      I don't lose during fasting and I'm waiting on a new med to try but i still fast 16 hrs a day but see no results, sugar is still high. I started exercising on the gazelle, kicks my ass after 5 min , definitely after 10. My sugars started going high after taking a steroid and have never came down. I might have to go to meat only diet. I wake up at 250 sometimes and its ridiculous.

But thank God for this piece of article ruclips.net/user/postUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i At first he thought he had the flu and was lying down on the bed for three days until his sister took him to the hospital. My brother-in-law has type 1 diagnosed in his early 20s (he’s in his 60s now). No one in his family had it either.
      I’ve heard some doctors say that it is thought to be caused by an extreme illness such as a high fever or bad case of the flu (or something similar) from childhood, and the body’s own immune system mistakenly attacks the beta cells in the pancreas (not unlike an autoimmune type situation). Which can in some cases later lead to type 1 diabetes.

    Finding this man was the best thing to ever happened to me in my life. After my diagnosis of type 2 diabetes I spent a year on medication, wondering around the grocery stores trying to find something to eat and kidding myself. When I went for my 1st year check up and was blind sided by my doctor who has absolutely no bedside manner and left his office like a kid that was just scolded. A friend turned me on to Dr. fung. I was 280 plus. I changed eating habits, changed my lifestyle. Started fasting. I eat once a day. From 4pm to no later than 8pm. The weight fell off. I went from 280lbs+ to 215lbs and eventually found my perfect weight at 220 to 225. The metformin went in the trash 2 years ago. I check my blood sugar about once a week.
    Thank you, Dr. Fung.

      I eat vegetables, fruit, nuts, and meat. I do not eat bread of any kind. No dairy, except for butter. No crackers. I do not eat processed food. Salad dressings and BBQ sauces, I pay very close attention to the carb and sugar content. 2 grams of sugar is my max. I feed my cravings to an extent. Bananas are a treat. Baked potatoes are a craving. I use real butter. I eat a lot of raw veggies. I pay very close attention to anything with a nutritional label. Generally if food comes in a can, jar, box, package, or bottle, I don't even pick it up. Anything else that has a label is inspected for carbs and sugar.

    I've had mixed results from fasting with the blood glucose level going up as mentioned. Dr Fung's explanation is excellent, but quite simple and so logical when you think about it - your body is releasing stored glucose which you probably have a lot of. I decided to get more aggressive with fasting and probably fasted 36 hours which I have rarely done. I was surprised how effective this was in reducing a typical 12-15mM reading (after fasting) down to 6-8mM. I think the answer is to be persistent with the right extent of fasting, be strict about your diet when you don't fast and don't give up.

    Had recent bloodwork and my Dr wants to put me on Metformin because my glucose was above what I prefer it at 130-140`s. I thanked them for their concern and explained that I always get an increase of insulin about 5:00 am and it reduces as the day goes on. I will never go on Metformin. I saw what it did to my mom.

      So, do you still fast? How often and how many meals do you eat a day?

    • @Kimmie_F
      @Kimmie_F 9 месяцев назад +9

      @BW-kv9wj I still fast every day for 16 hours. Only drinking water, plain tea, and an occasional pinch of salt under my tongue. But if you eat enough protein and fat in your 8 hour eating window, I've gone as long as 22 hours without 1 hunger pang. Generally, I eat 2 meals (1 after I break my fast and 1 before I start a fast) with a protein focused snack in the middle. If an amount of food is important to your psyche, fill up on cruciferous vegetables or green vegetables. They are low-carb and great fiber. But for me, eggs are my super food. I eat them every day. 😊 The danger comes from what you add to them. If you're just starting this journey, eat simple whole foods that are 1-3 ingredient recipes that you put together yourself. As you progress in your journey and get to know what affects your blood sugar (a glucose meter is a must. It will never lie to you and tell you it's ok to eat something if it's not, lol) You can eventually venture with food choices as you become more confident. But 1 more piece of advice, do not put anything into your body if you can't say its name or know why it's in your food, and take a great multivitamin 😊 It's a lifestyle change that is so worth it. I feel better than I have in 20 years! Now that's sayin something!

