Wow you look much skinnier now, especially compared to that December 2014 video.
Grrr why do i have to be poor?! I want it so freakin bad!
Get a job ya hippie!
Wow i didnt say i was a bum jeez. Easy on the assumptions. Im saving for a house and an engagement ring and i work in a body shop so yeah. Poor
mark valenzo fine, get a REAL job ya hippie!!
Thanks for the advice man! I never thought of that. You should write a book. Troll +1
mark valenzo it's not like you'd read it, books are for people with REAL jobs. Like an insurance agent or waiter.
Man, Jay, you are looking so much better with all these flash backs. Your hard work is paying off :) Great Job!
Thank you Jay! nice one...I was waiting for your review and opinion to place my order for two of these! Keep on helping us with your precious contribution...greetings from Italy!
Hey Jay, I'd like to see you put up the 980 Ti Hybrid vs the 295x2. Considering their current price tags, I'd say that is a pretty fair fight.
Since the 295x2 beat the titan x its gonna beat the 980ti but not having crossfire has some major advantages as well.
Would like a video as well though even though I know the results...
Exynos Agreed. 295X2 will beat the Hybrid 980ti in raw power, but when you look at games with poor SLI/XFire scaling, and those games that NVIDIA just run better on, MGS:V, Witcher 3, etc.. 980ti will win there.
***** We won't see that any time soon, because Jay is practically paid by NVIDIA. Him comparing the 980 Ti to a AMD card that is HALF the price and not comparing it to a 295x2 is laughable. If he wanted a fair test, he would compare it to a AMD card that is the same price.
Jay is practically IGN.
Nathan Larkin that or he compares the top tier single GPU to the top tier single GPU. Some people (like myself) don't like dual GPU setups because of performance fluctuation and driver issues. Not Jays fault AMD doesn't make high end single GPU cards.
Nathan Larkin
Cool story bro.
The pricing for the GTX 980 Ti does not make any sense. It's barely slower than a Titan X but at the time of this posting is priced at $649.99. Putting 2 GTX 980 Ti's in SLI would save you $800 vs 2 Titan X's in SLI. 3 way SLI would save you $1200 vs 3 way SLI Titan X's. This is beyond stupid. The business executives at Nvidia must know something I don't.
For just gaming the titan line never made much sense. If this card had double precision I would get it but nope...
I guess the titan x would do better at 5k performance but other than that it is mainly bragging rights. I don't think nvidia expects to sell many titans.
You mean save you $700 in SLI not $800.
Muffin Man Cheapest Titan on newegg is $1,049.99. $2099.98 - $1299.98 = $800
Exynos That makes even less sense if you think about it. The production costs for a 980 Ti should be roughly the same as a Titan X. Yet, there is a $400 difference between the two of them. I'm assuming they think they will make up the difference in the volume of 980 Ti's sold verses the people that get duped into buying a Titan X. Honestly, for the Titan X to make any sense, it needs to be sold around $700+ because of the performance difference between the two cards.
warfjm How doesn't it make sense? They release the Titan X at $1000, get people to buy it, then release a nearly identical card at $650 before amd gets their cards out to sell a bunch
4AM in Brisbane, Australia. Loving the video, was so keen on hearing about this
I just wanted to say, I found your channel and it's great. Ill be saving up to the end of the year and build my first gaming PC. You videos to help and the reviews are in depth. Keep up the good work.
ok is it just me or does the reference cooler (the silver one with the glass window) look so much better than any other cooler
Garrett Jones It's nice, but xfx's double dissipation cooler is still the best looking for me.
Nathan Butler i mean coolers for other nvida cards the original reference coolers look so much better
Garrett Jones Best looking cooler ever: cdn.agilitycms.com/xfx/MediaGroupings/241/20130617105256_FX-797A-TDJ_2.jpg
ivanjacob www.google.com/search?espv=2&biw=2051&bih=1058&tbm=isch&sa=1&btnG=Search&q=gtx+970+windforce no this is the best looking one
Garrett Jones it looks nice but trust me "cooling" is somthing it does terrible at my titan x runs 80 and up unless i have the fan turned all the way up and its really loud
Wow you look so much skinnier! #GoTeamJay !
