This turned out beautiful! One thing I learned when refinishing old furniture is if you have to repair the veneer, or add new wood..make those repairs before you strip the old finish off. Then when you use the stripper…smear that old finish on the new wood or veneer and you can’t even tell its new because the old finish has settled down in the grain of the new wood 😊
Another absolute stunner! Your work is so good, Lisa! I can tell why you held on to this one. I wouldn’t have been able to let it go either. That wood grain is glorious! Just, perfection 😍 👏
Well, I really loved the first one and was kinda sad I sold it. I couldn’t believe that I found another one!! I’m going to try it as a media console and see if it works with my room. I hope so because I love it!
I almost didn't watch this video because I thought it was the same dresser you had already done. I'm so glad I clicked on it! It is a truly beautiful piece! Wonderful restoration!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for restoring this beautiful piece instead of covering it with a coat of paint. Your talent and respect for these pieces is truly commendable
Gorgeous! ❤So much work goes into your beautiful pieces! Love the birds singing when you’re in the garage. That’s what I like about working out there myself. Though my dog gets confused hearing it on my phone 😂
Amazing! I love burl wood and you've made this pop. I follow a Canadian wood turner who does gorgeous burl wood and epoxy resin pieces, so I was already sold on this one before you even started. As for repairs you think you could have done better, 99% of people wouldn't notice and the remaining 1% wouldn't care. 🤣 Carry on with the great work.
OMG, scrumptious!! Light, bright, and very current. I've been paying much more attention to burled wood furniture since you light- washed those night stands a few weeks back, and I've noticed a lot of 1970s burled sets (often with Asian detailing) in the better thrift stores locally. I suppose that the folks dealing with their parents' estates don't have the time or imagination to look beyond darkened finishes and chipped veneer. Maybe they hate the "old stuff" they grew up with (that's how my mom felt about Victorian and Empire furniture). But, I've also noticed that the DIYers snatch up those pieces quickly. Does my heart good to know that there are more good people like yourself who can see the potential and are willing to spend some time and create a masterpiece!
You did a great job with the piece! I’m not a fan of that color, but i do like burl wood. If i ever work on a similar piece, I’ll try finding a green stain to tone down the red for a more brown color to allow the grain to show.
To be honest, I tested the pre conditioner on the new veneer and it didn’t change the color much, but when I put it on the dresser it darkened it. I kinda freaked out for a minute because I thought it was gonna go orange, but once I applied the stain it settled down. I am curious what the color would have turned out like if I hadn’t used the pre conditioner. 🤔 Kinda made me regret using it. 😕
I just bought a burlwood piece at auction today and stumbled across your video of how to refinish it. Just want to say thank you for all the detail! It’s brilliant. It’s given me so much confidence to tackle the project. I was really worried about working with the burrs, but this just looks so easy and beautiful.
I love burlwood and birdseye maple. This piece is absolutely gorgeous and you definitely achieved the depth you were after. I would have gone for this shade or even a shade darker. While I was watching you work with these high quality woods I couldn't help but think about the people who put down several hundred dollars for some of the larger case pieces from IKEA that are particle board with thin veneers. This piece is a classic that will look great decades from now.
Some people don’t like burl-wood???!!!! 🤦♀️🤷♀️🤯. Well, that just makes more for us (not that I have any but I LOVE it). Anyway, you nailed this Lisa Queen wood wizard. I enjoy watching you paint in the grain. Great tutorial. Fabulous piece. Please keep it, you deserve it.
Can you believe it? I put a poll on my Instagram and people actually voted that they weren’t fans. Who are those people!? 😅 Thanks Lisa! I’m hoping to make it a media console and crossing my fingers that it works in the space. 🤞🏼
What an outstanding job you did! Love that you kept everything essentially original and the tone of wood stain you did was just perfect! Love the narrative so helpful to understand what you did and why. I love burl wood as well but a little goes a long way meaning for the piece you restored it should be the star of the room and not competing with other burl wood pieces. Love it!
I love your videos. Always learning things from you. And the community comments are a gold mine as well. Your piece is beautiful and I'm happy it turned out so well.
This piece is fabulous…and your veneer fixes are spot on! Great job lady!!! IMO…I would have added a base or legs to pull it up off the floor- but otherwise I like this furniture and could see this in my home. Thanks for sharing your process. Love the way you explain what you are doing and I like that you skip thru the repetitive stuff (like doing the same thing on all the drawers). Keep up the nice work….and I’ll keep on watching!!!
Thanks for the feed back Kimberly! Yes, others have mentioned on similar pieces to add legs. I’m sure that would look good too. I’m partial plinth bases. ☺️
Girlfriend, if you need the respirator for the acetone, you really need it for the Bondo. Please take excellent care of yourself! Absolutely wonderful makeover thank you so much for sharing it with us.
When do you use acid tone and when do you use mineral spirits? This piece was well worth the money and the time. You have a tread left. Beautiful work. I always learn from you. Enjoy your hard work.
Acetone is a solvent that breaks down substances. Mineral spirits is used more as a degreaser or removing wet paint. Acetone is more aggressive of the two and will definitely strip most finishes. Just be sure to wear protective gear 😉
I really appreciate your explanation of the products and process you use to transform furniture. I haven’t yet tried stripping furniture but one day I’ll try it. I do like burlewood (sp?) I had a piece like that years ago that I painted and passed on.
Great job as always. I love the wood pieces also. I’ve try to check the link you have for the dust extractor but it’s not working. I’m wondering if you are aware of that. I appreciate you post all the materials use. Thank you for the video!
Wow, looks as pretty as the day it came off the factory floor, such a rich look...I would design a room around that piece of furniture. Curious if most of your work is for resale, or if you do commission pieces and charge hourly?
It’s SO good! I’m gonna try it out as a media console and I hope it works in the room. We’ll see 🤞🏼 Yes, most of my work is for resale. I rarely take commission pieces. They kinda stress me out. 😅
Idk how to private message you, but I have a 60’s (?) bad and 2 doors and a drawer that match this nightstand- with the exact gold pattern! The Maker’s Mark says, “Century Furniture of Distribution”

