In case no one else mentioned this, I read somewhere that this song was partly inspired by a conservative judge who was famously tough on marijuana offenders and ended up getting busted for heroin, so “you must have been so high” is addressed to him. I love the last line of the song, “ganja? PLEASE, you must have been out your mind.”

No Hiatus, it's took them that long to make the album. They are meticulous. That reverse echo was no mistake left in.
After playing over 200 concerts from 2006 to 2007, Tool essentially went on hiatus in 2008, performing zero shows and beginning a decade of minimal touring. So no they did not use 13 years on Fear

The reverse echo is a phenomenon that happens when tracking to analog tape, the play head is actually hearing the track through the earlier layer of tape as it unwinds.

Tool is my all time favorite band - this is one of their most accessible songs (easiest to catch the beat) - when it comes to odd meters/time signatures, there are quite a few crazy choices. I hope you all dive further into the Tool rabbit hole and keep representing the Big Blue Nation! Cheers!

I've been a fan since "Intolerance" and I am so glad that I have been lucky enough to live in the time of Tool and to have loved them and been taught by them since the 90's. Best thing about this react vid, is that you were all nodding out of time with each other, but all nodding in time with ONE of Danny Carey's beats.
10:39 heads are still - 10:40 It's almost perfect how the three of them nod to that beat. Tool draw you in, they want you to listen, to find the synergy and suddenly you're all wrong again. It's Tool, it's unsettling, it's not a beat, a pattern not even a 1 on the count of.... it's a journey.
That one part is actually a bass solo, not guitar. It reminds me of the first part in For Whom The Bell Tolls when you think it's a guitar but it's actually the amazing bassist.
If you don't do more TOOL songs the TOOL army will come for you. Songs Sober, Rosetta stoned, H, 46and 2 etc.... Do it DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

The lead singer was also busy with his 2 other bands, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer!
He could be talking about that, but I interpreted the song as him using the title "the pot" from the common saying the pot calling the kettle black, based on hypocrisy. I've seen as well that it most likely is calling led zeppelin hypocrites for some of their past, I'd really recommend looking into it, there are so many references to them that it almost unequivocally has to be about that.
I'm not sure. That seems like it would be kind of weird considering they played a cover of no quarter by led zeppelin, and it was on salival I believe, a live track. Which would mean they played it live at some point (I'm honestly not sure how many times). I had the impression that a band covering another bands song is usually taken as them paying homage to the band they're covering. Especially if they play it at their own shows.
