Wish me luck, my first dehydrator load of frozen veggies is running!!! Started pressure canning last year so now it's dehydrating. 75 years old and widowed, I know my frozen foods won't be used up so now I am actively preserving as much as I can. Love your channel, encouragement and soothing manner. Blessings to you and yours ❤
You can do it!
I love to hear when people who are a little further down the road of life are still pursuing new interests and tackling canning and other food preservation techniques. I think you are amazing, and it's fantastic that you are doing these things! 😊
Me too Nancy I'm a tad younger 63 last month...Just got me a Wallaby bag sealer, bags and oxygen absorbers. For beans, rice and flour and sugar. Just ordered me a presto canner next month gonna get a dehydrator. I started prepping in 2019 purchasing can soups, chilli's etc. So if I leave in the Rapture which I have a ticket to go I'll be leaving my aethiest children plenty of food. That's the plan anyways. Love Love God Bless Everyone .God Bless America
@@lildebdoll60
Blessings to you and I also have my boarding pass for the rapture!! I'll be with husband again!!!
@Debbie G, please don't put the O2 absorbers in the sugar or vac seal it, because it has a tendency to turn into a brick when you do that. Storing it tightly sealed in a rodent-proof container should keep it good for a long, long time.
Love frozen to dehydrated! Last round of storms we lost electricity for quite some time. Fortunately most of my food was dehydrated. No lost frozen food. I only have refrigerator freezer space so dehydrated gives me more space and food security!
I’m 60 years old and just learning all these tricks for making my family’s life, especially mine, easier. Keep on spreading the news 🤩🥰🙏🏻
I would love more videos of how to use the dehydrated products. I'm so happy to have found your channel & now I understand why everyone dehydrates the frozen mixed veggies. I was buying Kale powder from Pampered Chef & once I figured out how easy it was to make my own I couldn't believe how much money I had been wasting! I have frozen sliced carrots & frozen mixed veggies going now!
I put them out there ;)
I LOVE dehydrating frozen. It's so convenient and fast. I went to Costco to get a big bag (or two) of frozen mixed veg...and they were revamping their freezer section. No veg. sigh. So I whirled up some fresh veg in the food processor and dehydrated the slurry, instead. Now I have lovely veg powder to add to soups, stews, and breads.
Brilliant!!
I live in a humid place, so I dehydrated my items and keep most stored in one container with a smaller "working container." The working container is the one that gets opened frequently. When it needs to be replenished, I go open the larger container to refill the smaller. I find this protects the integrity better
I live your videos, as they help me to use my foods in new ways. Thanks!
Darcy, if you haven't done so already. You should do a dehydrated food recipe collaboration. Frozen dehydrated veggies really helped me to supplement my pantry. Thank you!
When I was sick last year I craved Cup O’ Noodles. I jazzed it up using my dehydrated (frozen) veggies. Convenient and easy.
Absolutely love dehydrated foods for camping. Hamburger, fast pasta, and seasoning in a pint jar are perfect for camping. Im definitely gonna put together some veggie/hamburger soup as well. April 1st the campgrounds open and I need to get off grid to study for PharmT exam on April 11th. No distractions and no complicated cooking will allow me to focus on final test prep. Yay!
I like that you give all the options and explain the how/why/reasons. It makes this less intimidating.
Excellent video for those who just figured out that they need food up quickly - not in a freezer that may not have electric to it for 3 days. Or even those who need to start from scratch today - Govt asking everyone to store up a months worth of food. Hey we actually eat a lot more than we think we do. And, water - storage says 25 gallons for ONE person for TWO weeks. That includes everything from cooking to bathing. You don't need to buy really expensive stuff in a can. Do it this way.
Thanks Darcy.
You are definitely my dehydrator guru Darcy. I love having dehydrated veggies on my pantry shelves. Thank you for sharing and have a blessed day!
This is such a great idea for campers/hikers who don't want to spend a lot of time with kitchen prep or pay $$$ for chemical-laden pre-made pouch stuffs. Love it! 🙂
I enjoy using my dehydrated supplies. One snow storm this winter I made a hash brown casserole using almost all dehydrated food. It proved to me that it was well worth dehydrating.
