Perhaps the next theorem video could be why move sets (like mix attacking, fast physical, bulky special, etc) are close to everything or the Dragonite theorem
What I like most is that Nidoking's Life Orb + Sheer Force combo with all the special coverage it has access to was so good that the people probably didn't even notice/know Nidoking got a +10 boost to it's base attack stat in Gen 6.
Because even with stronger physical attack, it doesn't have the move coverage that synergizes well enough. You're always going to get more out of your special attack stat.
Yeah no kidding, Nido went to the same school all the Normal types with ridiculous movepools go to. Like you know the movepool of a pokemon has always been good when he didn't even bring Hidden Power even once on gen 3 (I think)
Instead of a measly +10 attack, they should have replaced Rivalry with Huge Power. After all, its a moon rabbit, it fits the pun much more than any of the pokemon that _do_ get it! I'm sure it would have been perfectly balanced and nothing would have gone wrong =) ... The Nidos are a duo where no matter what you think of them, they’re respectable Pokemon that stood the test of time. And in the case of the King here, it’s interesting seeing his role shift from physical attacker to special attacker, which is something that he doesn’t look Iike he would specialize in
Sheer Force made the classic Gen 1 "every Elemental TM ever" compatibility pay dividends to him later on. It also really demonstrates the importance o f Move BP, as despite the ~15% gap in its offenses after the Gen 6 buff, its Special Movepool is so much stronger in correlating types (Sludge Wave vs PJ, Ice Punch vs Ice Beam, etc) that there's no contest in picking Special (at most Luring with Physical moves like Superpower). Nidoking is basically a good Speed Boosting move or comparable Physical options away from "Landorus-I at home" (and Lando-I's home is Ubers so that's a fair size down)
@@Oscarus4250It aint focus miss bad but that still means you'll miss 1/5 attacks. Often when it'll matter most. It'll probably depend on the metagame and what it *needs* to take out.
I’m actually a testicular cancer survivor and appreciate the ad here. I’m 32 and 3.5 years cancer free! Also Nidoking is such a boss, I love it! Especially when it got Sheer Force Life Orb to let it resume it’s mixed attacking role
We are long due a venusaur video remake : in your original vid, you only made passing mention of venusaur being pretty good in general 4 UU, but in nearly every vid since we keep hearing about it's stranglehold on the metagame
I actually voted the same, last Feb 27 for Pokemon's Anniversary. I thought that Venusaur would be a good choice since it's Evolutionary line is the first Pokemon in the Dex order. Not to mention that it truly deserves a remake of all things, considering it's video was like 4 years ago. Please FSG hear our plea!
My Grandma is Taller than Nidoking but when she saw the Short King in her house she had seen that it had Dynamaxed and grown Enormous. She tried to run but couldn't outrun the Raging monster and got OHKOed by his Life Orb Sheer Force Boosted Max Quake.
One of my favorite Mons of all time. Always on my team for every playthrough he's available in. Always nicknamed him Avatar since he uses all elements 😅
With both the Johto and Hoenn starters all getting remakes as well as the recent Dragonite update and Nidoking remake, I'd say it's about time to remake the Venusaur and Blastoise videos as well.
Nidoking has always had a great movepool. Even dumb kids like me recognized in Gen 1 that it was a great pokemon for running through the main game, and now it's the mon of choice for speedrunning glitchless gen 1. Honestly, with his great movepool and Sheer Force, the only thing holding him back is his relatively low BST of 495/505 generation pending.
I had a lot of success in X & Y with a physical/defensive Nidoking with Poison Point that no one used. I would switch in and both poison physical attackers and damage them with rocky helmet and then attack with moves like Poison Jab, Stone Edge, Drill Run, & Sucker Punch.
Because I was often switching it in and my pool of usable Pokémon at the time were not compatible enough with a teammate that could hit them with earthquake it was easier and more versatile to not use the move at all.
For me, Nidoking is the most "Pokemon" of all Pokemon. In a game of many animal and bug-adjacent creatures, Nidoking stands out design-wise as an actual pocket monster.
