Just rewatched this movie again. It truly is an underrated masterpiece. I know people give it high praise, but I think everyone should see this movie. A beautiful moment can happen in life even if its only once.
I got to see Mr Hansard, once. In a small, magical old theater. It really was the perfect setting. And although it was a small crowd, he still POURED HIS HEART into every song, just like in the movie. It was a special night, one I'll never forget. Go see him, buy his music.
I have seen videos of them in bookstores. The size of the venue is irrelevant to them because the amount of heart they put into their music and writing was just incredible and honestly can only be fully appreciated up close and personal.
Incidentally (if you don't already know, that is), he was close friends with Jeff Buckley back in their Greenwich Village busking and coffee shop-playing days before either of them got discovered.
Correction: Glen was on a promotional tour in the U.S. for the movie The Commitments (in which he appeared) when he met Buckley -- who was working as an instrument tech at the time. The pair became fast friends while on this promotional tour together and eventually found their way to Greenwich Village at the now-defunct Irish pub, Sine... (listen to this interview of Glen for the rest -- includes a song dedicated to Jeff at the end): ruclips.net/video/NNraYinI4bA/видео.html&feature=shares
I saw him in DC at a nice small balcony theater! I think in 2018. I forget lol but it was so amazing! The man is so real, so talented and so nice and humble! I was blown away. Went by myself. Lol i booked tickets after i watched once lol the best movie I’ve ever seen by chance lol
Glen Hansard is a great musician and a super cool human. Hearing him say that he isn't an actor when he was wonderful in Once and The Commitments is the epitome of a humble person. It makes me feel good to know there are people like him in this world. Peace.
This is such an amazing movie. From the story. To the acting. To the way it was shot. To the music. All around fantastic. If you’re a musician it will hit you especially.
The movie is on my top10 (if not my top5) and that's that. But, what I really love about this guy, is that he is such a sweet human. The way he speaks about Marketa, and from other videos I've seen, how he cherishes her, how he talks about his music, about his carreer, so humble. And don't forget he won an Oscar....
he is the heart of the film. when I watched the film for the first time which was very quiet recent, I was like, I want to be as good an actor as him. such earnestness that shines through and through!
I bought this movie and so stoked I did - i cant even remember where i first saw it - This and August rush are my favourite movies - I love Glens music
I love going to Waltons whenever I'm in Dublin for college! Fun fact, they had to stop people playing the pianos on display only because employees were sick and tired of hearing 'Falling Slowly'.
hootenanee29 I visited Walton’s in 2016 during St. Patrick Day weekend. Sad it’s no longer there. Wonderful shop. Wonderful film. Academy Award winning song.
I just watched this film after my love suggested it to me for the second or third time and ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT! Thank you so much for sharing this interview. Glen Hansard's story that is similar to the storyline is captivating. I have been moved with so much emotion and picked up my pen to write and dusted off my keys to play. The inspiration is real. Thank you for this!💝
How sad I missed watching this movie for years..LOVED IT ,too much emotions.. amazing story and the characters both Glen and Marketa were so good and made me feel it's just true not just a movie..I hurt so much at the end of movie because they don't ended to admit love and did not stayed together !
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! This touches my heart so profoundly! This Movie lays in my heart as one of the most touching and real movies in my life! It has left such a huge mark on me that I listened to the album over and over and ready to watch the movie again for I can't count how many times. It is hard for me to watch. It pulls every emotion out of me.
I am so glad to see this comment. I want to say that I feel the same way about the film. It feels great to say so many of us share the same feelings about one piece of art.
I have seen this movie 6 years ago and been one of my favorite.. it’s 2019 and I watched it again.. and still Inlove with it. Glen is really one of my favorite.
I saw him last year in a small church-like venue and he opened the set by standing at the front of the stage, no mic, and played Say It To Me Now. Not a dry eye in the audience when he finished.
I still remember reading the movie review from my local newspaper, just a weird thing to remember considering I saw the movie only until 7-8 years later.
I just found that the budget of this film is less than 2 lakh euros. Shows why the cameras shake so much and in general the whole movie seems so cheap, but the story is beautiful
To each their own. As I think it's one of the best films I've ever seen. My sister and I were truly captivated. As for the handheld comment. As I heard it after they lost Killien (sp) they lost their funding too. Determined to still do the movie with 1/10th of the funds they had they shot it on 2 Sony HandyCams in the streets of Dublin.
That wasn't the way the movie was intended to be shot. But they lost their funding after Cillian dropped out. After scrounging up what funds they could the movie was shot with a couple of Sony HandyCams, I believe. Maybe you missed that detail. Either way it may not have been your cup of tea. But Glen connected with so many of us despite the filming.
What an amazing story. And yes, that scene in the music store when they first play "Falling Slowly" is the closest a non-musician will get to experiencing that feeling you get when you first discover and create a real song (as opposed to cool riffs of fills - which is also pretty cool :)

"It is what it is.. I mean was what it was" That's a sad sentence.

