I ordered the SB130 and have been riding the demo bike while I wait for mine. I currently have the SB5 (27.5) and love it. The SB130 is chance for me to step into a more endure bike as my son pushes me that way. After about 60 miles on the bike I noticed: 1.) It climbs noticeably better - mostly I can stand on the pedals during a steep climb and maintain traction the way the SB5 cannot. 2.) The SB130 is way more stable on rough, rocky and chunky terrain than anything I've ever ridden - it is insane to me 3.) The SB130 is noticeably less playful than the SB5, but I didn't buy it to replace the SB5. 4.) I do endurance mountain bike races - this bike sucks for 'hike a bike'. There is no where to comfortably grasp the bike to lift. During a race (even shorter races) there are times you need to pick up your bike quickly and haul ass - it is strangely awkward to pick up this bike. This bike is easily beyond my skill level, so I will spend the next year+ trying to catch up to it.
Excellent review again. That might just be the ideal Yeti for G.J and Moab trails. I tried out the lunch loops, ( free lunch and holy cross ) few weekends ago, 130 would be great fit. Looking forward to spending more weekends riding your home trails this winter.
For sure! I kind of think of it this way, the SB130 might be the better bike for me in GJ, but if I was somebody like Tagg Along MTB, without hesitation SB150. I hoping our at least one of trail systems will survive the winter, but I think the snow is going to get em quick. Thanks ORR!

Ed Erler I think the main difference was the float x2 like you said. There are some adjustable mount water bottle cages rather than fixed location. I think that’s our solution. But that spot was inspired by you lol!

I have a 2018 Yeti SB5 and love it! Sounds like the 130 is a SB5 with 29” wheels. Good to see a positive review since I was between the SB5 and SB6 at the time. For most trails here an SB6 was overkill. 🤙
You basically nailed it. The 130=SB5 29er and 150=SB5 29er. I'm hoping the new features trickle into the 27.5" bike but until then! I personally ride an SB6, I love it, but I think I would have "more fun" on a 5, but I think the 5 requires really good riding to make it sing! Come to think of it, I got a lot better at mountain biking since owning the 6. Go Figure. Thanks Mark Jones!
just put some money down on the 130!! I'm goin with the Grip @ 160 fork on it, so we'll see how it goes..demo'd it without the 160 fork a couple weeks ago and really noticed the steep STA, it kept the front wheel down and required a lot less energy to pedal!!
I loved these 2 reviews. I know you partner with ruby canyon, but any chance you could do a Pivot Firebird 29” on the same “Enduro” test course. Would be cool for the comparison to the Yeti SB150.
Thanks a ton Aaron! I would love to give the Firebird 29er a look, but my Outdoor Gold Enduro maybe lost Free Lunch and Pucker Up to snow/ice, so I would have to hold that until spring unless conditions change. My boys at Over the Edge in Fruita would have to set up with that one!

RC great review. I liked the 150 review also. Sitting here in Salt Lake with a huge dilemma. I am getting a new bike soon. Rode the 130 and absolutely loved it. However, I’m a bigger rider at 230 ready to ride and I bottomed out the 130 on some pretty easy trails. I don’t know that I am going to be able to demo a 150 before I really want to pull the trigger on new bike day. Is the 150 way overkill? I know individual experiences may vary. Just looking for an opinion from someone who rode both pretty hard.
Very good comment Oldman_MTB! My opinion keeps changing with every ride. Me personally I liked the 150 more than the 130 but for ME, I would probably go with the 130. NOW, I've really given some second thoughts to my 150 statements about it being "too much bike". I don't think thats the case anymore, that's a bike that has a "limitless" ceiling and you can really grow into the frame. At 230, if I was you, YOU SHOULD GO with the 150, you get the best of both worlds and I feel the 150 would be very natural to you and its a super fun bike!

@@flow2tech Yes! More volume spacers and adjusting the compression setting will absolutely give you a more bottomless feel. I personally prefer the DPX2 considering its a lot cheaper to get serviced......ALOT
Dude all three new SB100s were so much fun, each had a different flavor. My favorite by a hair might be the 100 though. It did work on Moore Fun! Thanks Nat!

