The start for them. I always say, once you are hooked, it's great to go back to the first album and move forward. There's a 30-year progression across 5 studio albums with special inserts the Tool Army will direct you to. It's the best experience and the Tool Army will assemble. Spiral out. Keep going! 🌀🌀🌀

Pointers to consider: do some reading about them. They are each an enigma unto themselves. By two more songs you will be calling them by first name. There are very few decent live videos of them. The Army suggests the best "pairing" as many are two songs that go together. Your ear can jump from instrument to instrument as you described. It's good to know then that Adam (guitar), Danny (drums) and Justin (bass) compose a song and perfect it before passing it to Maynard who weaves his genius lyrics and vocals around the music; not to it or with it. Lastly, always have lyrics up. Maynard is a poet laureate, IMO. EXCITED for you. I'm an all genre music history and theory nerd. Tool is at the top of my musical Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs 😄

You will know what I mean the deeper you get into them. They have some extremely unique music, and to this day there isn't a single band that sounds like them. They are all just so good at what they do, and I definitely recommend reading the lyrics before or after the vids, you will be impressed. He is one of the best lyric and melody writers I have ever heard

that's it, they are *all* a part of it, they are all SO good - the drummer gets a ton of well earned love, the vocalist obviously - but that bassist is insaaane, and the guitarist just deliiivers the hardest riffs, knows exactly when to draw them into insane feedback noise - they're all so good! It's one of the reasons the vocalist is a little bit lower in volume than most rock bands - he blends with the instruments, in a sense. once you get to know their vibe, you begin to learn how to bob your head also, theyr rythms are often complex, but you learn them - then you get right into them

Highly recommend: The Grudge, 46 & 2 and Parabol/Parabola (they were separate tracks for the album but they are really one track) if you want some stuff where they really stretch their art: Third Eye, Lateralus, and Lost keys/Rosetta Stoned I recommend for all of these tracks to at least have the lyrics available to check out (after you listen) I feel Tool is best experienced first then go back and delve into it.
