      Another great video. Question, ever think of putting a camera/GoPro facing you on the rear of a biker you're following? Just to give the viewers another angle/view while you're giving your commentary? By the way, I do like the post ride analysis. Great idea.

      I like the new dialogue, especially with the intermittent riding shots. It's kinda cool to see the bike preform on the bigger jumps/drops and chunky sections.

    Rode the 130 and 150 today fully expecting to walk away with the 130. Nope the 150 all the way such a fun bike I layed down my deposit. I knew it was going to be good coming down so I put it through the paces climbing everything I could find and it really impressed me way more then I thought and I still have a smile plastered on my face from the descending wow. I think your review was accurate and well organized great job from Vancouver Island!

    • @morF1ni
      @morF1ni 4 года назад

      hey buddy, I am about to pull the triger on the 150... Would I sacrifice a lot when riding not so steep trails and going up? I hit jumps and drops, steep rock beds....and I thats why I imagine the 150 its better for me (curently on a hightower lt 160 font 150mm rear) but I hesitate con the 130 all rounder claim. But, I don´t clock my climbs, I do clock my downs. I have no shuttles or any park rides, I pedal up for all my downs. I just read from someone saying the 150 rides "dull" in regular trails. I just wanna make the right choice. Thanks buddy

  • @billw_mtb3220
    @billw_mtb3220 6 лет назад +5

    Wow, you can really see how steep and gnarly the trail is from the stationary shots. You buddy Tyler was killing it on that 150!

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah, camera angles never give you the real life view.... that last shot of Tyler coming into the funnel is super steep and loose... would be difficult to walk up...

  • @philmean5603
    @philmean5603 6 лет назад +3

    40 mph!! No wonder you never like any of the bikes I like! :-) Seriously, the commentary after the ride was helpful and added useful information to the overall comparison (much more useful than "feels good" while on the ride). Overall, I think comparisons between bikes are the most useful content of a review. You try to do that where you can, and this head-to-head and after discussion was a great extension of that.
    The comment about choosing depending on the speed of your trails was very helpful and I think spot-on.

    I completely agree on your take on speed and the "size " of the bike. I enjoy big chunk and technical drop at slower speed and small 5-6 foot rolling jumps (think Moab terrain). I went with the Sb130 and have been super happy. The sb150 was more bike than my riding style demands, I felt it was overkill in the amount of travel, if I was more aggressive in speed and rode more park and faster stuff than the sb150 would be a better choice..

    New ending format very useful and entertaining. Can you do a comparison of the sb 100 vs sb 130 or sb 100 vs new santa cruz blur. Keep up the great work.

    • @myideas8548
      @myideas8548 5 лет назад

      If this helps at all: I rode the Blur TR as well as the SB130 on the same trails in Santa Cruz, CA. The Blur is really a full-on XC rig. It handles great. Is stiff as hell and feels unshakable for what it is. After riding the SB130 though, unless you are racing, I see no reason to get something like the Santa Cruz Blur TR. My times were almost identical on the flats and uphills between the bikes and the SB130 had meatier tires.. While the Blur could be hurled downhill at crazy speeds through the chunk, the SB130 was infinitely more capable and frankly just a lot more fun. The perfect trail bike. Super fast up down and all around with a huge margin for error vs the Blur. Unless I lived in the middle of a corn field, I'd get the SB130.

    Yay to post ride de-brief!
    I really love the cross comparison of bikes in other categories. Something a lot of people forget is this, not everyone looking for a bike is set on a specific style/travel, they may be tossing between the two if similar enough in some respects. Exactly like Tyler, where a more experienced rider after more speed downhill over an all day or less experienced rider is something someone can take on board.
    Being a car guy, this bothers me in car comparisons also, always EXACT same category when someone (me haha) might be interested in a slightly different category with the same price point.
    Loved the stationary footage showing you guys pelt down sections, great perspective!

    after watching all your reviews it seems like if you like to push things 150, if you have tamer trails 100, If you want a middle bike go with a Ripmo. And finally if you are loaded go with a 150 and a 100 and put each of them on your 2 Tacoma's. And I do like the final format of you both talking. Now go get a Offering to test!

    For me I feel which is better is entirely dependent on how many bikes you can afford/want to own. If you can afford two, then get the SB150 for bigger, faster, more technical stuff, and the SB115 for everything else.
    If you only want one bike, however, I think the SB130 would be a perfect only bike for most people; it can handle almost everything the 150 can, while handling climbs and switchbacks closer to the 115. Of course, if you regularly ride bike parks and/or very technical trails then you might be better off with the SB150.