@dutchgram3799 do you have a recipe for the hashbrown casserole? I'd like to give it a try
Thanks to you I just started doing this!!! All I can say is THANK YOU Darcy‼️ This is amazing!!! I have mixed organic veggies, broccoli, shredded potatoes, bell pepper and am going to the grocery again today! I LOVE IT‼️
So glad you found it helpful!!!
Before you open the bag, whack it on the counter so the contents break up into the original size.
Thank you so much for making the soup too… that’s what most want to see, “does this really work” 👌🏼👌🏼
I can't do it with everything - but at least I try to show rehydrating so that you can see what it's like after ;)
I make powder out of the pepper blend and my family loves it!
My poor (new) dehydrator! It's seen so many apples and strawberries in it's short time with us that veggies will be a welcomed change. Your videos have motivated the better-half to request EVERYTHING to be dehydrated and more experiments for our household. This one in particular had exclaim "it's soon camping season! we MUST make a few meals!"
I did it! I just upgraded to a Cosori 6 tray, I almost got the 10 tray, but figured if I want more I will buy another 6 tray so I will have 12 in total and I can sit one in the kitchen and one in the pantry👍🏻
Another way you can use dehy veggies is to grind them up to a powder in a coffee bean grinder. Then use "blends" of different veggies for seasoning.
I love dehydrating frozen vegetables. I just made meatloaf last week and added some of them. It came out fantastic. All my vegetables are dehydrated as well as my meats and poultry. No worries if I lose power.
Oh my goodness! I have just finished using my dehydrator for the 2nd time as I am finishing up my 'harvest' (!) here in Australia. I have dehydrated leeks (which I did outside because...boy do they smell!!); zucchini, chillis, and tomatoes. I am so happy with the result but was unsure how to store them, so thank you for this vlog! Now I intend to dehydrate the contents of our favorite winter soups and make some meals-in-a-jar! I am going to look through your content to learn how to dehydrate meat. I love knowing that the nutrients are still in the foods (as opposed to canning them); and I really love how little space they take up so I can have so much more produce! I also appreciate you showing us how to re-hydrate the food! Thanks very much!
I've never dehydrated meat on camera - I don't do it. I prefer to purchase freeze-dried meat because it is more reliably shelf-stable (though I know you may not have that option where you are). Just know that dehydrating meat does not automatically make it shelf-stable (no matter what other people's experiences say), so the best option (though you can make that choice for yourself), is to store dehydrated meats in the freezer until you need them for short-term meals in a jar, projects or hiking/camping trips.
I found using a flour sack towel in my dehydrator helps with absorbing the oils, you will need to go on a low temperature and yes it takes a lil longer but we’ll worth the work!❤❤❤
I add dehydrated vegetables to rice as it is cooking and to meatloaf, meat patties and meatballs. I love seeing your recipes for meals in a jar. I want to make a bunch for a friend who goes on frequent extended camping trips.
Here are a ton of ideas if you need them: www.thepurposefulpantry.com/best-meals-in-a-jar-recipes/
@@ThePurposefulPantry thank you
Ah, camping season. Im so ready and yes, dehydrated food are the way to go. rehydrate and cook. Saves time, space, and cooking fuel. Win, win, win! I even have my home grown spices dehydrated and powdered for the camper. Yum 😋
Don't know about anywhere else but here in the mid east, sales of much of anything is a thing of the past. Even sale flyers have been cut in half and sale items aren't anything useful. Don't get me started on coupons.
Thank you, again !
This is such a great idea, wow! My mind is blown!
Well done video. We love you 😁👍🏻💛
Wish I could come for lunch, looks delicious 🥰❤️
The dried veggies look great! Thanks for sharing the soup recipe :-)
Awesome video once again! 💖 I discovered that some Dollar-25 stores have frozen veggie mixes ($1.25 for 16 oz) like the pepper and onion blend. So far in March, I have not noticed significant frozen food sales in my area, so I wonder if that cycle may be shifting for some stores. At any rate, I have been able to make pretty good side dishes with dehydrated frozen broccoli and dehydrated frozen peas. Once you said (in a previous video), "Think of it like steamed broccoli", that was a game-changer for me. Thanks so much for the soup recipe ~ it's definitely on the list! 😄👍
I think between '2020' and the economy since then, sales that we used to have just aren't there any longer - and we have to shift from that $1 bag of veggies being smaller and a little more 'on sale'.
Looks very yummy thanks for sharing!
You are so awesome giving me so much information and tricks of the trade. Sooo appreciate you.
