@@slippy318 I'm looking at his level learnset, and it's not too great early on for brock, tbh. He'd be as good I'm the late game because of his learnset are serviceable special stat. I'm looking through them all to guess which would compete with m2.
Probably Nidoking? It is what speedrunners use to achieve runs of under 2 hours. It grows respectably faster than Mewtwo, has access to a vast array of TMs, and starts with Thrash.
From some quick searching, my list of contenders:
Nidoking
Victreebell
Dugtrio
Poliwrath
Gyarados
Tauros
All these have good early game options (quickly getting through brock is pretty important) and have some combo of stats, boosting moves (say it with me...), coverage, positive critical matchups, etc.
Honestly, gyarados is the top contender. Starting with hydro pump and dragon rage is preeeeetty good.
This is what I was expecting! Mewtwo needs a re-run with optimized strategy, imo.
Waiting for alakazam. My bet to be the closest to M2
Gengar the signature pokemon of not one, not two! But three gym leader/elite members
Agatha, Morty and onion boy
25:55 ''The salad exam is scary''
The closed captions are always hilarious
Every time he does the count impression, it makes me smile. Great videos
Ahhhh I can't wait to watch this! I always did a glitch when I played Red and Yellow that let me get a Gengar in Viridian Forest. It's pretty funny how the game doesn't expect you to have a ghost so early so none of Brock's Pokemon can touch you.
Fun video. I do like the longer vids but seeing a streamlined run is always refreshing. The Elite 4 being relatively easy is nice to see every now and again.
You've also done 1/6th of the Pokedex!
Just wanted to let you know Jrose, that I like your voice, your sarcasm and your way approaching the problems. You are my "grab-a-beer-after-work-and-go-to-couch"-entertainment, so thank you for that :D
The fact that Gengar is not a legendary puts it higher in pokemon amazingness than Mewtwo. Mewtwo is suppose to be great stat pokemon with few to no weakness, but the fact Gengar was able to come just shy of Mewtwo's time makes it far superior in my book
He would have given Mewtwo/Alakazam a hard run if only it knew Shadow Ball in Gen1
@@stuartdparnell he should’ve done fire red because LICK IS THE ONLY GHOST MOVES

I just love the Count impression, it's between horrible and perfect, and it always makes me laugh. Love your videos man! Road to 200k!
Dude, if you made 152 videos of this series for every Pokemon (MissingNo too!) thatd be awesome. Either way, you're the man
Poketips already made a Missingno vid ;)
@ why are you being an ass
You'll be seeing some weird stuff with a missingno solo run. I'm kind of interested to see Jrose's reaction to it lol
@ The only thing Poketips didn't do in RBY is try to catch Mewtwo.

JRose, I’ve watched all the vids at least 5 times each. It doesn’t even matter how many times I watch. The commentary is amazing
When anyone else uploads: *I sleep*
When Jrose11 uploads: *real shit?*
I'm actually interested in what challenges you can make and put yourself through in other games outside of Pokemon Jrose. As a longtime fan who has watched nearly every single one of your videos, I kinda get the sense from your recent videos that it's not as thrilling to do these challenges as it was before. It almost feels too cookie-cutter in some sense. I think actually, you've pushed the limits of these challenges so far that you've learned nearly all there is to know about this game/challenge and there's barely anything for you to learn/discover now. I don't say this out of hate, but actually out of love and support to see you try new things. Thank you for all the work, time, tears, and Count Dracula impressions you put into these videos and I still look forward to more content (be it pokemon or your other favorite games) from you.
Poliwhirl should be able to to pretty well, seeing as how Poliwag was decent.
A REALLY good Pokemon to do this with us Nidoking. Speedrunners use this guy all the time for world record speedruns.
2:25 I think that there may be a possibility that bide had like, a hidden crit or something
idk if that’s even possible, but it’s gen 1 so who knows
Someone replied up above, but apparently if you did damage turn one AND use a non damaging move the next turn, it just copies the first moves damage value.
I love these challenge runs. Thank you for continuing this fantastic series!
I’ve been studying for 4 hours straight. So, I thogut: “I should take a break”.

Thanks for the entertainment Jrose.
Throwback to that time I leveled a Haunter to level 100 because I was trying to get it to evolve into Gengar
I'd like to see snorlax, chansey, and Tauros.
I think chansey would be a wild ride. Got my fingers crossed for it.

