      @Jason, if you were to recommend a bike between the Bronson, Stumpjumper, or the SB130. Which one would you go with? I am about to buy a bike and just started riding within the last month or so. I have ridden the Stumpjumper 3 times now, but have not had a chance to ride the sb130 or the Bronson. Tbh, it's a little overwhelming trying to find the right bike that I can have fun on now and grow into as I get more comfortable.

      Hi MTB yumyum! I'm a short rider at 5'4" (proportioned trunk:legs). That SB130 is on my radar since its launch. But it only comes with 29" wheels. Do you think it will suit a rider my size with its small size frame or with any other 29 brands?

  • @31acruz

    Really love your reviews dude, because you are not afraid to compare the feel of the bike to others, that triples or quadruples the value of your reviews because we can look up those other bikes reviews (that's if we don't already know them) and really get a more complete picture. You in essence by comparing, helps us do our "due diligence" faster, much faster. Thanks for that, and keep up the good work man!

    I recently purchased a 130. The first thing I did was swap the fork to a 160mm FOX 36 with the grip2 damper. This bike is a monster. I plow through everything. No F$#ks given. It climbs super well and like the MTB yum yum said, its super supportive. Go get one. Swap the fork, then point and shoot. You will not be disappointed.

    I opted to recently buy an sb5.5 over the new sb130. Mainly because the large in the 5.5 fits me well(though it is on the short side compared to newer bikes, but I enjoy a more nimble 29er). And I wanted 140-150mm suspension. I'm glad I did. My previous bikes were a Hightower LT and Pivot mach5.5. The amazing thing is that the sb5.5 flies up climbs in addition to being excellent at descents. I never thought I'd buy a Yeti but I love it. And I do use the under the down tube water bottle holder!

    Yeti have made the CLR and TLR versions of the sb130, with 137mm of travel and 160mm of fork with the fox 36 grip 2. It starts to be very interesting! The best of both worlds in my opinion!

    A word of caution on sizing. I'm 6'2 and sized up to an XL SB130. Inseam 34". I've got super long arms and the reach of the XL is perfect. Make sure you demo before you buy if you are close or between sizes. Bike felt a little big first couple of rides but when you get used to it the stability is awesome.

      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah, it's weird.... if someone was struggle with the decisions to purchase the sb130 or sb100 I'd tell them to get the 100, if someone was between the sb130 and sb150 I'd tell them to go with the sb150.... haha Not that the sb130 is bad, it's just trying to be a lot of different things.... honestly, I really believe most people would be just fine on an sb100

      Trevor, good to hear. Yeah, I had the bike for 3 days and feel like a got a good setup on the sb130... Yeti has a good baseline (starting point) setup on their website for each bike as well. Congrats on the new 130!

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад +1

      MTB Savant, totally agree... people wanna have an "enduro/EWS" ready bike but never send it at speeds anywhere close to what would be required to get some of these bikes to there limit. That said, it's a lot of fun to ride a big long travel bike on rough terrain but the reality is, most of my riding is done on single track and the sb100 just pops off everything and brings even the most boring trail to life!

    Jason, any chance you foresee doing a review on the redesigned Cannondale Habit 2019? I had a chance to demo one a week ago and really liked it but I haven’t ridden many other models to compare it against. Liked it more than the new Giant Trance 29 that I rode. Been out of the game for a while and haven’t pulled the trigger on a new bike yet so I was wondering if you will demo and review the Habit or if any of your buddies have commented on it to you! first: please continue to do these awesome reviews :)
    i had Ripley V3 and now i own a regular SB130 for a month and a half now, sooooo good !
    never in my life (and i am 50 years old) had a bike that fit me. i am 6'4 and 238.1lb (but who's counting:).
    1) turns - for me is not so demanding on the turns, i do charge a little or maybe have enough weight for all wheels :). i am so centered on the SB130 so on drops (not doing BIG ones) i do not need to make a huge effort to get the front up a little ... it is just so amazing and turns so amazing fast and fun
    2) bike weight - funny but the tallboy 2022 is the same as SB130 - why not have more suspension ??. but to get it under 30lb you need carbon wheels with no crazy wide tires.
    3) Time - I timed 38km rout (230m climbing, fast rout) it was exactly the same speed and the same average HR as my Ripley V3(same outside temperatures) .
    4) Fun - so fun to get this bike in the air with my 238lb... turns and drops... stable.. so much fun
    5) technical - on the technical stuff the SB130 just wants to help you instead of "stuck" on the rocks like i felt on the Ripley V3.
    Do not get me wrong, loved the Ripley but when started to ride a little harder/gnarly the bike just is not enough and hung up on stuff even on XC routs when you have some rocks specially on the climbs.
    The Ripley V3 (9cm stem since it was too short), Ripley V4 is worse (with 5cm stem).
    I bought the Ripley V4 and left it in the bike shop, after waiting 6 month for the bike.
    the V4 numbers are increased but the steep angle just "eat" some of that so ... no good for tall guys.
    it is so important to try the bike and see that it is OK for you and your current style of riding.

