Mike never gets mentioned with the guitar greats, maybe because he's always been so understated or doesn't see how many notes he can cram into each bar. He definitely belongs. If you don't understand this man's greatness, you don't understand music.
The funny thing is he’s mentioned in virtually every recording session when it comes to rock/americana guitar. He’s sort of the touch point for that heartland rock tone.
I agree but the cool thing about these type of players and many studio musicians are that they don’t really care for the fame/prefer to stay behind the scenes, and get paid big bank. I know people who truly know and get music/instruments know people like Mike.
I noticed this, Mark actually let the artist tell his 'version' of the history and the story of the guitar without butting in and doing any major correcting which he could have many times. Mark does a great job in this role. Top stuff!
I love how Gibson doesn’t act like they’re the only guitar company and they acknowledge other companies and appreciate them as a part of the history of music. Love the direction Gibson is going under the new ownership.
I love that Mike doesn't know a lot about a lot of the guitars. Bought them because they were cool and played them. Probably never spent five minutes in his life on a guitar forum. Just a player.

Simply only the best Guitar Verturosose like Mr. Campbell really know how to bring the best of these classic master pieces. Long Live the Heartbreakers 🎸
My favorite episode of the collection series. Mike Campbell is chill and totally unpretentious-the best kind of artist, the kind of person you would love to just hang out with and jam. He loves the guitars for their sound and aesthetics…he is not especially interested in the details/specs as much as his deep love of music that pours out of these gorgeous creatures in his hands. I am now watching this episode the third time.
Cool show. Humble & likable fella. He deserves loads more credit than he gets. I dig the fact that he's more into the sound & look than the value, collectability, & prestige of the instruments he owns.
Mr. Campbell is getting great recognition but is STILL under rated…..Kudos to Gibson TV for not only showing the Gibson’s but the Fenders, Gretchen, etc…..Very well done….I’m going through my collection, this weekend, because of this….
Mike….Mike……just the best. I’ve known you since the mid 70’s as a little kid watching Don Kirshner way past my bedtime. You always had the best economic groovy parts. That is a rare gift and you always sound great.
This was FANTASTIC! I’m a Gibson Junkie, but this was so refreshing to include all of the other guitars that Mike owns, and plays, CLASSY! Still can’t get enough of Mike Campbell and “Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers🙏”. Well done MARK!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
These shows are amazing to watch. Mark Agnesi is the PERFECT person for this. His enthusiasm, INSAIN eye for detail and immense knowledge make him entertaining as hell as a host.
This is one of the best episodes yet, up there with Brian Ray! Mike Campbell is a cool and humble dude, some of those deals on those guitars, fantastic!
I would love the opportunity to spend one afternoon in his studio. How inspiring would it be to have access to all those beautiful guitars that are so rich with history? That's gotta be what heaven looks like!
I took my 14yo son to see the Knobs in Ventura a few weeks ago. Mike's not kidding when he says they're having fun-It was an awesome show!! And yeah, that white guitar...it's a looker on stage. Definitely caused quite a stir when they all pulled out white guitars! Bonus: Stan Lynch was on drums and for the last encore, he and Mike stood side by side and sang Listen to the Stories We Could Tell. Unforgettable night❤
You can tell how good of friends Tom Petty & him were cause good friends start to sound like each other with sayings & way of talking. What a cool suprise this was! Mike probably can't tell either. Great episode!
Wow these Collection by Gibson videos are killing me. I lost my guitars and amps after I lost my job during Covid and battled severe depression and finally start a new job Monday morning. Please pray for me as I need all the support I can get to make sure I stick with this job. Once I get caught up on bills I can’t wait to be able to have a guitar to play again. Then I want to afford at least 1 Gibson. I’ve only owned 4 Gibson guitars. First was a black 2001 Gibson Les Paul Studio with EMG 81/85 pickups which felt and sounded insanely good, a wine red 2010 Gibson Les Paul Studio with gold hardware, a 2019 Gibson SG Tribute and a 2020 Gibson Les Paul Tribute. Every one was an absolute dream to play and I just bonded with them like no other guitar and knew from then on I was a Gibson guy. I don’t know which one I should try to save for maybe a Firebird, a Goldtop Les Paul with p90 would be a dream also love flying V’s, Explorers and SG’s. Man. I can’t wait.
