Still think your videos are some of the best for cycling on RUclips!
Thanks Bro. Means a lot!
Completely agree! I wish I had more time to make better videos like this... pov provides me the ability to make videos but beyond that it just takes up to much time with any additional production.
@@mtbyumyum Please don't change your formula. In the end what matters is the information and your reviews are some of the most insightful out there!
I like the start of the video representing Yeti Cycles and YETI coolers lol!
I rode the Santa Cruz tall boy 2020 , and I was blowing away , I do have a yeti 4.4c I still love it 😍 happy new year 2020
Yup still have the 4.5. Check out my old bike day video. I'm patiently waiting for a true replacement ;)
I have that shock on my bike. It's really tricky to dial in. I think 130 is the sweet spot for trail riding.
Adding the spacer made a big difference. Yeah I'd imagine this hits squarely with what most trail riders are looking for right now.
I love yeti but just can’t see me spending 7500 for a middle spec turq I got my 2018 sb6 turq for a great deal about 2500 off in like new condition that’s the only way to go great quality review on the sb 130 non the less looked fast on those trails 🤘🏼
I hear ya. New Yeti's aren't the best values, but those who are patient....
I just scored this frame for on a bit of a discount for first responders... Swapped all my parts over from a fuel ex.. Only needed the headset and bb... Into it for under 5k cad.. Fork offset is still 51 vs 44 but I don't notice that 7mm diff.. Awesome bike.. Frame only is the only way for me nowadays.
@@flow2tech mind sharing source of first responder discount dealer? I'd appreciate it.
Very good, honest review! I ride the SB5.5 and have been very happy with it, except for the lack of a water bottle cage! Thanks for sharing!
I've learned to live without one but if I could wave a magic wand....
As always great vid brother. Love how you tested diff wheel sets and went through the trouble of using a vol spacer. Well put together.
Thanks Brother. Congrats on your new steed and looking forward to that video!
Thats the best bike Ive ever demoed. It felt legues beyond the giant reign, devincies and other ive tried. I think it desserves the superbike name.
Glad you enjoyed it. Now if I can only afford one, lol
About the water bottle I would recommend the camelback mule to EVERYBODY!. It can hold 3 liters so alot more than a water bottle and as well as some small additional tools, protein bars, etc. Over-all you can find it on sale for about $50.
Good content though!
I use a evoc hip pack and love it!
Loved the quality of this video. Subbed. Seriously considering this bike.
Welcome aboard. Glad to have ya.
just stumbled across your channel and I have to say I like it way more than the other big guys on yt
Wow thanks!
Great vid and review. Glad your back in it Savant.
Thanks Dan
Just so you know, WT tires are designed for 30-35 ID rims.
Yup at 2.4 I can get away with it with no perceivable side effects
Great review and it was cool that you were able to switch out your wheelset and have enough time in to dial the suspension in better.
Yeah those made a huge improvement!
Probably only need a couple thousand in upgrades to make it "perfect".
Custom build is the way to go
Well done man. Considering replacing my SB5 with this one. Especially if those wheels and a spacer in the rear shock made it feel more poppy. I need to demo soon!
I thought this would ride like a 29er version of the SB5 but the geo is more aggressive which you can tell immediately behind the bars
Hello great video! I saw it before I purchased mine. I have that bike in LR version. Now I came back to it because I am thinking of upgrading my Wheelset... Is there really such a big difference? No drawbacks?
Thanks again for such good videos
Dude... GREAT review, as always 👍... It's a bummer that for over $7k, it doesn't come with carbon (or lighter alloy) wheels 🤷♂️
Thanks Sheyn. Completely agree. Yeti wants $1000 more for the race spec which has the lighter (alloy) wheelset and X01 cassette. Come on!
I agree - I wouldn't be surprised if they start co-branding their own carbon wheels just like they have with handlebars. A bike this expensive needs to come with an elite high-end wheel set.
If I were Yeti's product manager I'd skip the kashima coating, drop down to GX everywhere and include the DT 1501 wheels instead.
