      Watched it and I couldn't agree more! 25 years ago I needed to lose 25 lbs and joined a well known Weight loss company. I lost the 25 lbs. but even more valuable I learned about my relationship with food AND to eat 3 good meals a day. That has stayed with me and to this day I rarely snack. I have learned so much from your videos in the past couple of years about how food impacts the body. Eating healthy and how that impacts health. I am a senior and on no medications because of my dietary choices and walking close to 8000 steps a day. I am slowly getting down to my ideal weight in a healthy way understanding food and its relationship to food. Thank you for your videos.

      I am so sad. Something's wrong with me.
      I stayed off sugars in totality both from refined carbs and fruits.
      I ate only leafy greens and mutton for 2 weeks straight. With intermittent fasting of 14/10. I had to eat as early as 8 or 9 am because I have ulcers. This Ulcer doesn't allow me to do water fast. So I have to eat just leafy greens with meats, not fatty meats even. Plus taking Orlistat everyday even when I don't eat all the time. No SUGAR at all. Yet I only lost 1kg. In two weeks. Somethings definitely wrong with me. I need help. Before I go crazy. I visit the gym at least 3 times a week and do moderate intensity cardios as I have no much strength for heavy workouts due to not eating carbs. I don't feel hungry, I feel ketones in my system. But I am not burning fat at all. I am frustrated. Seems like all my efforts are in vain. I need help. What is wrong with me??.
      I currently weigh 110kg, now 109kg after all these. I did a fasting lipid profile, my total Cholesterol was 4.0mmol/L. Triglycerides was 1.7mmol/L. Yet the weight just refused to come off. What else should I do??

    Listening Literally saved my life. I was too late learning. I learned how to reverse my type 2 diabetes and lowered my A1C from 15 to 5.7! My blood sugar was 500 and is now 120 average after a meal and fasting at 90ish.
    It didn’t matter though because I started getting chest pains.... went in to the hospital and had a quadruple bypass. Its because I reversed my Insulin resistance that made the surgery more effective. 10 Doctors came into my room and many others asking “HOW DID YOU DO THAT?” I explained it like I was Dr. Fung! I think I broke knowledge on them!....... :) It’s been 5 months out and I feel fantastic, I intermittent fast 18:6 and eat zero sugar and eat carbs minimally. I fast for 3 days once a month. (Learn how to break your fast) and started the gym on the weekdays and do 30 min cardio and I hr weights. Off on the weekends...I’ve lost 60lbs and will continue my journey. • @maltheopia
      @maltheopia 3 года назад +4

      If you're eating carnivore, be really careful about polyunsaturated fats that don't come with Omega-3s -- mainly from grain-fed pork and chicken. Too much linoleic acid without stearic acid to counterbalance it can lower your TDEE by as much as 400-500 calories as your body fat becomes PUFA-dominant and puts your body into metabolic torpor. If you're eating mostly grass-fed beef, organ meats, dairy, fish, and crustaceans you don't have to worry about it too much. Or if you're lucky enough to get your chicken and pork raised without grains/seed oil.

    • @gloriamaryhaywood2217

      @@maltheopia Heck, you sound like a nutrition scientist!😉 What is TDEE, please?

    • @maltheopia
      @maltheopia 3 года назад +4

      @@gloriamaryhaywood2217 I'm not a nutrition scientist, I just find the topic fascinating. TDEE = total daily energy expenditure, in other words how many calories your body uses a day on everything.
      I haven't been able to measure my sedentary TDEE lately, but since cutting down on polyunsaturated fats about six weeks ago and supplementing with stearic acid -- while already on OMAD/rolling 72h+ fasts for 3+ months -- my body temperature has risen from around 97.5F to 98.0F and I can feel rested off of 6/6.5h of sleep instead of 8. Which indicates to me that my body is coming out of torpor and my TDEE is increasing.

    My Blood sugar was 917 and A1C
    17+. Since then have been on insulin. Novolin R and Levemir. And have gained weight and my former PCP, 7 yrs. Never discussed any solution, just Keep taking it.

      The culprit is eating too many calories compared to the amount you used, insulin wasn't an issue before that happened and wont change the fact you need to eat less than you use to drop the weight. If you burn 3000 calories per day and eat only 1500, no insulin will change the fact that you will lose weight fast.

    As a type one diabetic for the last dozen years or so, I can say that I’ve witnessed this firsthand. When I was 36 and first diagnosed I weighed around 205 pounds and over the ensuing dozen years or so I reached 235 pounds. The other thing that increased over those years was the insulin I was injecting. Finally a couple years ago I decided to do some thing “radical” and go on a low-carb diet. Two big things happen with that, one my blood sugar was much more regulated and two I lost a significant amount of weight. Now for the last several months I’ve also incorporated intermittent fasting and reduced my insulin intake to 1/3 of what I was taking before and I have gotten down to 195 pounds. Over all it has been a great experience.

Keto works wonders for me but one time I thought I could accelerate my weight loss just by cutting down my calorie. But instead of losing, my body just stopped at a set weight and it stayed like that for 2 months even with exercise. Frustrating. I found out now 1,500 Calories combined with fasting 20:4 works best for me 😊 Losing 1-2lbs/week slowly but consistent. But this video gave me a clarity. Thank you dr!