"Once" is such a lovely, beautiful movie, and the music is just magical. SO happy for everyone involved.

luckily i saw this movie just at the right time in my life to change it forever straight up.

Gotta see INTO THE WILD movie. You'll die. SOMEWHERE IN TIME is also one of my fave movies of all time.
It’s definitely in my top 5. Its such a genuine movie.
Still one of my all-time favorite films. Utterly brilliant and inspiring.
I had no idea that Glen wasn't the original choice to play the lead. Such a beautiful film and so happy to see them win the Oscar for Best Song.
he is the heart of the film. when I watched the film for the first time which was very quiet recent, I was like, I want to be as good an actor as him. such earnestness that shines through and through!
so happy he played the role. :) i love the music. it stayes with you.
I bought this movie and so stoked I did - i cant even remember where i first saw it - This and August rush are my favourite movies - I love Glens music
I feel like Glen looks so heartbroken when speaking about Marketa 2:03
I'm so sad about it, they didn't make it finally : (
Really great, guys… a true gem of a film.
They connected with each other in the movie, and audience connected with them via the movie...one of my favorites
I went to THAT shop when I visited Ireland because of the movie, but I didn't buy the piano XD
+laukaz02 I'll leave that to Glen and Mar :)
Same here! Cool place, looks totally different now though.
I love going to Waltons whenever I'm in Dublin for college! Fun fact, they had to stop people playing the pianos on display only because employees were sick and tired of hearing 'Falling Slowly'.
Sadly Waltons is gone now, it closed down about a year ago.

Smalltown Wireless , have never seen this movie, but now will try and watch it
And now I can say I have watched it , just now, straight and simple, Glen is magic, smashing performer and person. Enjoyed it immensely
@@charlesdoherty9879 Glad you got to watch it!
I am so glad to see this comment. I want to say that I feel the same way about the film. It feels great to say so many of us share the same feelings about one piece of art.
I was reduced to tears in every other scene, and after the piano arrived and the credits came up, I was completely UNGLUED!
One of my favorite movies.
If it was Cillian i wouldn't even watched the movie... Glenn was perfect in his part
I love this story.
Very cool. Didn't expect to see Glen on this show. Favorite musician ever, and such a great movie
agreed. one of the best, most moving, scenes, in any film ever.
I have seen this movie 6 years ago and been one of my favorite.. it’s 2019 and I watched it again.. and still Inlove with it. Glen is really one of my favorite.
Didn't know Cillian Murphy was supposed to be on Hansard's role.
That's interesting..
Love Glen Hansard!!! Very Much Crushing On Him!!! Love The Movie!!! Love a lot of His Music!!! Thank you for Sharing!!!
God.. people like Glen and Cillian makes Irland look so good to the rest of the world. Beautiful human beings and personalities!
Love this film

One of the best movies ever!!!
What a scene, what songs, what a movie
I still remember reading the movie review from my local newspaper, just a weird thing to remember considering I saw the movie only until 7-8 years later.
This was hilarious and also moving ❤
Well, now everyone is happy the Cillian Murphy didn't accept it, because Glen was so great in the movie
This movie has soul
I love glen
Sad Multifandom , great singer, great guy 🎸
I hope you all caught him in Cyrano... his tiny little part in that was MAGIC!
I just found that the budget of this film is less than 2 lakh euros. Shows why the cameras shake so much and in general the whole movie seems so cheap, but the story is beautiful
Damn imagine if Cillian Murphy pre Oppenheimer played Guy
lol what if the people who bought the pianos see this video
Lol....I guess that shop is now a mecca for fans of that movie.
💜💜💜
Who was the original person that was supposed to do Busker/Once?
Cillian Murphy, he was in 28 Days Later
Cillian Murphy. He played Jonathan Craine (Scarecrow) in Batman Begins.
Wait. They were together?! He was 36 and she was 17,18?
Im so glad Glenn got the part rather than Cillian . Cillian is a brilliant actor , but Glen was perfect .
THAT is such a funny comment XD...
It was what it was
Waoooo
Outspan!
He can play conor
hahah
One of the worst movies I've ever seen. A drama shot handheld / docu style. Talk about distracting!
It's an independent film. Of course it was shot poorly.

tbh the camera style is what makes it so special to me

audioisgood it’s an indie film dude

Just rewatched it too randomly and it has taken on a whole new meaning for me.
One of my favorite films