Honestly, I doubt it would’ve kept it up in OU for Gen 9, especially with threats like Walking Wake and Great Tusk running around, but it definitely wouldn’t be weak with it checking threats like Kingambit, Gholdengo, Iron Valiant, Glimmora and Raging Bolt. It absolutely would’ve rocked in UU, semi-countering top picks in Excadrill, Zapdos, H-Arcanine, and Hydrapple. Plus Tera may let it get some fun extra bulk and get STAB on its valuable coverage.
Still waiting for the counterparts to complete: - Carracosta - Seviper - other gen 5 monkeys - Gothitelle And I guess we could finish up Gen 2 with Sunflora, Magcargo and Corsola. I think those are the only gen 2 Pokemon left to wrap it up.

Nidoking became one of my favorite generation 1 mons ever since i learned about the lvl 100 before Brock glitch for Yellow. It made me appreciate its design a lot more.
Gen5 Nidoking went absolutely crazy with special attacks and this also made it even better at running hazards because so many Pokemon will run for their lives when they see Nidoking
I know it's mainly a competitive battles vid, but I'd have liked to see a mention of Gen 1 Nidoking in the context of competitive speedrunning, since it's the single best in slot gen 1 mon for a speedrun.
This thing has always been one of my favorites mons design-wise. I used to always end up with one in any generation playthrough which had it. Blessed to have the Sheer Force + Life Orb combo.
Nidoking is one of my favourite designs! having an amazing ability and movepool absolutely slaps. the life-orb stab and coverage hits everything for huge damage.
I hope Gen 10 let's us use Nidoking again. Also, I feel like he needs a small buff. I'd give him Gunk Shot, and allow moves that have higher crit chances, like Cross Chop or Drill Run, to be Sheer Force boosted, but take away the crit chance. I always felt it was weird that higher crit chances weren't considered secondary effects.
Imagine if his attack stat was spread among his other stats. It's just sitting there absolutely uselessly and he's still in UU. Or some good sheer force physical moves could be equally as good.
I know some people import their pokemon from older gen games to the newer ones. Imagine like decades from now, if pokemon moves to VR, we can import our 40+ year old pokemon to VR? That would be awesome
I have raised so many Nidoking in my life and in competitive mono type ground (XY-USUM) I’ll never forget that one time I was on showdown and my opponent got incredibly angry at the fact I ran Focus Sash Nidoking instead of the Life Orb variant and got the win, claiming that everyone uses Life Orb And a friendly tip for anyone who wants to use a Nidoking in the RBY/FRLG Always evolve your Nidorino before 22 to learn Thrash off the bat as a early auto kill button
nidoking is like a fighting game grappler. No tricks, no bullshit, just honest fundamentals. Good movepool, good offensive stabs, great ability. Not topping OU any time soon but gets the job done where he needs to and thrives in whatever tier he ends up in
Ohh ya know what would be a cool video the most important move of each generation. Moves like sleep talk and stealth rock effected the meta is major ways completely changing how we play the game.
Fun Fact: In RBY Speedruns, Nidoking is the most, if not the only used Pokemon, bc. of his versatile moveset, combined with good base stats and early access. This shows, how good Nidoking outside of competitive is. Okay, in Speedruns, they use a lot of X-Items and they are broken on itself.
My favorite pokemon & 1st shiny way back in firered! Nothing but love for the King! Wish it was in Gen 9 with tera to see if it would of finally been VGC viable or at least a better niche!
I like Nidoking because I caught a Nidoran male in my first nuzlocke of FireRed, and that thing proceeded to steamroll everything past Erika's gym. It was an absolutely insane mon and I'm glad to see it withstood the test of time in competitive.
Still waiting on the Tyranitar remake. That said, amazing that Nidoking managed to remain viable even after all these years, especially since it did it all while NOT using its best stat.
Nidoking has always been able to fill some niche, whether it's as a wallbreaker, a Sheer Force sweeper, or as a really fun Toxic/Toxic Spikes + Venom Drench spammer.
