I never really even check ads like this, but I had Testicular Cancer recently and just for that I'll take a look. Also nice video as always.
Sheer Force life orb is one hell of a drug
You can have mediocre stats but Sheer Force Life Orb will make you hit like a truck
Nidoking never even tried to leave his fav drug
And I need another hit real bad
King: yo this edible ain’t s- **passed out with foam in his mouth**
Don't sleep on Spec.
Little personal story here, I’ve been importing my gen 3 Nidoking ever since I was a young child. He’s probably about 20 years old now
Heartwarming. Good job not leaving him behind
You’ve been dragging him around for so long maybe it’s time to let it retire.
Keep it going for its hopeful inclusion in generation 10!
Keep him around, they might give him a Mega next gen.
Same with my gen 4 one.
Nidoking is one of my favorite lower tier mons to use in OU, that guy hits like a goddamn TRUCK with all the coverage in the world.
Getting caught out of position against a nidoking feels so bad lmao
Something is dropping fr fr
Gen 8 teleport in Nido is a hell of a feeling.
@martytu20 facts, and if you got a sub off you can break the game wide open
What I like most is that Nidoking's Life Orb + Sheer Force combo with all the special coverage it has access to was so good that the people probably didn't even notice/know Nidoking got a +10 boost to it's base attack stat in Gen 6.
Lol gamefreak buffing the wrong stat
Because even with stronger physical attack, it doesn't have the move coverage that synergizes well enough. You're always going to get more out of your special attack stat.
Yeah no kidding, Nido went to the same school all the Normal types with ridiculous movepools go to. Like you know the movepool of a pokemon has always been good when he didn't even bring Hidden Power even once on gen 3 (I think)
It was noticed but since most of it's physical attack movepool aren't affected by Sheer Force, they actually still hit weaker than it's Special ones.
Instead of a measly +10 attack, they should have replaced Rivalry with Huge Power. After all, its a moon rabbit, it fits the pun much more than any of the pokemon that _do_ get it! I'm sure it would have been perfectly balanced and nothing would have gone wrong =)

Nidoking for me is one of THE gen 1 Pokémon. It's got the features shared by many gen 1 pokemon that I adore. The spikes, the sharp edges, the rugged feel, and that wonderful armored look.
Speaking of spikes, imagine if it got that move
@@MaahirMomtaz12 I could see it getting that move, to be honest
Geodude is the gen 1 Pokemon, it has a silly name but the charm hasn't worn off after 10 years.
Nidoking was one of my favorites for Pokemon Stadium use. You could give him complete coverage with his available move pool. For the 3v3's a leadoff Dugtrio, utility Nidoking and sweeper Zapdos was a team I used a lot.
The original intention of Capumon WAS mini kaiju, after all
The Nidos are a duo where no matter what you think of them, they’re respectable Pokemon that stood the test of time. And in the case of the King here, it’s interesting seeing his role shift from physical attacker to special attacker, which is something that he doesn’t look Iike he would specialize in
Sheer Force Sludge Wave hits harder than Sheer Force Poison Jab, unless it eventually gets Gunk Shot
@@MaahirMomtaz12 that 80% accuracy man idk
Sheer Force made the classic Gen 1 "every Elemental TM ever" compatibility pay dividends to him later on. It also really demonstrates the importance o f Move BP, as despite the ~15% gap in its offenses after the Gen 6 buff, its Special Movepool is so much stronger in correlating types (Sludge Wave vs PJ, Ice Punch vs Ice Beam, etc) that there's no contest in picking Special (at most Luring with Physical moves like Superpower).
Nidoking is basically a good Speed Boosting move or comparable Physical options away from "Landorus-I at home" (and Lando-I's home is Ubers so that's a fair size down)
@@TheBestFormOfHumor But the power makes up for it.
Plus, 80% isn't THAT bad, is it?
@@Oscarus4250It aint focus miss bad but that still means you'll miss 1/5 attacks. Often when it'll matter most. It'll probably depend on the metagame and what it *needs* to take out.
To this day i still remember the Stadium announcer saying "HORN DRILLLLLLL"
GRAAAAAAND SLAM!!
"that was a glancing blow........
Oh nvm he dead"
The fact that Nidoking is almost always UU despite all the power creep is one of my favorite things in competitive Pokemon.
"Would you buff it even more"
We have that it's called Landorus incarnate
Simple:
Switch its 102 attack into its sp.attack.
Give it Arcanine's stats and watch the world burn.
@@Entelarmer95 Spe would be heat
Little beside the topic, but Nido-family are great designs in a way that Pokemon has not really done ever since. Instead of being one clear animal-design with magical features, they are more like algamation of different creatures. And in a way that looks natural. They are like dinosaurs with mammal-features mixed in. They are monsters in true sense of the word.