    This video Dr Fung talks about how I went about losing fat and weight. Truth is I never concentrated on losing weight at all, I hardly ever weighed myself. What I did do was concentrate on things to bring my insulin down, I was insulin resistant and prediabetic with belly fat and overweight. So my main concern was to bring down my insulin. The first thing I did was change what I ate, I pretty much was on a carnivore diet (high fat, low to no carbs). Secondly I stopped eating all the time, I did this by eating once a day. My insulin levels started to drop substantially, so did my A1C. Working at bringing my insulin down also brought my blood sugar down reversing my prediabetic state. Now the side effect of that was weight loss and the loss of my body fat, I have a 0.8 waist to hip ratio now and loss over 40 pounds. I concentrated on bringing my insulin down and reversing my insulin resistance, the other things fell in line as a result of me fixing my insulin resistance problem. I went from pushing 200 pounds at 5'7" to now weighing a stable 140 pounds. I still eat a carnivore diet for the most part and I still eat only once a day. Oh, I almost forgot, I also incorporated walking, I walk 6 miles a day 6 days a week. I use one day as a rest day. That's how I did it, Dr Fung is absolutely right on this, I have no doubt that's for sure. I'm healthier now than I ever was, it just took a lifestyle change.

      I hear ya, I do a prolonged fast for about 3 or 4 days every three months or so. I try for 4 times a year. @@kosys5338 Yeah, I have mixed feelings about the term "cheat meals." On one hand, it doesn't say much, but the really damaging ones when you go off-plan really hurt, and fit the old saying "when you're cheating, you're ultimately only cheating YOURSELF." I have a bowl of pho about once a quarter, and if I do that, I'm out for a _long_ walk immediately afterward and a few times the next day, just to burn all those carbs out of my system ASAP.
      Mostly, I've trained myself not to eat sugar and grains or seed oils at all. The tougher struggle has been "keto" treats, nuts and cheese. Basically, I'm at a place where I have to dial back the fat.

    • @CarbageMan
      @CarbageMan 3 года назад +6

      @@kosys5338 My first big help was Dr Berg. I read Dr Fung's books, and that gave me the perseverance to stay low-carb and fasted most of the time. Dr Eric Ekberg has really nice detailed videos, too.
      Some provide a good angle, like Dr Cywes, Shawn Baker, Violet Reveira (keto psychologist) and Thomas Delauer. The recipe-style channels got old fast, and I don't pay too much attention to those because now I eat simple (besides, recipes tend to have more carbs, fat and less whole food.)
      I find many of the others hit and miss, and there are a few who just come across as either "monetizers" or "everything is borrowed from someone else." Some of these are high profile, like one who calls himself Dr Z.
      PS: As for the doctor, I found mine mostly unhelpful. He actually MENTIONED low carb, which is why I looked into it, having already heard of it, but I ended up firing him over "standards of care." I'm now seeing a GP that's a low carb diet specialist.

    This video made so much sense and is true. I know from personal experience. I worked out 6 days a week while eating lower calories and the scale wouldn't move cuz my body adapted to my lifestyle. It drives me crazy when I hear others say its all about calories in and calories out to gain and lose weight!

    My personal habit is now simple. 3 hour eating window per day. Move that window around if I can to stop the body into becoming complacent(afternoon, evening or even skip to the next day at noon). It needs to be startled sometimes. I eat low carb but am not as strict about it as before. My one major problem was the cream I put in my coffee. I didn't realize at the time but it raised my insulin leve high enough to counter the fat burning process. I noticed that after reaching a goal, if I fast for about 4 days, it locks in the new set weight. I hope this helps.

      That’s interesting about the cream. Was it heavy cream and did it have any added inflammatory ingredients like carrageenan? I go out of my way to buy heavy cream that has nothing but organic cream.

      @@boondoggle4820 I like the 35% in my coffee. I thought I was ok by adding less but after a while I was drinking about 5 large decafs during the day. I was also hungrier. Maybe fasting between meals is much more important than I thought. Going to be more vigilant now.

      @@mimi1girl2dempsey3During my fasting time for OMAD, 2 days or 3 days, I only have water, green tea & my supplements. If 5 days fasting, add bone broth on 4th & 5th day. I can have a black coffee but not necessarily

      I find eating outside the 11am-7pm window to be problematic. Nuts and cheese, too, and definitely "keto" snacks. Even olives can be problematic, it seems. Meat, eggs and non-starchy veg in the above window seems to be when I do best.

      @@ahheng6402 I try to live as normal a life as I can. I'll only do 4 day fast after I have lost enough to want to stay there. I still want to lose another 20 lbs but am experimenting to do it as easily as possible. I'm now careful during my daily fast to not ingest anything but black coffee, tea and water. I have been going up a few pounds now and then for the past year but soon get back to my set weight in no time after a small effort. This weight maintenance happened after my last 4 day fast. So now I'm working on losing 10 more pounds and then will fast another 4 or 5 days to lock it in.

    Being consistent with your healthy approach(Low carb/less meal frequency) is the key. It really does not matter with healthy approach you choose(keto/low carb/IF) as long as your consistent with the approach , you will see the result eventually. It took 3 years for me to eventually reach to my optimal goal and get rid of that stubborn belly fat.

      In the end our best eating cycle is one meal a day on day #1 and then only tea on day #2, repeat. Glad to hear you are having an easy time with the eating/fasting. We both have found it easy as well. Cheers.

    I fell off the wagon 😩 I gain weight so quickly. I can look at carby foods and gain 15 lbs. no problem. My metabolism is low making weight loss slower than a snail which makes me feel like nothing is happen. No inches or weight gone. But listening to this has given me motivation again to keep trying. Work on keeping insulin low and do more fasting. Thanks Dr Fung!
