    Love me some Ibis! I'd get that bike if I already did not invest in my Ripley LS so heavily. Really like the new geometry and reach that Ibis is building. I wish my Ripley had a tad more reach. Your reviews are excellent; I do believe the best reviewer of Mountain Bikes on RUclips. Great to see one of your videos again - was wondering what the heck had happened to you. Thanks for the great video.

    Hi MTB yumyum. Wanted to give you a HUGE shoutout from Denver. I find your videos to be the best MTB review/comparison videos on the internet. The first time I saw your screen name it instantly reminded me of a beer called Princess yumyum from the Denver Beer Co. A little "girlier" but I find it to be pretty refreshing. Anyways, I have read through many of the comments and am beyond impressed by the amount of replies you are able to give to people. Found you after looking for a new bike and am still looking into them. Last weekend I demo'd the SB5.5, Hightower LT and then I jumped on something completely different...the all new SB100. That bike absolutely blew my mind! Couldn't believe the amount of fun I was having on a 100mm bike. Tried that bike because my LBS decided to take the cash on the only medium Ripmo they had up for demo. Now I'm feeling like I need two bikes...agree with one of your below replies that the SB5.5 leaves something to be desired. HTLT was an absolute blast. I found one ripmo but am unable to demo. Tough to buy a bike I have never been on. But I feel the ripmo is/has been calling my name. Don't want to leave the LBS hanging by purchasing online because that is the only place I can find a ripmo. Sorry about the long post. Thanks again for all your hard work and effort. PS I would pay for more in-depth comparison videos. Just sayin :)

      B P, thank you for the kind words... the channel has been taking up a lot more of my time lately and sometimes I just need a break... sorry for the delayed reply! Well, I'll be demoing the SB100 this week... very excited to give it a go! If you can own two mountain bikes I think this is the best way to experience riding! For me, I like to have a big ridiculous bike for the steep gnarly days and a more "do everything" bike like the SB100 or something similar! My buddy Landon actual owns the Ripmo and SB100 and he is in bike heaven! Good luck tracing down a Ripmo, honestly, it's one of the few bikes I could recommend just about anyone buy even without a proper test ride, it's so good!

    Hey Jason, I'm a big fan of the channel! I started watching when I began researching buying a new bike, probably six months ago. Still haven't decided yet...it's a big decision. I'm from Tahoe and was out at a ski competition for my son, at Snowbird this last weekend and brought my bike. I rode at Corner Canyon for the first time, on the same day you made this video. Super fun. Just wanted to say thanks for the great bike reviews and the inspiration!

      Dang, should have reached out to me on instagram or strava to ride! We have season passes to Snowbird for the kids but I mostly just go touring early morning before work! Good luck on your search for your bike! I'll be in Tahoe end of July!

    Love your reviews. This Ripmo checks all the right boxes for me. Was torn between it and the Hightower LT but pulled the trigger on a Ripmo. Reviews like yours are driving sales because there are back orders out to July already.

    Someone I know snapped his ripmo frame yesterday, it snapped in the middle of the top tube going off a very small 5” inch drop, un believable but true and very worrying. They are replacing the frame for him, I personally wouldn’t want another after that !!!!!!

    Well I rented a Ripmo. This bike is absolutely awesome. I am sure the SB150 is crazy good too but I don’t feel I need to look any farther. My next big dilemma is which build to buy and what upgrades to add. I think the NX with carbon wheels and the x2 shock will be it for me. Might add the factory fork for tuneability. That’s 500 bucks I am not sure I will notice.

    What are your thoughts on this bike vs a Pivot Switchblade? I know they are somewhat different as far as travel is concerned but they are the two I have narrowed it down to. Looking for a 29er mid to long travel that can take on the trails we have here in AZ. Also in the 4-5k range.

    Hello "Yumyum" (hello all) thank you very much for your nice reviews and the one of the Ibis Ripmo in particular. I am sending an SOS across the ocean: for my next birthday (50 years old) my present will be a nice bike… I have 8 500 US$ for that as maximum budget (considering the sale of my current bike), a lot of money for a special event of my life (never thought before I could spend so much money for a bike! I know it is a hard dilemma! :)). I have been riding regularly now for six years: first on a hardtail Scott Scale 940 and then, the last 3 years on a Scott Genius 720 plus (27.5+ tires). I will not have the opportunity to test any bike in the months to come (no occasion, too busy with my work and not so ease in France) and so, I only rely on the several reviews I have reading since I know that I will have this great present for my birthday (September 1st). I am riding rocky trails in the South of France most of the times (2 to 3 times per week) but spent some time in the Alpes each year. The next expensive bike should be the one I am going to keep for a couple of years. The Ripmo seems a good bike and my local dealer proposed me the following: Ripmo black / Fox x2 - Fox 36 factory grip2 + renthal fatbar carbon stealth limited edition + ks lev si 150 - Sram Nx eagle - Shimano xt 8120 4 pistons 180/180 - Santa Cruz reserve / dt350- maxxis minion dhf/ aggressor - hope f20 (or GX/X01+DT Swiss EX 1501 one 30+ks lev 175).
    Is it the good bike for me? I Like going up and down (but don’t like when it is really too steep), having fun, discovering new natural places with my bike… I am starting with small jumps (but knowing that I don’t have 20 any longer!), but above all I love the flow of meandering intermediate slope trails… Ripmo the right choice? Or should I go for a Trek Remedy 9.9 2020? YT SB130? Unfortunately, I hate the new Santa Cruz colors… Because part of my local trails is rocky and gnarly I think that bikes like the Ibis Ripley or the Trek Fuel EX are not the best suited… So, is the Ripmo, my dream bike? Thank you for very much for helping me.
    Philippe

