    Starmie always feels like one of those mons that will always find a niche for itself.
    Being a bulky water as well as an offensive water means that no matter what tier it's in it always has something to do.
    It's highly adaptable just like the animal it's based on

    I think the most incredible thing about Starmie is how it retained its huge level of high tier power and versatility throughout all the gens since the first one despite not being given the same level of favoritism as a lot of other Gen 1 mons, like Charizard.
    No Mega Form, no Gigantamax, no regional variant, nothing. Since day 1 its simply been a fast, healthy Water/Psychic with great special attack and a movepool just varied enough to be highly useful offensively or defensively.

      and it feels like to me gamefreak damn well knows this too and does everything in their power to create pokemon that "overshadow" starmie like greninja and arrowkuda to the point where they just thanos snap starmie from the series. shoving the newer mons that no one gives two flying shites about in our faces saying "love them LOVE THEM". well no gamefreak i will not love them, i will continue to use my starfish in ultra sun and i will wait for you to hopefully add it back in in scarlet and violet and if you dont... well i got litteraly hundreds of other games to play.

    I've seen a pretty good theory that Staryu and Starmie are inspired by Ultraman. They come from space, have a gem at their center that glows when they are weak, and at least in the English dub Staryu makes almost the same "Hiya!" sounds as the original Ultraman. The Ultra series, especially Ultraseven, was a direct inspiration for Pokemon so it'd makes sense, although not sure why they'd chose the starfish for this homage.

      They could drop its Attack from 75 to 65 (people don't really relay on Rapid Spin or Attack stat in general for damage when it comes to Starmie), and then reallocate and also boost on top of it all the Speed and SpA stats. A 125 Speed stat and 115 SpA stat could help it stay relevant, thanks also to its extremely good coverage and decent typing. That would push its Base Stat to 535 - which is obviously very *good* but definitely not overpowered, in fact that's kind of the average for most of the threats Starmie used to face for most of its run. It would only be fair.

    Starmie is really underrated honestly and because of "competitive" settings, it's often forgotten that it has one of THE best coverages out of all Pokemon in the game, only beaten out by Mew and 1-2 others, since it can learn a strong, 100% accurate, special move of half of the types in the game (Surf/Scald, Psychic/Psyshock, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, Power Gem, Grass Knot, Flash Cannon, Dazzling Gleam and Signal Beam), with a ton of utility as well for both singles and doubles (Rapid Spin, Recover, Icy Wind, dual Screens, Ally Switch, Gravity, even Psych Up for gimmicks)! It's seriously one of the most versatile Pokemon, even if unfortunately 99% of it's moveset is neglected...

    Starmie has been so defining OU bedrock since its introduction, so it was tragic to see it dropping to lower tiers in SM and even farther down in SwSh due to power creep. Starmie while no longer the OU king it once was was still incredible in its own niches in SwSh.
    If Starmie is brought back to SV as DLC, it will immensely benefit from terastalization if it is not yet banned. The skys the limit with tera versatility. For example, leaving behind it's psychic typing in exchange for mono water would immensely boost its defensive profile along with making its hydro pumps even deadlier.
    Starmie will always been good no matter the tiers. It's biggest weaknesses are its 4 moveslot syndrome and it's rather modest stats other than speed. Here's hoping in SV when it comes back, it gains access to nasty plot, calm mind, defog, and possibly illuminate being buffed to act like the new compound eyes.
    Merry Christmas False Swipe Gaming. Thank you for another excellent year of competitive Pokémon analysis.

    Starmie - one Pokemon that's readily available in most regions and understands the assignment - being a fast, somewhat bulky, special attacker; and either carries or enhances it's arsenal each time. just wondering why it doesn't get Mind Reader, Lock On, Shadow Ball, Moon Blast, Ancient Power, Moonlight, Shore Up or "Lunge"
    Analytic is a bit dodgy for it, and probably for trick room attempts
    illuminate could probably be buffed by either lowering the opponents accuracy by 1 stage after switching in or by increasing the users evasion by one stage upon switching in or increasing the users accuracy. It could also have the out of battle utility of not needing to use flash inside caves (at night) added.

    • @ShiningJudgment666
      @ShiningJudgment666 10 месяцев назад

      Analytic works because it procs if the opponent switches and given Starmie's type coverage, it can actually use it effectively. Pretty useless for in-game playthroughs though given the AI usually don't switch. Just stick to Natural Cure for in-game as Illuminate is pretty useless. Starmie is also way too fast for Trick Room. A way to buff Illuminate would be to basically make it Compound-Eyes. A lot of weaker Pokemon could benefit from the accuracy buff on more powerful but less reliable moves and Starmie would probably be the best beneficiary (Thunder and Blizzard hit just over 90% accuracy which is more reliable and Hydro Pump even more).