I’ve never heard that before. Thanks for the tip 🙌🏼
Makes for great common sense 🤔 I can’t think of a theory where this wouldn’t be worth a try ❤ thanks good to know.
Great idea! I hav3 not yet tackled veneer repair, but I’ll use it when I get there
I'm with you - love burlwood, love, love, love it! You really did 'treat her well'! I don’t think I could let go of this either.
It’s so good! It fits perfect in my space and I’m so glad I get to admire it everyday 🤩
Another absolute stunner! Your work is so good, Lisa! I can tell why you held on to this one. I wouldn’t have been able to let it go either. That wood grain is glorious! Just, perfection 😍 👏

Your local sporting goods stores should carry wire brushes for gun cleaning that might help you get into tight spots or small grooves!
I’ll look that up 🙌🏼
I almost didn't watch this video because I thought it was the same dresser you had already done. I'm so glad I clicked on it! It is a truly beautiful piece! Wonderful restoration!
Yep, same style dresser. It’s such a great piece. I hope to keep it. I don’t think I’m gonna find a third one. ☺️
@@ivylane-home you should keep it!
SWEET! The burl wood is gorgeous. Well done.
It really is! Thanks Kay!! 🤩
Wow!!! It started out kinda nice, wound up BEAUTIFUL! Outstanding job, Lisa.
Thank you! I loved it too! 🤩
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for restoring this beautiful piece instead of covering it with a coat of paint. Your talent and respect for these pieces is truly commendable
This wood was too beautiful to cover up!
Gorgeous! ❤So much work goes into your beautiful pieces! Love the birds singing when you’re in the garage. That’s what I like about working out there myself. Though my dog gets confused hearing it on my phone 😂
Oh yes, I have so many birds talking throughout the day. I love it out in garage just working. It’s my happy place. Well, that and the garden. ☺️
I’m glad you kept it! It’s stunning. (I agree, I also love Burl wood.)
Yes! Thank you! 😊

I’m a big burlwood fan. 🤩 Aw, thanks! ☺️
Love, love, love the color and the Danish oil made the drawers look great! Great job! ❤❤❤
Thanks Lisa! I was a little hesitant on the color, but once it was all together I really like it!
It’s breath-taking 😮 good job!!!
Thank you! It’s SO good in person 🤩
Hola Lisa:

Diagonal cutter pliers could make pulling nails easier for you!
I’ve never heard of those. I’ll look that up too 😅🙌🏼
You work so very very HARD!
I do! 😅🙌🏼
The burl is gorgeous! Well done
It really is! Thank you 🙌🏼☺️

Burl refinishes so well! One of my first pieces was a burlwood piece. It even looks good with just oil. 🤩
I love burlwood and birdseye maple. This piece is absolutely gorgeous and you definitely achieved the depth you were after.

Thank you! Yes, I’m amazed at what people pay for particle board. 😳 I love vintage!
Beautiful. I love burl wood. I'm working on a small table with burl veneer. Thank you for showing your method. It is very helpful! 😊
Thank you! Good luck on your project. 🙌🏼
Becoming a burlwood fan.
Well, I should hope so! 😅😊🙌🏼

Ha. I was born in Aug of 78. I am same age as the dresser.
You’re vintage too 🤣
Eres un bebé, aún no eres una antigüedad 😂.

My pleasure! Stripping is messy, but not hard. I find refinishing easier than painting sometimes 😅
Beautiful
Thank you 🤩 Burlwood is a favorite
Love
Thanks Mary! 🤩
Amazing
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
Another marvelous job! Have you ever worked on Heywood Wakefield pieces? If so, any advice? Thanks!
Thank you! No, I’ve never done a Heywood piece yet. I hope to!
Great job as always. I love the wood pieces also. I’ve try to check the link you have for the dust extractor but it’s not working. I’m wondering if you are aware of that. I appreciate you post all the materials use. Thank you for the video!
Thank you! No, I didn't realize it wasn't working. Bummer! I've fixed it, but here it is urlgeni.us/amzn/festooldust Thanks again!

Nice to see someone restore a piece rather then all the flippers painting everything green ir blue
Ah, I love to restore but I do paint too. Depends on the piece 😊
I've heard you use the term decant, what is meant by that?
Decant = gradually pour from one container into another :-)
Yes, just to pour a liquid out of one container into another usually smaller container. ☺️
Idk how to private message you, but I have a 60’s (?) bad and 2 doors and a drawer that match this nightstand- with the exact gold pattern! The Maker’s Mark says, “Century Furniture of Distribution”
Century also made campaign furniture during this era as well. It’s great quality too!
I like it but you got the orange color back.
It’s less in person, but yes, when I applied that pre-stain I was a little scared 😰
)ove it
Thanks so much!! 🤩🙌🏼
❤
Thanks Dorothy 🤩
Hi, I love what you do.... BUT...Please try to remember to always wear protective Eye, Ear, and Respiratory protection... always!!! But I love love love your work... Your're Awesome. !!!
Thanks Gail!! I really try! 🙌🏼😊
It’s too orange colour in my opinion. But if you like it that’s all that matters
It’s less orange in person, but tbh I was hoping for a more brown tone. 🥺
Beautiful!
Thank you! 😊