Got a notification from EVGA tonight that this card was back in stock, this video helped me decide to buy it. Thanks, Jay!
Jay I'd love to see a multi-part guide to water cooling. Going through conceptual ideas, choosing the right pumps, rads, pipes, and finally assembly
When it comes to a GPU, I feel that I would prefer to custom watercool it over something like this. It's still pretty neat though, shame I don't need to upgrade my GTX770 as of now.
i can see it already.....gtx 1080 sea hawk vs gigabyte waterforce 1080 vs evga hybrid 1080
Great review. I like that you left a little blooper action in there for entertainment's sake.
A suggestion, though: Consider using the empty space in your shot to overlay text when you start talking numbers and specs. It's easy editing and helps viewers visualize what you're talking about when all the numbers start getting thrown out there.
that is really cool that you could hire your friend to help out with videos. congrats on all the success jay
The lower temps are very much appreiciated. But I don't really see the idea behind using reference bios and pcb :S Watercooling and OCs are supposed to go hand in hand. Sure the chip lottery could be in effect but there were barely any difference between the "normal" and Hybrid card in terms of performance. I was expecting it to blow both the Titan and regular Ti away. Perhaps we'll see some better figures when the custom pcbs and bioses come. Anyways. Nice vid
Pholiage " I was expecting it to blow both the Titan and regular Ti away."
Why? It´s the same damn card as the regular Ti. Only that you run way cooler and more silent.
Rush New to overclocking? The Boost 2.0 on the GF cards push the frequencys to the point where the card gets too hot and then throttles down. So if you can cool the gpu more efficient like the Hybrid AIO almost halves the temps and given the Ti card has a thermal threshold of 98C you could overclock the hell out of it. However the reference cards rarely let you play with the voltages unless you use a custom bios that some homebrewer has cooked up. So my point was. Why not have the bios unlocked if they are going to slap another $100 to the pricetag. EVGA aren't known for whimping out on the VRMs and stuff when they release thier Kingpins and SSC versions. So releasing this "beast" is like having it chained to a tentpole at the circus. The performance it gives at stockspeeds are good already. So you would figure this was aiming towards the enthusiasts. Now it's more confusing what they were planning with this card other than the lower temps. If they only wanted to bring down the noise and temps they could of used their ACX cooler right away on the reference board and just charge $50 more.
Rush Please know that much higher clocks with this hybrid cooler are probably possible because of that low temperature. With a custom BIOS, and some higher overvolting, this thing is probably capable of getting at least in the 1500mhz OC range on the core. In that case, it WILL perform better than a Titan or 980ti on stock reference coolers, and it will still be very quiet.
ZenzDeluxe oh i know, but please know he´s more or less running the same clocks.
So again, it´s the same damn card, what do you expect?
Rush You fail to understand. The AIO liquid cooler in the Hybrid is capable of cooling the card to a degree that you should be able to overclock the card much higher. Which Jay pointed out he got a 1484Mhz. If the card would have been unlocked and even had a custom board it would probably go much higher. Jay was showing the difference of the highest stable overclock on the reference Ti and Titan vs the highest he could get on the Hybrid. But 84Mhz wasnt doing much for the card. Case in point and waste of $100
08:31 Can't you just open up the GPU shroud, and switch between the blower fan header and the rad fan header?
S666G666 the Blower fan uses a small 4pin connector.
it's much smaller than a 120mm fan 4 pin.
You might be able to solder one in, but idk how much power it needs.
SANIC it's technically just a smaller 4pin PWM connector and there are adaptors available, but I think the problem is that the radiator fan has only two wires, therefore it isn't controllable through PWM. You should be able to use any other 120mm PWM fan, though.
d_o_m_i_f_i different power requirements though.
I wouldn't risk it.
S666G666 Look at the cable, it has a connector in the middle. Attach that to one of the motherboard fan controllers et voilà, easy control over both.
