bro
Here's a dum idea with the soon to return mega evolution, giving it a mega form where it just gains a sharp boost to its speed state, like it only gets a boost to speed.
Mega Rhyperior theme music can then be "Can't stop the Rock"
140 Speed on something as strong as RHYPERIOR would completely decimate everything.
@SomeAsian yes, and no complaining now it is after all still 4x weak to both water and grass
LG finally an update! one of my favourite rock types!
You heard that right: After being RU for three generations, in Gen 9, when almost every Pokemon dropped a tier, even Garchomp from OU, Rhyperior rose to UU.
Please make a new format of videos explaining the history of Moves and Abilities. I'd love to see the history of Trick room or prankster.
I didn’t like Rhyperior’s design when it first came out, but using one every day in Pokemon Go has caused it to grow on me
The first thing I thought of when I saw this video was that episode where Rhydon pulled out Surf while its teammate Magmar used Protect 😆
@@HowlingOneify Trick Room can be used to great effect. I'll also run it as long as it fits into my team. I don't really do much in terms of Smogon tiering unless I am on Showdown - I otherwise use whatever is best for what I need in my team. It's always good to look at videos like this to get an idea of what else I can be doing
Rhyperior will never have a chance in OU due to all of the strong Grass/Water mons/moves, and other mons that have STAB that threaten it and/it hard wall it. Not to mention that you'd have to commit to trick room, since it is easy to revenge kill. Committing to TR and Tera for one mon to get a kill isn't worth it, but whatever floats your boat bro. 👍
@@djdrizzy9139 With the right team members and support, any Pokémon can do well. You have to have the mix right like with any other team. I love it when some little Timmy brings 6 box legendaries and I just systematically destroy them with something unorthodox.
@@Wonderguard1 Sure, any Pokémon can do something with support, but succeeding with that is... not very likely with some mons. Not impossible, but if your mon gets checked/countered by the top meta mons, good luck.
I love how in Gen 2 Rhydon just punts Zap Cannon like a soccer ball
Wow, I apparently haven't been giving Rhyhorn enough credit.
Somehow caught it this early

My favorite pokemon! Lets goooo
You know miraibo had to boost that marketing budget after hearing palworld is making a mobile app. 🤣
His OG art makes him look like an enemy is Kirbys Dreamland
This is just a slight Suggestion, but maybe when Covering a Pokemon's usage in Gen 9, maybe add somewhere the main Tera types they would run? I love your Videos and I just think it'd be nice to see in Future Videos
Ryperier's solid rock ability is one of the best abilities known to the game it makes moves like hydro pump do less damage than it would have making it able to tank super effective moves like a champ 🏆