I’m in a very similar boat as you are. Hoping I hear back on some jobs that I’ve been applying too soon. Sold all my guitars, but I’ll be back soon. Best of luck to you!!!
I could hang for a whole day with Mike and enjoy every minute of talking guitars and playing music 🎼 with him. What a cool guy. And ya I get it about the "legends or stars" etc... At the end of the day they are just people who love the same thing we all do. Music. I've recorded with lots of great people. Some famous, some not famous but definitely should be because they are just as great. In the meantime I'm doing the same going to pawn shops and garage sales hoping to find that one 59 Les Paul that's still out there 😜😎👍💯
Very very cool video. Thx. Don't think I've clicked on one of these previously ... but it was Mike Campbell. Watched all the way through and enjoyed every minute. Thx again.
Mike Campbell's, such a great person wonderful video from one of the Heartbreakers. He was so relaxed and honest about sharing all the history... This will be one of my U tube video I'll enjoy for years. Vary nice guitar collections the man has... Best to you Mike for ever and Gods Speed. Thanks Gibson TV Randy - Great North Woods Of Michigan
Good comparison. Mike and Keith are both great musicians - They serve the song and tailor their tone to that rather than merely adapting. Specific to Mike, he is so good at that you can hear a great song, love the guitar parts, and only find out years later that it was all him. Which may be why he gets overlooked.
A great guitarist with a unique sound. I always know his guitar licks when I hear them. I was lucky enough to see Mike with Tom Petty at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens New York in August 2017. It was an awesome show.
This is the best thing I've seen in a long time! It's so good to see a seasoned pro still so innocent about how he picks guitars... it doesn't matter if you have an expensive guitar or not.. Just listen to what that instrument is telling you while it's in your hands! Makes me want get back into a band and play just for the love of it again. M.C 🙏
What a fantastic and fascinating episode, Mike has so many brilliant guitars and the stories to go with them !!, the new Dirty Knobs album is incredible, such a fun watch 😄
I really enjoyed this Mike is such a good guy, I like how he doesn't know everything about his guitar s just why he likes them. He sure knows how to play them!!
Nice to see a guy like Mike get some love. I often cite Malcolm Young as my favorite, but I’d sell a leg to be able to play the way Mike does. And his collection is almost note for note my lifelong wishlist. Great episode, more like this👍
Million dollars worth of guitars in the first 30minutes and he could care less. They just look cool and sound cool to him. Mike is that dude and you gotta love that about him

Both of their albums are good heart and soul rock and roll baby! He’s interesting to listen to. Really cool, thx!
Simply only the best Guitar Verturosose like Mr. Campbell really know how to bring the best of these classic master pieces. Long Live the Heartbreakers 🎸
He even sounds like Tom , not to mention The Traveling Wilburys ... Mark always nails these gatherings !
Mike bringing down the glasses to look you in the eyes at the end was great!
This is the best collection video so far. I’m so glad Mike was willing to share his guitars and stories. I wish it was longer!
THE guitar clinic. Excellent!!! Mike Campbell is such a cool guy. Interview very well done. Thank you.
Mike….Mike……just the best. I’ve known you since the mid 70’s as a little kid watching Don Kirshner way past my bedtime. You always had the best economic groovy parts. That is a rare gift and you always sound great.
Absolutely killer! Thanks for letting us in to hang out for a bit!
Love that you were every bit as interested in the other guitar brands as we are to hear their back stories, thanks Mark.