Just noticed my TitanX clocks up to 1600mhz on reference cooler at 63c with my air conditioning on... Can't wait to see what it can do with some custom cooler
Hyun Jeong 63 on full load reference? Damn.. Is that air conditioning unit from Iceland or something!? lol
WOW...good thing I put off my build until August! I was gonna get a regular 980 but now...ohhh ho ho ho
Earliest I've arrived to a TwoCents vid.
This is the earliest I've arrived too.
in france : titan x 1240 euros and 980ti 810 euros... unfair
minijaws There is your problem, fairness doesnt exist in the world. Sucks, but true.
minijaws In turkey 980ti is 867+ euros.
minijaws ha... in Sweden it's 1300 and 890...
In germany its 1021 and 739
minijaws yea in my country the titan x is about 18000 rand (south Africa) which converts to about 1700 dollars
When I first saw the temps, I had to go back and see them again. I couldn't believe how cool the card ran!
damn jay, you're literally melting! those cuts from your old videos make it really evident.. good job! :)
I wonder whether the 980ti is going to sway more prospective Titan X owners, or whether it will sway more prospective 980 owners... I'm inclined to think the latter, but I honestly don't know. Part of me does feel bad for the people who bought the Titan X, but at the same time if you're dropping 1k on a single GPU, money is most likely no object.
Dextah I think most titan x owners just simply didn't expect NVidia to release the 980ti just a few months after the Titanx.
***** What exactly are you doing that requires more than 6gb of Vram?
*****
I guess. But really nothing gets close to even 6gb of Vram... even on 4k displays. I guess maybe dual or 3 way 4k displays would need more, but other than that, no current game maxed out uses 6gb.
*****
Yes. I'll use Watch Dogs, Crisis 3, BF4, and GTA V as examples.
Watch Dogs, as I'm sure you know is total unoptimized trash, only uses 4gb @4k with 4x MSAA (Anything more than 4x MSAA is imperceptible at 4k resolution).
Crisis 3, without AntiAliasing only uses 3gb of Vram @4k and about 3.7gb @4k with 4x MSAA.
BF4 uses 2.5gb Vram @4k with AA off and only 3.2gb @4k with AA on 4x MSAA.
GTA V will actually get close to the full 6gb of Vram @4k (5.7gb), but ONLY if you crank MSAA all the way up to 8x (which no sane person does at 4k considering you won't even see a difference from 4x MSAA).
Even the most notorious, demanding titles do NOT require 6gb of Vram even at 4k resolution. 12gb is more than overkill and by the time 12gb is actually used regularly in game, the graphical capabilities of the Titan X will be sub par.
Dextah I didn't expect it TBH. But looking back it doesn't surprise me really. With all the hype surrounding the 300 series AMD cards this now makes total sense. That being said, I'd assume those who dabble in the very best of the best equipment are aware that this type of thing is really par for the course.
I can't wait until someone benchmarks 1 980TI vs 2 970's, just to see which is the value buy. For me I already have 1 970, but am on the fence if I should just sell this and buy a 980 TI.
Christopher Snow 970 sli: www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_970_sli_review,17.html
VS
980ti: www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/nvidia_geforce_gtx_980_ti_review,21.html
only one game, but your looking at around 35-45% performance increase 1v1. SLI v. single 980ti is about even (in price AND performance)
edit: id say either option is good depending on what resolution u play at. if its 4k, the 6GB buffer will go a long way. 1080p/1440p its probably a toss up, though ud probably save a little on the power bill with one card
Eddy Roth
Well I already own 1 970, so the investment is halfway there already vs having to pay 700-ish for a 980TI I can spend another 350ish for one more 970. Power bill be damned... *grin*
But I do admit the EVGA 980 TI with the liquid cooling for 50C under load looks very appealing.
Christopher Snow I'm in the same boat but I'll probably sell and upgrade to 1 980Ti. Two reasons: a) Evade any SLI problems, b) 6 GB instead of 3.5
Harald Glatt It will be 7GB with DX12
But I'd also recommend taking the 980ti.