This would be an EXCELLENT challenge for the Sensor! People want to see great bikes ride the gnar, BUT a "budget" bike in this environment is what everyone wants to see!
Awesome job man, that geo and suspension size is about perfect for me. My 140 dpx2 and 160 fit 4 with 27.5 fit the bill for me. Any bigger and it murders my slow tech.
Great review and awesome riding! That bike seems like it would be a perfect all-rounder but think it would be wasted on me and my skillset. I'd love to ride those trails but most of them are above my pay grade. LOL Shhh, don't tell @taggalongMTB that his Alchemy is the old Yeti ASR or that's what I was told by a local shop here.
The SMAZ! Thanks Steve! I think all bikes are wasted on both our skill sets lol! I heard the story on Alchemy was its an ex-yeti engineer who left and began to make similar builds.
I bought a 130 from Ryan at Ruby Canyon and absolutely love it! I've never been on a better climbing bike. The choppier and more technical the climb, the better the bike performs. Point the bike down, and it eats everything in Grand Junction! Sure, bigger bikes would be better on some of the larger drops, but I highly doubt anything with more suspension climbs remotely like this bike. I haven't ridden anything that comes close to the 130 for all an all round bike for GJ's varied terrain (and I demo'd quite a few bikes this summer/fall). It should be noted I like a bike that excels more at climbing than 6 foot drops.
Hell yeah, I’m a big fan, the climbing is A+, but I was definitely drawing a lot of pedal strikes, I think my mind was biased from climbing on the 150 which has a higher bottom bracket height, so I felt it would take a moment to get used to the 130. Either way it has a ton of burst! Perfect bike for riding the Valley! Thanks Marc!
@@OutdoorGold Interesting, I've had the bike for a couple months and I'm sure I've had a few pedal strikes, but certainly nothing more than normal for me in GJ. I'm sure a lot has to do with what bike you're used to and your riding style. I know on my fat bike I'm constantly striking the pedals ... because the bike is just that much wider and has a lower BB too. Luckily I haven't needed to resort to the fattie yet this year!
Definitely agree! Fruita/GJ is pedal strike city anyway lol! Might need to get some air in the tires for the fatty, looks like snow and cold this year!

Hi guys, I'm thinking seriously about the yeti SB 130 from frame only custom build !! Couple of questions will getting a 160 fork be fine with the 130 out back will it effect the climbing ? Compared with the standard 130 / 150 ? & Can you run the Assaggi in a 2.4 being slightly different profile than the DHr 2 ? As I live in North yorkshire UK & can be fairly wet at times !! But I tend to ride in fairly well drained areas ! As always many thanks for your help ! I'm having to decide between the 130 & 150 for my one bike ; we have gisburn & stainburn trail / bike parkish centres around us & I do a lot of natural trails very close by lots of roots & rocks & often muddy ! Once again love to hear your thoughts re; SB 130 & putting a 160 fork upfront ! I guess it would add stability ! Will it effect the climbing prowess !!! Regards Drew.
1) a larger fork will marginally effect the climbing for the worse IMO, but emphasis on the MARGINAL part, its simply a trade off 2) You can run the Asseggi, but its mostly a "grip" tire from what I heard, whereas the DHR2 speciallizes in corners and has less rolling resistance. Less rolling resistance usually equals less grip. Most people would run the A up front and the DHR in the rear. Some people find it beneficial to run Front and Rear Dhr's for a really fast ride.
What are the chances of doing a review of the LR SB 130 ? I'm coming off a SB6 with a Push 11/6 coil. What's your opinion of a 130 with the over stroked LR 136, with the 11/6 rear coil and a FOX 36 GRIP 2 160 fork. How will it compare to the 150, will it blow the SB6 away ? I live in BC, I enter in 4-5 Enduro races a year in the Masters +40. I'm struggling with this decision.
I doubt I will be able to get my hands on a 130 LR, though I’ve seen the spec and it looks make the 130 LR more rad. Honestly I’m a huge fan of the 6 but for enduro the 150 is going to give you a higher downhill ceiling vs. even the 130 LR. The 130 is a great bike but from the info I have, perhaps you should try to get a demo on a 150. I’m torn as to which I like more between the 130 and the 6, as far as basic features go, the 130 but I’m also biased for 27.5 and feel the they are close to equal. I like the SB6 more but I could see riding the 130 for an extended period of time could tip the scales.
What are the chances of a sb130 lunch ride review. That might bridge the gap to the 150. That sounds like the sweet spot for your trails. Keeping it lively and fun without sacrificing confidence. The 160mm will help in those big hit situations and when you're riding blind. Would also be a good video to throw on a coil and compare. An sb130 bike park video would also be awesome. I bet a lot of views on that one.

