    Hey Jay, I'd like to see you put up the 980 Ti Hybrid vs the 295x2. Considering their current price tags, I'd say that is a pretty fair fight.

    • @DanielLoganGames
      @DanielLoganGames 9 лет назад +11

      Since the 295x2 beat the titan x its gonna beat the 980ti but not having crossfire has some major advantages as well.
      Would like a video as well though even though I know the results...

    • @_WEAPON_
      @_WEAPON_ 9 лет назад +7

      Exynos Agreed. 295X2 will beat the Hybrid 980ti in raw power, but when you look at games with poor SLI/XFire scaling, and those games that NVIDIA just run better on, MGS:V, Witcher 3, etc.. 980ti will win there.

    • @liftingforlife1
      @liftingforlife1 9 лет назад +2

      ***** We won't see that any time soon, because Jay is practically paid by NVIDIA. Him comparing the 980 Ti to a AMD card that is HALF the price and not comparing it to a 295x2 is laughable. If he wanted a fair test, he would compare it to a AMD card that is the same price.
      Jay is practically IGN.

    • @DanielLoganGames
      @DanielLoganGames 9 лет назад +6

      Nathan Larkin that or he compares the top tier single GPU to the top tier single GPU. Some people (like myself) don't like dual GPU setups because of performance fluctuation and driver issues. Not Jays fault AMD doesn't make high end single GPU cards.

    • @theenhancer

      Cool story bro.

  • @warfjm
    @warfjm 9 лет назад +28

    The pricing for the GTX 980 Ti does not make any sense. It's barely slower than a Titan X but at the time of this posting is priced at $649.99. Putting 2 GTX 980 Ti's in SLI would save you $800 vs 2 Titan X's in SLI. 3 way SLI would save you $1200 vs 3 way SLI Titan X's. This is beyond stupid. The business executives at Nvidia must know something I don't.

    • @DanielLoganGames
      @DanielLoganGames 9 лет назад +5

      For just gaming the titan line never made much sense. If this card had double precision I would get it but nope...
      I guess the titan x would do better at 5k performance but other than that it is mainly bragging rights. I don't think nvidia expects to sell many titans.

    • @Muffin_Man177
      @Muffin_Man177 9 лет назад

      You mean save you $700 in SLI not $800.

    • @warfjm
      @warfjm 9 лет назад

      Muffin Man Cheapest Titan on newegg is $1,049.99. $2099.98 - $1299.98 = $800

    • @warfjm
      @warfjm 9 лет назад

      Exynos That makes even less sense if you think about it. The production costs for a 980 Ti should be roughly the same as a Titan X. Yet, there is a $400 difference between the two of them. I'm assuming they think they will make up the difference in the volume of 980 Ti's sold verses the people that get duped into buying a Titan X. Honestly, for the Titan X to make any sense, it needs to be sold around $700+ because of the performance difference between the two cards.

    • @warin7214
      @warin7214 9 лет назад +5

      warfjm How doesn't it make sense? They release the Titan X at $1000, get people to buy it, then release a nearly identical card at $650 before amd gets their cards out to sell a bunch

    A suggestion, though: Consider using the empty space in your shot to overlay text when you start talking numbers and specs. It's easy editing and helps viewers visualize what you're talking about when all the numbers start getting thrown out there.

    The lower temps are very much appreiciated. But I don't really see the idea behind using reference bios and pcb :S Watercooling and OCs are supposed to go hand in hand. Sure the chip lottery could be in effect but there were barely any difference between the "normal" and Hybrid card in terms of performance. I was expecting it to blow both the Titan and regular Ti away. Perhaps we'll see some better figures when the custom pcbs and bioses come. Anyways. Nice vid

    • @Hampus3313
      @Hampus3313 9 лет назад +1

      Pholiage " I was expecting it to blow both the Titan and regular Ti away."
      Why? It´s the same damn card as the regular Ti. Only that you run way cooler and more silent.

    • @Pholiage
      @Pholiage 9 лет назад +5

      Rush New to overclocking? The Boost 2.0 on the GF cards push the frequencys to the point where the card gets too hot and then throttles down. So if you can cool the gpu more efficient like the Hybrid AIO almost halves the temps and given the Ti card has a thermal threshold of 98C you could overclock the hell out of it. However the reference cards rarely let you play with the voltages unless you use a custom bios that some homebrewer has cooked up. So my point was. Why not have the bios unlocked if they are going to slap another $100 to the pricetag. EVGA aren't known for whimping out on the VRMs and stuff when they release thier Kingpins and SSC versions. So releasing this "beast" is like having it chained to a tentpole at the circus. The performance it gives at stockspeeds are good already. So you would figure this was aiming towards the enthusiasts. Now it's more confusing what they were planning with this card other than the lower temps. If they only wanted to bring down the noise and temps they could of used their ACX cooler right away on the reference board and just charge $50 more.

