I lost 60 lbs through intermittent fasting, one meal a day at around 2 or 3pm, over a seven month period. Sometimes doing 3 day water fast only, it worked very quickly, I literally melted my excess fat, also a daily walk one hour or more helps tremendously, and walking is free no need to join a gym.

When I am fasting and start to feel hungry, a hot cup of garlic, ginger and turmeric with no sugar does the trick. Then about 15 minutes after, I fill up on water. Also, throughout my journey I have been praying and asking God to give me His strength because I don't have the strength to do this on my own. I am currently doing the 18/6. 1. Watch Dr. Fung videos.
    2. Watch inspirational loss weigh videos
    3. Make meals ahead and always keep chicken cabbage soup on hand.
    4. Knit and crochet constantly while watching videos about knitting
and crochet. I don't want to stop and eat...one more stitch please.

I’ve been using the “Zero” fasting app to keep track of the duration of each fast, and have also been measuring blood glucose & ketones for motivation...I look forward to the maintenance phase, where my IF periods are shorter - trying to combat years of insulin resistance, so opting for more aggressive 5-7 day fasts (once/month or so), followed by ADF until I ‘stabilize’. Once I get closer to my goal, I plan to move to OMAD or perhaps a 20/4 or 18/6 scheme...I will DEFINITELY try the bracelet tip!!!🙏🏼😍🤗 I’ll think of you whenever I wear it!😊

I started OMAD naturally after going carnivore a month ago, and I've discovered that a fatty meat kills my hunger even even more, to the point i have to forced myself to eat the next day. Green tea, sparkling waters, and coffee help break up the monotony of a single drink type throughout the day, so i focus one drink type for what should be each meal. Coffee in the morning, green tea for lunch time, sparkling water throughout the day, and a warm camomile or mint tea around dinner time. It gives me something to look forward too. Thank you for the info Dr Fung. You've literally saved thousands of lives and given many of us back the youthful feeling lives we thought were long since past!

And I Try to keep my carb count low. Not Keto low, but under 100 grams per day. There are a lot of food companies that have jumped on board the low-carb train and so gives us quite a lot to choose from these days! YAY!!🎉! Good luck and Good health everybody!!😉

You are a kindred spirit! I found the same thing with doing ketovore. I was just not hungry for more than a meal a day and have done several 48 and 72 hour fasts just to see if I could and found it sooooooo easy.
This month I have gone full carnivore because I am curious about how I will feel on it and to see what the results will be for me. The one thing I have not really got my head around is how much meat to eat for a meal. What do you do? Do you have a set amount that you aim for? Or do you just eat till full? Full full, stuffed full or comfortably full?

I'm doing ADF but it's not coming off as quickly as I'd like, I'm in my 30s. I'm monitoring that my cals aren't going above maintenance in the feeding windows. I think keto is a heavy augmented, I was able to rip off fat quickly and visibly with keto 15 years ago or so. It's just hard to start...Sugar addiction runs deep...(I binge on berries/cherries)

When I get hungry I do 3 things:
    1. Pray for people, which helps me remember one of the chief reasons I am fasting.
    2. Get out of the house and find something to do. A walk helps me get fresh air and feel better.
    3. I plan the hour that I'll break my fast, including what I will eat. I tell myself that I can make it till that time. When time is up, I will first eat a small, nutritious meal like an egg and salad. Then I eat a low carb food I enjoy, such as a low carb chocolate mug cake.
I challenge myself to make it to the deadline time.

Once it became a habit, I didn't need distractions anymore, cooking or others' eating doesn't bother me now but what really helped me at the beginning were RUclips videos on Intermittent Fasting. It was motivating and educational at the same time. Always remember WHY you are fasting and you'll get a nice "I DID IT" feeling when it's done and your body will be grateful too :)

When I fast, I like to be more physical. I walk on average 8 miles a day. I don’t do this to burn calories; it helps my heart and keeps me from vegging out in front of the television. When I experience nausea or weakness, I know it is time to add salt and potassium to my water. (It really helps) The longest I’ve fasted is 10 days. Doctor Fung’s books have really helped educate me on why we put on the pounds and what can be done to get them off and become more healthy. Before fasting I was a very unhealthy 291 lbs. I am now down 61 lbs and can easily see reaching my goal. Thanks Jason!

Richard, Just regular table salt and a product called “no salt” (a salt substitute) for potassium. I use less than a 1/4 teaspoon for about 16 ounces of water. Personally I don’t have to use this often but it helps. Jason Fung’s “a complete guide to fasting” mentions you should break your fast when you a nauseous. If my nausea continues after the s & p, I break my fast and start again or do a different fasting schedule.