@@kevingorzny - it WOULD be rad to see Yeti do wheels like Santa Cruz... China rims, co-branded, with a lifetime warranty 🤷♂️
@@mtbsavant5414 and this is why I do frame only builds..
Will you be doing a SB150 review? Love to hear your thoughts between the 130 and 150....
Yes planning on riding one soon. Stay tuned!
Awesome video!! I've been eagerly anticipating this one. Now just need to save my pennies
More like dimes lol
Thanks for the in-depth review!
Glad you enjoyed. Thanks for dropping the comment
sold. thanks for testing it up~!
Still a great bike.
Nice. Do you own this now? It's crazy how a $7200 bike would come stock with m1700 wheels. Glad you swapped your carbon hoops and re-evaluated. Looks like an awesome ride.
Nope don't own it. I demo'd it from Rhythm for 3 days. Yeah the wheels stuck out like a sore thumb, along with that GX cassette.
Wow.....I demoed the 130 from Rythm Bikes on that exact same trail. And was almost set on buying it until a buddy let me try his Ripmo. The 130 is a badass bike but the Ripmo just felt a little bit better.
Both terrific bikes. It's like choosing between coke and pepsi. Congrats!
Great video and review! Paying 8k for a mountain bike is straight up bad karma.
I bought a motorcycle for 1/4 the price. The industry has gone madd.
Sooooo you didn’t answer the most important question. Are you selling the 4.5?
Thought about it until the property tax bill came. LMAO. I'm a patient man.
That’s why I impound my taxes. I have 8 k invested in my current Yeti. Not ready to do it again, yet.
@@braaap690 I need to impound my bike fund
EXACTLY, me too!
MTB Savant Would be nice if they had a trade up plan. You pay a monthly fee and get a new bike every year.
So question of the day....keep my 5.5 and get SB100 or replace just with SB130...I loved demo on 100 as was more capable than i expected.
2 bikes will cover a larger spectrum IMO. I haven't ridden the 5.5 but I'd imagine it'd be on par with the SB130 in terms of capabilities.
Great video as always. I read a few reviews where riders have said you need to learn how to ride the 130 and 150 due the long reach. Such as shifting hips and weight forward especially when cornering. Do you find the 130 to be less intuitive to cornering if you're not doing this?
Yes that's something I noticed but failed to mention in the video. If you notice at 2:57 in the video I had the front end understeer or wash out on a left hand turn because I didn't have enough of my weight over the bars. I didn't notice this later because I subconsciously corrected as I got used to this bike. Nothing too major but something to call out. There's very little need to shift your weight too far back on these latest slacked out bikes.
Thanks for the video, great content as always. Imin the market for a yeti, and still undecided between a discounted 4.5 or 130. The question that I haven't seen a proper answer for is: how does the 130 compare to the 4.5 re climbing? I was really impressed by the 4.5 when I did a test ride (climbing wise), but didn't have a chance to try the 130 yet. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
They're very different bikes which will become apparent immediately. As you'd expect the 4.5 feels lighter and is more efficient when climbing but that steep seat tube angle on the 130 has spoiled me. Climbing aside the 4.5 overall feels more XCish with it's telepathic steering and sport tuned suspension. The 130 is more relaxed and composed when it gets rough and rowdy. I assumed the 130 would be an easy replacement to the 4., but after riding it one can make the case of keeping both in the stable. They're that different IMO.
@@mtbsavant5414 The 130 as noted by yeti themselves is an actual replacement for the 5.5 but more efficient.. The sb 150 is an entirely new animal.
My thoughts exactly they are definitely two different bikes. Climbing on my SB130 felt sluggish. I’m keeping both my SB 4.5 and SB130
@@trl-100coyote2 do you have carbon hoops on the 130??? I'm going to try and build my 130 on the lighter side and keeping my fork at 140mm...Hoping to keep some climb ability.
Just bought the "cheapest" sb130 (GX Eagle) but haven't ridden yet due to crap trail conditions. Living vicariously through your video. Just wondering...what camera set up are you using?