  • @LP-ll8td

    Did you ever try the TLR build of the SB130? The TLR provides 160mm from a Fox 36 GRIP2 up front and 137mm from a modified DPX2 out back. Kind of moves you towards an SB150 without the commitment. Also, looking at the TLR and T3 builds it's essentially X01 on the TLR and XX1 on the T3, although the TLR might be specced with better brakes(?).
    Alternatively, one can put a GRIP2 cartridge into the 150mm fork and replace the DPX2 with an X2...(all out of your own pocket). What route might you consider?
    Oh yes, any final thoughts on the DT Swiss XMC1200 "upgrade" wheels?
    Keep up the great reviews. Enjoy your enthusiasm.

      The sb130 climbs better than the Hightower. The Hightower feels like it has more travel and is a bit more plush on the descents. That said, the sb130 still felt very stable and capable. And the hightower feels like the shorter more playful zippy bike in the slower stuff. That one area the hightower really shines... slower tigher trails it feels super fun and playful. def not selling my sb100 for a 130.... no thanks. the sb130 isn't going to feel as playful as your sb5.... it will be more stable and in control feeling at higher speeds. The sb5 is a fun bike.... the sb100 feels poppy and snappy more like the sb5 though... good luck!

    Love your reviews always makes me want to get out and ride more! I'd apreciate your opinion on something. I ride in Arizona where it's rocks rocks more rocks. I have a 6" dw link bike for going fast. Now I'm looking for something that is more capable in the technical tight stuff especially climbing that we see out here. (Look up RUclips videos of national trail) I rode and loved an sb4.5, but in the faster rough sections I felt myself wishing for a bit more travel. Sb100 also super responsive and nearly as agile in the technical climbs as the 4.5 but on the rough decents didn't gel at all. Haven't been able to get on an sb5.5, but I just can't imagine it having too much of a climbing deficit vs 4.5. (and there's lots of good closeout deals) the bike I really wanted to try is the Ripley v4, but I can't find a demo anywhere and they're two months back ordered if I did decide I wanted one. So given the terrain here would you lean towards the 4.5 or the Ripley? Maybe the 5.5 with a more progressive set up may just Trump them?

    Hi, thanks for the great videos, if possible could you give a quick answer to what considerations to take into account if I was to choose between the SB130 and SB5. I know one has 29" wheels and the other 27.5" but is one designed for different types of terrain, length of ride etc? After recently returning to mountain biking after a 20 year absence I bought a budget bike and am totally hooked again. Seriously considering investing in a quality bike next year. Really like the look of the Yeti Bikes, I know you should not judge on looks alone but they do look amazing.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад +1

      Thank you and welcome back to riding! Those two bike feel very different even though they're both "trail" bikes. The sb5 will feel a lot more snappy and quick feeling.. will want to pop off stuff more easily and feel quicker in the tight terrain. The sb130 will feel a bit more stable and in control at higher speeds. You should try and demo them on the same day back-to-back so as to more clearly see the differences... good luck!

      Thanks for the reply @@mtbyumyum, would you have a preference between the two if you were doing a 30-40 mile ride on single track with lots undulating terrain with short to medium climbs? Also just noticed the 2019 SB5 frame is out soon, hope you get to do a demo video on that bike too :)

I would rather a less complicated, less costly alternative. What do you guys think? Side note, more people seem to favour the dw link from Ibis or Pivot. Due to easier maintenance??

      Brigita this is Verdon's wife. I will tell you that I love, love, love my new Beti (SB5)! I am 5'2'' and about 110 lbs with my gear on, technically this puts me in the xtra-small sizing for the bikes, but when I sat on them, the xsmall felt too squished so I went with the small. When I ride it, even the first time, on unfamiliar trails, it feels surprisingly natural. I hope yours feels as good. I am glad we waited for the 2019 to come out because I love the Midnight color better than the turquoise color and the wider tires give tremendous grip, and the 36 fork feels very stable. Our first ride on our new bikes (besides our demo rides) was in Moab, which is very technically challenging trails compared to what we are used to in Colorado. This bike gave me incredible (maybe a bit false) sense of confidence and I was amazed at the way it climbed over stuff that I would have never been able to get up over on my cross country bike. Glad you have one coming!! Enjoy it.

    No.1 reviews! Jason: you rode a medium SB130 at 5'8". How did the new forward geo feel? Not too stretched? Also since steeper STA = longer wheelbase (1205 mm / 77 STA for the SB130), in your opinion how does this new geo affect the "playfulness" of such bikes (for example the medium Instinct WB is 1179 mm/ 75 STA, Ripmo 1190 mm / 76 STA, Offering 1201 mm / 77 STA, Smuggler 1184 / 76 STA)? The Ripmo and sb150 are my two favorite long travel bikes at the moment. If it's your only bike and you want to have long days in the saddle over many miles, the Ripmo is the better choice in my opinion. It will build up a little lighter weight with the dpx2 and swap the heavy tires and wheels for something lighter weight. If your only concern is smashing down hill segments, get the sb150... it's incredible with loads of traction.... it's just tracks the ground so well. Ripmo climbs better and I think will be able to build up lighter weight for long days of xc/trail use. Good luck!

