The worst news I heard in my life was when my clinic doctor told me “ you are prediabetic”.A1c was 5.8 , Glucose was 260 and my weight was 201 lbs. I wasn’t able to read news and emails in my phone because my vision was week and blurry. I was very upset and hate the word diabetes because my parents had it and they both passed away. My two brothers have diabetes taking ( Glucophage tablets) after every meal. My doctor didn’t tell me anything about insulin resistance. I came home and started thinking. I found Dr. Jason on RUclips watched his videos repeatedly and decided to implement his advices practically. After eight to nine months, I lost weight , A1c dropped and triglycerides, cholesterol became normal.
I reduced carbs intake and eat twice a day only. I have a normal health and never think about diabetes anymore.

Thank you Dr Fung. Two months ago my doctor said I am pre diabetic and I decided that getting myself back on track is my new challenge, and so I started researching into what I can do to help myself. I have heard from friends that type 2 diabetes is not curable and that people would get fat and overweight and so on, and that I will end up taking more and more medications as there shall be side effects with more medications. I don't want any of these! I came across one of your videos and it was easy to understand and logical. I started the 168 regime on Oct 18 (today is Dec 14) coupled with low carb low sugar diet and my weight dropped from 160 lbs to today's 141.5lbs, body fat went down from 23.3% to today's 19.6%, BMI went down from 24.4 to today's 22.5. a1c went from 6.2 to 6.1, fasting blood sugar dropped from 6.8 to 5.7, total cholesterol went from 6.2 to 5.2. Btw my six packs finally showed, and I had to get new pants as waist went down from 35inches to 31.5 inches. It's as though I have a different body! I shall continue 168 intermittent fasting and low carb diet as a lifestyle as it is easy to follow and sustainable. There is also the time savings and food expenses. Now my decision about whether to eat is simple: when outside the feeding window then don't eat and even if inside feeding window if not hungry then eating is optional. Thank you so much for your videos and you have changed many peoples' life's including mine.

This is absolutely the answer. In my life I have worked so hard to control my weight and to lose weight over and over. I was pushing and depriving my body over and over, only to watch the scale stall or watch my body actually gain weight. This process of reducing my blood glucose AND my insulin levels by time-restricted eating has unlocked my fat cells and they are now responding to all the exercise and good food choices. With opening and closing my feeding window each day as you describe, my body is now using the stored energy, and I am eating a delicious low-carb selection of foods that is highly satisfying. This is a workable and relaxed lifestyle that is also normalizing my weight. I am so thankful to find your research BEFORE I had Type 2 diabetes and before the additional weight caused other health problems associated with obesity. I can not stop explaining this process to others, and it is working for them as well, hoping this solves the crisis of obesity-related illness and helps many people to enjoy their lives free of disease. One only needs to study how obesity effects every process in the body to be motivated to make the changes necessary to maintain health. This process you have explained absolutely is the golden ticket. In my clinical time as a nursing student, I observed too many people who were dealing with serious illness that was lifestyle-related and curable. Treating symptoms and not providing solutions for the patients seemed to keep them on a never-ending hamster wheel. This protocol which you described, can push back the wave of people caught in chronic illness and release them. I have read all your books, I have bought your books for others, I will continue to share this important information everyday as my own experience illustrates that it works! Thank you for getting this information out in book form and for lecturing constantly to the medical community about this solution.

A vegan diet has been proven to reverse type 2 diabetes and that has been known since the 70s. Other doctors did the work.
Dr. Walter Kempner developed the rice and fruit diet, which reversed high blood pressure and diabetic retinopathy.

Considering how many studies there is that Completely disprove this and shows that a high carb diet works just as well to reduce insulin resistance, as long as there's a calorie deficit so that the individual loses weight.

    • @ThePrimal.Podcast
      @ThePrimal.Podcast 2 года назад +1

@@PSA78 Hi there, interesting perspective. And yes you are are correct, high carb (with adequate protein and a calorie deficit) does work for weight loss and some general overall health. There is a DISTINCT difference.
If you want more than just weight loss, you want NEUROLOGICAL, and deeper hormonal changes, you need to go at least keto.
ALSO the studies you suggest are not randomised placebo controlled trials but mostly observational/ prospective studies which can demonstrate a trend but definitely not high quality science to prove a hypothesis.
Thank you again for your perspective 🥰🤓

    • @PSA78
      @PSA78 2 года назад +1

@@ThePrimal.PodcastI'm talking about actual scientific research, peer reviewed, made by people holding Actual degrees on these subjects. The same studies often misquoted by Fung among other fad diet sellers to help gain credibility.
Pretty much every single hormonal balance is dictated by obesity as they are tied in a seesaw, reduce weight and exercise and the rest follows.
And yeah, there's a bunch of studies that is randomized, reversed (every test group goes through the exact same thing to eliminate individual differences), meta-analysis, etc.
Maybe you should try and read an actual study or two, just to see for yourself.

