      If you look at two onboard cameras from this run, and Dom's, Dom is actually about the same or maybe a 1/10th or so off and then in the middle section is actually ahead, but it was the last more technical part of the track and that long straight that he gained over 2 seconds.It's a a sub 7:00 car no doubt a private venture on a shoestring budget 3/10th of a second away from 7:00 at Nuremberg is crazy. I was reading how the drivers were very impressed with the performance.

      You are such an idiot... "Vin russo". Calm down buddy... this fucking cheap car is dead now... lol! This stupid disguised GT3 racecar with new tires from 2017 has surely an advantage over a car that setted the track record like the 918 Spyder (four!!!! years ago), with tires from 2013. Is this so hard to understand... you clown? You can calm down now and admire your actual "heroes"... like your shitty Dodge Demon...lol!
      Listen: nobody here in Europe is interested in your embarrassing American "We are the greatest thing"... you fucking stupid Trump-idiots! The shitty built Dodge Viper is dead now for a good reason! It wasn't simply good enough to convince people. The laughable selling numbers of that thing just told the truth! The best sportscars which are capable on a racetrack like the Nürburgring Norschleife are certainly not built in your country... Mr. vin russo! Greetings from Germany... not so far away from the Nordschleife!
      The next absolute track record holder will be the new 911 GT2RS... That's not such a big secret anymore. And the Porsche will be absolutely streetlegal! The shitty Viper with its ridiculous GT3 racecar aero spec is just unusable on a public road. That has nothing to do with "streetlegal"!

      Don't forget electric power boost that Porsche uses. I think Dom is a great driver, but a smaller lighter driver would have been faster. Dom is a big guy, over 6'0, not to mention after the first run they decided to put a roll bar on for safety. That weighed 70 pounds. so your talking 120 pounds or so more weight, that's huge. If you notice the top speeds between this guy and Dom's runs. Consistently faster on the straights, but if you look at some of the technical parts of the track Dominick is a little ahead, and pulling in to the finish Dom was faster.

    There is no question that the ACR is a sub 7 minute car. If everything goes right (no miss shifts), it would easily land at around 6:55 every time.

    • @cryteeek
      @cryteeek 7 лет назад +51

      The driver who did the 7:01 only had a single hot lap before the tire blew resulting in a wreck. The ACR still has so much more potential. It is a sub 7 minute car without a doubt.

    • @AngelFloyd27
      @AngelFloyd27 7 лет назад +34

      It doesn't work that way, he had a couple of miss shifts, but it's not like in every miss shift the car stops at the exact spot, wait a second, and then continues at the same rate, the car just loses some momentum. He lost maybe 1 second in the entire lap because of that, not six seconds. He missed some apices towards the end of the lap, and that would be another second perhaps. Sub 7 car, could be. 6:55 in the same conditions, unlikely.

    • @alexrex20
      @alexrex20 7 лет назад +21

      the missed gear coming onto the back straight can easily translate into a few seconds by the end of the straight

    • @vinrusso821
      @vinrusso821 7 лет назад +16

      It works many ways. I've put both runs side by side by the second and it shows Dom and the 7:03 was ahead almost the entire first part of the circuit, even the fast middle parts. The last 3 1/2 minutes the 7:01 car gained over 3 seconds. It's silly to say this isn't a sub 7 car. These were Viper lovers who took donations, and two bare boned vipers, and see what it could do. A factory run would be much faster obviously.

    • @kinggoten
      @kinggoten 7 лет назад +7

      +alexrex 20 hardly the miss shift coming onto the back straight hardly costed any time as the car hit its max speed and stayed there for a good 4 seconds, yes add it all up and you would get a sub 7:00 but drivers are humans and human error will always occur on a lap as long as the ring. I'd say the car would do around 6:58 given enough time don't see it going much quicker then that.

    Proving yet again that the Viper, throughout its heritage, is the undisputed apex predator of the enthusiast world.
    Any time set that is faster is either with a full race vehicle, or a specifically track prepped vehicle. There has never been a super car that is capable of what the Viper is off the showroom floor. Furthermore, there has never been one that can do it consistently without falling to pieces after a few hard runs.
    Having had the chance to drive several iterations, I can whole heartedly say there is no more fulfilling experience in the automotive world, for a true enthusiast who loves the very essence of motion. Though my personal favorite is the 1993 RT/10...
    Pure and visceral kinetic poetry, no matter what year or package you choose.
    Hail to the King!

      Keep in mind the acr is the only viper that handle's anywhere near that good. For the most part they are nothing special handling wise. The ACR EXTREME has 2000 pounds of aero. Nobody even offer's a aero package like that from the factory but considering corvette has won le mon 8 times the same aero package on it would be equal to or better than the viper as the corvette chassis has a 50/50 weight ratio. I really do like the viper though. It was strong in the tudor series too

    • @RyanDeClue

      James Avery I’m not surprised to see an idiotic comment like that from someone who’s never driven a Viper and knows nothing about them.

    • @vinrusso821
      @vinrusso821 7 лет назад

      Remember this was a gofundme, all donations. They're goal was 180.000 dollars and got it after months of trying. They would need about 250,000 dollars, get as much track time as possible. I saw 1.7 G's a few times, the Viper pulls 2.00 G's as shown at Laguna seca. i don't think they used the car to it's ability.also Dom is a great driver but he's a big dude, and they put on a roll bar which was 70 more pounds.Top speed it lacked, from the aero.