I feel like if Nido-family were real life animals, they could be related to Monotremes, like platypus and echidna. Mammals who lay eggs.
Nidoking in particular resembles the Kaiju from the Godzilla franchise, "Baragon" so much that I have to wonder if there was some inspiration there
Nidos, Kangaskhan, Rhydon and Tyranitar really do hit different
Nidoking is actually the reason I got into Pokémon. Way back in 1st grade I noticed one of my friends was drawing. He was using one of those Pokédex books as reference. When I asked him about it, he flipped through the book showing me different Pokémon. Eventually he showed me Nidoking, and I thought it was the coolest thing ever, and from there I became totally obsessed with Pokémon. I loved browsing through the Pokémon website. Id wake up early on Saturdays to try and catch new episodes of the show. During recess my friends and I would pretend we were Pokémon and “battle”. And 16 years later I’m still a fan, though not quite as obsessed as I was when I was 6 lol. All thanks to Nidoking (and my friend of course)
Such a nice story :o
The lack of mention to Nidoking getting 10 points in its attack in Gen 6 shows just how radical its special sets is
they always forget stat buffs
@@cowgirltheworld noticed that too
Fun Fact-Nidoking seems to be inspired by the kaiju Baragon. A purple dog like dinosaur who amusingly could breathe fire and burrow through the ground.
So at least we know why Nidoking can breathe fire.
He also fought Frankenstein.
So if we ever get a Frankenstein pokemon I hope to see it clash with Nidoking.
It's weird that he wasn't Fire/Ground. Oh well.
Frankenstein is the Doctor, not the monster.
@@cristhianmlrWrong, Frankenstein is truly the monster.
@@KingStr0ng same reason why Baxcalibur isn't (Fire?) type I guess for Godzilla as well

Never underestimate the Sheer Force + Life Orb King.
I’m actually a testicular cancer survivor and appreciate the ad here. I’m 32 and 3.5 years cancer free!
Also Nidoking is such a boss, I love it! Especially when it got Sheer Force Life Orb to let it resume it’s mixed attacking role
God bless
Glad you got through it
I always say this proudly that I am one of the 15.2 Nidoking fans. I always like him in Kanto games, he looks dope as hell and has above average stats and evolves very fast, truly a divine pokemon
I hope gen 10 presents THE RETURN OF THE KING
Mega nidoking for legends ZaZa when?
Aren't 10.1 of you just gen 1 speed runners? 🤨
fellow fan here!! nidoking has such a wicked design and i love its vibes!
Nidoking is best.
Whenever Nidoqueen was brought up, I kept thinking about Nidoking being a supportive partner who cheered queen on despite taking some of the spotlight.
How wholesome.
unfortunately I doubt he could put his ego aside like that, one of his abilities is Rivalry loll
@@lucasskotiniotis1360 I mean, Rivalry gives a buff if the target is *the same* gender and a nerf if the target is *the opposite* gender. So, if anything, the ability would make the Nido's even more supportive of each other or at least decrease the change of them fighting.
@@nicolaswarren3453 you right, for some reason i thought it was a buff vs opposite gender, oop
Gotta say even though I'm not a competitive player by any means, I still love watching your videos. It's very satisfying to hear my favorite mons being praised for how good they are in competitive, and even if my other favorites aren't as praised as others, they're still very much enjoyable.
Also, I like how your videos are always one of the first results to pop up whenever I search a specific pokemon on youtube.
You should totally give it a try sometime!
The King destroys his enemies.
The Queen protects her kingdom.
The Nidos were among my faves since gen 1, and still are today.
We are long due a venusaur video remake : in your original vid, you only made passing mention of venusaur being pretty good in general 4 UU, but in nearly every vid since we keep hearing about it's stranglehold on the metagame
I actually voted the same, last Feb 27 for Pokemon's Anniversary. I thought that Venusaur would be a good choice since it's Evolutionary line is the first Pokemon in the Dex order. Not to mention that it truly deserves a remake of all things, considering it's video was like 4 years ago. Please FSG hear our plea!
My Grandma is Taller than Nidoking but when she saw the Short King in her house she had seen that it had Dynamaxed and grown Enormous. She tried to run but couldn't outrun the Raging monster and got OHKOed by his Life Orb Sheer Force Boosted Max Quake.
Guess you’re going to have to show her your shiny dusknoir now
You forgot the part where she said "This is insane!".

I didn't know the combination of Life Orb and Sheer Force was so nice.
Gen 1 movesets go one of two ways.
