and way worse drivers, every one of them think they are pro racing, or that its a drift track... Should just be a general rule to disallow all BMWs on the ring.... =P
One thing that always amazes me about the 'Ring, is the huge disparity in performance, and another is the huge disparity in driver skill. Some of these people are so good, it's incredible. And some are so bad ~ And some are so lucky, it's obscene!
The thing is I bet the majority of these cars are on street tires. It’s a racetrack! They should have some sticky 200tw tires and upgraded pads, lines, fluid, and rotors at the least. If not a big brake kit. But at the end skill and whether you’ve done other track days will show. From what I’ve seen though, you can drive up to the ring for a lunch time lap. So not everyone will be going in with the ideal setup.
3:37 - If you go beyond recovery like that there is one last resort to save your car (only works when you do NOT have ABS): floor the brake pedal as hard as you absolutely can, to lock all four wheels. If you're lucky and don't do it too early or too late, ar you have a very good feell consciously hit the moment the G force is towards the road, the car whill slide all four wheels along the road and stay the untill stop, granted you keep the brake floored.
Yes but you should have track day insurance if it’s not already required there. Company’s can insure your vehicle for the day based on the amount you want to insure it for and you essentially would be obligated to use that money to pay for the track repair fees and rest goes to the vehicle if you wish. Not sure how it’s handled if you rent a car for the ring
Yes, quite handsomely so. It's at least 70€ per meter of barrier and per layer. If they replace 5m of two levels of barrier, you're 700€ in the red. With recovery, cleaning up liquids and the damage to the car...yeah just be careful
The BMWs are the European equivalent to the American Ford Mustang. Both have a lot of power, both can be very loud, both can be seen more often going sideways than in a straight line! Some of them are really talented, it's not easy to control a fast rear-wheel-driven vehicle. However, sometimes the stereotype appears to be true.
As an ex BMW driver, I will take the not signalling stereotype, I'll take the being a prick stereotype... but I will not take being associated with people that smash into crowds and poles... Save that for the mustangs, they've earned it
High power may be a difficulty if Traction Control is off. But rear wheel drive cars are generally easier to control once they go sideways. More equal weight distribution means they react more gently, giving more time to react. The issue with Mustang is that it's high power in most cases combined with Panhard rod-supported live axle (geometry twisting left and right at all times), and an automatic. It's naturally unstable on acceleration but what killes most guys trying to show off is that instead of locking automatic on 1, they do it on D, and once 2nd gear kicks in the car jettisons towards the nearest lamppost, at this point, impossible to recover. With BMW the issue is only high power and strange attraction of all nuts. In any country they are infamous for not using linkers, and I don't know which is worse; a nut drifting in open (and dense!) traffic, or a girl in BMW SUV tailgating you on motorway while texting. I won't count how many times German car drivers almost PIT-manuvered me or changed lanes so fast I had to brake in order not-to PIT manuver them. In any case, new BMW drivers are the best proof, that high income has nothing to do with intelligence.
Place to avoid, but at least it keeps a few zero talent, incompetent wannabee racing drivers off the road for a bit. I feel sorry for the cars treated with so little mechanical sympathy.
Car crash videos are intense and eye-opening. It's shocking to see how quickly things can go wrong on the road. These clips remind us to always stay cautious and aware while driving because one mistake can have serious consequences. Stay safe!
@6:15 - guy took it literally to drive the car until the wheels fall off. And then, was he oblivious to the fact that that his wheel came off? Or just didn't care?
It's a rental with random drivers. From what I could see on the bumps, the rear suspension is significantly softer than the front. It's an old-school rear wheel drive rally setup, that maximises traction on acceleration and prevents unprovoked oversteer making it easier to drive. I would set ring rental car like this, and as I mentioned, rear wheel drive rally cars were set like this in the past. Drivers could provoke oversteer with high speed throw or scandinavian flick, but the car was more predictable and easier to control. Even top drivers like Ari Vatanen used this setup. Some, like Jimmy McRae went even further and used '3-wheelr setup' in Vauxhall Chevette. Entire Toyota team used '3-wheeler' for rally Celica RA40 when it rained. I don't think hard front-soft rear is used in professional track racing though. It definitely could have saved some crashed BMWs from this video.

Question does one have to pay for repair the barriers if they crash onto it?
As far as I know you should have at least 10k disposable cash if you plan to crash into a barrier and be recovered.

The G80 M3 is actually a very good looking saloon car. Along with F90 M5 Comp LCI. It all went downhill for BMW styling wise after these two.