SLI costs you more power, produces more heat and causes micro stuttering, so it's not worth it if you can get an equal card for equal price.
P@r@m3d!© It will be 7gb...for games that support it....when they are launched.... 980ti ALL THE WAY
Nice video and indeed, the Titan X is priced out of the market!
Just as an aside, the vid of you at CES in January looks like a completely different person before all your training and weight loss - fantastic stuff, Jay.
Just bought this card a few days ago. Can't wait for it to get delivered :)
CUDA Cores you mean..?
That weight loss though. Damn!
Looking good Jay! The bike is working.
I scored two of this on the day of release.. Can't wait for tmr!!!
I have been waiting for this video. I just installed The EVGA Hybrid on my Titan X's.
FINALLYY!!! Managed to snag one! :D
full watercooled Raijintek Metis Case build!! WOO
Nice Review Jay, i'm checking on their site now, it seems they did the Hybrid Titan X Version too, really amazing card, in terms of performance and the design.
+JayzTwoCents - This IS the one I've been waiting for. So stoked you got an exclusive on this review! Must have been fun news to get. Keep rockin' it, Jay!
Didn't realize how much different you look over time until you did that throwback. Keep up the biking its working.
I don't really have any ideas for videos for you to make, but that chair review you did with coconutmnky was hilarious.
Builds is always fun to see, modding videos on mods that you can do yourself would be nice, tips and tricks to your system could be nice. thats all I have atm
Awesome review! The temps are very impressive with that cooler!
Sold! Thank you for the review!
Thanks for the review. I just bought one and think I made a good choice now :)
@jaystwocents let's see more head to head comparisons for people to see a good discussion on say 970 sli vs 980ti, etc etc. Similar price options categorized and compared by general price point and and see which ones perform better in 1080 1440 and 4k. Thanks for the great info on new cards and keep up the awesome work!
I remember when you said that only youtubers with a +100ooo subscriber get the new cards. Now look at you. Making reviews on top products. First day. Proud of you jayz2cents. Keep it going.
great video Jay, Happy birthday!
Jay, you look so much lighter now. When you showed you old CES footage you can really tell the difference. Keep it up!
This card is gonna go into my first PC build. It looks awesome!!
Hey man you're looking good, congrats on the weight loss! Keep up all of the awesome.
I've got two of those AIOs on my Titan X cards and they're amazing... they did indeed make this AIO for the Titan X (just came out a few days ago)
this video is the first one to ever show me a great keyboard and mouse combo in a sponsored ad
My plan is the 980Ti plus the Corsair water cooling bracket, but I'll have to see how the price compares for that to the EVGA 980Ti Hybrid. The temps looks awesome.
Thanks Jay. Can't wait to buy this.
Excellent video! This may have to be my next upgrade! :)
Beautiful, elegant, quiet, and cool?! My dream machine build must include this card.
This is such a great PC channel.
Not so bad yourself!
Thanks for the video! Keep up the great work!
So where would you put that radiator and fan? would you want it only to be exhaust or Intake? If exhaust will that also help with overall case temps by pushing air from within through to the outside of the case? How loud is that rad fan? Could you replace it with a better rad fan such as a Noctua NF-F12?
Good video just some lingering questions as inquiring minds want to know.
Nice video and review Jay. (Also, congrats on the weight loss - can see the difference from that 980 clip).
Sexy card.
And congrats Coconutmnky :)
Great video ! Only have to save a little more and I can get it !! Those temps ...unreal
Would love to see a comparison of this and the Inno3d IChill Hybrid!
look so fit for evga discussion, nice work out
Dude i've noticed your videos quality has improved, you made the right decision to do YT 100% now
Daryl Nelson Thanks for noticing :)
can't wait to pick two of these bad boys up when they drop in price.. Currently have two GTX 770's in SLI
love your vidoes! I've got myself a reference 980 Ti, and got it to 1400/8000 brilliant card! may get another for Christmas and sli them ;)
Great review, I was impatient and got a Titan X that has a NZXT G10 bracket with a 140mm H90 AIO and temps aren't nearly as good as this solution :O It's possible that I put too much thermal paste on it though and I plan on re-doing that and buying some heat spreaders for the VRM chips as the 92mm fan that comes with the G10 doesn't really cool all the VRMs the Titan X has.