From the over storage of fat plugging the receptors to now ur theory about over flow of blood sugar, I hve concluded that it is a combination of both. I also believe that the most powerful reason of insulin resistance is the excessive amount of insulin released per meal bc in order to do its job it has to pour so much insulin to keep normal bs levels. So excess circulating insulin more fat storage in our organs creating malfunctioning of each! So I hve noticed that when I eat 30 carbs or less per meal I dont gain belly fat and start losing weight. So I think the key here is to avoid the pancreas in releasing an excess amount insulin to avoid accumulation of fat in the organ depot!

Some of the many benefits of fasting and low carb diet on the immune system, blood pressure, blood sugar and anti-aging, all backed up by clinical data:
Thymus stem cells are regenerated, which suppresses aging and renews the immune system.
Fasting stimulates phagocytosis, the ingestion of bacteria and viruses by the immune system.
Blood pressure is quickly and dramatically lowered, which is very important for a good outcome with the current pandemic.
Fasting increases nitric oxide, which has manifold postive effects like reducing arterial plaque.
Weght loss from fasting only loses10% lean tissue and 90% fat compared to the typical 25% lean tissue and 75% fat lost when calorically restricting for long periods.
Blood clotting is reduced and blood clots and arterial plaque are reabsorbed into the body.
Vitamin D plasma levels are increased, and vitamin D in turn increases autophagy!
Blood sugar and insulin are lowered, allowing white blood cells to move more freely throughout the body and do their job. Ideal blood sugar is around 80. Some viruses activate glycolosis (the release of sugar in the body) and clinically it has been shown that decreasing glucose metabolism in the body weakens the influenza virus.
The hormone Leptin is an immunomodulator that keeps the body from attacking itself and obesity causes leptin resistance. Fasting very quickly reduces leptin resistance and leptin levels and one day of fasting can cut your leptin levels in half and gets your immune system working properly again!
When you move out of MTOR your body shuts down the building blocks of the cell which are used to produce organelles and proteins. This means the mechanisms needed by viruses to replicate are by and large unavailable when you are in a deeply fasted state.
It stimulates the AMPK complex and activates autophagy. Autophagy (literally self eating) will cause cells to recycle foreign matter such as viruses and kill cancerous and senescent cells. AMPK does many helpful things in the body including activating the body's antioxidant defenses.
Deep ketosis virtually eliminates chronic inflammation in the body. This can offset the life threatening symptoms of viral pneumonia which effectively kills you through inflammation. This also creates BHB ketones in your body, which also help your immune system and anti-oxidative system, especially in the brain. Ketones also provide an additional energy source during infection, which is critical when trying to fight off a bug. In fact you can have as much as three times the total energy available in your blood when you are in deep ketosis, or even more.
It increases mitochondrial function and repairs mitichondrial DNA, leading to improved ATP production and oxygen efficiency and thereby making cells better able to fight off infection. Increased mitochondrial function also has the added benefit of increasing your metabolism and cancer prevention!
Your body releases interferon which is also triggered by the body during viral attacks to shut down the replication ability of the surrounding cells and stop infections.
After 72 hours or more fasted, your body actually recycles large numbers of immune bodies and creates new ones, rejuvenating your entire system.
When you fast, this stimulates apoptosis in senescent or genetically damaged cells. This kills these cells off completely. Senescent cells are responsible for the effects of aging and are the root cause of the development of cancer. If it were possible to destroy them all it would completely stop aging and cancer. That is not possible but fasting can help limit these effects by killing off many of the affected cells and limiting the future effects of aging.
Fasting also releases BDNF and NGF in the blood which stimulates new nerve and brain cell growth, helping a great deal with diseases like MS, peripheral neuropathy and Alzheimers.
In fact, the biochemical precursor to BDNF is beta-hydroxybutyrate, which is the same ketone the body produces to nourish the brain while fasting.
Autophagy induced by fasting even helps hair regrow.
Dieters losing weight through intermittent fasting show greater reduction in waist size and increase in insulin sensitivity for the same weight lost and alternate day fasters were shown to lose fat while gaining muscle at the same time over a six month period.
Fasting has been shown to increase bone marrow volume by 10% and levels of carnosine in the body in as little as a few weeks.
Fasting also increases telomere length, negating some of the effects of aging at a cellular level.
Eating one meal a day can bring most of these benefits to a lesser degree, and adding a few entire days off from eating per week will have even more effect especially when starting to feel poorly.
Exogenous ketones can aid with fasting, making it easier in healthy people and allowing some people with specific issues to fast in spite of them without worrying as much about hypoglycemia.
Children, pregnant or nursing women should not fast for periods longer than 16 hours. People with pancreatic tumors or hypoglycemia generally cannot fast at all. Type 1 diabetics can also fast but it is more complicated and should be approached with caution. Those with Addison's disease may also be unable to fast without liberal use of exogenous ketones, depending on severity. If you experience extreme symptoms of some kind, especially dizziness then simply break the fast and seek advice.

