The caster actually needs to have its own caster angle from the base so that it is tipped and returns to the centre. It would allow the wheel to still turn but it would need to slightly tip the whole assembly as the caster angle gets shallower but would be more stable than even the longer wheelbase. You can also shorten the "fin"

Free suggestion: Inside the body of the main printed component add a hole and indent to allow the correct Hex key to be stored with a friction fit. This allows the user to have the correct tool on hand to remove and reattach the stand when travelling.
In other words, Integrated storage location for required tool.
    Description of the storage:
A 10mm hole (or whatever the head is on the bumper screws) oriented exactly like the decorative strength holes, full length through entire frame.
On either end of the hole have a channel for the right angle of the Hex tool (allen key) to press fit into.
Along the channel include a oval depression to allow thumb and forefinger to grab and remove the press fit Hex tool.

As someone that brings products to market (Specifically injection molded accessory for products). You just saved yourself from a lot of headaches. The reason these bigger creators are able to make it seem easier is because they have a team that can help them, which costs a lot of money. It's all about economies of scale for that. If you have 10 million+ subscribers and can afford to shell out $10,000 - $50,000 a month and the market is big enough for the product then I would say go for it, but there's more factors to consider when the market size isn't huge and you don't have the capital to hire people that are good at the things you are not. Keep creating! 🥂

    Some benefits:
    1. Your hand is in a more comfortable angle.
    2. The applyed thrust forward does not want to tip the board, even if you would start to run or step back in an instant ('Oh, I forgot something back there')
    3. You would not have to extend your arm forward like now but keep it at a convenient location beside your body.
    4. The steering would be a lot easier, intuitive.

Personally I wouldn't drag around a one wheel in one hand and also move a trolley or carry a shopping basket in the other hand. 12:25 FYII you can put threads on models at least in Fusion 360, and all my uses of threads have always worked wonderfully. You'd just need to figure out which threads you'd need to use, then yu wouldn't need to blast it with a torch, which some people might not have. Without the print having tthreads, twisting the bolt into the print would alson work better then pushing, as pushing.... pushes some of the material out of the way.

Props for giving away the idea. In a better world this is how all inventions would be released.
If you want to balance it without massive trial and error, you need to find the centre of mass (CoM). The simplest way to to this is to balance it, which you can probably do to find its front-to-back position. Side-to-side doesn't matter for the balance you want, but it's the top-to-bottom position that needs work.
The way to do this is to hang it from one end with a thin rope, then hang a plumb line (just a string with a weight on one end) beside it. Line up a camera so both strings/ropes are lined up, and the plumb line in the image will pass directly in front of the CoM.
Also you could just stand it up on its end and feel when it's balanced, then take a photo from the side with a plumb line in the shot. Or you could just guess the CoM is in the middle of the wheel, which seems reasonable actually since the bulk of the board is centred around that wheel.
If you know where the front-to-back CoM is, you can intersect those lines for the actual CoM, then import that position into your 3D modelling program and just line up the design so it'll work first time.

but honestly, i would never use it. even if im just riding to the store for a couple groceries, i'll be riding aggressively, and jumping off curbs and stairs... i couldn't see myself putting this on before going out. plus, it just looks super goofy... lol. i just throw my wheel in the cart that i would already be using anyway, or just go to the customer service desk and tell them "hey im going to leave this behind the counter so i don't have to carry it, i'll bew back in 5 minutes" "ok no problem! :)"
i have never really seen this as an issue, personally. it is a very creative idea though, and it made for some good videos!

  • @npc-drew
    @npc-drew Месяц назад

I think you can do it all and come on top. Open source it + no patents, and use 3D printing farm to sell it to those who don't have the time, expertise, or 3D printer. If OneWheel, or another company copies your product and decide to not give you a share, then you still don't lose, because you set your mind on the beginning to focus on giving back to the community, whether the product comes from you, or at a cheaper cost without you benefiting, still the community wins, but in this age where a relationship with the community is important, a company can lose more if they don't bring you in, as it'd be bad optics for them. So once again, you can do it all and everyone wins. Best of luck, this is a dope product.

Huh, I look at this 3d printed trolley and the first thing that comes to mind for solving this is designing a metal bracket that you can mount a skateboard truck to it, since I have some sitting around. You can get a low tier set of 2 trucks and 4 wheels for $20. Then all you need is $5 worth of 3"x2" 3/16" angle steel, drill two holes on the bottom for mounting to the board and 4 holes for mounting the truck. Weld a nut at an angle to put a nylon bolt as the standing leg so it doesn't scratch the floor in stores or a Steel bolt with a plastic slider glued to the head. That basically gets you to your version 11. I could make it with just the stuff sitting around my garage. Definitely feels like a surroundings determining your ideas for something situation.