    I love this bike!! I would like to buy one. I am 5 7" just in between S and M size. I have long legs and short body. Do you suggest to stay on M size or S , since it's seem very long? Thank you!!

    Jason,
    Just saw this bike up close at the shop I go to. What a beautiful machine! What do you prefer, the Pivot Trail 429 or this SB 130?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад

      I personally go for the Trail 429 between the two... if you want something a little longer travel and ready for higher speeds look to the Ibis Ripmo. Good luck!

    I am super interested in this bike but I'm also really looking at the norco sight 29 and the hightower lt in the 5k-ish build levels. I need one bike to do it all, how would these three compare? and which would you choose? I also ride a lot in the draper and park city areas.

    New sub here, loving the reviews and footage.. Would you have a recommendation for someone trying to choose between the Ibis Ripmo, SB130, and Fezzari La Sal Peak? Im a larger male, 6'3 270, and wondering if any of these are in my range, and if so, which would be most optimal for someone my size? Thanks in advance, and please keep posting great content.

      Hi, welcome! Given you're height and weight, I'd point you toward the Yeti SB130. The shock stroke feels more progressive than the Ripmo and think it will ride better for a heavier rider like yourself. Also, the seat tube angle is very steep and you feels less of that "off the back of the bike" feeling on the SB130. Good luck!

      MTB yumyum perfect! Thanks so much for your input. I was looking for a reason to buy that beautiful stallion and now I have it! Lol. Thanks again.

    Great review! I have a SB5 with a Fox 36/160mm fork which I feel transformed the bike so much I really didn’t like it with the 34/150, I’m wondering if you think the 130 might benefit similarly with a burlier fork, a 160, maybe even a 170?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад

      Honestly, at that point I'd just go with the sb150

      Interesting, I thought that about the sb6 as well, until I tried the 160 on the sb5. :p All the climb, with more descent. Good to know! Thanks for your input and the reviews!

    Great riding Jay. My ultimate Christmas Wishlist dream RUclips video would be a Mtb Yumyum Detailed ride comparison between Yeti Sb150 and Pivot Firebird 29..
    ...just sayin 😜👍🏼

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад

      Well, I rode both those bikes back-to-back a week ago on jacobs ladder... after spending two days on the sb150 and a day on the firebird29 I can say with confidence, the Yeti sb150 is hands down the best long travel 29er ever! It blew me away in every section of trail, even at slower speeds where long travel bikes can feel a bit meh the sb150 is a lot of fun. Loved my time on the sb150.

    • @deanherde805
      @deanherde805 6 лет назад +1

      MTB yumyum wow that’s awesome. Thanks Jay. I didn’t realise it would be that much better. How do you rate the Firebird?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад

      Oddly enough, the Firebird29 felt more poppy than the sb150... weird to be saying that given the 162mm of travel and 29" wheels... I had the suspension dialed on that bike too so it wasn't a fluke thing... it was nice and I get it.... it's a cool bike but I'd go with the sb150... that and the Ibis Ripmo are probably my favorite LT29ers right now...

    Do you think your experience of it being less composed might be due to the need for more fine-tuning of the suspension? I'm leaning toward the 130LR...would love to see you do a comparison with that.

    So I currently own Pivot Mach 5.5 and and SB 100. Those two bikes cover all the riding I do. Realizing the Mach 5.5 is 27.5, how would you compare it to the SB 130?
    I’m also thinking Yeti will be updating their 27.5 models next year...

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад +3

      Interesting, we own very similar bikes.... sb100 and Rocky Mountain Altitude. I wouldn't trade a Mach 5.5 for a sb130 if I was in your same situation. In fact, I'd stick with the two bikes you currently have.... don't know that you could do any better honestly! As to the difference, the sb130 feels faster than a m5.5 basically everywhere accept maybe coming out of tight corners but the m5.5 is more fun!

      I actually replaced my Mach 5.5 with the Yeti SB130. The 5.5 was too much bike for 90% of my riding. Hopefully I don't regret the decision.

    I really was set on the Trail 429, but in the last two days I found myself leaning to the SB130, especially since Yeti can fit a bottle inside the frame triangle. But I got to ask: Does a 0,7 litre bottle fit in a size L frame or just the kiddy sized ones?
    Also, as a side note, I can't understand how the bike manual on the Pivot website (for the Trail 429) is from 2006 (I kid you not!). How can Pivot sell premium bikes and not even have an up to date manual? Anybody who owns an Ibis bike? Now they went the extra mile and really put a book together.