This was an awesome refresher...I'm re-motivated to get busy!
I really enjoyed your video. I just liked and subscribed and I’m looking forward to binge watching your channel!

You're welcome!
Fabulous video! Everything is in there, well done! Thank you for your videos! Really noce how you give different ways of making a pantry fast. I was thinking of making emergency meals that you can add just water… it’s exactly what I need now. I will look at your other video mentioned. And I will check also your meals recipes. So what ekse to say bit thank you again for taking the time to make such useful videos. So glad to have discovered you, your website and FB page, something you can be proud of… and emwhat a nice legacy for your children. 🥰
I dehydrate my frozen vegitables when I do not use up the year before produce. I love your videos, they are so informative.
Love this
Omg! This video is AWESOME! Thanks so much ❤
Glad you liked it!!
Thank you for this video! Exactly what I needed 👍 I just ordered a new dehydrator. I have an older dehydrator that still works but takes a long time.
I get so excited to see your Saturday videos. I think making (dehydrating) soup should go on my schedule this week. Thank you for sharing all your knowledge. 😊
You are so welcome!
Thank you for sharing all this great information. I am getting a dehydrator very soon. Can’t wait to start.
Best of luck!
Great stuff as always. I vacuum seal if I have more than one jar of something otherwise moisture absorber mostly just in powders. Can't wait to start to save some meals in a jar. Thanks Darcy
Love your videos. You are so informative about what you love and do! Ty for sharing
Thank you so much!
Thank you for all of your helpful information. You save me a lot of time as I build my pantry.
Happy to help!
So helpful and informative! Thank you!
You are so welcome!
Thank you Darcy. I started dehydrating this past year, and your channel has been my go-to for information I need to know to do this properly. This video is a good refresher. Much appreciated!
Diane, what dehydrator did you choose, Mona M.
@@monamorgan8614 Hi Mona. I bought a Cosori, and I am very pleased with it. I bought additional mesh liners to put on the racks and then the silicone (?) trays for drying eggs and such. I do recommend the Cosori.
Great video! Thank you for sharing your experience. ❤😊
You are so welcome!
Love the idea of instant soup. It would be great for a quick lunch on busy days. Thank you, Darcy!
You are so welcome!
Great video is always! I've commented on other videos about using dried food for backpacking and camping. I too make a soup mix but mine is a mix in a Ziploc bag. Dehydrating gives you so many options and it saves you money.
Great vid Darcy!! Thanks!
Glad you liked it!
Great video 😊 thanks for sharing this info 😊 have a great day 😊🤗
Thank you! You too!
The mixed vegetables in chicken rice a roni is awesome.

Hello Darcy! Thank you so very much again for a well taught lesson!!! Appreciate you!❤
Thank you! 😃
Thank you for sharing for new comers. Been dehydrating a good long time to. But I enjoy all the tips. ✝️💟
You are so welcome
Hi Love your channel ❤, I dehydrated garlic and then I make it in to powder and it last a hole year whit me opening almost every day I love it 🥰
Thanks for this video. My friend and I leave our husbands to fend for themselves every Fall while we hit the flea markets for a week. This will be a good way to have a hot meal when we make it back to the condo in the evenings.
Great video! Very informative. 🤩 I would pour all the ingredients for the soup in an insulated container to keep it hot while rehydrating. Thank you, Darcy! 💖
What great information for us newbies. I dehydrated some orange slices and they are beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
Wonderful! Glad it was helpful!
Thank you
I have dehydrated veggies in the past, but somehow got away from it. I will start again and make some soups in a jar. My grandson is in his first apartment and could use some backup foods. Thanks for the ixeas.
Another great video Darcy
Thank you 🤗
Awesome idea ! I need low salt meals. I'm allergic to garlic so eating out isn't going to happen very easily. Thank you 😀
Just bought a dehydrator after watching your channel , and yes I listened to advice on what to buy , thank you for all your advice ❤
Have fun with it!
what a clever great idea, yes thats me🎉
Great video!! Subbed!♥️
I'm glad you mentioned that you didn't need to condition your veg. I'm a HUGE dehydrator, and make my own camping/backpacking meals. In fact, I have 10 different dehydrators including 2 9-tray Excaliburs, and over 40 Nesco trays and a couple different units. I have never conditioned. Every time I get asked why, I tell them you can't over dehydrate it, since it's simply drying out the moisture in your food. Once all of the moisture is gone, I simply run for another 8-12 hours and I have never had anything fail.
