"Progressive metal" is the most common description, but you might as well consider Tool as their own genre because there's really nobody else like them. You're in for quite a ride!
I wouldn't necessarily consider it "progressive rock" but more of a "real world and life issue rock" lol simply because Tools music doesn't target just one group, but is pretty wide ranged. Whereas Rage Against The Machines would probably better fit "progressive rock"
@@USMC-Goforth "Progressive" refers to experimentation with musical writing conventions in this case. Jinjer, Periphery, and Animals as Leaders are also bands that could have this genre label applied to them (you may know some of these names already, actually). Some of their lyrics have similar interpretations to RATM, similar topics and all that.

Just saw them in concert 2 weeks ago for the first time but have been listening since 1993 as a teenager. Even better than you can imagine. They had just changed up their set list but still got to hear POT!!
Tool is in a class by themselves. You have to watch their live video of "Sober"...Maynerd plays a bells paulsey patient, talk about method acting!... Love ur reactions!
TOOL is Metal done so well that it's not even Metal anymore. It's like the Metal equivalent of those 3D chess boards, where it's technically "chess", but you play on a three-tiered, acrylic board that you can see through.

Well, to be honest, this is actually shorter than average by Tool standards. Many of their songs are 8, 9, 10 minutes and beyond. All six vocal tracks on their latest album are over 10 minutes and, if anything, they're not long enough! Great stuff!

I subscribed because I love your first Tool reaction. They are the best ever. Get a blindfold, a dart, and toss at a wall of Tool songs and you will hit a masterpiece. Just stick with the studio tracks for now and the lyrics pulled up on your phone and it will be a ride! I say try a brand new song of theirs and then one from each era or just start from the first ever EP. But for now try "Pneuma or Invincible" Those are the most recent and sophisticated.

They use odd time signatures so it's very hard to catch the beat or rhythm. Try out Vicarious, Forty Six & 2, Schism, Lateralus, Parabol/Parabola. You might want to do lyric videos with Tool. Very deep lyrics on most of their songs.
It sux that most of the lyrics vids have been removed. There were some really beautiful fan made lyric vids too. But...as long as he stays away from the Adams official vids...he shouldn't be creeped out too much. 😛🌀
As responsible adults of the TOOL army, we should warn the new recruits of what lies ahead. Instead we gather around the rabbit hole watching, as they ponder embarking upon such a journey. I’ve been a part of the Tool Army since the 90’s! Some recommendations: The Patient, Invincible, Parabol/Parabola(both songs together), Right in Two, Third Eye, Sober, Prison Sex, and on! Maynard would be pissed if you try to put them in a genre!! Also he hates the title lead singer, he prefers vocalist because his voice is an instrument in itself. Enjoy your journey my friend 👍!

the first time you try to follow a Tool rhythm, it's like fighting the bosses in games that split into several illusions and you have to try and figure out which one is the real one, but to make it crazier, the boss shape shifts at random and you are both constantly teleported to new locations with different layouts over and over

Wow a tool reaction video that doesn't suck and have way too much talking. Tool is an experience. Subbed and notification gang for tool. Highly recommend anything off of Ænima or Fear Inoculum (beware filler tracks on both albums) and there latest album isn't the best received but it's one of my personal favorites by them and will always have a soft spot in my heart.

Have listened to TOOL over the years. Until I just saw them........interesting concert. Lights, drums are beyond amazing. No cheerleader type front man. Just great music. Nasty groove in this. Danny....

Colloquially known as the most underrated band of this generation. There is no bad album and almost every song is amazing once you understand their background. All 4 members are masters of their instruments(Danny "the Octopus" Carey just played guitar in concert recently and he's the drummer). They use polyrhythmic tempos, meter changes, complex guitar techniques, deep metaphysical and metaphorical lyrics, long intros, and combine philosophical and mathematical principles of music theory that originated all the way back in ancient Greece(Plato and Pythagoras beliefs on sound frequencies and harmonies to evoke spiritual connection to the fabric of the universe or something like that, as in Hindu and Buddhist chanting/throat singing similar to a didgeridoo). Enjoy the rabbit hole and ride the spiral to the end.

I think this song is about the hypocrisy of a certain band saying tool ripped off other artists, especially when the ones making that accusation were so guilty of ripping of black artists they were "eyeballs deep in Muddy Waters", Muddy Waters being one of the greats