I love how equal attention is given to other brands. Really awesome stuff! So a great resource for guitar history is all types
I don't even play guitar but I can watch and listen to Mike anytime. This is music history right before our eyes.
How Cool, so down to Earth, I think Mike and Tom were closer than brothers
Great job Mark!! Mike is such an awesome dude!
Michael is one of my favorite players , he complimented Tom so well , I love every song they did together !!!
I don't play guitar but enjoy listening to these guys. Mike Campbell has a lifetime of collecting guitars. What a guy, what a life.
Mike Campbell I think your very cool for doing this video because many people love your music and love your guitars! Great show!
The 2 Dirty Knobs albums are INCREDIBLE
I'm so glad this is over an hour I don't want it to end. Thanks for your time!
I'm a big Mike Campbell fan. It's not widely known how much of an influence Mike has/had on the music scene. I am sooo glad he is there!
Could watch this stuff for hours - music AND history!
Yes!!! Another great "collection" episode! Thanks, you guys! This is by far the greatest guitar channel on RUclips!!!
Thanks for watching!!!
You can tell how good of friends Tom Petty & him were cause good friends start to sound like each other with sayings & way of talking. What a cool suprise this was! Mike probably can't tell either. Great episode!
Wow... This is definitly the best episode. What a great guitarplayer Mike Campbell is, and what a collection...
A wonderful segment!!! Mike Campbell is world class!!!
A guitarist’s guitarist. Thanks, Gibson!!
Thank You so much, I enjoyed every minute !!
Thanks Gibson TV
Randy - Great North Woods Of Michigan
I'll know what to watch tonight..Thank you! My favorite Series!❤️❤️
Most underappreciated guitarist ever!!! I'm so blessed to see him and Tom petty in 2008 August at the gorge in George WA
Mike is so overlooked its criminal...I lump him into the guitarists' guitarists group...the same group as Keith Scott...great stuff Mike!!
Good comparison. Mike and Keith are both great musicians - They serve the song and tailor their tone to that rather than merely adapting. Specific to Mike, he is so good at that you can hear a great song, love the guitar parts, and only find out years later that it was all him. Which may be why he gets overlooked.
@@kevinjohnbetts I'm sure of it...cheers.
Probably the most underrated guitar player. Mike Campbell's playing is so smooth, beautiful and soulful.
Great segment,
I love how Mike is as much a humble rockstar as well as a fan of music. Just a great guy. Great job with the interview Mark. 🎶
The best interview - love love love Mike
This one was particularly interesting and great!! Thanks mark thanks Gibson!!
Some of the best Television that you'll find on RUclips is right here. (I don't have a Gibson guitar, but I appreciate these videos and the company).
Nice! Now I’ve got something to watch tonight. Mike is the man.
A great guitarist with a unique sound. I always know his guitar licks when I hear them. I was lucky enough to see Mike with Tom Petty at Forest Hills Stadium in Queens New York in August 2017. It was an awesome show.
Thank you thank you thank you! I was hoping to see Mike’s collection.
I could listen to Mike talk for hours man I love his voice.
M.C 🙏
Get out there! Do it. Life is too short not to. 😊
Great video! Tom lives on through the music and Mike Campbell! Love.....
What a fantastic and fascinating episode, Mike has so many brilliant guitars and the stories to go with them !!, the new Dirty Knobs album is incredible, such a fun watch 😄
Mark, thank you for covering ALL the guitars (not just the Gibsons) and for asking all the right questions.
I really enjoyed this Mike is such a good guy, I like how he doesn't know everything about his guitar s just why he likes them. He sure knows how to play them!!
I like the way Mike explains how each guitar has a song inside it, inspiration comes from strumming a string..that's a soulful explanation
What a beautiful collection!
I love that it's all about the memories and good times for Mike. Great interview. Keep it up!
“Yes, even more “, with his glasses down gave me goose bumps , thank you Mr Mike Campbell.
