Apologies for the quiet audio in this video, if it's a problem on your system. I was having weird headphone issues during creation of the video and I think it messed up my video export volume. If it's a problem for a lot of people, I will re-upload. Thanks.

I just wanted to add to this video: RIP James McCaffrey. The voice actor for the Max Payne games passed away last year at only 65 years of age. I heard this news only a couple of days after I had been playing MP1. He was the perfect voice actor for the games and apparently a really nice and intelligent man to boot. He will remain a legend.

A couple of things I forgot to cover when it comes to Nicole Horne; it's really interesting to note that she personally fights alongside her hired killers when attacking the Punchinello Manor. Since she has no logical reason to need to do this, it's another thing that points to Horne's psychopathy. This shows she has a reckless disregard for her own safety and a sort of fearlessness which is common in psychopaths.
Also, mentions of the supernatural come up a lot with Horne too - Max refers to her repeatedly as a hag or witch. Lupino implies she is some kind of satanic supernatural evil force. Neither is the case in reality of course, but it's an interesting connection.

I wonder who did Horne and the suits kill when they arrived at Manor grounds because Max had already killed everyone there except Don... I guess there might have been extra mobster outside of Manor which Max didn't have to deal with by sneaking around them.
Horne is a pretty sadistic and obviously psychopathic personality, seeing even tho she uses blackmail and money to have others do most of the dirty work, she sometimes exposes herself like calling to Max's house right in the beginning of the story to hear Max panic (she could have had someone else call the house to not implicate herself, like a mob boss would have someone else do stuff like that) and also injects Max personally with the drug. Again, she would have no real reason to do that personally or appear there in person. She didn't even confirm the kill herself because Max survived.

@@hevitonttu2251 Some great points indeed. Horne is definitely very sadistic, I think. It's interesting because at times she is totally rational and careful (such as her minimalist orders to Muerte to kill the Mayor), but she seems to have lapses where her sadism or control obsession gets the better of her such as the Manor and the phone call. I think she's a surprisingly "realistic" psychopath in this way.
I assume with the phone call that she had enough power to erase the records of the call afterwards, so wasn't worried about making it herself.
At the Manor, I make the same assumption that her helicopter landing attracted mobsters guarding the outer manor grounds and she cleaned them up. There's also a theory that Max survived the Valkyr OD because Mona gave him a small dose of V earlier when she spiked his drink (though people debate whether it was something else). Max could also have been exposed to V during his time undercover.
Failing to confirm that she finished Max off actually fits with her arrogance and cold demeanour. I think if she were less sadistic she simply would have shot him, so in a weird way her twisted personality actually saved Max.

@@SerMattzio Yeah the trope where a main character survives defenseless situations, often because the enemy is arrogant, is as old as time. There plenty of times in the first two MP games where someone could have emptied as many bullets to Max's skull as needed without interruption (one bullet isn't enough in Max's case) but they don't do it because the story would end there.
There are theories about Max being a somewhat druggie himself or that the painkiller's made him tolerant enough to the overdose of V. A fun but impossible theory could have been that Max was one of the individuals who gained super soldier powers from V successfully but he already had the bullet time ability from the start. I think him surviving is just about how he doesn't think he wants to live at all but his body or mind never gives up ever and he is canonically impossible to kill (and just lucky).

Subbed and waiting for your take on MP2. I enjoy how even tho these games were really linear (both the story and gameplay) even at the time of their release, different people still find more or less new insights on them even 20 years later.

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the video. It may be a little while since I think MP2 has even more subliminal and subtle stuff going on! It will be fun to cover, though.

@@SerMattzio What I like about MP2 and also applies to MP1 is like someone else said how there's so much going around the world which doesn't really have anything to do with Max. As in the world doesn't completely revolve around him and a lot of times Max is completely obvious to what is actually happening around him. Max is also canonically an unstoppable force and no one who manages to capture him defenseless ever bothers to put more than one bullet thru his head just to make sure lol. He is just that lucky and in MP2 he would have been canonically killed a few times too if Mona didn't intervene in time.

Max Payne is not in any way inspired by matrix, the game development and implant of bullettime as a mechanic were done long before matrix came out. as is said in the game as a reference, max payne was inspired by john woo master of Hong Kong action films.
As for your video, no need for recap and retelling of story, it's a waste of time and it's better to get to the point but overall good video but you missed alot of stuff, the name connections and their fate between characters of the game and norse mythos, broken glasses in nightmares and etc...
If you have telegram send your id, i would like to discuss max payne with you and send my screenshots and captures for your future videos.
