Gibson, thank you for not censoring the involvement of other brands in this series. Fender Stratocasters are just as important as our Gibson Les Pauls, and we all love all guitars!!!
I love it when players of this caliber are willing to sit down and share their instruments and their stories. As in Peter's case, I can see that passion is real. It is 100% relatable. Rich, poor, famous, or a nobody, we are all sripped down to just 1 thing. The love of music. At that level, we are all the same. Thank you, Peter!
Skipped school when Frampton Comes Alive first come out at the local record store. Spent the rest of the day listening to it over and over. 1-6-‘76 was a damn good day!!
Your story make my eye wet.. I-6-76 I was forced to go to army traing camp . I'm korean and it was mandatory. After 3 years duty I return to my band and I played peter's songs.. When I heard songs of his album Flamton somes alive it blew me away.. His lp tone sound was fantastic, amazing. It makes me huge fan of les paul. I have one lp traditional now it's tone always make my heart melts.
Framton played a Les Paul, with three humbucker pickups. This is a nice guitar,I have a 81 custom, sounds like heaven, heavier than hell. Finally I bought a sg standard ,lighter, with same sound,or real close,a little brighter maybe.PETER could play any guitar well, that's for sure!
This is one of the best the collection videos you’ve done and story about the phenix is one of the best guitar stories ever. Peter seems like one of the nicest down to earth famous guitar players. Really enjoyed watching this.
Peter Frampton is one of my all time guitar heroes. I was in junior high school when Frampton Comes Alive came out. I can’t believe how long ago that was! That album still stands out! I was lucky enough to see Peter in concert 4 times over the last 10 years. Each time he sounded inspired and put on an incredible show. It brought me back to being a 14 year old kid in Germany listening to that live album. It was magic.
I bought my first Gibson Les Paul in 2020 and started showing signs of IBM about a year afterwards. I got a confirmed diagnosis in November 2023. You try your best to figure out how to make it work with playing guitar. I’ve changed all my electrics to use 8s. I suppose I’ll end up being a slide guitar player after a few years of this disease. I do believe in keeping hope that there will be a treatment. Always a fan of Peter Frampton. Keep on rocking. 👍
Could not stop watching.. One of the best Interviews Mark and Gibson have done to date. Thanks Peter for being so forth coming and sharing of your musical history!
This was an amazing interview! I've been a fan of Peter's since listening to my first Humble Pie album, "Rock On," in 1970-71. I was 17, and played this album every single day. Sometimes, I would fall asleep listening at night, and my Dad would come in and turn it off. Then, to my amazement, he would go down into our basement with his guitars and I could hear him playing! Peter, this was such a nice tour of your guitars, and convo with Mark! I will be hoping and praying for you to retain your good health always, so you can do what you love, and we can love what you do!! You are a treasure!!
I saw him live in 1977 playing in Greensboro NC. touring on the popularity of Frampton comes Alive, the show was amazing. He was such an influence on my playing. I am very fortunate to own one of his signatures that I touch every day
I don't think you will remember me. I was walking through JFK AIRPORT.. Killing time to flight back to Orlando Peter you had hair down to the middle of your back. You saw me walking with my 67 GIBSON SG special 200. Baritone 24 frets and ebony finger board. American standard. Pat pickup. You told me you were going back to England to record in the studio. At that time you don't know who to believe. But when we could hear someone hanging on the other side of the wall. the person was saying your plane is ready . Then the wall opened up and You went through the wall. Right then I believed everything you said. Some years later went to your concert at the Florida orange bowl. You gave me a wonderful memory. thank you Peter Framton.
Yeah, I like that they don't cancel Fender in this series. I think they're smart enough to know that it gives the series a wider appeal. After all, Fenders aren't going to go away, almost all of the most famous players own at least one, and Fender and Gibson are really the two pillars of the electric guitar and you can't change history.
My favorite episode so far! Frampton always has the most amazing tone, and I appreciate his unique note choices in his solos. Incredible to see his collection.