      that build and an nx eagle? it should have the best on the market for that price man... if you live close to Genova, italy, go there at 4guimp, they sell ibis bikes and you'll get a better build for the money for sure! although i never tried the ripmo i cannot say anything about the bike, but get a gx eagle at least (Y)

    • @philippecuny2278
      @philippecuny2278 5 лет назад +1

      @@TheMTBRider96Thank you, Nicola, for you comment and advice... sure I feel a little bit uncomfortable with the NX Eagle proposal. The fact is that, following the recommendations of “Yumyum”, I asked for carbon wheels (Santa Cruz expensive but very good Reserve 30 ones). But for sure, it is a lot of money. The other point is that my local bike shop is offering me a good price for my 3 years old Scott Genius… still I have the feeling that the proposal is not as good as it should be. I will have a look at 4guimp offers (4h from Marseille), thank you again. Have fun and enjoy your rides.

    Enjoyed the review! I have a year-old Ripley LS built up just how I want it, and this tempts me to trade it in for a similarly built Ripmo. It would seem that I would be adding a pound of weight, as my LS is just under 28 lbs. That shouldn't be a deal-breaker, but I do enjoy the climbs and I do epic XC rides. My downhill style hasn't pushed me past the limits of the Ripley, so I am probably on the right bike. Only a demo ride could solve it for sure, though!

    Hi jason, I just bought ripmo a week ago. Planning to get another bike 27.5 end of this year . Coming from SC Bronson 2017 and YT Capra . I loved my RIPMO! It doesn’t feel like a 29er. Anyway, I’m thinking about the HD4 but concern it’s the same as RIPMO like 27.5 version. Appreciate your feedback or insight . Thanks!

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад +2

      Yeah, your concern is valid. They're very similar bikes with different wheel sized. That's not to say you wouldn't enjoy both but honestly, depending on what you want the 27.5 bike for you might look to the Mojo 3 so as to create a very different experience between the two bikes. Good luck! btw, I loved the Mojo 3 and this it would be a lot of fun along side the Ripmo!

    Thanks for a great review Jason. In your opinion, is there any point in going for a shorter travel bike when the longer travel ones (Stumpjumper, Ripmo etc) climb so well and display the agility of a shorter travel bike? On paper the terrain I ride would probalby be better suited for a Ripley or Tallboy type of bike but I mean if one can get more travel with a similar feel... Thanks again, keep the great content coming!

    The question is this...if you were buying again today, would you pick the Ripmo or the HD4??

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад +10

      Not enough information.... hahaha! Do I own another bike? For example, would this be my only bike or would I still own my current bikes? If it were my only bike between these two, I'd likely go Ripmo. But I currently own a Rocky Mountain Instinct, 140mm 29er that only weighs 26 lbs and he does everything really well... so, in that case, I'd go for the HD4 to provide a completely different experience then my other bike. The HD4 is a bit on the big side for daily riding and if I could only have one bike, it'd likely be a 29er.... something like my Instinct or this Ripmo assuming I could get the weight on the Ripmo below 28 lbs including pedals...

    • @automotivedistributors9708
      @automotivedistributors9708 6 лет назад +1

      MTB yumyum now that’s a perfect answer to my question! It does seem like the Ripmo can cover the most of Trail Riding to Harder Enduro shreds and could be he one and only bike...especially for a rider mostly on trail rides. I may buy one and keep my plus tire hardtail Cannondale for winter and efficiency rides.
      Thanks again for your thoughts man and always the first impression videos. I wish my Trail System in NJ has the same elevation you have there...looks like a ton of fun out there.

    Hey YumYum, I just got done demoing the Ripmo, HD4, and Hightower LT back to back up at Biker's Edge in Kaysville. Super cool shop. Anyway, I was surprised to discover that the Ripmo climbs a little worse than the LT. Is that consistent with your experience? The Ripmo I demoed had an X2 shock where the LT had a DPX2. I wonder if that could explain the difference? Or perhaps, the tires, like you say? I think I preferred just about everything else on the Ripmo.