I'm officially jelly
Sorry, I added a comment on the wrong video, the video switched on me, ha! How did you ultimately like it compared to the 4.5? I have a 4.5 now and love it, but am wondering what my future bike may be. I really like how nimble and playful the 4.5 feels and I would hate to lose that on the 130. The 130 is a bit attractive due to the extra squish, but just curious how you feel about them head to head. Thanks!
The 130 will be a shock to you initially. Has nothing to do with the 130 specifically but more to do with the evolution of bike geometry. These newer bikes have less telepathic steering, are heavier and generally less "playful" than their previous counterparts IMO. The trade off is stability when you're really sending it.
@@mtbsavant5414 thanks for the info!
Great review! Nice job here.
Thanks Tony!
Picked up the TURQ SB 130 today X01. Its a beautiful looking bike. Now i got to
sell a a kidney to pay the bill when it shows up. I’m selling my SB4.5 to offset the cost.
Congrats!
Marcphx so? 6 months have gone by. Do you miss your sb4.5 or is the 130 everything and some? Or both? Lol. Curious.
Awesome review man.
Thanks bud
Debating on this or the Alchemy Arktos ST. Great review
I was going to get a Yeti SB150 and its a great bike, but I went with the Santa Cruz Megatower.
you have used a full of your rear travel on this bike ? just bit of more descending and jumping? I do similar runs and fast down but short ones, climbing is not the issues for me do you think 150 will be better all rounder bike for me? trail/Enduro?
I used almost all of it. I was a little surprised at how quickly it went through it's travel
I haven't ridden the 150 but can't imagine needing more bike than the 130 personally
Are those trails in the hills above Oakland, or maybe near Lake Chabot? Been a long time since I lived in Castro Valley but I still miss the area.
JMP.
Yeti + mx-5 ... Love the combo
How’s the sizing? Did the medium feel bigger than your 4.5? Or should I get a large 🤫
The lower standover and shorter seat tube means we can choose between M or L based on desired reach. The M didn't feel significantly longer in reach than my 4.5 which kind of surprised me but the wheelbase difference is significant. Not sure I'd want a longer wheelbase to keep it agile. Definitely try both sizes if you can.
I'm sized for a Large but after demo went XL.. Large felt small.. I'm 6'2
I demo the SB130, size L. and having owned the SB5.5 size L. I felt right at home on the new size L frame. YMMV.
where are you riding in this video? If I recall we're in the same area. I wan to hit these trails if it ever stops raining!
Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland, CA
Looks like the fastest clip I've seen you run down this trail...
Thanks, was definitely feeling good on it.
What psi did you settle with in your shock? I am having trouble dialing it in and I am the same weight. Thanks.
Around 215psi with a .6 volume spacer was my sweet spot. Make sure the low speed compression is completely backed out.
@@mtbsavant5414 Thanks man! Great review on a great bike!
Great video,, I recently purchased the SB150, with DT Swiss Carbon rims,, XO1 with WTB tires,, size large , it is over 32 pounds with pedals.
My previous bike is a Pivot 429 Trail,, yesterday I improved my downhill times from 5:55 to 5:27 seconds,, which is great,, but my uphill times were 2-3 minutes slower. Did I make a mistake by not getting the SB130?? or do I need both?
Wow! 32 pounds with carbon hoops?! That is outrageous. I demoed the sb150. It felt great going down, but was definitely heavy and sluggish when climbing. The '19 bronson climbed much better IMO. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do some blistering descents on the sb150 which I'm sure is where this bike shines.
Nice dude. Glad you're having a ball on the SB150
I noticed the same but on the SB130. I was much slower than my SB4.5. My biked must not be dialed in correctly. I’m still sored from my ride over the weekend
@@trl-100coyote2 Unless you get stronger on the climbs I don't expect the 130 to climb as easily as the 4.5.
Can u use 170mm fork with this bike? Because ive seen someone with orange fork, and i know 150-160mm fox 36 dont come with orange..
how do u compare this bike to 5.5? If u have 5.5, is it worth it to upgrade to 130?