They go the way of your Nidokings/queens or Starmies and have absolutely incredible movesets.
Or go Aerodactyl's route are lucky to even have one stab move and a non normal type move.
Absolutely no in-between
Gen 3 was kinda like that too. Have you seen Linoone and Agron's learnset? They look like special wall breakers for some reason getting basically every coverage move under the sun. But their physical learnsets are.... lacking. Shadowball being physical was nice I guess.
@@AissurDrol tbf Linoone is a normal type. They learn many types.
But Agron is bizarre. Unless it pulls a Hippopotamus and is so dense he is able to sprint underwater, Agron shouldn't be able to use Surf lol.
Most of the gen 1 cast went to the move store on a Wednesday, but the move truck comes on Thursdays.
Finally the best Poison/Ground evolution line gets their day in the sun

With both the Johto and Hoenn starters all getting remakes as well as the recent Dragonite update and Nidoking remake, I'd say it's about time to remake the Venusaur and Blastoise videos as well.
Have commented the same thing , Im not sure if they forgot about them or they don't think those 2 are popular enough.
I'd watch that
Gengar should get a remake first. It's been way too long
@@winter9242 Venusaur is literally the 3rd video on this channel
@@EggscellentTree yeah I'm only saying because gengar is one of my faves. Would be cool for Venusaur too since he's the best gen 1 starter
Nidoking was always one of the coolest old school mons, it's funny how its typing started out being a major hindrance and just kept giving it more utility over time, which works great with its versatile movepool and Sheer Force to take advantage of it offensively.
When you use your (admittedly not much) lower Sp Atk stat rather than your Atk stat because Sheer Force is just that busted of an ability, especially since it stops recoil damage from Life Orb for some reason.
Nidoking has always had a great movepool. Even dumb kids like me recognized in Gen 1 that it was a great pokemon for running through the main game, and now it's the mon of choice for speedrunning glitchless gen 1. Honestly, with his great movepool and Sheer Force, the only thing holding him back is his relatively low BST of 495/505 generation pending.
Nikoking is the epitome of the Gen 1 Movepool
Sheer Force + Life orb goes BRRRRRRRR
7:46 jynx and love kiss from nidoking getting it on
I had a lot of success in X & Y with a physical/defensive Nidoking with Poison Point that no one used. I would switch in and both poison physical attackers and damage them with rocky helmet and then attack with moves like Poison Jab, Stone Edge, Drill Run, & Sucker Punch.
He learns earthquake tho, why drill run
To not hit allies in double battles
@@alexpfeifle879 literally just use a flying type
Because I was often switching it in and my pool of usable Pokémon at the time were not compatible enough with a teammate that could hit them with earthquake it was easier and more versatile to not use the move at all.
"Sheer Firce with Life Orb gave it a 69% boost"
Nice.
Nidoking was a great Pokémon in BDSP OU, which is always very cool
I do really enjoy Focus Punch Nidoking as a really dangerous wallbreaker that also has a solid Speed stat so it can keep pace with many offensive teams. However, a Fire move is also solid so that Skarmory and Scizor can't hold off its assault.
@@tbolt__Who asked lol

Imagine if Earthquake had a 1% chance to have a secondary effect 😮❤
It would still run Earth Power as it fills the role of a Special Attacking Ground Type
what a cute purple kaiju rabbit lizard thingy
Still waiting for the counterparts to complete:
- Carracosta
- Seviper
- other gen 5 monkeys
- Gothitelle
And I guess we could finish up Gen 2 with Sunflora, Magcargo and Corsola. I think those are the only gen 2 Pokemon left to wrap it up.
Why do you keep misspelling Seviper?
Little sidenote about GSC Nidoking: Lovely Kiss and Morning Sun (and Sweet Kiss) are from the special Pokémon Center New York event (that included some other interesting exclusives like Lovely Kiss Snorlax or Rapid Spin Geodude) but each Nidoran (hatched from an egg) can have only one of the three moves.
This means that Lovely Kiss + Morning Sun can't be used on the same Nidoking and despite the potential of the latter the sheer utility of the former is too good to pass up.
Always a staple when availble on my runs! Love his design!
My all time fav since playing Red Version. So glad you’re covering it again!!
Nidoking has been a personal favorite of mine for as long as I’ve played Pokémon games which is roughly since the year 2000ish lol
Nidoking is my fave gen 1 pokemon so Ive been waiting for this for a while
I was listening to pokemon music when this notification came up, and the video is about one of the most badass pokemon. Perfect timing.
Also, How GREAT Was Gengar ACTUALLY? My favorite Ghost type.
