    Heavy peach syrup is the best bet when one has nausea. Had a son on a youth group trip get very ill, they called me and said nothing they tried would stop the throwing up. Told the get a can of peaches in heavy syrup, have him take a teaspoon of the syrup every half hour...works like a charm.

      Another excellent thing for nausea is ginger. Real ginger root …cut coins & boil in fresh water 20 minutes for maximum benefit. Dr Pam has a wonderful video where she made a wonderful ginger-honey syrup. Your peach syrup is interesting! I imagine the sugar might provide some much needed fast acting carbohydrates at a crucial time.

She is very smart, and had a large vocabulary at an early age. She always surprises us with her little quips. We both had a good laughs. As a side note to this, this is my daughter’s first garden, so my granddaughter is very excited about it all. They have four 4’x4’ raised beds, and they are producing like crazy. • @utopicconfections5257

      I would use a substitute equivalent as applesauce in other recipes. I think up to a 1/3 or even 1/2. But start with a recipe that subs oil for applesauce and just use pumpkin. You could freeze extra pumpkin in ice cube trays - I think most are 2 tablespoons (but measure yours) so that makes it easy to preserve and sub.

      @@JanineMJoi Pumpkin Dog Biscuits: 2 eggs, 1/2 cup pumpkin, 2 Tab dry milk, 1/4 tea sea salt 2 1/2 cups brown rice flour, 1 tea dried parsley. The salt, dried milk and parsley are optional. I usually make as directed. I have all things in my pantry. Preheat oven to 350. Whisk eggs, pumpkin to smooth, stir in dry milk, sea salt and parsley. Add brown rice flour gradually to form dry dough. Turn onto lightly floured surface. (I will add a tiny bit of water or a little more pumpkin if too dry) Roll to 1/4 - 1/2 “ thick. You can use shapes or just cut the dough in squares or triangles. Place on cookie sheet (no greasing or paper) Bake for 20 min and turn over, bake another 20 minutes. Remove and let cool. They should be crunchy. Store in zip lock. If you make small cookies, you can freeze them until needed. My oven cooks fast so I don’t leave mine in for the whole time. Each batch makes 75 small or 50 medium biscuits. They are great for most dogs but especially senior or dogs with sensitive stomachs. I will make a double batch, I have two dogs 18 lbs and 28 lbs. I have made these for years. (You can substitute the brown rice flour for white rice or alternate flours other than wheat based) You can still use wheat, I just prefer the rice flour. Good luck. 🐶

    I know you are an academic person who does much research, and that is one of the things I most admire about all that you present on this channel. I wonder if it would be possible for you to help the rest of us clarify some terminology and its implications for our foods. Specifically, could you clarify:
    Genetically modified organism
    Bioengineered engineered ingredients
    Organic
    Pasture raised
    Cage free
    Natural ingredients
    Meat glue
    Sucralose
    I notice these labels on various foods all the time, and wonder what these terms all mean.
    I especially now see “GMO”, “Contains bioengineered ingredients”, and “Sucralose” on ever so many foods now!
    If you could, please help us figure out what these all mean!
    Many thanks for your very valuable expertise for all-around prepping and food storage!

      Sucralose is an artificial sweetener made by adding chlorine to the molecules. Brand name is Splenda. Since it is supposedly cheaper than sugar, a lot of food companies switched to it. I, personally, stay away from it because it tastes terrible ( my opinion ) and cause me to have stomach issues.

      Sucralose, Dextrose, High fructose corn syrup, among many others, are sugars. They are in so many foods it’s insane. Oils like corn oil (gmo corn), canola oil, and others are highly inflammatory. Reading labels is an important thing to do. If an ingredient list is long, I usually avoid the item. So many things the USA uses in foods are banned in other countries. I’ll never understand it. Sticking to whole foods is the healthiest thing you can do for your body.

      GMO is scientifically engineered ingredients. They are designed for climate, disease resistant, etc. Think of it as the exact opposite of heirloom seeds which trace their genetics back to a single plant. Keep in mind that hybrids can come naturally due to cross pollination, not necessarily genetically modified.

