Always learning here so plenty of questions: Frozen still blanch? To make up carrot cake mix and vac-seal can carrots be added to mix? Learning everyday from your videos!
Depends on how much you're working with. I use a Cosori coffee grinder for small jobs, a NutriNinja for most things, and my low-end Vitamix for large quantities.
I'm note exactly sure what you mean, Linda. Measuring when? For the recipe? I use what measurements are in the recipe and any excess goes into storage jars.
@@ThePurposefulPantry sorry I am not clear. When you log into your journal you measured before you dehydrated and then you measured again after you dehydrated to log into the journal. So you measure all on the tray to see how much you have after!. Not sure this makes sense much sense. May I can watch your more of your videos and figure it out.
No - I measured the amount I measured first. Usually a consistent serving size or weight - and you do it separately on a tray to remeasure once dry - that way you know how much to use at any given time.
I was wondering why when i make home made spices they are clumping in the jar?? I dehydrated tomatoes and peppers then grind them together , but it keeps clumping?? is it possible maybe 1 of the veg were not completely dry?
Because if you are doing anything more than pulsing, you're heating up all the natural sugars and it clumps. But it's also possible that something isn't dry - did you condition your food first to check? And if it's powdering but just clumping, you can spread the powder onto a tray or dish and put it back into the dehydrator to dry.
HELP!! I thawed some jalapeños, deseeded, cut into strips and put them into my dehydrator. After 20 hours, they are leathery and not crisp. What did I do wrong?

Boiling water will cool off quite quickly and won't keep this warm unless you're doing it in a mylar bag. It really is better to keep it over heat or inside something that will help maintain the temp of the water.

Since the cabbage/coleslaw mix and the beef is stored together in the jar - does it work just as well when you put it all together? Because you show doing the beef first, but in the jar it’s all together
Because I was doing it from the individual ingredients to show you can do it either way. Yes - you can just toss the whole jar in, too, or keep beef separated if you prefer. You can do it anyway that works best, but if you do it with all the ingredients, keep a closer eye on the moisture.
just as a thought.....you can add lentils for making up the difference of the meat. I like to go 50/50 when I use ground beef....and it sooo good and good for you and no one complains!!! WIN/WIN, huh!!! lol

Thank you! 😃
I think this would work great for the freeze dryer as well!
Thank you teaching what you know. Better to see it than just read a book.
The Eggroll in a Jar looks delicious and might be something my son would like to take on his hiking trips. Thank you so much!!!

Broccoli slaw from the store is the best! It dehydrates beautifully.

Love that stuff. Hadn't thought to dehydrate the fixings when they are plentiful. thanks.
Right?!!? Acme does Buck-a-Bag every so often and the mix is one of the items. I’ll be buying and dehydrating for sure!

Hello great video , can you tell us how strong the smell of the onions were and love from England ❤
as I mentioned in the video...freezing them helps reduce, but not eliminate the smell. It's not like doing raw, but everyone has their own tolerances.

So true! - well not that you're cheap - but it just makes it easier to stock faster and save money!
You might need to rinse and scrub spuds. They are sprayed with a chemical to prevent the potatoes from sprouting in the store.
I love your dehydrating book. I love using it. Thank you for creating it.

No need to blanch commercially frozen. It will depend on if you blanched first before freezing if you did it at home.
Looks tasty!
I absolutely love love your videos, do you a dehydrating book ? I just ordered your book you have on this video, especially the 200 soups mixed , Th
The book I showed in the video is my book ;)
Great video today
I know you probably don’t buy the big cans of freeze dry products but if you did what ones would you have on your shelves always
I do - invest in proteins
can those vacuum sealed lids be reused
As long as you are gentle with opening them - they can be reused for dry storage, but should not be used for canning.
Great tips. Basicly, this is an unstuffed cabbage roll recipe. Has anyone made it into a stuffed cabbage roll or spring roll?
You should be able to. But it's going to have a little different texture than using fresh.
Luv it!

The Kitool jar sealer - there's a link for it in the description box.
Hi, on your spices, I think you said green powder so is that green bell pepper dehydrated and powdered or did I hear wrong? Thanks
Dark leafy greens.
How do you blanch frozen vegetables prior to dehydrating?
You don't. It's already been done before the freezing process if they are commercially done.

For long-term storage, it is recommended - think of it more like broccoli than lettuce.
I wonder how this would do dehydrating with just boiling water and a long soak?
Boiling water will cool off quite quickly and won't keep this warm unless you're doing it in a mylar bag. It really is better to keep it over heat or inside something that will help maintain the temp of the water.
Why didn't you use air absorbers in your dehydrated food?
Im new to food storing.Just wanted someones opinion on air absorbers for safety 😊
IT's not about safety - it's about longevity of storage, and it's not necessary. But you can use them if you want - it's an added tool, it's not required.
Do you feel it's worth the time and effort to dehydrate soy sauce, lime juice, and Worcester to make powder. Or just buy the powder? Love your shows.
Carol, Rochester Hills
Buy it.
Worcester does not dehydrate due to the tamarind.
I read cautions of dehydrating onions if you have dogs in your house. Is this a valid danger?
Nope. If your dog is overly affected by it, then don't do it, but it's not the same as eating them. It's fine. My vet told me so ;)