    My one hesitation on Ibis is this Ripmo ran small last year.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  4 года назад +2

      Hightower feels bottomless in the chunder and more stable and composed. That said, the Ripmo is good enough on all the rowdy trails here in Utah and climbs much better and overall just feels more like a lively and balanced trail bike. The HT sort of just feels meh everywhere other than bombing down chunky trails in a sort of straight line.. the Tallboy is the better trail bike in the Santa Cruz lineup but I still wouldnt take the Tallboy over the Ripmo.... good luck!

      cool. Would really love to get your impressions on comparing the Instinct, Instinct BC Edition, and the RipMo. Demoed the Hightower and Hightower LT and the Instinct. On Steep climbing switchbacks, the Hightowers feel floaty in the front end. Had to use a lot of upper body strength and body manipulation to keep the front wheel functional on those types of climbs. Where the Instinct's front wheel felt planted.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад +1

      William Henry, yeah, the Instinct is the best climber in the bike you've mentioned. The Ripmo climbs a little better than the HTLT and the BC Edition is maybe not quite as efficient as the Ripmo but close. The Instinct feels smaller and the BC Edition feels bigger than either the HTLT or the Ripmo... good luck on your search!

    Thanks for the Video. I'm riding a Ripley LS with 2.5 DHF and 2.4 DHR and I totally get what you're saying about the weight on the climbs. Back to back with a buddies HD4....the HD4 felt noticeably snappier on the punchy climbs. But do those large wheels roll fast on the downs! I need a longer travel bike; HD4 and keep the Ripley? Or go for a Ripmo?? Really would need the Ripmo to take drops if it was going to be my only bike. HAve a HArdtail for those XC days.

    Love your vids m8, thanks for the audio pauses, my kids like to watch your vids too. I’ve got a sb4.5 that I’ve been spec’ing aggressively and I’m going to switch it to more light, and have been going to pull the trigger on a sb5.5... how would you compare the ripmo and 5.5, because getting a test bike is impossible and I’m stretching the marriage limits even looking at a 2nd bike

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад

      Dude, that's awesome. Always love to hear people watch the channel with their kids! I try to keep it clean just in case ;)
      First of all, the SB4.5 is hands down one of the most capable bikes on the planet! My Rocky Mountain Instinct is another bike that I feel as strongly about. Light weight and can go anywhere and still climb like a beast! So building yours of light weight will be a machine. A longer travel bike would be a lot of fun to pair up with the SB4.5. You might be a Yeti fan boy so sorry to say this to you but, the SB5.5 left a lot to be desired in my honestly opinion. It's a great bike and I'm sure you'd be happy but theres better out there if your interested?!
      The Rocky Mountain Instinct BC Edition, Orbea Rallon, Evil The Wreckoning, Ibis Ripmo and Hightower LT all come to mind with the first 3 feeling bigger than the Ripmo and HTLT. Any of these would give you a very different experience than the SB4.5 and I think that's what owning two bikes is all about.... creating to very different and very fun experiences!
      The Ripmo is much more lively and playful compared to the SB5.5. The SB5.5 feels like a really very big bike ready to smash all that gets in it's way. The Ripmo is very composed as speed but still feels light on it feel and quick for a long travel 29er. The Ripmo is the more versatile bike and the SB5.5 is ready for the gates of hell... they really are very different bike despite the numbers looking so similar!
      Good luck and thanks for sharing!

    Jason!!! You're killing me man!!
    Let me start by saying that I love your reviews. Have watched most of them multiple times. Your trails look so sick(a bit scary at times) and you and your crew ride them with such confidence,enthusiasm, style and (seemingly) ease...
    So...Last year, you sold me on the Santa Cruz 5010,though I haven't yet demo'd or ridden one.
    Last week, you totally sold me on the Rocky Mountain Instinct(non BC).
    And as I was wondering when you were gonna get your hands on the Ripmo(I've been watching Jeff K-W killing it on one of late), here you go again, selling me on another bike!!
    I'm on a 2016 Giant Trance 1 at the moment and thinking about a C frame upgrade at some point.(the bike is so well spec'd and still in great shape)
    So which one is it?? RM Instinct? Ibis Ripmo? SC 5010(27.5)??
    Really enjoy your work/play.
    Thanks again Jason!