Interesting! That's exactly how I would run the 130, the dpx2 would definitely stay, I think it great and it cost a hell of a lot less to have rebuilt vs. the dpx2!
I think this should come down to budget and specs. If you have the right spec on the Trance, that could be the right choice, but the 130 is going to deliver solid performance.
From my limited knowledge of FS mountain bikes the yeti's are the king of climing. I have yet for anyone to tell me another bike is better at this. If they were similarly priced I'd go with the Yeti.

Great, great review!!! It's such an awesome bike but sadly the shape of the downtube is a huge dealbreaker for me. I guess I would constantly ride in fear to smash the super expensive carbon frame into a rock or something similar. Therefore I wish they wouldn't have gone for the "we have to fit a bottle inside the frame at all costs" approach.

How would you say this rides compared to the sb5.5? I actually chose an sb5.5 over this (price, and no need for a new offset fork), but am curious what people think that have tested both. I also had read that the 130 wasn't the best in chunky terrain....which is what we have here. The shorter stays also weren't the appealing to me. I had a bike with 429mm stays and it just fish tailed around in really lose rocky terrain (both up and down). Glad I went with the 5.5.
Yep, the 130 is going to get bucked around more than the 5.5 with poor line choices. Obviously the 5.5 splits the difference between the 150 and 130. Factor in the current price point of the 5.5, its still a fully capable ride in 2019.
I've been running a ribbon for nearly a year, a review could happen by March since the only thing new I could talk about is about that "long term" aspect.
Wow! Very nice review! I realy like your channel! Have you ever tried the Rocky Mountain Instinct C90 BC Edition 2018-2019? I am currently riding the 2018. But I always had a crush for the Yeti. I feel that my Instinct BC is between the sb130 and the sb150. What do you think? If you should have a single bike between sb130 and sb150, which one would you choose as a polivalent bike? I know that the logical answer is the sb130 but is the compromise in the climb for the sb150 worth its superiority downhill?
I have not ridden the Instinct, though my impression of the Instinct are very good. Everyone I know that runs one loves it. I think the Instinct falls closer to the 130 rather than 150. The 150 is kind of in a league of its own. I like to tell people I like the 150 more than the 130 but would rather have the 130, my statement sits on shaky ground considering I think the 150 is a really sophisticated bike that takes time to get used to. The 150 is really really legit. I don't think you'll compromise with the 150 on the climbs, it climbs really really well and has a higher BB than the 130 with is helpful in many cases. The only obvious weakness is downhill tight trail cornering on the 150. Another thing to consider is the 150 has a thicker carbon layout, so it could be durable than the 130 as well.
@@OutdoorGold I think the 150 is too long for my practice. Already the 130 is longer than my BC Edition ... I roll as much xc with my girlfriend than enduro light, but I like to have a versatile big bike because I'm pretty strong at 5p10, 230lbs ... Is an idea that I'm thinking that the sb100 would be too fragile for me? I jump or drop 3 or 4 feet maximum. The sb 100 is really sexy !!!! lol I think I will not have the choice to try them all.
RC just found your channel. Excellent review with nice details! I have ridden PBR and Joe's ridge and can appreciate your flow comments a lot. I am 6'2 220lbs and noticed the latest Yeti Geom sizing chart widened the ranges for L and XL vs what showed at the time. XL might be better for me as I do like the more "in the bike cockpit feel" as long as it isn't too reached out. I demo'd an SB5.5 L and XL and liked the XL feel better...but I note they changed cockpit so hoping to find a demo on the east coast to try both sizes. Also, I noticed on MTBR that more people are size are running 0.6" volume spacers in SB130 shock. Does your LBS have this as their experience as well.

@@deanherde805 I do prefer the SB6 (thats my personal/primary ride) but only because I prefer 27.5" bikes. Literally, thats it. The SB130 is superior in everyway however, the new bells and whistles, geometry, and suspension design. The SB130 is the future, but I'm hoping all the awesome new features trickle into the 27.5" models for 2019/20
I rode PBR on my hard tail last year. Its not a Yeti but it did good. Yeti is so expensive that most people cant even afford them. I am sure that when I start making my videos companies will be just giving me bikes like they do for you. I don't think I would even take a Yeti if it was free. Yeti is like a bad rash "Once you scratch that itch it just spreads all over". You did a good job with the camera angles this time but you shouldn't talk over the whole thing.

That little trap door is kinda dumb. Getting that dropper housing up towards the seat tube still sucks. Why didnt they run an internal tube up over that bend?
Wow that’s a tough question! The 5.5 is really solid and I still think the previous generation bikes are still great! It’s going to come down to bankroll for me and whether you love the 5.5 or not. If I had the bankroll and the opportunity to swap a 5.5 for a 130, I would, but not because of the 130 is the latest and greatest thing, but for the new features and updated geo in my opinion.

