When Jon Stewart brought Marketa Irglova back out to speak, I thought that was one of the classiest things to have ever happened at the Oscars for as long as I've watched them. Great song, great performance, and a richly deserved win.
So glad you mentioned that. It was such pure class!

John Stewart showed a lot of guts and heart by doing that.
He was a totally stand-up guy. She was played off the stage and he did the right thing by righting that wrong.

I believe Marketa's speech is one of the best acceptance speeches ever on the Academy Awards. Apropos and touching. And fair play to Jon Stewart... what a great gesture. A highlight moment for this award show.

Marketa is still doing music, she is a proud mom of 3 living in Iceland. I watched interview with her, she is still so humbled and nice.
Marketa gave one of the best speeches ever for an Oscar winner, brilliant!
Marketa actually said in an interview that all she wanted to say was "Thank you" and that it was a big misunderstanding, but that she was so caught up in the moment that she just thought about how she felt and gave one on the spot.
From a 19 year old and still one of the most beautiful speeches in oscar in 30seconds ..!

I was fortunate enough to discover this movie during a time in my life where I truly needed inspiration in any form. I got that inspiration from the pure driven music in "Once", and I have to say seeing these two get honored on such a big, albeit manufactured stage is incredible. Simply the greatest oscar moment I have ever witnessed. Glen was nervous but genuine, and marketa was simply stunning in her grace and appreciation.
I love Glen Hansard’s energy, heart and soul. He is a lovely person. “Falling Slowly” with Marketa Irglova together with Glen Hansard is everything. I saw this live and it was the best Oscar moment.
These guys totally stole the show that night, and this was a pretty great oscars show. Would love it if someone put up footage of their performance that night, they were just sublime.
Rude that they played her off, but decent of them to bring her out after. Whoever is on that "play them off" timer needs to pay attention and develop a sense of consideration.

I love Viggo mortensens stare at the end he's a poet himself and i'm sure Marketa's words deeply moved him.
Poor Marketa.. I'm already heart broken when she stand up and had no one to hug.. and then they cut off her speech! Those bastards.
I felt that Marketa should got more support then Glen because it was a team effort, not the opposite. Other than that, I believe that was the best speech ever for Marketa that really made celebrities listen and applaud more. Character is how you treat those who can do nothing for you, The only person that can do something for you is the man up above because he's makes the call in life.

I can't even think about the movie "Once" without crying. Probably the most beautiful love story ever told and totally 100% real.
Props to Jon Stewart for giving Irglova the time to give a speech. No way would the Academy let something like that happen today, especially with how obsessed they are with the timing of the show now.

One of my favorite Academy Award moments of the past decade. That Oscar recognized the entire production of "Once", really one of the best love stories ever put on celluloid.

First time seeing this. I yelled out in pain when they cut her off!
The mic or the orchestra conductor? I seriously can't believe they cut her mic off either, that is really ridiculous. At least in the conductor's defense, though, the orchestra stops playing after the first few notes, so they did try to correct themselves and give her a little more time, but she had already walked away by then.
That was just horrid. Poor thing was probably mortified.

This win, the award, these acceptance speeches, Stewart bringing her back out...are all some good Oscar moments.

Any time I get fed up with all the depressing news and jerks in this world, I watch this clip to remind myself of the goodness that still exists. A great movie, beautiful song, such appreciation from the winners and a class act from Jon Stewart! TANKS!
I've known Glen since about 2000, and he's as nice, and genuine a guy as he was on stage. Fair play to the both of them.

I can't believe I just discovered this absolute jewel of a movie. Absolutely loved it. It gives me hope that you can still find *real* quality movies out there. I'll keep searching and hope some day I come across another film that I enjoy as much.

I'm so glad that they let her come back out and say her thank you. Too many people in the minor categories get rushed off stage too soon. Just finished watching the film the song truly moves you.
I am so proud to be czech just like her! She is so amazing and with Glen they made a beautiful couple too (also the wrote a perfect song together)! Thank you Markéta and Glen, for winning it for us, we all are very proud!

I've been a big fan of Glen Hansard's band the Frames since before Once and was in awe of this win! Thinking how big Once has gotten since with the musical is crazy. Back then, they were still no bodies who made a very cheap and very beautiful movie. This speech still makes me smile!
I think it's a shame how Marketa didn't get to say anything, and when she tried the mike was turned off.

It was shot in my Home Town of Dublin. You should check out The Commitments - Glen is in that one too. It's a classic!!

What a beautiful, gracious, humble, talented, secure young woman.
Whenever I feel saddened by the state of the world - I watch this clip - and these two beautiful Full- souled artists, not to mention the heroic, inspiring and world changing Jon Stewart remind me of the good and the virtue and the beauty in this world - an I'm human beings - that is worth fighting for. "Fair play to those who dare to dream. Hope, at the end of the day connects us all." What a deeply authentic person she is - and what a poised and poignant message for her to use her moment to send into the world. I will never be finished watching this video. Sheer human goodness.

The whole sequence with Jon Stewart and Marketa Irglova's speech was probably the most touching and classiest moment I have seen in award ceremonies.
I'm crying watching this! absolutely in love with Glen and the Frames, such an amazing songwriter and Marketa was just the perfect woman to accompany him through all of this what a sweetheart.

@@MissAudreyy Are we watching the same clip? First, "the gentlemen" ignores the lady (Marketa Irglova, coauthor of the song) when Travolta announces the winners. He ignores her and embraces a lady sitting by. Then he takes over the mic, does not mention Irglova again, takes all the time to thanks all the neighbours and finally when Irglova is supposed to take over the mic, the time is over. Luckily, the host (Jon Steward) acknowledges that by giving to her a chance to say a few words at the end. Nice that he spoke a bit of Irish to begin with, not many Irish Actors do that. For non Irish speakers he said "Go raibh míle maith agaibh". The equivalent in English is "Thanks very much" or "Thanks a million", but directly translated means "May you have a thousand goods things". I actually think he said míle twice which would mean a thousand, thousand. Adding míle to a thank you is like saying thank you very much instead of just thank you.

+GreenLightMe - I was hoping that it would be nominated for best foreign film. It was only later that I realized best foreign film actually meant best foreign language film. They would have had to do it in Gaelic to qualify. I really do think ONCE could qualify as a musical. Although I think of it as a music film, rather than a musical. It's a subtle difference, but that's the way I view it. Best wishes, Ted

It's amazing because this is one of the few times I have seen actors receiving awards for films that really are a part of them rather than a job or a character.
It is good that they gave her the time and she carried herself well.
2017 and I just watched the movie for the first time. What a brilliant film, I really loved it. Plus the music is just amazing

that's the shortest, most straightforward speech at the end...but so so meaningful and touching...

to be fair they didn't purposefully cut her which is obvious from the immediate timing, however good play to Stewart for giving the lady her moment. Absolutely wonderful film which proves heart and inspiration>any kind of money special effects could buy.

I watch that oscar moment when Glen spoke and she didn't and I said to myself that I hope Jon Stewart brings her back so she can say her speech which would be the right thing to do. He did when she told her "Enjoy Your Moment." And I was in tears saying to myself, "That's Priceless/Class Act You Don't See Often In Our Society." We need more stand up people like him.☺.
What a wonderful moment - the best I've seen at the Oscars in years - three cheers for independent musicians indeed, and how great was it that they won against the Disney factory! I enjoyed "Enchanted" with my kids, but "Once" was a little gem, and both Glen and Marketa made the film. Anybody notice the Irish lilt in her English? I was so pleased to see her return to speak, and inspired by her eloquence. As for Glen, first time I've seen an Irishman speechless!