    Thank you for resolving my most annoying mystery!! finally when I wake up in the morning I am not as depressed as I used to be!! Also your advice on skipping breakfast or at least little carb breakfast has been great in controlling blood sugar level! I now achieve reasonable control of my blood sugar level when I am not eating dry fruits, little bread or any carbs!! mind you two small pieces of 85% dark chocolate (20g) after meals help REDUCE my blood sugar level! also I found through the use of my Libere sensor that when I consume avocado before meals my sugar level drops. Just to give you an example; before lunch my sugar level was 8.1 (no breakfast) after having an avocado my sugar level dropped to 7.6, when I had my lunch; salads and quiche plus one slice of protein bread and some cheese (Asiago), my sugar level reading after each 15 minutes was the same!!!! it went up to 9.5 but ONLY when I ate two dry figs. and after two hours it is now 8! It will continue to go down till I go to bed with a reading of 6.5! Stick with the low carb diet! Dr Fung is right! Do not stock up your fridge with more shopping that you need!! Oh and Stay away from Vegan diet! It is NOT normal and NOT natural diet! The real secret is balanced diet with very LOW CARBS INTAKE! It works believe me!

    Hi, I am a type 1 diabetic and fast weekly for 48hrs. Everything described in this video happens to me. I reduce the level of insulin (basal) I take from 11.5u to 7.5u after 24hrs, usually before bed. I monitor my blood sugar using Libre which shows the dawn phenomenon. However, my dawn phenomenon occurs when I wake. The two days of fasting are my two best controlled days of the week.
    When I have fasted for 5 full days, I needed to reduce the basal level down further, eventually down to 4.5u. I used this exercise to derive my perfect basal profile, which I now use for my basal. I plotted that profile using excel and then scaled it up for increased daily amounts. This has proven to me be the best method to derive my basal profile. This fasting has also demonstrated that the basal level I need, is directly linked to the total daily insulin I take. IE, if my daily total insulin increases, with larger bolus shots, I will need to increase the basal to match. However, there is lag in the system.

    Thank you Dr. Fung, for explaining why glucose can go UP when not eating carbs. I thought I was doing something wrong because I recently started to get glucose levels in the low 90s while ketones are 1-2. I understand that I just need to keep going and eventually I’ll get to the next plateau of normalcy for my system. I do have another 15lbs to lose. Lost 40 so far. Not diabetic, no medications, age 61.

I'm so glad I got to learn about my dawn phenomenon. I just couldn't figure out why my sugar level was so high after not eating anything all night. Thank you so much 💓 💗 💛 💖 ☺

These ailments are not limited to diabetes either. Fasting on a regular basis is an excellent way for the body to keep insulin levels under control. Now I know that I can extend my fast when my blood sugar hits the 70’s. I finally fasted for 24 hours, at hour 20 my blood glucose was 70. Instead of running for food, I just went 4 hours longer and my blood sugar was 84. This information takes the worry about having too low of a blood sugar. By the way, I feel better than ever when my blood sugar is between 70 and 85.

      While fasting my blood sugar has dipped as low as 57 (I wear a continuous glucose monitor so an alarm will trigger). I have felt just fine. This usually happens with prolong fasts and I generally do rolling fasts. Just like Dr. Fungs stated I have to adjust my meds, which usually means I can skip most of my meds but I can still experience dawn phenomenon with my my blood sugar being at or just above 100. So you shouldn’t worry about the 80’s as long as you feel fine.

    In six months I cut my a1c in half to where I’m in pre-diabetic range now and I’m cutting my blood pressure meds in half. I had started taking insulin because my doctor threatened to drop me, and I gained 30 pounds in three months, developed all over pain from OA, a trigger thumb, and couldn’t even put on my own socks and shoes. At 62 I thought I was just another old age statistic. But I read about fasting in a natural approach osteoarthritis site so I began fasting with a carnivore diet-bought the Jason’s books along the way-and lost 60 pounds pretty quickly but first my pain resolved including my trigger thumb and after just a week I felt I could walk again.. I couldn’t even walk 15 minutes at first but now I walk for over an hour at a time, Plus lift weights and I’m swimming laps, and dancing again. I have a lot more fat to lose but for the first time I believe I’ll get there.
