Dry Mix Recipe: Burritos in a Jar
    Ingredients for jar:
    ¾ cup pinto Fast Beans
    ¼ cup rice
    ¼ cup dehydrated onion
    ¼ cup dehydrated bell pepper
    1 tbsp dehydrated Ro-Tel Tomatoes
    1 tbsp taco seasoning
    ½ tsp salt
Stack dry ingredients in a pint jar in any order. Place lid and vacuum seal or use an oxygen absorber.
When ready to serve, you will need:
2 cups liquid beef broth (You could include beef bouillon cubes or 2 tsp beef granules in the jar then simply add 2 cups of water when cooking.)
1 cup canned ground beef (Add beef when cooking the mixture.)
To prepare, dump dry ingredients into a saucepan and add the 2 cups of broth. Simmer on medium heat for about 15 minutes until rice is not quite done. Add the 1 cup of ground beef, cover, and continue to simmer until meat is heated through and rice is done. Serve in warmed tortillas with cheese.

@@villagesteader3552 Rotel tomatoes are diced tomatoes with green chilis in them. They are great for those of us who are (frankly) too wussy for real chilies, lol. Like, if you eat jalapeños, or have ever thought, "This needs more heat!" don't even bother with Rotel. They come in smaller cans than a pint, and are also more expensive than plain diced tomatoes.

Oh I am glad my husband did not see this video. Loving wraps as he does, he would insist on it right now! Yes, cilantro, cheese, and jalapeños inside, then sour cream, avocado or guacamole, black olives, green onions, and salsa will top ours, with probably some shredded lettuce and diced fresh tomatoes. AND…none of those tiny tortillas. We want the large ones like you were using! We also warm up the tortilla on a non-stick skillet for a minute or so. We, being vegans would substitute TVP or soy curls for the meat, then use vegan cheese and sour cream. Same thing, just a wee change out of the ingredients. Another home run here Pam and Jim! Thank you. 👏🏻

@@carolynbradshaw7969 you can dehydrate them. I also make fast (dehydrated) taco seasoned lentils for a quick burger substitute. One of our new favorites is oatmeal sausages so easy and full of flavor. I actually used a sausage recipe and swapped out 4 cups oatmeal and 2 cups water for the 2 pounds of meat. And I added a ¼ cup of oil to give it a bit of moisture.
      Recipe:
      Oat Sausages
      • 2 teaspoons dried parsley
      • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
      • 2 teaspoons sage
      • 1½ teaspoons black pepper
      • 1 teaspoon thyme
      • 1 teaspoon fennel seed, crushed
      • 1 teaspoon paprika
      • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
      • 2 teaspoons salt
      • 1 Tablespoon garlic powder
      • 1 Tablespoon onions powder
      • 4 cups oatmeal (13.5 oz)
      • 2 cups water
      • ¼ cup oil (optional ) 56g or about 2 oz
Mix together and fry. They are a bit dry but they are good. They hold their own even crumbled in a sauce on Spaghetti or in a gravy but do not boil . These make 10 small 3 inch patties (I used a large ice cream scoop and then pressed them a little flat) I make 20 meatballs (using small ice cream scoop) and fry them (light oil or non stick), then finish them for 10 minutes in a covered dry frying pan.
Latest use... Pizza topping. So good.

I'm a year late to comment, but yes, a video demonstrating this process would be wonderful! 😊 I tried fast beans for the first time. I soaked them and slow cooked them (pinto and black beans). I specifically didn't use my instant pot for pressure cooking the beans based on Pam's comment in this video about slow cooking. But, sadly, ALL my beans split when dehydrating them. It is what it is, but they don't look appetizing. And, I know they'll just be mush when I cook them.

What a nifty quick to the table meal! I’ve not ever made “fast beans”, but I will certainly be making them! I’d been canning beans for convenience, but home-canned beans are so mushy. Rather than heating the prepared burritos in a microwave, try popping them in an air fryer @ 350F for 5-8 minutes before plating. The tortilla crisps up, and you will have another texture - the soft interior contents of the burrito, and semi-soft crisp exterior. We enjoy them prepared that way. Please do the Rotel video! I'd also love to see your chili mix. My husband and I used your method for mixed beans and ground beef for taco soup, just need to figure out the spiced tomatoes!

I'd love to see a Rotel dehydration video. I think that is a wonderful idea! Is the camp stove that you put in the description the same stove that you use in your outside canning station?

Great recipe. My only concern is if it’s too salty with the taco seasoning, salt, and beef bouillon. I think I would leave out the salt if I made it myself. Yes I would love to know how you dehydrated your rotes.

Have you considered using freeze dried rice and/or freeze dried ground meat in this meal?

QUESTION: when using your stock of dehydrated ingredients (onions, beans, etc.) and you still have some left, do you re-vacuum seal them again and put back on shelf? This recipe looks delicious,

Yes, I always vacuum seal, either in a smaller jar if I need to store. A little bit of time and electricity saves me wondering when I have so much

I love your comment about the fast beans. Mine get all mushy, even if I only pressure cook them for two minutes! How long do you cook them in the slow cooker? Or on the stove?