Bston passing quiver dance to Nido was an automatic win, I ran It max special attk and hp,, tmid nature and I use intimidate masquerain to pass the dances lol
Nidoking was one of my faves growing up. Years ago in Gold, I taught him each of the elemental punches and Earthquake and kept soloing the league with him. Good times.😊
I would love for both Nidos to get a buff. They’re one of those Pokemon that are so unique and loved that they should given special treatment like Gard, Gengar, Charizard… etc. Buffs: Rivalry should have its draw back removed. No clue why it’s included and it just makes a Pokemon weak. If removed it can be pretty interesting to use. Stats: 10+ on both. Fem 5/5 on defense and male 5/5 on Spec. Att and speed. Megas: hopefully they’ll get a mega in the future. I can imagine fem getting battle armor and male getting something like merciless 😅.
Well, while Sheer Force + Life Orb is the best in slot for Nido. I was dwelled in the Scarf Nido for quite some time. The surprise bait to the faster in meta pokemon amused me so much until I realized my damage isn't enough if it wasn't a x4 weakness hit. So back to Life Orb it is.
The fact that nidoking is an OU viable special wallbreaker in late gens with lower speed than Meowth and the same SpA as Murkrow definitely says something about Pokémon but I have no idea what it is
I love Nidoking. If you asked me what my all-time favorite Pokemon was it's Nidoking. Recently started hoping that Gamefreak would give it a pseudo legendary evolution that you can only get if you level it to fifty-five or something. A better reward for putting in the extra effort of raising a Nidorino.
Nidoking was always my favorite Pokemon (Haunter and Tentacruel take 2 and 3 respectively, Poison best). It might not have been the best around in it's initial generation (outside of speedruns of course), but it's always been an absolute monster. As for what buffs I'd like to see for it in the future... I'd love to see if Nidoking (and the Queen of course) got a stat-booster like Dragon Dance or something for it's speed stat. Imagine the terror of swapping in your supposed quicker counter thinking you can eat the hit and dish it back out only to see that not only does Nidoking now outspeed your counter without a Scarf, now THEY have to deal with taking Sheer Force/Life Orb pain. Sure, it means that Nidoking's move flexibility might take a bit of a hit and thus someone has to start gambling/fishing to see what coverage option you sacrificed for something like that, but there's nothing stopping someone from just whipping out the classic four-attack or Sub sets then!
nidoking use to be my fave next to gengar and alakazam but due to needing trade for the other 2 he was my strongest especially after learning all three element punches and hyper beam (plus his old cards were tier 1), but him bein like 4 ft crushed
Nidoking and Nidoqueen felt like the perfect candidates for Mega Evolution, I feel like it a serious miss given some of the Megas we got instead (looking at you, Mega Audino)
Nidoking deserves dragon dance. Let's look at it's distribution for a sec. A rock snake, crocodile, seahorse, catfish, lobster, saggy-pants kid, and sushi all get it. I think this beast kaiju looking thing should. That would give it enough set variety to be more threatening again. Is it special wall breaker or physical setup sweeper? Also a smidge more bulk would be cool, but with DD you could spec into defense and use screens to give you a few turns of setup while soaking some damage.
It’s insane to see a Pokémon so perfectly balanced in terms of stats with a perfect design, typing , and presence in nearly every single generation of Pokémon without being too overpowered

For a second, I thought I heard "ballswipe"
0:19 Don't forget Paul of the DPPT series used one against Brandon of the Battle Pyramid.
They even showed a picture of it.
It’s so crazy to me how this GROUND type can learn THUNDERBOLT
My boy! The OG Goat of Pokemon design! Always my number one Pokemon!
Do you remember when remakes were named "How GREAT was (Pokemon) ACTUALLY?"
Pepperidge Farm remembers.
The Nidoqueen remake is gonna be quite the thing
Nido boy was my first lvl100, in yellow. I got stuck cause i couldnt even read. That was at digglet cave.
Its such a beast. Always my MVP in any fan game.
15:45-15:49 nice
It’s insane to see a Pokémon so perfectly balanced in terms of stats with a perfect design, typing , and presence in nearly every single generation of Pokémon without being too overpowered