Awesome job man, that geo and suspension size is about perfect for me. My 140 dpx2 and 160 fit 4 with 27.5 fit the bill for me. Any bigger and it murders my slow tech.

Great review and awesome riding! That bike seems like it would be a perfect all-rounder but think it would be wasted on me and my skillset. I'd love to ride those trails but most of them are above my pay grade. LOL Shhh, don't tell @taggalongMTB that his Alchemy is the old Yeti ASR or that's what I was told by a local shop here.

I bought a 130 from Ryan at Ruby Canyon and absolutely love it! I've never been on a better climbing bike. The choppier and more technical the climb, the better the bike performs. Point the bike down, and it eats everything in Grand Junction! Sure, bigger bikes would be better on some of the larger drops, but I highly doubt anything with more suspension climbs remotely like this bike. I haven't ridden anything that comes close to the 130 for all an all round bike for GJ's varied terrain (and I demo'd quite a few bikes this summer/fall). It should be noted I like a bike that excels more at climbing than 6 foot drops.
Hell yeah, I’m a big fan, the climbing is A+, but I was definitely drawing a lot of pedal strikes, I think my mind was biased from climbing on the 150 which has a higher bottom bracket height, so I felt it would take a moment to get used to the 130. Either way it has a ton of burst! Perfect bike for riding the Valley! Thanks Marc!
@@OutdoorGold Interesting, I've had the bike for a couple months and I'm sure I've had a few pedal strikes, but certainly nothing more than normal for me in GJ. I'm sure a lot has to do with what bike you're used to and your riding style. I know on my fat bike I'm constantly striking the pedals ... because the bike is just that much wider and has a lower BB too. Luckily I haven't needed to resort to the fattie yet this year!
Definitely agree! Fruita/GJ is pedal strike city anyway lol! Might need to get some air in the tires for the fatty, looks like snow and cold this year!

Hi guys, I'm thinking seriously about the yeti SB 130 from frame only custom build !!
Couple of questions will getting a 160 fork be fine with the 130 out back will it effect the climbing ? Compared with the standard 130 / 150 ? & Can you run the Assaggi in a 2.4 being slightly different profile than the DHr 2 ? As I live in North yorkshire UK & can be fairly wet at times !!
But I tend to ride in fairly well drained areas !

1) a larger fork will marginally effect the climbing for the worse IMO, but emphasis on the MARGINAL part, its simply a trade off 2) You can run the Asseggi, but its mostly a "grip" tire from what I heard, whereas the DHR2 speciallizes in corners and has less rolling resistance. Less rolling resistance usually equals less grip. Most people would run the A up front and the DHR in the rear. Some people find it beneficial to run Front and Rear Dhr's for a really fast ride.

What are the chances of doing a review of the LR SB 130 ? I'm coming off a SB6 with a Push 11/6 coil. What's your opinion of a 130 with the over stroked LR 136, with the 11/6 rear coil and a FOX 36 GRIP 2 160 fork. How will it compare to the 150, will it blow the SB6 away ? I live in BC, I enter in 4-5 Enduro races a year in the Masters +40. I'm struggling with this decision.
I doubt I will be able to get my hands on a 130 LR, though I’ve seen the spec and it looks make the 130 LR more rad. Honestly I’m a huge fan of the 6 but for enduro the 150 is going to give you a higher downhill ceiling vs. even the 130 LR. The 130 is a great bike but from the info I have, perhaps you should try to get a demo on a 150. I’m torn as to which I like more between the 130 and the 6, as far as basic features go, the 130 but I’m also biased for 27.5 and feel the they are close to equal. I like the SB6 more but I could see riding the 130 for an extended period of time could tip the scales.

What are the chances of a sb130 lunch ride review. That might bridge the gap to the 150. That sounds like the sweet spot for your trails. Keeping it lively and fun without sacrificing confidence. The 160mm will help in those big hit situations and when you're riding blind. Would also be a good video to throw on a coil and compare. An sb130 bike park video would also be awesome. I bet a lot of views on that one.

@@OutdoorGold just pop a 160mm rc2 or grip2 fork to make it LR. Leave the dpx2, its a good shock for the sb130.