    • @ZenzDeluxe
      @ZenzDeluxe 9 лет назад

      Rush Please know that much higher clocks with this hybrid cooler are probably possible because of that low temperature. With a custom BIOS, and some higher overvolting, this thing is probably capable of getting at least in the 1500mhz OC range on the core. In that case, it WILL perform better than a Titan or 980ti on stock reference coolers, and it will still be very quiet.

    • @Hampus3313
      @Hampus3313 9 лет назад

      ZenzDeluxe oh i know, but please know he´s more or less running the same clocks.
      So again, it´s the same damn card, what do you expect?

    • @Pholiage
      @Pholiage 9 лет назад

      Rush You fail to understand. The AIO liquid cooler in the Hybrid is capable of cooling the card to a degree that you should be able to overclock the card much higher. Which Jay pointed out he got a 1484Mhz. If the card would have been unlocked and even had a custom board it would probably go much higher. Jay was showing the difference of the highest stable overclock on the reference Ti and Titan vs the highest he could get on the Hybrid. But 84Mhz wasnt doing much for the card. Case in point and waste of $100

  • @S666G666

    08:31 Can't you just open up the GPU shroud, and switch between the blower fan header and the rad fan header?

    • @3rdGenGuy
      @3rdGenGuy 9 лет назад +4

      S666G666 the Blower fan uses a small 4pin connector.
      it's much smaller than a 120mm fan 4 pin.
      You might be able to solder one in, but idk how much power it needs.

    • @Veriflon88
      @Veriflon88 9 лет назад

      SANIC it's technically just a smaller 4pin PWM connector and there are adaptors available, but I think the problem is that the radiator fan has only two wires, therefore it isn't controllable through PWM. You should be able to use any other 120mm PWM fan, though.

    • @3rdGenGuy
      @3rdGenGuy 9 лет назад

      d_o_m_i_f_i different power requirements though.
      I wouldn't risk it.

    • @toma3025
      @toma3025 9 лет назад +1

      S666G666 Look at the cable, it has a connector in the middle. Attach that to one of the motherboard fan controllers et voilà, easy control over both.

    I wonder whether the 980ti is going to sway more prospective Titan X owners, or whether it will sway more prospective 980 owners... I'm inclined to think the latter, but I honestly don't know. Part of me does feel bad for the people who bought the Titan X, but at the same time if you're dropping 1k on a single GPU, money is most likely no object.

    • @luisville9050
      @luisville9050 9 лет назад +3

      Dextah I think most titan x owners just simply didn't expect NVidia to release the 980ti just a few months after the Titanx.

    • @DextahPC
      @DextahPC 9 лет назад +1

      ***** What exactly are you doing that requires more than 6gb of Vram?

    • @DextahPC
      @DextahPC 9 лет назад +1

      *****
      I guess. But really nothing gets close to even 6gb of Vram... even on 4k displays. I guess maybe dual or 3 way 4k displays would need more, but other than that, no current game maxed out uses 6gb.

    • @DextahPC
      @DextahPC 9 лет назад +1

      *****
      Yes. I'll use Watch Dogs, Crisis 3, BF4, and GTA V as examples.
      Watch Dogs, as I'm sure you know is total unoptimized trash, only uses 4gb @4k with 4x MSAA (Anything more than 4x MSAA is imperceptible at 4k resolution).
      Crisis 3, without AntiAliasing only uses 3gb of Vram @4k and about 3.7gb @4k with 4x MSAA.
      BF4 uses 2.5gb Vram @4k with AA off and only 3.2gb @4k with AA on 4x MSAA.
      GTA V will actually get close to the full 6gb of Vram @4k (5.7gb), but ONLY if you crank MSAA all the way up to 8x (which no sane person does at 4k considering you won't even see a difference from 4x MSAA).
      Even the most notorious, demanding titles do NOT require 6gb of Vram even at 4k resolution. 12gb is more than overkill and by the time 12gb is actually used regularly in game, the graphical capabilities of the Titan X will be sub par.

    • @akh270
      @akh270 9 лет назад

      Dextah I didn't expect it TBH. But looking back it doesn't surprise me really. With all the hype surrounding the 300 series AMD cards this now makes total sense. That being said, I'd assume those who dabble in the very best of the best equipment are aware that this type of thing is really par for the course.

  • @verisimilitudeteller

    I can't wait until someone benchmarks 1 980TI vs 2 970's, just to see which is the value buy. For me I already have 1 970, but am on the fence if I should just sell this and buy a 980 TI.