    • @cbagot
      @cbagot 10 месяцев назад

      The gmo food is genetically modified so they can spray Round Up (aka glysphosate) on the plants. That chemical causes cancer and there was a huge lawsuit where the chemical company lost the suit, but can still spray the food. Round up kills the weeds but not the plants. The main ingredient in glyphosate is also the main ingredient in Agent Orange. I don’t know what else they modify plants for.

When done, wash it, take all decorations off. I cook mine then can it in chunks. I get a double use out of my pumpkin and it makes so much. I put pumpkin in pasta sauces, soups and anything else.
    Just a spoon or 2, add natural sweetness and all of its goodness.

    1 Duncan Hines Devils Food cake mix, 1 can pumpkin, 1/4 cup water, 1 t. vanilla and a cup or so of chocolate chips. I like to add a few chips to top of batter before I bake too. Bake in preheated 375 oven about 15-17 minutes making 12 muffins. SO good.

    You can make quick and easy muffins by adding a can of pumpkin to a cake mix ( home made of course) and bake. No other ingredients needed. My favorite is chocolate!

    You can actually bake pumpkin seeds and use them as something to munch like popcorn or sunflower seeds when you're watching a show or something, It's great. They really taste good, you know, some people put like salt and stuff like that, aren't some people put like it's some sort of hot peppers or spices, or whatever on them, cinnamon things like that different things. And you can actually put that arm and then bake it into it. And the flavor just comes through with the baking. It's really, really wonderful.

    I'm so excited! I have all of those things in my long term food storage! Although, I'm short on artichoke hearts because I use them up quickly! I love them too! Aldi has them in glass jars in either water or oil. The canned beans there are very reasonably priced. I have even been able to get canned cannellini beans, which I have not found anywhere else. Great video, Pam and Jim!

      Humanity has been genetically engineering crops for several thousand years. If you've ever had cross pollination mishaps in your garden (corn is a prime candidate) then you've experienced genetically engineered food (natural or otherwise) People have a knee jerk reaction to GMO but it's been done since humans first discovered how to grow wheat 🙂

    • @keralee
      @keralee 9 месяцев назад

      @@sjferguson you miss the real points...gmo foods mainly are Not from crossbreeding but from gene splicing which never occurs naturally. Salmon genes do not cross into tomatoes in nature. Besides which most gmo is to make plants tolerate glyphosate...so gmo products are LOADED with this provem carcinogen.

      If you are in the south in warm climate, there areafew varieties of pumpkin hjat do well-Cherokee Tan is one. Also- sweet potatoes are similarly dense in calories and love warm weather. Additionally, winter squash, such as butternut, store well like pumpkins and are nutient dense.

    I can't wait for the oats & pumpkin muffin recipe! I searched online for a good recipe using oats & pumpkin yesterday. I wound up making a pumpkin wacky cake, but it wasn't what I wanted. My pupsters love pumpkin, too, so I usually just give them a spoonful as a treat, so I don't have to worry about any pumpkin going to waste. As soon as it's cooler outside, I will make their dog biscuits with it, too. We go through a ton of oats. I order it by bulk & still purchase it at the grocery store. My chickens & rabbits love it, too. Thanks for the tips! This is a good list! I buy something from it every time I shop. God Bless!

    Nice info Pam and Jim. I have dehydrated all kinds of beans for awhile, along with my store canned beans. I cook my beans with a Nori sheet and some spices in my instant pot. I use Nori because I have hypothyroidism and need the iodine, but mostly it makes the beans taste so good. I just got my order of Peaches from Alida Fruits in Palisades, Co. Beautiful peaches. I will be canning peach salsa tomorrow. 😃
    So many ways to preserve food and so much fun for us. I haven’t checked the Dollar Store, so that will be something I will do. I also have lots of canned pumpkin. Not fifty though! 😃😃 Good job Jim….I just love pumpkin in everything. I had to go back and watch you laugh again Pam….you have such a cute laugh. I hope your enjoying your end of summer days. Time for us to go camping again with the weather getting cooler.