Great stuff, thank you. A few things: - Harrison's red Les Paul Lucy has a bit of a backstory. It was previously a Burst with a Bigsby owned by John Sebastian of the Lovin' Spoonful. He put it up for sale via a shop. Rick Derringer, then with the McCoys ('Hang On Sloopy'...which had Bernard Purdie on drums; later w/Johnny Winter, recorded w/Steely Dan etc) purchased it, had the Bigsby removed and the body refinished in red. Being quite petite in stature I wouldn't be surprised if he also had the neck shaved, because for whatever reason he didn't like the end result so had the shop put it back up for sale. That is when Clapton purchased it. As with his SG 'Fool' he gave the Les Paul to George Harrison. Clapton played it on 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' because Harrison asked him to solo on the record while they were driving to the studio (Clapton was to be a spectator). Clapton pointed out that he had no guitar, to which George said he could play 'Lucy'. - Yes, the Shadows were massive, particularly in the UK. Because they were primarily an instrumental group, everyone from Beck, Clapton, Page and Trower, to May, Moore, Knopfler and the Beatles have cited them as major inspirations. As Peter notes, Jet Harris and drummer Mehan left the Shadows to do their own thing as Jet Harris & Tony Meehan...and they were huge for a minute. What isn't mentioned is that Jimmy Page's breakthrough moments was being on their chart-topping hit 'Diamonds'. He said that overnight everyone wanted him on their records. Also, John Paul Jones (then known as John Baldwin) got his first profession break as a member their touring band (Harris's bass functioned as 'lead guitar'). And...Jet Harris was the first bassist in the original Jeff Beck Group alongside Rod Stewart and Ronnie Wood. Though Wood played bass on that band's two albums, he was originally enlisted on rhythm guitar, with Viv Prince - Keith Moon's smash 'em up hero from the Pretty Things - on drums. But Harris's issues quickly became evident so he was dismissed, with Prince also soon getting the boot. - Worth noting that Bill Wyman also managed Peter's early band (possibly that was said in the chat). And when the Stones ejected Brian Jones, apparently Bill and Charlie Watts wanted Peter in his place. Though no Stones were on Peter's debut solo album 'Winds of Change', Stones affiliates Billy Preston and Jim Price were onboard, as were Ringo and Klaus Voorman as well as Spooky Tooth's Mick Jones, who later formed Foreigner. (Worth nothing that Greg Ridley, Peter's bassist bandmate in Humble Pie had also been in Spooky Tooth, as was Gary 'Dreamweaver' Wright.) - Peter was also a massive star prior to Humble Pie, a band he assembled after leaving the Herd, with whom he had several major UK/European hits and was a massive pop star ('The Face of '68'). So really, he has had three major successful careers: the Herd, Humble Pie and solo. And with those highs he has suffered some serious downs including coming out of 'Frampton Comes Alive' with no money. But look at him - he exemplifies the joy and sense of creative adventure that being a musician is all about. He ain't in it for the money, he's in it for the love. Good on him!
Saw Frampton at Packard Music Hall in Warren,Ohio in ‘72.He was touring to promote his first solo lp. Wind of Change after leaving Humble Pie.Great concert and saw him 4 different times after that.Always a great, humble performer and never disappointed.Always got my money’s worth seeing him live.
I am an original Humble Pie fan. For me, there was no better chemistry between two guitarists than Peter Frampton and Steve Marriott. When they moved to electric exclusively after their first two albums (I listened to the HP cover of Holly's "Heartbeat" a thousand times; your solo was so fine), the transformation was complete. "Humble Pie," and "Rock On," grabbed me. Not forgetting "Comes Alive," "Performance" is one of the best live albums ever recorded to me. Peter, you broke my heart when you left Stevie and the guys, and went solo. Clem Clemson, while a fine guitarist in his own right, just couldn't measure up to you, unfortunately. You were the perfect throttle to keep Steve from going overboard. HP was never the same after you left. The rest is history. Mark, the Rick Nielsen interview was fantastic, but you outdid yourself here. Thanks for bringing Peter alive for me. It was so encouraging to see him doing so well. Great performance.
Being a 80s kid Heavy Metal was my jam but i was blown away the first time I heard Frampton comes alive. One of the most under rated guitar players ever.
Please make this "Underrated" bullshit stop. It adds nothing to the conversation. Peter sold millions of records and is widely regarded as an excellent guitarist and musician going back to the Humble Pie days. If there was actually a rating system for musical endeavors, he would be well represented.

Great sit down with Peter! The incredible death and resurrection of the Phoenix LP custom, Django's tenor, JJ Cale's 60 burst and Jimi's Coral sitar! Man!
Fantastic video! I have one of the Frampton Custom Shop Les Paul's, I bought new. But I've purchased the same pickups from Tom Holmes, wound exactly as he made them for Peter, and put them in it. Love these Gibson TV series. This was a truly special one. Peter Framptom's composition, playing and tones inspired me since the first time I heard his Live album. Still to this day he keeps sounding magical. I also have and love one Black Custom Gibson above all the rest. Its a 2002 two humbucker soul mate warrior.