Jrose11: Gen 1 gonna Gen 1 sometimes.
Also Jrose11: does tons of runs in this game, need to remind people that I LOVE THIS GAME just in case they didn’t know!
Sure I'll go to bed now. Its not like any RUclipsr is gonna upload no-oh there goes my sleep schedule and any chance of looking healthy enough for my hospital appointment tomorrow.
My favourite pokemon since when i was a kid, my family were not well-off, so when my aunt showed up with a gameboy, it filled my childhood with unforgettable memories. And gengar is one of the main character in those memories, as he helped me made friendships that still last til this day. Thank-you for allowing me to re live these moments and best of luck to you in these trying times!
MewTwo is more of a godlike figure in Gen 1, than Arceus is, in Gen 4.
You get the hell outta here, we don't want you here.
U again :) sup
Excuse yourself, we all know the only godlike figure named LORD HELIX
It's fun teaching Gengar Mega Drain in Gen 1.
Admittedly, that's the only Generation that I ever had any Trade Evolution Pokemon thanks to the Yellow Version "Mew Glitch".
Nidoking! There is a reason why the speedrunners holds Nidoking in high praise
He’s not that good without Items. Starmie is faster, better Special and better Moves.
Well it's probably mostly because you can get him so early
@G6 Liara speedrunners like nidoking because it evolves very early in the game(a fully evolved non bug type by the time you get to mount moon), has a great move pool, and of course the X accuracy + horn drill exploit(X accuracy ensures the next attack won't miss and horn drill is a one hit knock out move)
I'd like to see nidoking and also alakazam. It has lower stats than mewtwo and starts with confusion instead of psychic but levels a lot faster. Would be cool to see if the levels over take the base for a faster time
Alakazam would beat Gengar, should be #2 overall. Honestly Kadabra might even beat Gengar
I've been having a shitty day and I've cried for like, 2 hours. I started laughing at your fight with Bruno. Loved it. Thanks.

Great video! Gengar is one of my favorites! Would you consider doing a solo run of Red/Blue with Persian by chance please? Keep up the great work!
I've been waiting for this video and my boi Gengar came through with a FIRST TRY E4 dub! Love the videos!
Wow 2 videos within a week that’s like a world record for jrose
Hopefully this a challenge I see on the horizon?!?!
Man, that Rival 6 battle narration was the most exciting and tense battle I ever experienced in a video like that

I guess being immune to normal/fighting and toxic don't count 😂
And anything with Agility.
15:30 Reminds me of the time Homer Simpson went into the evil magick shop to get Bart a birthday gift and wound up buying an evil Krusty doll.
Holy shit, this guy actually uploaded fast for once
Love these videos Jrose, you always make the impossible seem hella interesting. Keep it up :)
Out of curiosity, as you've done a fair few of these now, do you think you could do some of these runs faster with better planning? Like, is there any of these you look at and think "I could shave a few minutes off that" if you did it a second time?
All this makes me wonder how Haunter would do among middle evolutions. (Though I still want to see a Voltorb run!) Still, great video! Thanks for uploading!
2:16 That is a puzzler!
3:00 That is phenonemenal luck.
12:46 Lol, that Thunderbolt on Nidoqueen.
14:18 Lol, close call.
14:35 Wow, no Blaine Super Potion.
15:38 Well, it does learn a couple of Psychic-type moves by level up, strange as that is. 15:55 Now that is incredible luck!
18:04 Bulky Growlithe?
18:44 Lol speed ties.
19:06 I wonder if the crit mattered there....
19:13 Lol, so many crits.
23:13 Wow!
24:24 Lol. You'd thank Lance would've given it even Rock Throw or something!
27:52 Dang! Good job, Gengar!
Haunter just doesn’t get punching and kicking moves and hyper beam. It’s slower then gengar, but fast then gastly. And slower then voltorb
@@MazterP28 Yes but Gengar isn't a middle stage Pokemon, nor is Voltorb.
If Gengar is being compared against fully evolved Pokemon, then the comparison of Haunter against things like Machoke, Wartortle, etc is what I'm interested in. I have no doubt Gengar would outperform Haunter, easily.
File this under: “Is this even a question?”
Of course it's a question! This isn't a 'can you beat' video, it's a 'how fast can you beat' video!
@@qactustick The other question is "Can it beat the game as fast as Mewtwo?" The answer is no, but it got the closest.

No way dude, I literally got inspired by your runs and wanted to try Gengar on Pokemon Stadium 2 :D
I wonder if Mewtwo or Gengar is better, lets find out.
I love the rush back into the Count voice upon the critical hit on machamp. Like he got caught leaving on an encore
I honestly would like to see a Tauros solo run considering that in competitive is, besides Mewtwo and Mew, the best mon in the game
It's level up moves suck though. Tauros is good in competitive because it's fast and wins almost all 1v1s but it's frail and won't be sweeping whole teams with ease
@@galararticuno9419 Although I do agree that it level up moves suck, I don't think it's frail. Jrose has worked with waaay worst mons and I believe that with Body Slam and Hyperbeam Tauros is capable of destroying teams (Agatha will be hard, though)
@@LuSoloLu Agatha shouldn't be that hard Tauros gets Earthquake. Blizzard for Lance too. I'm sure it is decent but the beginning is going to drag it down and Hyper Beam will require a bunch of healing items. Not having any super effective + stab opportunities means it's not going to be okhoing much either.
Came here to suggest the same thing, would be fun seeing a Tauros run.
You, are on fire my man, Thank you for the uploading run during this quarantine times!