    • @eddyjroth
      @eddyjroth 9 лет назад +1

      Christopher Snow 970 sli: www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_970_sli_review,17.html
      VS
      980ti: www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/nvidia_geforce_gtx_980_ti_review,21.html
      only one game, but your looking at around 35-45% performance increase 1v1. SLI v. single 980ti is about even (in price AND performance)
      edit: id say either option is good depending on what resolution u play at. if its 4k, the 6GB buffer will go a long way. 1080p/1440p its probably a toss up, though ud probably save a little on the power bill with one card

    • @verisimilitudeteller
      @verisimilitudeteller 9 лет назад

      Eddy Roth
      Well I already own 1 970, so the investment is halfway there already vs having to pay 700-ish for a 980TI I can spend another 350ish for one more 970. Power bill be damned... *grin*
      But I do admit the EVGA 980 TI with the liquid cooling for 50C under load looks very appealing.

    • @hachre
      @hachre 9 лет назад +3

      Christopher Snow I'm in the same boat but I'll probably sell and upgrade to 1 980Ti. Two reasons: a) Evade any SLI problems, b) 6 GB instead of 3.5

    • @gamingmarcus
      @gamingmarcus 9 лет назад +2

      Harald Glatt It will be 7GB with DX12
      But I'd also recommend taking the 980ti.
      SLI costs you more power, produces more heat and causes micro stuttering, so it's not worth it if you can get an equal card for equal price.

    • @rx10

If exhaust will that also help with overall case temps by pushing air from within through to the outside of the case? How loud is that rad fan? Could you replace it with a better rad fan such as a Noctua NF-F12?
    Good video just some lingering questions as inquiring minds want to know.

    Great review, I was impatient and got a Titan X that has a NZXT G10 bracket with a 140mm H90 AIO and temps aren't nearly as good as this solution :O It's possible that I put too much thermal paste on it though and I plan on re-doing that and buying some heat spreaders for the VRM chips as the 92mm fan that comes with the G10 doesn't really cool all the VRMs the Titan X has.

    Sick to death of waiting for this card to be in stock!
    I want 2 in SLI anyway, I was willing to fit both radiators in my case I have plenty of space, but having thought about it , It would be a little awkward and not so neat..
    So adding all this together I canceled my order and just got 2 msi g6 versions..
    They seem to be the most petite out of the custom cards, they fit easily and look nice..
    I have sacrificed those low temps I was so looking forward to, But am extremely happy non the less!
    Kicking ass at 4K now!
    And I'm kind of glad now that I changed my mind, I like the way my setup has turned out :)

    Hey ***** it looks like the fan cable breaks, so couldn't you plug it in manually to the mobo for both the reference and the fan on the 120? That would probably provide more customizing, yeah?

    inno3d will also have a hybrid cooling solution, but their version will have a custom PCB using heavily binned chips. it will probably do 1500MHz without breaking a sweat. but i don't think they will be available in the US.

    Do you think watercooling makes sense for lower end cards like the 960 or r9 285? Would you still go for watercooling if you had just 400 $/€ to spend?

    Nice video. I bought a EVGA GTX980Ti SC+ ACX2.0+. At load the card is not very loud but also not very silent in my acoustic insulated case.
    Please can you record and upload an audio sample of the running system?

  • @RomewolfGaming

    I really like that they put a backplate on, also being quieter and cooler than both the 980 and titan x whilst being in between those cards performance wise (because of the extra 84mhz no doubt). i think this card is definately a winner if you are thinking of purchasing one of these

    I'm debating between the 980Ti Hybrid and the R9 Fury X. I was all for the 980Ti until the recent news about DX12. Should I hold off a bit more until more news is out? I have a 4GB 770 so I can hold off a bit longer for purchase.

    I ended up plugging in the rad fan to a chassis fan header to run at 750ish rpm. Much quieter and only peaked at 63°c in the Heaven benchmark running at 1380Mhz for 20 mins.

    Did you overvolt it Jay? Just curious... I'm sure it'd be fine since the cores under water and the VRM's have its own personal blower (mind out of the gutter), wonder what kind of overclocks a lucky one might achieve even with a reference PCB.

    Quick question is it possible to replace the radiator fan? Was looking to possibly do a push/pull setup, and it appears from photos that the fan connector is built into the card. So is it as simple as removing the connector and throwing on a splitter? Wanting to make sure it's possible

    The 980Ti Hybrid seems like an amazing card, but I always wonder if it's an option if you're interested in running 2 cards in SLI. Are there ways to make that fit or is that kind of not the way to go if you're interested in SLI?