Finally another one of my top ten joints getting a video
My favorite pokemon of all time! thank you so much for making another video on the KING
Possible buffs: Rock Polish, Gunk Shot, Nasty Plot
Swords Dance, Dragon Dance, Calm Mind, Agility. 🔥
@KingStr0ng I'm a big advocate for DD with two SpAtks and EQ
Honestly, I doubt it would’ve kept it up in OU for Gen 9, especially with threats like Walking Wake and Great Tusk running around, but it definitely wouldn’t be weak with it checking threats like Kingambit, Gholdengo, Iron Valiant, Glimmora and Raging Bolt.
It absolutely would’ve rocked in UU, semi-countering top picks in Excadrill, Zapdos, H-Arcanine, and Hydrapple. Plus Tera may let it get some fun extra bulk and get STAB on its valuable coverage.
And personally i wish Nidoking can get dragon dance.its definitely a pokemon that looks like it can learn it plus physical nidoking is so fun to use
My favorite mon of them all. Hail to the king, baby.
Nidoking was always one of my faves.
Still waiting on the Tyranitar remake.
That said, amazing that Nidoking managed to remain viable even after all these years, especially since it did it all while NOT using its best stat.
My favorite pokemon of all time.
One of my favourite gen 1 mons. I love using Nidoking during my playthroughs
THATS MY GOAT
I've been dying for you guys to revisit Nidoking, he's absolutely one of my favorite pokemon
For me, Nidoking is the most "Pokemon" of all Pokemon. In a game of many animal and bug-adjacent creatures, Nidoking stands out design-wise as an actual pocket monster.
I’ve been waiting for this one I love using Sheer Force Nidoking with either life orb for even more damage or a focus sash on lead to ensure something gets damaged
15:49
"A massive 69% power boost"
Ha nice
My favorite pokemon a week after my birthday thank you false swipe
I love mons like this, who get incremental tools to change and evolve their game over time, and they make for the best videos imo. Reminds me of Feraligatr in a lot of ways (not just Sheer Force), but the crazy thing about King is he doesn't even need to boost, which given his paltry 85 sp atk and speed is really cool/unique in higher tiers.
Nice! One of my favorite pokemon.
Great video, you just forgot to mention the very slight stat buff Nidoking received in gen 6!
Fantastic it hold so well, balancing beween OU and UU until the end despite power creep.
Nidoking became one of my favorite generation 1 mons ever since i learned about the lvl 100 before Brock glitch for Yellow. It made me appreciate its design a lot more.
The purple king that absolutely dominated the early game in my first ever team in Pokemon Blue. By being fully evolved after Mt. Moon (before the second or third gym I think?) I believe I named it Rex. Godspeed Rex. You were an OG.
I hope Gen 10 let's us use Nidoking again.
Also, I feel like he needs a small buff. I'd give him Gunk Shot, and allow moves that have higher crit chances, like Cross Chop or Drill Run, to be Sheer Force boosted, but take away the crit chance. I always felt it was weird that higher crit chances weren't considered secondary effects.
Sheerforce + Life Orb is *Chef Kiss* with Ice Beam, Fire Blast, Sludge Wave and Earth Power
In RBY, my venasaur, snorlax, zapdos, nidoking, nidoqueen, and vaporeon were my all-star team. Access to the nidos before the 2nd gym was so broken. I even traded that team to GSC and with the addition of typhlosion, red was no match.
I love bunmon, always used him
great video, really great, and I really hope you can do nidoqueen next.
15:47 - Nice
This thing has always been one of my favorites mons design-wise. I used to always end up with one in any generation playthrough which had it. Blessed to have the Sheer Force + Life Orb combo.
One of the coolest gen 1 mons. I was the poison gym leader for a Facebook group in ORAS-early USUM and the combination of Nido and Toxicroak won me a lot of battles. You had to guess if my Nido had Life Orb special set with Superpower, Choice Band, or Choice Specs and if my Croak was Nasty Plot, SubPunch, or Choice Scarf full physical set. They worked together very well
My favorite Short King!
The lad, the boy, the king.

Yes a Remake onmy Favorite Pokemon! The Cherry on top would have been if Vish came back to voice it again.
I remember that in Gen 8, Nidoking was benefited by the limited pool of counters against it, due to Dexit. Making it stayed in OU on the first months of the post-CT meta.
Love your work guys ❤
One suggestion I feel making: slow down the animations of the video. A great thing about your videos is to see the old style graphics and animations; when they are sped up like that it's harder to do it.
Other than that keep up the great work ❤
My time has arrived.
Nidoking has always been my favourite pokemon. I really dominated a draft league with scarf nidoking once
My boy! The OG Goat of Pokemon design! Always my number one Pokemon!
