Gibson, please have a gallery/photo archive where we can see the made to measures, one offs etc etc, would be cool to see what people come up with and what actually can be done from the Custom Shop.
To Eric the neck guy , I’ll give props because the neck profiles coming out of the custom shop recently have been the best since the custom shop started IMO.
Whoever ordered that "white beauty" Les Paul with those split inlays and gold hardware has some damn good taste! Gibson should make a run of those, man that thing was beautiful.
It’s refreshing to see how much pride these guys have in what they do. A lot of aspects of guitar building is factory work. It can be very repetitive. I’ve worked with tools my whole life, and repetition can be maddening. But these guys seem to keep it in perspective and appreciate and respect the importance of each part of the process.
I'm 50 years old I've been playing guitar for 38 years. It's really nice to see younger guys, pick up the torch left by the older ones and to keep it going. The responsibility laid out their feet is very important and the fact that they understand that really is important
Great video showing Gibson employees and their skills at making guitars. I have been playing Gibson guitars since I was a teenager in the early 70's. When my uncle was drafted into the Vietnam war, he took his Gibson SG with him. When he came back home, my dad bought it from him for me. It was a little beat up but still played and sounded great. It was my first Gibson guitar and I have been playing them ever since. I recently purchased two of the new Gibson SG Supreme's in both the wine red and the ebony 3-pickup models because I couldn't make up my mind which to get. These are great playing and sounding guitars. Maybe one day a custom shop.
Pete at the electronics dept has the solder wrapped around a wooden drumstick and uses the butt of the stick to hold down the wire/pot/ cap etc while he solders. "That" made the video worth watching. I hope they treat the staff at every level of experience and skill with respect because they all contribute to the success of this great story. After all these years they are still learning from their errors. Keep it simple..This proves that Gibson can still make añ instrument that inspires.
My Gibson Les Paul is a family member. She is only a Standard premium plus top from 2005 but she is the best guitar I have ever played or heard in 30 years. Gibson makes the best guitars in my opinion and there is reason that they are the number choice for guitarists. Hey Gibson can I have a job so I can keep my LP? Thanks you.
If you’re a life long guitar player, music fan, and dreamer….how can someone possibly live and die without purchasing at least one of these custom shop dream machines. I only have 4 and I am salivating over which one is next, ‘59 dot 335 , Black Beauty LP , another burst 💥. Oh there’s more. I will leave this earth one day, but not before wearing out some amazing 🤩 Gibsons.🎉😅 Also you get what you pay for people, they make these things from raw trees that they sourced from around the planet 🌎 Thank you Gibson !
It's really beautiful to look at. The people put their heart and soul into it. But I haven't just noticed this at Gibson, you can see it at many other brands too. It just seems to be the case in a large part of the industry. Really very cool!

Amazing ! i've been watching all youtuber's factory tours and as much as i love hearing Jim master luthier explaining stuff i always wished we heard more directly from the workers doing the job and it fixes that, thank you guys
This video came at the right time as I am half way through my life and finally just about to pull the trigger on my dream guitar the ebony Gibson Les Paul Custom.
I have to say, I really appreciate how this tour was done. A lot of times when a company does this it feels like an ad, and sure it’s still an ad. But, the continuous spotlight on the employees who work tirelessly on these guitars and just letting them speak is in my mind what sets this one apart,
I have a handful of Gibsons and I really can’t understand why I see so many negative posts about them. Everyone of mine play really beautifully, I don’t even own any custom shop models, they’re all standard Gibsons USA’s. Maybe one of these days I’ll own a CS one too, who knows :)
My experience hasn't been that good with Gibsons unfortunately. Quite a few defects here and there, some smaller some more important. I have owned two LP Classics and tried many in stores.
I think some of it is set up, if the guitar is set up properly they sound wonderful. My issue is with final finish sanding and paint. I can give you an example. The order was for a simple classic Gold top. The first one that arrived had major issues on the fretboard, visual gaps where the fret was seated into the fretboard. The headstock had overspray of look like red paint which was then cleared over. The striping of the guitar around the body had cracks in the clear and just generally the process prior to the clear coat appear to be really rushed with no attention to detail, and then it was all cleared over. On the back of the guitar the plastic cover literally sat above the rear body of the guitar. I'm not trying to exaggerate this it wasn't major but what I'm talking about is numerous flaws and what should be a flawless finish. No problems with sending it back to Gibson and they sent another. The next one was just as bad if not worse. The most major defects with the second guitar was where it appeared it either stayed under the sander too long and the face was extremely lumpy looking the gold top itself im describing. The second guitar I believe was a return that they tried to touch up and then sent to the customer. I truly believe it was used in some manner. Even the smell of the guitar if that makes sense out of the case was nearly not there. If it wasn't used or an obvious return then it was someone new In the paint shop. Also guitar number two was more than 11 lb if I remember correctly, again I may be nitpicking but it was extremely heavy in comparison to others. The third guitar was perfect, I can't explain it no idea why it took that long. What's the third guitar was what the first guitar should have been. They are a gracious company in the beginning of the video if you notice the young man with the orbital sander on the face of the guitar, moving too fast in my opinion and not allowing the machine to do the work. It's not prep work that makes the paint job good or bad. Great company and love what they're doing. The experience was just surprising as this guitar was their classic design.
Love this, great to see more of the employees. I’ve got 3 custom shops already. I love them but a big part of why I’m happy to buy them is knowing the guys and gals making it happen are happy, as long as we get to see that I’m happy.

Hey Gibson, good tour, good to see who's making the guitars; now you're only missing 1 thing: I'd love for you to follow those guitars to the customer's home and interview them to hear their story. That would round out the whole Gibson raison d'etre.

Amazing testament to the dedication & passion that goes into the craft! Noob question, outside of the aged hardware / patina, do VOS reissues sport minor artificially induced swirl marks, light scratches on body as well as random light scratches along the neck binding?
Awesome video. I always wondered what happens to the wood chips and saw dust. Does it get recycled or used in a different application? rock on guys. I love the channel.
Vast volumes of wood chips and sawdust are produced every day. The air in the shop is always moving as the dust collectors at the various stations suck a lot of air. Gibson pays a company to empty the collectors and take away the sawdust. It eventually becomes particle board, press board, and countless of other materials. It doesn't go to waste.
Gibson needs a configurator on their site. So, we can play around with all the different finishes, hardware options, etc. and get an idea of what it'll look like.
Word working is a skill that is handed down through generations. There aren’t a good number of lifetime woodworkers around in the U.S. as there were 20 years ago. Hard to find a dud as skilled as Butch.
Great video. The number one problem is that Gibson is still putting the frets in the fingerboard before they glue it to the neck. So a pre-Plek is nice but it really doesn't address the problems and really the fingerboard should be married to the neck and then after it sits/dries for a few weeks it should be re-plained and then fretted and then Plek'd. That way all of the settling and or anomalies are plained out of the fingerboard for perfectly straight fingerboard and fret work.