Fantastic interview, Comes Alive was my first record purchase when it came out. I’ve been lucky enough to see him 3 times over the years, and as recently as last year. He’s still got it and I hope he knows that.
This was a fantastic interview and showing some of his collection. Peter is definitely one of the best ever. Peter Frampton Comes Alive was and is the best Rock had and has to offer.

Ok IM GOING TO SAY IT.THIS IS THE MOST INTERESTING VIDEO OF ITS GENRE I HAVE SEEN IN YEARS.PETER IS FUNNY, AND THE MAN DOING THE QUESTIONS ACTUALLY LETS PETER TALK,PRODDING NEVER INTERRUPING HIM.THAT ITSELF MAKES THIS A GOOD SHOW,MATES
Mark is a very good interviewer. Not only is he an encyclopedia of guitar knowledge he asks thoughtful questions and gives the guest time to fully articulate and express their thoughts and opinions.
I love to see all the vintage guitars. Peter is an icon. I can’t imagine having all those incredible guitars. I try to play but I’m one of those guys that look at RUclips videos and try to play( I suck to tell the truth) even if I didn’t try to play I would still try to purchase guitars. Not one the same like snow flakes so beautiful. Art work … blows my mind.
Oh man...really beautiful guitars🤩 but hey....Peter is a great human being, a wonderful man and he looks so young. Hope we will have him for tons more of music🙏🍀. Much Peace & Love from Germany ☮😎✌
What an absolute legend. And wow, he obviously takes amazing care of his guitars. They were all immaculate besides the Phenix!! Just one amazing story after another. Also, EVERY TIME I see an interview with Frampton, he is so humble and enthusiastic. The Phenix will become one of the highest priced guitars ever to sell I have no doubt. I remember being a kid and listening to Frampton Comes Alive and would just stare at the cover and that guitar. I remember my 15 year old self telling myself that was the coolest looking guitar I have ever seen, and to this day, it is still one of the most iconic guitars ever. Long live Frampton!!!
Absolutely amazing in so many ways! A beautiful collection from a real legend and a beautiful person and player! I greatly enjoyed this as a lifelong fan!
One of the few youtube shows I click the Like button before the intro is over. Thank you, Mark and team, for your work to make these possible. I'm looking forward to future shows!!
When I was a teen in '76, I would stare at the cover of Comes Alive for hours, just drooling over the guitar. See it with the scars is like seeing an ex-girlfriend after she got into a car accident. Um, you look great. Glad you're alive, Tish.
MR PETER FRAMPTON again what an amazing interview, The man is so Humble and an incredible source of knowledge. His story is incredible. He is a total gear head and gentleman. The Collection never misses!
Shot out to the Gibson team for showcasing some Fenders too!
And I really enjoy the interview segments in between the guitars.
Loved this interview. Great chemistry. Man, that burst Les Paul that belonged to JJ Cale is crazy nice, and the stories of other guitars, amazing. And that 1935 Gibson L-0… 🎶
Best interview yet. Love Peter
I listened to Frampton Comes Alive excessively when I was 10. His usage of Dorian and minor scales has stuck with me.
60 years touring! Thanks for influencing so many generations!
Peter is a great musician and song writer and humble. Love these, we need more.
Mark is a very good interviewer. Not only is he an encyclopedia of guitar knowledge he asks thoughtful questions and gives the guest time to fully articulate and express their thoughts and opinions.
loved the interview. Thank you
Well done Mark. He’s a lovely fellah and you brought out the best in him. 🙏
Truly a delightful interview. Peters enthusiasm is quite evident. If I were him I would buy most of everything he has due to my love of exotic woods.
I have been a Peter Frampton fan for 50 years. First, last, always my absolute favorite guitarist. No one compares.
Great video! It is so refreshing to hear someone who is so grateful for their success!!
Love the interview , love Peter Frampton ❤
Absolutely amazing in so many ways! A beautiful collection from a real legend and a beautiful person and player! I greatly enjoyed this as a lifelong fan!
One of the few youtube shows I click the Like button before the intro is over. Thank you, Mark and team, for your work to make these possible. I'm looking forward to future shows!!
one of the best things on youtube. saving this for later when the little monsters go to bed.
When I was a teen in '76, I would stare at the cover of Comes Alive for hours, just drooling over the guitar. See it with the scars is like seeing an ex-girlfriend after she got into a car accident. Um, you look great. Glad you're alive, Tish.
I really love this series. Keep em' coming!
Been waiting for this one! I see that he finally got nominated for the Hall of Fame. Long overdue!
