The best drummer ever IMO. The poly rhythms are mind bending. You can’t count the beat but you know it’s there.

      @asparagusdaiquiri6434 2 года назад +1

I totally agree with the first part of your comment, but I would say for the exact opposite reason! He DOES make the beat very easy to count and brings order to the guitar and bass. He is insanely good and I feel it's why I like him so much. He does very complicated beata but makes it easy to listen and understand them. Does it make sense?

He is awesome, but he takes the. Idea of making complex beats accessible from the greatest 2 drummers ever, Bill Bruford and Billy Cobham.

Ænema, Fourty Six & 2, Vicarious, Sober, The Grudge, Pushit, and Lateralus are all top notch Tool songs. That is to say, all Tool songs are top notch songs and those are some of their best. Each and every member of tool is a musical genius in their own right and they work masterfully together to create some of the most incredible sounds your ears will ever experience. The reason it's hard to keep up with them when trying to head bop is because they regularly change the time signature of a song flawlessly and seamlessly multiple times in their songs.

Best way to bob to Tool is to find your personal groove within the song and just go with that. You may not line up with every snare hit et. al., but it surprisingly works. Just as Danny's polys come together to form a cohesive whole, so can your own groove match up at key moments. At Tool shows, you'll routinely see people right next to one another bobbing "out of sync", but each one works within the song.
Edit: I've been listening to Tool since '94, and it only now dawned on me that my two favorite songs by them climax with Maynard screaming the exact same word. How do they keep doing this after so many years?

Songs to be played together, as 1 continuous track:
    10,000 days part 1 & 2 (Wings for Marie)
Disposition, Reflection & Triad (commonly called The Holy Trinity)
Lost Keys & Rosetta Stoned (prepare for some crazy shit)
Parabol & Parabola (edit - I left this one off for some reason)

Glad to see you’re enjoying Tool! You also seem to lean more heavy, to which I recommend The Grudge and Vicarious.
Regarding Pneuma [new-ma], definitely check out both the live drum cam version (which you mentioned) along with the studio version. If you like Pneuma, Lateralus and Parabol/Parabola are in the same vein (psychedelic and very deep - nice heavy elements as well).

If you want more drums watch Danny Carrey Pnuema (pronounced new-muh) drum cam. My favorite song is 46 and 2. The original and also you've got to check out the kids cover. So freaking epic. I started my Tool journey in 1995. They have never disappointed me with their music. Even after a 13 year wait before their latest album. It was an absolute masterpiece.

Seriously though, collegiate jokes aside... you can go through the discography and literally see/hear their progression as both musicians and human beings. My strongest suggestion is to take recommended songs from them by album. Start on the Opiate E.P. and work your way forward by suggestion. The growth is remarkable and none of the music will disappoint.

@@Jigsaw0g Excellent! I'm glad your going that route. Tool is a progressive experience. As such, one should take it in order. "Sweat" is a good song. From that release, "Jerk-Off" and "Opiate" are my personal preferences. If, by chance, you do react to "Opiate", follow it up with the reimagined release, Opiate2. The do a great job, in my opinion, of keeping the old vibe alive and add their modern twist on it.

    Try Vicarious next..
Thats a more compact track. You are already into them, and you liked Schism, so you could try Lateralus

Typical reaction to the first 30 seconds of The Pot: Confusion, Stunned Awe, then total surrender. Yup

funny how you say it's more "controlled"... that's exactly how i see the 10,000 days album... it's not my favorite, i get why people like it... but it's too controlled, for me... feels like it is over produced, and like the whole album was made with the same formula...
peak tool for me is disposition into reflection on the lateralus album... doesn't hit hard, but it's so beautifully made...