Well I *DO* recommend conditioning everything - especially for folks who are new or unsure about the process. But if you're experienced, you know you over dry, then it's up to you not to. But yes, I support it wholeheartedly and teach it constantly.
What do you mean by conditioning?
@@MFV77just keep turning the jar upside down each side for a week or two & keep shaking to ensure nothing gets stuck together
Thank you so much for this video Darcy! I didn't know we can dehydrate frozen vegetables! That's wonderful. Have a good weekend. Ingrid 🇧🇻
And it makes things SOOOO much easier!

Great video!
Thanks!
I've missed you. I watch Becoming a Farm Girl. She's great too. I didn't see her for quite a while and mentioned her to my husband. Lo and behold she popped up. AI listening in again.
I've been here ;) Hope you've been well if you've missed them!
Great info! I’m realitively new to dehydrating! I did garden veggies this year! I made tomato pieces, crushed, and diced! Then I put them up for stews and soups! What I have used so far is really have enjoyed! Then I dehydrated peppers and everyone’s favorite was crushed red peppers! Did do slices of jalapeno but most of the crushed reds were hotter peppers! I wished I had known if it works for squash! I ended up freezing it! I also like to freeze whole peppers so that I can drop a whole one in my stew and get the flavor without the seeds! If two men will be here to eat I usually drop 1 per person for those that like it can eat the pepper! If no one eats it I can always just remove it!
Great video! My machines are so old and don’t have a temp control. I tend to move the trays around but they still work great. I’m trying to psych myself out of buying a new dehydrator. 😂
I cook for 1. My dehydrator paid for itself the 1rst week in lack of food waste.
Thanks…. I’m learning.
You can do it!
That looks like a good soup. I do similar and thanks to you and others I'm learning more tricks for my dehydrator. I got mine predominantly to make my own MRE's and food to take on adventures where I only need add water. I think I may do some meat overnight; the thing is I was going to do Lamb but it has a high fat contant even frozen in the bags. I'm not sure about that. I do have chicken, turkey, lots of salmon, beef in chunks and lots of frozen and mince frozen. I tend to leave them as they are but for my meals, I will need to dehydrate them. I am planning on making several meals per month to make the options better. So far, I've been just cooking them as fresh, vacuum packing and freezing them, but for weight issues I'm going to dehydrate them. (I don't want to be carrying large weights of food all over the UK and EU). My cycle adventures can go further then. Thank you for your great videos.
Awesome video
Glad you enjoyed it
That hat sure got my attention 😂. Thanks for another great video!
LOL! I swiped it from my Dad - it's definitely 'attention-grabbing!'
I only have an oven how can I do this. I love your Chanel bless you
Plastic canvas is great for the food dryer. If you can find it cheap! Cut to shape, sew pieces together or glue it if you need a specific size.
Yes - but just for those who ask - it is not food-grade plastic.
i have done my soup mix this way many times. just dump and go. so easy. I like tomatoes in mine so I add tomatoes. if I don't have any dehydrated or freeze dried I just use a jar out of my pantry.
Sounds great!
Thanks for this... I am in Canada and I can't believe the price of frozen vegetables lately and the smaller bag sizes....
Shrinkflation, unfortunately!
I live in a humid climate so I do vacuum seal every time I open a jar. I used dehydrated food as a substitute for fresh so I don't go into the jars often. It just makes me feel better that I am keeping the food as fresh as possible. Thanks for the tip about adding newly dehydrated food to an existing jar. I was thinking I would ask that question.
Sounds great!
I recommend using a moisture absorber in it, as well - it really will help with humidity issues a lot.
Love this!
Is there a link to a good resource for a list of foods and their dehydrated lifespan?
Thank you for all you do.
All dehydrated foods have an optimal shelf-life of about 2 years (optimal meaning they may begin losing texture and quality over time after that, but are still okay). Proteins have no 'official' life span because of the possibility of rancidity and protein breakdown - your mileage will vary. Tomatoes, fruits, and other things have a little less than 2 years. You may find charts on the internet that are more specific, but as always - your time will vary depending on how you prepared it, how you store it, the temperature you store it, etc.
Okay now I like this...
