Doc I was diabetic since I was 13 years old .. doctors put me on insulin.. after that I started gaining more weight and I was told I’ll be insulin dependent.. after watching your videos I have my sugars in control and on medication now doctors have stopped insulin.. now I’m 28 years old .. half of my life I was worried about this is insulin injections

@@samruddhikale9916Dr Ben bikman explains in his book , that when sugar is high , insulin production increases to be able to bring down the sugar levels. After a long period like that , the body starts to become insulin resistance which means it won’t allow the insulin to “burn” the sugar, so the insulin production goes even higher and crazier until you become high in glucose (sugar) and high in insulin and that’s when you become diabetic. Now , dr Ben is wondering what’s the reason doctors will give you more insulin if the only thing you actually need to do is bring your glucose levels down and stop insulin resistance and become insulin sensitive again and the diabetes will go bye bye..

Thank you, Dr. Fung. You’ve truly changed my life. While I’ve never had weight issues, I struggled with depression and neglected my eating habits. Over time, I developed joint pain, arthritis, and was diagnosed with fibromyalgia over a year ago. At 44, I considered myself healthy-until I wasn’t. That’s when I discovered water fasting, and I can’t even begin to describe how much it’s helped me. I’ve done 5-day and 10-day fasts, and more regularly, 3- or 4-day fasts. My doctor was amazed by how much I lowered my cholesterol, but he was skeptical when I told him about fasting. Despite his reservations, I refused medication because I feel so much better now.
      Thank you for everything!

I tried the keto diet and I craved carbs all the time. I couldn't stay on the keto diet. I found the Mayo Clinic Diet book by Donald Hensrud. This book taught how to measure calories in foods so that you will lose weight. This book also taught to have a serving of fruit (my favorite is a cup of cantaloupe) and a nonstarchy vegetable with every meal. This book also taught to eat unrefined carbs, like steel cut oats instead of instant oats. I lost weight following this diet and have kept most of the weight off since 2021. I weigh myself every day to ensure I am not gaining weight back. I now do intermittent fasting having two meals a day and sometimes one meal a day especially if I am going to a restaurant and eating a lot of calories for one meal. I don't follow the diet as religiously as I did when I first used it to lose weight and have more fat in the diet and more refined carbs than recommended, but I still measure calories to ensure I am not overeating calories way too much. I also only eat one meal a day sometimes when I have overeaten calories on another day. Weighing myself daily helps ensure I am not gaining too much weight. I also do one meal a day when I want to lose the extra weight I see on the scale.

One of the PAs was worried about me being too "skinny" even when my weight is smack dab in the middle of the normal BMI bracket. She was very concerned I was skipping meals. The sad thing is when obesity is so normalized that a healthcare provider feels that normal BMI is "too skinny."

Many animals in the wild need to eat less and less as they get older. Some animals actually need to eat as little as 2 times per week in order to maintain a healthy weight. I am starting to believe this is the case for people as well. I have tracked my ketones for a year, and am now using a lumen. The results are telling me that I don't need to eat as much or as often as I have been told all my life.

It also teaches to have a serving of fruit (my favorite is a cup of cantaloupe) and a nonstarchy vegetable at every meal. QUESTION: How do you explain this, and then answer back when people who don't want to give up carbs, or believe in the old 'eat 6 times a day', etc say that many ppl have lost weight successfully eating almost ONLY carbs but strictly by calorie counting? If you read the Mastering Diabetes book by Cyrus Khambatta, you'll learn that fat also causes insulin resistance. When you eat fat it automatically is used by cells, then when glucose tries to get in your cells, the cells are less likely to open to insulin to allow glucose into the cell. Khambatta explains this is in detail as he received a degree in nutrition sciences. I like the book The Mayo Clinic Diet by Donald Hensrud. The book teaches how to measure calories to ensure weight loss. It also teaches to have a serving of fruit (favorite is a cup of cantaloupe as it keeps me full) and a nonstarchy vegetable with every meal. I can't follow keto diet longterm and crave meat too much to be vegan. I can however follow intermittent fasting and eat only one to two meals a day.