    Excellent video as always Jason. One thing i can't understand is why yeti hasn't grasped the fact that 2.5- 2.6 wide tyres are becoming the norm on 29er bikes. Both the 130 and 150 have maximum 2.3 width on the rear! My 2019 stuntjumper and my 2017 trek slash easily has clearance for 2.6 tyres on the rear, which btw gives a shit load more grip in a typical uk wet winter.

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah, interesting isn't it. Yeti is headquartered in Colorado with very similar terrain and weather as Utah. I mention this because I prefer the 2.3 tires over the 2.5-2.6 tires for my terrain. I find it to have similar grip, more protection and faster rolling. Still, that doesn't completely answer the question why they spec their bikes with 2.3 in the rear. I wasn't aware there wasn't clearance for a slightly wider tire though... interesting.

    Good choice! If I had to only have one bike, it would be the higher travel Plow Bike. These days the plow bike climb so good, you do not lose much time going up, maybe lose 1 minute at most on a 40 minute climb, which if you are not racing, is no big deal. However, the higher travel plow bike more than makes up for the time in Fun and Safety.

      @@Scott_Bishell from what i understand the 130. however i upgraded mine to the top end fox forks (170mm) and the dpx2 (150mm). been the best decision ive made.

    Good review. For this type of terrain i think the ripmo hits the sweetspot. The sb150 is a great smasher for sure where as you need to pick better lines on the sb130 but will be rewarded with more fun on slower and less demanding trails. The sb150 wouldn't be something i would take on an epic or if youre riding with some xc friends unless you're a beast. If you're riding very high speed trails and do a lot of lift service, the sb150 would be a no brainer. For another pov of the sb130 on trails that i like, check out outdoor gold's most recent review. Its a good sample of what the sb130 is capable of.
    Enjoy the post ride review with Tyler. I somehow feel he wanted the sb130 and was on the edge. He might have been happier with a sb130 lunch ride. He seems to like to pop off everything and the dpx2 is definitely more lively and poppy.

    Dopest Bike review yet!! Haha love the comparison and honesty about riding style and what your looking to really get out of each bike! Maybe the Guy who really really wants the 130 over the 150 should consider shock upgrade to coil or X2 & the Grip2 Cartridge Swap~ Great Vid!

      Yeah, the G2 fork would likely make all the difference on that 130 for dudes who really want to get more out of the 130 without going all the way to the sb150.

    I enjoyed watching this nearly 3-yr old video and I'm glad you're leaving them up online. Watching this begs the question, have any bikes come on the market which can do both of what these two did so well, both climb and descend as well as both of these?

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад +1

      Yeah, the G2 fork is well worth it even if you went for the sb130. GX drive trail is awesome stuff and I'd be happy with it if I had other financial priorities or if I were on a budget. I like lighter weight bikes so I always opt for the x01 or xx1. But the GX is good stuff too.... just a bit heavier and maybe the cassette will wear out quicker. Good luck!

    I think a looooot of this review ends up coming down to the fact that the SB150 is using Grip2 and Float x2 and the 130 is running dpx2 and Fit4. Would be curious to see what they both felt like with the same suspension, because the 150 setup will make any bike feel like a godlike charger DH.

    @MTB good video. The format is cool with the two of you (or two people in general). Doing a pros and cons for each of you would add perspective, but it’s also a good change cool as it stands.
    As for bikes, I’m looking for single bike that is a great climber, with a handling second. The Ibis Ripley, Hightower, and now the SB100 are on my list. Is it worth considering the SB130 or Ripmo?

    Best review yet! I live in St. G and own a 5.5 right now which I love. I am curious how tht 150 climbs compared to the 5.5. I feel the 5.5 I can take out all day, and wondering if I would lose that in the 150. What are your thoughts? Thanks

    • @mtbyumyum
      @mtbyumyum  6 лет назад

      Tyler has two bikes, the sb150 and an Intense Sniper Trail. I mention this because if he could only have one bike he'd pick the sb150 again... not sure I would go that direction but he likes to smash stuff. It's been a bit from the time I last rode the sb5.5 so I hesitate to comment on the all day ability between the two bikes.... I loved the sb150 though! Good luck!

    The SB150 climbed way better than I expected. Looking forward to a SB130 demo. IDK if I had an off day when I demoed the switchblade but I felt like I was climbing better on the SB150 and definitely was superior downhill. You said the Pivot climbs better, but is it night and day better or they pretty similar? Im sure I just had an off day.