I hesite to the SB130 or the Giant Trance Advanced 1 29er...I don't know what to choice :(
I think this should come down to budget and specs. If you have the right spec on the Trance, that could be the right choice, but the 130 is going to deliver solid performance.
From my limited knowledge of FS mountain bikes the yeti's are the king of climing. I have yet for anyone to tell me another bike is better at this. If they were similarly priced I'd go with the Yeti.

Great, great review!!! It's such an awesome bike but sadly the shape of the downtube is a huge dealbreaker for me. I guess I would constantly ride in fear to smash the super expensive carbon frame into a rock or something similar. Therefore I wish they wouldn't have gone for the "we have to fit a bottle inside the frame at all costs" approach.

How would you say this rides compared to the sb5.5? I actually chose an sb5.5 over this (price, and no need for a new offset fork), but am curious what people think that have tested both. I also had read that the 130 wasn't the best in chunky terrain....which is what we have here. The shorter stays also weren't the appealing to me. I had a bike with 429mm stays and it just fish tailed around in really lose rocky terrain (both up and down). Glad I went with the 5.5.
Yep, the 130 is going to get bucked around more than the 5.5 with poor line choices. Obviously the 5.5 splits the difference between the 150 and 130. Factor in the current price point of the 5.5, its still a fully capable ride in 2019.

Wow! Very nice review! I realy like your channel! Have you ever tried the Rocky Mountain Instinct C90 BC Edition 2018-2019? I am currently riding the 2018. But I always had a crush for the Yeti. I feel that my Instinct BC is between the sb130 and the sb150. What do you think? If you should have a single bike between sb130 and sb150, which one would you choose as a polivalent bike? I know that the logical answer is the sb130 but is the compromise in the climb for the sb150 worth its superiority downhill?
I have not ridden the Instinct, though my impression of the Instinct are very good. Everyone I know that runs one loves it. I think the Instinct falls closer to the 130 rather than 150. The 150 is kind of in a league of its own. I like to tell people I like the 150 more than the 130 but would rather have the 130, my statement sits on shaky ground considering I think the 150 is a really sophisticated bike that takes time to get used to. The 150 is really really legit. I don't think you'll compromise with the 150 on the climbs, it climbs really really well and has a higher BB than the 130 with is helpful in many cases. The only obvious weakness is downhill tight trail cornering on the 150. Another thing to consider is the 150 has a thicker carbon layout, so it could be durable than the 130 as well.
@@OutdoorGold I think the 150 is too long for my practice. Already the 130 is longer than my BC Edition ... I roll as much xc with my girlfriend than enduro light, but I like to have a versatile big bike because I'm pretty strong at 5p10, 230lbs ... Is an idea that I'm thinking that the sb100 would be too fragile for me? I jump or drop 3 or 4 feet maximum. The sb 100 is really sexy !!!! lol I think I will not have the choice to try them all.

Yes, I have a similar build at 6'1" 200, the DPX2 can handle it.

RC just found your channel. Excellent review with nice details! I have ridden PBR and Joe's ridge and can appreciate your flow comments a lot. I am 6'2 220lbs and noticed the latest Yeti Geom sizing chart widened the ranges for L and XL vs what showed at the time. XL might be better for me as I do like the more "in the bike cockpit feel" as long as it isn't too reached out. I demo'd an SB5.5 L and XL and liked the XL feel better...but I note they changed cockpit so hoping to find a demo on the east coast to try both sizes.
Also, I noticed on MTBR that more people are size are running 0.6" volume spacers in SB130 shock. Does your LBS have this as their experience as well.

@@deanherde805 I do prefer the SB6 (thats my personal/primary ride) but only because I prefer 27.5" bikes. Literally, thats it. The SB130 is superior in everyway however, the new bells and whistles, geometry, and suspension design. The SB130 is the future, but I'm hoping all the awesome new features trickle into the 27.5" models for 2019/20

I rode PBR on my hard tail last year. Its not a Yeti but it did good. Yeti is so expensive that most people cant even afford them. I am sure that when I start making my videos companies will be just giving me bikes like they do for you. I don't think I would even take a Yeti if it was free. Yeti is like a bad rash "Once you scratch that itch it just spreads all over". You did a good job with the camera angles this time but you shouldn't talk over the whole thing.

Wow that’s a tough question! The 5.5 is really solid and I still think the previous generation bikes are still great! It’s going to come down to bankroll for me and whether you love the 5.5 or not. If I had the bankroll and the opportunity to swap a 5.5 for a 130, I would, but not because of the 130 is the latest and greatest thing, but for the new features and updated geo in my opinion.