A nice explanation of biochemical events controlling lipolysis. Insulin does indeed inhibit hormone-sensitive lipase in adipose tissue by promoting its dephosphorylation, resulting in inhibition of lipolysis. On the other hand, epinephrine can counter the effect of insulin and stimulate lipolysis of stored triglycerides by activating hormone-sensitive lipase. Perhaps exercise that promotes an increase in epinephrine release could contribute to unlocking the insulin effect on lpolysis!

Yes, I do eat white rice, potatoes, and sometimes white bread. 1800 calories a day and I dropped 14 pounds in 7 weeks. I am also never hungry, the volume of food is amazing for 1800 calories if you eat the right foods. I do lift weights 5 times a week and go for a walk for cardio a few times a week as well. People are way overthinking weight loss. Weight watchers doesn't have calorie counting, but the points rewards eating high protein and consuming as many vegetables as you want. High volume food with low calories.

Your lifestyle makes for your hormones to balance out beautifully. It then becomes so simple and logical to the brain and one can think why do people over think this, why can't they see the obvious? Well it is probably because their hormones are not in synch yet. I see it with myself, when I eat sensibly, work out, take fresh air and sleep well, my brain is so clear, my mood so stable. But one bad night or a few days without exercising and I'm in troubled waters again 😅

The aim of this and other similar videos is to explain how insulin affects fat storage and loss and also how to regulate it by the proper way of eating in order to make it work in your favor. The doctor has once more explained it in a most comprehensive manner. There is no point in saying that the french, italians, germans or whoever eat this and that and are not obese. Sounds a bit like searching for an excuse in order to eat more sugars. Reminds of the uncle everybody has who was a heavy smoker and still lived until it's 90s. 😅 Let's just stick to the take away of this lesson: Insulin level low -->releasing fat for burning-->fat loss.
Insulin level high-->fat can't be burned and gets stored.

I tend to over do it on the one big extended eating window of 18/6 and will be bloated in the AM. Also, I am finding what you eat is very important. I eat salad, olive oil, organic produce, peco-romano cheese, bread and potatoes. I am not convinced that I do any better with an extreme low carb diet. Sounds like the majority of people do well with the normal recomendations, but I am discovering that a natural Mediterainan diet works well for me, weight control, consistent energy, and well being. Problem with "low carb" diet is that it doesn't tell me how much and what proteins you are eating. Often I see that low carb diet is actually implemented with very high proteins and protein in a low carb diet still demands a lot of insulin. There is no real "fat only" foods so at end of the day restricting food amounts is necessary to low insulin levels no matter what you eat.

    • @ipman8646

@@Clinueee The odd thing is that cultures like Okinawans eat like a 10:1 carbs to protein, and have low diabetes and one of the highest longevity. But, they eat a lot of sweet potatoes and vegetables, not refined carbs. My focus is to eat lots of salads, cooked veggies, and potatoes, with some breads and cheese + lots of olive oil, while reducing meat consumption. I will say it is hard for westerners like me who grew up on cheeseburgers and fries, sometimes I want rich food and cake! And, I do cheat a bit. Don't make food slavery, but take some of the good advice from the health peeps on youtube and do your best. I have been thinking of this food - energy/calorie pathway from a different angle, and came to a realization that one important intermediary gets often unwittingly omitted. The Mitochondria. We tend to perceive food as a direct energy source for ourselves. However, in reality, it’s an energy source for the mitochondria. Only after feeding the latter we get actual calories in a form of ATP. Since fat produced 9 ATP molecules vs 3 from sugars, it must the preferred source of fuel for the mitochondria. If it weren’t we wouldn’t have evolved to store fat. So fat for optimal long term functioning and sugars for short term storage and crisis preparedness.

He doesn't know something the others don't. His statement here is misleading. Insulin happens to be the hormone that is responsible for storing fat. That doesn't mean that I am guaranteed to lose weight if I manage to reduce that hormone's level in my blood. My insulin levels rise after every meal. That doesn't mean that I am getting fat after every meal, because insulin only goes to storing fat when we overeat. Even if it's only protein I ate, insulin is necessary to push protein into my muscle tissue. Likewise, claims that insulin levels must be low in order for us to lose weight, are also false, because the level of the hormone changes a lot over the course of the day. See Layne Norton's work.