This was very informative. The illustration in my mind was an elevator in a tall building and all the buttons have been pushed. At first people can crowd together and hold their breath. But that becomes unfeasible as it stops at each floor and no one gets off.

This makes so much sense. Fortunately my Dr. believes in lifestyle change before meds and wants me to practice IF with a HFLC diet first. So far
the results are good. I especially like the 18/6 protocol because it suits my schedule and disposition best. I’ve tried a few other types but this works
for me. That being said, everyone has to figure out what works for them and their disposition/lifestyle.

Some research has shown that nano droplets of saturated fats at the gateway of the insulin receptor can create a partially clogged receptor in turn creating cellular starvation as a ted talk once explained. This does go right along with that awesome explanation.

That is correct. Intercellular lipids or fats cause insulin resistance which is why it correlates so strongly with obesity.

I started Jason's IF diet method (loosely - still have low carb pizza every other week) about 3 months ago. Now down to 1-2 meals a day, and have lost 26 pounds without any hunger pangs. Read his books, live the method. Also make sure to eat items that build immunity. I am 77 with Diabetes 2, and my stats are dropped and never any Covid hint. Antibody tests show I have never gotten it. The biggest problem is when shopping for food, I tend to get too much for just 1-2 daily meals. AND learn tactics to act when you want to eat out of habit to avoid doing so. This should be mandatory for all government workers since governments and schools tend to attract obese employees who then run up benefit costs paid by taxpayers. Thus IF can change the world!

Fat is the cause of Type 2 diabetes, the cure is a low-fat plant-based diet. Even a diet of table sugar, white rice and fruit juice can cure Type 2 diabetes. And yet a lot of people misguidedly believe sugar is the culprit in this disease. Incredible!

Not only does the overflow paradigm behind insulin resistance make the most sense, but it is an easy one to illustrate, because life is filled with all sorts of analogues to this, such as flooding streets, houses with too much garbage, a car with an overfilled gas tank, etc. etc. Life, as a whole, is about homeostasis. The lack of homeostasis is at the root of much of the problems that afflict us. There is no reason to think that insulin resistance would be any different. Thank you Dr. Fung, as always, for making things so easily comprehensible.

But what is causing the sink to overflow? It's not just running water, it's a blockage. When we remove the blockage the overflow drains, I.e. glucose clears from the blood into the cells. The overflow is a result of the block. So should we be removing the excess fat, blocking the cells that need Insulin?

Dr Fung, I humbly request you to talk about the following:
I think different types of cells - hepatic, muscle, adipose - respond differently to insulin and glucose. This difference is what characterises metabolic problems - e.g. a person with low lean muscle mass will develop I.R. more easily because all the glucose can only go to one place - the fat cells, and so they get overwhelmed over time.
Also, there is evidence that a lot of south Asians (I am from India) selectively retain fat and get rid of muscle during fasting (esp prolonged) as an adaptation due to evolution during a long history of famines.
Other populations might have different metabolic dispositions.

Thank you, Dr. Fung. Your insights are truly a blessing in helping to unravel this growing health crisis.
It would seem the challenge of today is finding physicians who would operate within the glucose cell saturation model and would be willing to work with patients and caregivers in managing the tricky risk involved of managing the medications prescribed to allow patients to safely wean themselves off of medication.
Despite desperately wanting to help people, the only thing a lay person or caregiver can do is direct them to your work or to their physician. If their physician adheres to the traditional theory of type 2 diabetes being a "chronic lifelong condition" there is not much you can do.
I guess my conclusion is diabetes educators and physicians are the key to this. Without a reeducation on this issue we are in serious trouble. Most of the effort today seens to revolve around creating medications that are more effective at cramming more glucose into cells in order to lower blood sugar levels leaving everyone happy.