    • @vinrusso821
      @vinrusso821 7 лет назад +16

      I see many people talking about mi shifts, but that is not the case. Russ and crew only brought so much, 180,000 dollars does not go very far. But the problem with the last car is the transmission was screwed from 2nd to 3rd, and no extra, so they had to go for it. Tires were the biggest problem. They went through 16 sets of tires. That is a long bumpy track in places, and the soft compound tires would be smoking after a warm up lap. Things that happen when it's on a shoe string budget. factory support would have helped. The driver in this video had a 160MPH mash up in the other Viper because of the tires.

    • @vinrusso821

      The whole point of a Viper is the manual. It's a 100% old school beast. Porsche had electric power boost, double clutch automatic. Of course the Viper would put up crazy numbers but it wouldn't be a Viper. You see Corvette have been testing over there all summer, 10 speed auto, horsepower, but still can't catch the viper.

    I feel like Dodge needs to make one more ACR and make it really limited now that the hype for this car is at an all time high. The V10 has plenty of room for more power, but just some lighter parts for the car might really help it out and get a sub 6 minute lap time way easier.

    • @s0meguy809

      It really cant get any lighter. The viper is still sporting a steel chassis that originates from the very first viper ever made. Chrysler was developing an aluminum chassis to replace it but mercedes came in and essentially stole it, made it ugly and slow and called it the SLS amg.

But a V8 sounds like it’s going all out when it’s going all out. A Viper V10 has that bass that screams “GTFO of my way!” It’s deep and intimidating, and it’s one of the few V10’s that LOVES to rev. The Viper will always have a spot in my heart as my favorite in terms of sound.

    It is an accepted fact that the transmission was quite rough and problematic.
    Moving forward this vehicle is a beast on the track.
    And you can drive it on the street.
    I will not go too crazy here LO.L.
    I had a cobra mustang.
    Severely dropped to the ground.
    Every chassis upgraded x 5
    Stage 1, 2, 3 Kenne Belle installed.
    Extra rectangular rails welded
    Brembo 6 piston on all 4 wheels.
    Brake boost / modulation.
    Lower by far than ACR VIPER.
    I Did not have the power or torque of the viper.
    But I could hit corners and ramps as fast or faster than any vehicle at that time.
    Only dude to ever stay close on 275 interstate ramp, was Viper.
    30 mph ramp.
    I was easily about 90 miles per hour.And I waved my hand out my window to tell him to slow down.
    He got a little wiggly back-and-forth.But made it around the ramp and pulled up to me and said what the fuck is going on with your mustang

    So much car to command around that track to begin with, let alone doing it with a manual gearbox.

    It'll be interesting to see if the new ZR1 beats this. I suspect it might since it has 100 hp more and an automatic transmission option, but i doubt it will beat it by much. Congrats to you guys! I believe this is the fastest road legal front engine production car around the ring right now

    • @CodysCarConundrum
      @CodysCarConundrum 6 лет назад

      It'll undoubtedly beat the Viper. While sad, we need to keep in mind that the Viper got that close to a sub 7 minute time on what were essentially warm up laps. GM has the money (ergo the time) to get a few more runs in. Giving them the time advantage Team Viper simply didn't have.
      Unless they do another crowdfunding thing in 2017 (I'm praying they do), we'll never know what the true time of the ACR is.

      in the same conditions, no. but I suspect GM will get the perfect day and beat the viper by a small margin. the ACR just has so much more grip than the corvette that itll definitely get a run for its money

    How to shave 4 to 5 seconds with tiny change:
    Since the competition is using tiptronic shifting the do not need to remove one hand from the steering wheel..
    I can cleerly see a lartger steeri g wheel is needed.
    I can clearly see the wheel and hand shake when shifting.
    The larger wheel will enable finer control during shifts alowing for a gutzier performance from the driver!

    There's still some potential. I think a time around 6:58 would be possible, which would be equal to the time of the Porsche 918 Spyder. Same lap time for a 119.000$ car as a 845.000$ car. It seems like the whole hybrid concept for those hypercars (Porsche 918 Spyder, McLaren P1, La Ferrari) didn't work too well, if they're struggling to beat much cheaper cars. It's just too much extra weight.

  • @thefridgeman

    And what was the time with the "street" legal splitter, not the "install only for track use" splitter? Can't pretend this time to be for "production"/Street legal cars. Because in this configuration it wasn't.

    Inb4 "Kumho tires are so good for the price!" Yeah, sure. But if you're setting lap times on the Nürburbring in a Viper ACR, you can afford some Michelin Cup 2's.

    Just goes to show that manual gearboxes still require skill to be perfect. If the ACR was paddle shifted, it would easily & consistently do sub 7 minute lap times. Very impressive to see such a quick time from a manual car, a great lap from the driver too. Definitely think a sub 7 minute lap would be possible with a perfect lap.

    I would love to have seen the Viper with an 8 speed dual clutch transmission just to see the time difference and a little more top end for those couple straights, I heard they actually had a faster time but blew one or two tires preventing them from trying again?? it's also too bad they are owned by the french who got rid of the Viper instead of marketing it to compete with the Corvette

    Dang! almost in the 6's! those long straights are where the viper loses to the super-cars. The viper with all the downforce can only go around 170'ish, where the others obviously can hit 200 in a straight like these.