Jason, thanks for all of the videos! I have doing OMAD (usually around 10:30am) for the past 7 months. Truly, the way of eating feels like a miracle to me. I didn’t have a large amount to lose - about 40 pounds - but, the benefits of fasting have been wonderful. Losing the weight has been great. And, the best part is I’ve been able to reduce blood pressure, stabilize blood sugar (was pre-diabetic) and I no longer have all the joint aches and pains. It’s wonderful, and so much easier than tempting myself to overeat 3-4 times a day. I am SO much more productive, too. I have energy and time to do lots of things I’ve been putting off for years. By the way, I will be 70 in two months and feel better than I did at 40!

I woke up at 4am because i was so hungry but again, it only lasted for 2 mins, so i fall asleep in no time. During the afternoon, i felt great! Then have a snack around 7 to 7.30. A boiled egg or some nuts with cottage cheese typically. I have been doing this for one month and have definitely lost weight as I have gone down a size in clothes. I find that 20 to 4 works for me so far so I'll stick with it for now.

The things that keep me going are : 1 Anger - at being treated like it is my fault and I am just a weak, stupid person . 2 - the Logical Presentation of the research that gives sufficient evidence that it works 3- Knowing that this is my best and last chance to make a significant and transformative change in my life.
Interesting that you say Cinnabon. This is one of the things I crave most, but it isn't greater than my desire to prove that I am not to blame. When armed with knowledge and understanding I have all I need to endure and show my strength. Thank you Dr. Fung for giving me what I need to regain some dignity in life.

This is just a stepping stone. When you have the drive and discipline to accomplish this, then next is career/finances and whatever else you wanted. This is a good first step. I find our bodies are a representation of our mental state/priority, health really should be first, if not, then something is out of balance. You're on a good track, keep it up. Cinnabons are awesome, I'm glad I moved out of Ontario/Toronto. There are no Cinnabons in my province.

One thing (of many) that I love and admire about Dr. Fung is that he is careful to ONLY present facts & results that are the outcome of having been studied on humans, mostly those that have been peer-reviewed in reputable, high-quality journals, and most of his focus is on causal factors - not associative. He states this very clearly in “The Obesity Code”...that he will never present data that came from animal studies (rats, pigs, and the like) - “that hardly qualifies as evidence” he says...🙏🏼😁😁😊

I've tried fasting in the past and I am trying it again. Your explanations in this video will help me reflect on how I feel during the day. Tip #2, "Ride out the Hunger Waves" was the most profound. I noticed that I will have strong hunger cravings, but then I feel better. I never thought about how our baselines rise and fall and our hunger settles down. The graphics help me understand what my body is feeling and I believe I will be able to tell myself that I'm riding out the waves. Thank you for your clear explanation.

Things I do to help me ride the hunger wave is much as I did when I quit smoking. Kept my hands wet! Washed dishes, wash the car inside & out, water plants or the garden, wash windows.
I even gave the dog a bath, however we both preferred to going for a walk! As you said, just keep busy, and praise yourself for not giving in.

What helps me most is having a "drink routine" which I tell myself I have to finish before I start eating. My usual pattern is a large bottle of cold brew green tea, then coffee, then sparkling water. Sipping each ensures it's decently late in the day before I finish, so my fasting period is a decent length (usually 20-23 hrs). For some reason it works!

I eat around 2pm, always start my day with green tea matcha with lemon juice and slices of lemon rinds, also water with lemon, I will feel a slight hunger by 12 noon but goes away as soon as I drink my lemon water, after work at 6pm I ride in my peloton bike for 45 min to an hr, I feel so good and so happy that I finally found the best lifestyle and I’m so thankful for all of your teachings! I love to cook for my family while fasting. The normal routine of dinner is deciding what to make, preparing it, serving it, and cleaning it up. Eating is only one part of that, so I just skip that part, but still feel like I've had a normal day. If I skip the whole routine, I have all this extra time to fill and feel like a part of my day is missing.

Actually a Lemon has 2.1 grams of sugar, but the REAL issue here is Insulin resistance and the effect of sugar on fasting. Another REAL issue is that the Covid virus uses sugar molecules to form a sheath of protection from anti-bodies, that is why diabetic and obese people are the most vulnerable to the virus. I understand your point about a little bit of natural sugar can’t be all that bad...but I would avoid it while fasting.

I felt like a failure because even when I lost a couple of pounds, it didn't take long to put them right back on. IF has taken all that off my plate. For the first time ever I feel like I can make this lifestyle change a permanent one. I now use that previous eating time on meditation and yoga. It's a more mindfulness approach!!