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад

      haha, that's awesome, thanks! First consider the type of riding you do most often and what you hope to get out of your riding/bike?! For me, the Rocky Mountain Instinct is just about the perfect bike! If I could only have one, that would most likely be the bike! The same might be true with the Ripmo but as is, it's just too heavy. Ive got my Instinct down to 26 lbs 6 oz including pedals!!! If I could get the Ripmo below 27 lbs 8 oz with pedals I think that would be a pretty incredible bike for just about everything! I loved the 5010 and to this day it's one of the most fun bikes I've ever ridden but it's not as fast as a 29er and gets overwhelmed on the longer faster chunky descents. My choice would be between the Yeti SB4.5, RM Instinct, Ibis Ripmo or Ripley, and the Pivot Switchblade! Of course, all depending on what type of riding you're looking to do most of the time!

    Hi, I was riding ripmo demo (GX spec) last weekend. It impressed me a lot. I had a similar sensation of confidence as you - like I was a better rider. And tons of grip. But the biggest surpise was how it climbed. I think lot better than my HD3. I am also waiting an opportunity to demo HD4 because I want to change my HD3 for something longer. I am 6.1 feet and I have L which is way to short for me. Knowing that you have HD4 - how would you compare it with Ripmo? I am not compeeting in any Enduro races. I am looking for a bike that gives me fun and confidence in rough and steep descents, jumps and nice behaviour in berms. Climbing is not my 1st prio but I really like how my HD3 does here. I mostly use my bike on enduro trails and some bike parks but DH bike is not an option for me.

I.e. I demo'ed the HD4 and would definitely put lighter wheels on it, or the Intense Sniper was nice but had a center of gravity too far forward that made it feel like I was going over the bars every time I went off a jump. Great review JasonI'm between this and the c70How are you finding the noise and chain slap on the rocky?I'm on Tb3 which I love but it's not the lightest. It's about 27.5lbs and it looks that I could upgrade the big hitting capability without much of a hit to climbing or playfulness by going rmc70 or a ripmo light buildThanks!

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад

      My Instinct weighs 26 lbs 6 oz with pedals and I'm loving this bike! Yeah, chain slap is a bit annoying on this bike and the hard rubber chain guard is either to plasticy or something so it make a bit of noise... Not the end of the world but I'd like to find a fix for it. Any bike will have some sort of issue..... if this is it, I can deal with it!
      The Ripmo for sure feels like a bigger bike than the Instinct.

    I demoed the ripmo and the switchblade back to back at outerbike , they felt very similar. The ripmo felt a bit bigger. I also own an hd4, and I think the ripmo is definitely more mojo then ripley. The ripmo climbs better than the hd4, but I don't think i'd want to do laps on it at the bike park. Do you feel that this bike was more similar to the HTLT or pivot switchblade?

    Ripmo vs. Ripley LS.
    How do they compare? What is the biggest difference?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад

      They totally different bikes in my opinion. The Ripley climbs a lot better, feels more "race bike" than the Ripmo. The Ripmo feels like a much more capable and bigger bike. More stable and composed at higher speeds and more front end traction. The Ripley feels like a really planted xc/trail bike and the Ripmo more wants to party and get rowdy! Hope that helps!

    • @christianholmstedt8770
      @christianholmstedt8770 6 лет назад

      Thank you. That's what I wanted to hear actually. I just built up a Ripley LS and it's what I wanted form a new bike. A more stable pedaling platform with more of an XC feel to it but with just a bit longer travel.

      Very similar the the LT in overall ability... the Ripley climbs much better... I'd like to try the Ripmo again with lighter weight tires though...

    Another great vid.
    Can I ask what your settings are when you ride a Fox 36. I can’t find a happy spot with mine, I also weigh 145.
    Thx

      This was one of the reason why I went with the Rocky Mountain Instinct. For what ever reason, the 34 just feels better to me... the 36 is harsh off the top and I've struggled to get my HD4 just right... it's the RC2 and it has been a lot of work to get just right..

      Yes I have the RC2 as well.
      I’m running 55psi and two tokens. It’s okay...not grrat

      I've played around in the 55-60 psi and just this week I'm planning on putting in another volume spacer and dropping lower psi... crazy but I want the top to feel better and still get full travel..
      Oddly enough on a Pike I use only one volume spacer and up the psi.... you'd think with all the different bikes I set up I'd be a lot better at getting these bikes dialed.... haha

    Hey, thanks for posting. Currently looking at this and the Hightower (non-LT). Would you mind commenting on which climbs better?

      Ripmo climbs significantly better than the Hightower

    Would you say the cockpit felt slightly small? Would you have considered uprising to gain more reach?

    Such a clean bike! How does it compare to something like a yeti sb4.5?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад +3

      Ripmo is more stable and composed on the descent. Turn in is better on the Ripmo and will more traction. SB4.5 climbs better and feels more nimble. They're really not in the same category though... sb4.5 is more like the ripley.

    Would you prefer this over the hd4 is the real question.

    Did you end up going to Outerbike? I ended up having to bail on it and transfer to the Crested Butte event.
    I'm wondering if you got any footage/opinions on the Transition Scout or Norco Sight.