I would say 160mm for sure and pose the 170mm question to yeti. My guess is it wouldn't be an issue since the seat tube angle is so steep. This would also raise the bottom bracket slightly which isn't a bad thing on this bike on Rocky climbs

Happy TDay y'all
Love the guys over there!
You answered all my questions. I would only wonder what a 140mm fork ride like or is that dumb?
Undecided. I want a sporty trail bike. Demo’d sb5.5 and Didnt like how it climbed and felt sluggish.
I wouldn't underfork this bike because it's going to put your pedals even closer to the ground. I haven't ridden the 5.5 but I'd imagine this bike feels a tad snappier especially with a lighter wheelset. That being said if snappy is what you're looking for an SB100 or 4.5, Pivot trail 429 could be your ticket. All have a shorter wheelbase than the SB130.
Hey bro what trail are you riding? Is it in the east bay? Thanks for the bike shop recomendation
Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland CA. Rhythm will take good care of you
He’s getting a special feeling from that bike
What kit of the sb-130 do you recommend? Is the turq worth it?
its just 250 grams difference. I went with non turq model and invested in suspension. Next season I will replace these heavy wheels with carbon rims and it will be even better :)
Picked up a SB130 2020 from world wide cyclery for the low price of 5750 ✊🏼✊🏼✊🏼
Good review!
Glad you enjoyed it
When riding yeti's do you need to put your weight over the front like most ppl are saying?
I don't really notice this...or I may already be doing this automatically. Can't tell.
Didn't notice this either.
@@mtbsavant5414 do you need to shift bidu weight forward when cornering?
@@vincentday6640 nope
Yetis are just too expensive for what they are and modern trail bikes really should have enough tire clearance for at least 2.5s in the rear.
Agreed the tire clearance is lacking.
MTB Savant is it a deal killer ?
How would you compare it to the Stumpjumper you rode?
I continue to be impressed with the Stumpy. With a Fox 36 I'd put the stumpy right up there in terms of capability. I'd give the slight edge to the 130 on climbing based on its slightly firmer platform under power. That being said the Stumpy is a much better value overall.
MTB Savant makes total sense. Thanks for replying! Looking forward to the next one.
You hit it right on the head. I have a ST comp carbon stumpy 29er with a LT conversion kit. Love the bike, two bikes in one. Great all around bike.
Awesome review, man. Where are these trails?
Joaquin Miller Park in Oakland, CA
Debating on building a 4.5 or 130. Which direction would you go?
Really depends on where and how you ride, as they're very different. 4.5 has more XC flair so it rides stiffer, pedals and steers faster. SB130 is more relaxed and serious going down but a bit more to move around.
@@mtbsavant5414 Right on. I live in SoCal so it's a mix of XC and some DH stuff. Nothing too crazy. I'm riding a 19 Stumpy now but wanted a more efficient when climbing. I swapped the LT to ST so gonna give that a try. If not, I'll probably go the 4.5 build. What front fork are you using for the 4.5?
MTB Savant how would you compare your 4.5 to Ripley LS? I’m debating on these two bikes at the moment.
@@brandondouk just swapped over to a 150mm fox 36 and loving it.
@@brandondouk 2 of my favorite bikes. Had I not found a good deal at the time for my 4.5 I would have been on a Rip. No question
Savant is the sb130 a plush ride. I have the 140 its not a plush ride.
Excellent review, very thoughtful and detailed. Thanks! ps. 100 > 130 ;)
Thanks Jason. Means a lot coming from you.
Frame looks similar to a specialized stump jumper evo
Are those race face chester pedals?
Nice video!
great video as always, not a huge fan of their spec sheet really.
Yeah I'm adding up the prices in my head and looks like you don't get much a break from the complete bike.
$7200? I built my Evil Calling up with all Hope, carbon rims on project 321 hubs, eagle drive train & and a 150mm Pike for a grand or so less.
Yeti doesn't offer much discount on their build kits. Custom and some bargain shopping is the way to go
Good review