I bought this and had it for 2 years, I have recently moved on to an EVGA 1080TI Hybrid, no regrets, by far the best video card manufacturer to deal with
Looking good Jay, keep it up! #GoTeamJay
Sick to death of waiting for this card to be in stock!
I want 2 in SLI anyway, I was willing to fit both radiators in my case I have plenty of space, but having thought about it , It would be a little awkward and not so neat..
So adding all this together I canceled my order and just got 2 msi g6 versions..
They seem to be the most petite out of the custom cards, they fit easily and look nice..
I have sacrificed those low temps I was so looking forward to, But am extremely happy non the less!
Kicking ass at 4K now!
And I'm kind of glad now that I changed my mind, I like the way my setup has turned out :)
Hey ***** it looks like the fan cable breaks, so couldn't you plug it in manually to the mobo for both the reference and the fan on the 120? That would probably provide more customizing, yeah?
Ordered two of them last night. Can't wait to receive them sexy cards :)
That's a pretty cool and sexy card, love the Hybrid idea and the performance 50° OC wow !
inno3d will also have a hybrid cooling solution, but their version will have a custom PCB using heavily binned chips. it will probably do 1500MHz without breaking a sweat. but i don't think they will be available in the US.
Jay, even though this video is a bit old by now, I would love if you could do performance review with the MSI sea hawk 1080 and/or the EVGA hybrid 1080 :)
Bought the regular 980 ti yesterday. Just gotta wait for the hybrid cooler to become available....
I switched 2 970 gtx for a 980 ti hybrid. I can honestly say at 4k it preforms very well, and stays very cool and quiet. 5/7
Do you think watercooling makes sense for lower end cards like the 960 or r9 285? Would you still go for watercooling if you had just 400 $/€ to spend?
Nice video. I bought a EVGA GTX980Ti SC+ ACX2.0+. At load the card is not very loud but also not very silent in my acoustic insulated case.
Please can you record and upload an audio sample of the running system?
Will be nice to hear how silent the card really is @idle and @load.
Hey Jay! Any word on SLI results for the 980ti? I'm hovering over a checkout button waiting for results.
need to come out with a standardized noise test...showing Db for all the different cards at idle and under load.
Off topic but congrats on the weight loss, man! Looking damn good. Keep it up!
What is your feel on the Zotac Nvidia GTX 980 Ti AMP Extreme Edition?
I want to upgrade my GTX 570 to a 980 TI, but which one to choose???
happy birthday Jay
So if I wanted some workstation flexibility should I consider the Titan X at all? Or is it a good idea to go for a 980 sli, or 980ti/hybrid?
I really like that they put a backplate on, also being quieter and cooler than both the 980 and titan x whilst being in between those cards performance wise (because of the extra 84mhz no doubt). i think this card is definately a winner if you are thinking of purchasing one of these
I'm debating between the 980Ti Hybrid and the R9 Fury X. I was all for the 980Ti until the recent news about DX12. Should I hold off a bit more until more news is out? I have a 4GB 770 so I can hold off a bit longer for purchase.
I ended up plugging in the rad fan to a chassis fan header to run at 750ish rpm. Much quieter and only peaked at 63°c in the Heaven benchmark running at 1380Mhz for 20 mins.
i love how in the ad you say "pwn noobs without pwning your wallet" and what makes it even better is the super calm, super serious voice you have in the ad
Because i couldn't source the hybrid cooler specifically for my titan x i installed the hybrid cooler marked for the evga 980, it fit perfectly and was 30 bucks less than the 980ti hybrid kit, the only difference is the shroud markings.
when you get the card is there already water in the cooler or do you need to fill it up / do you ever need to refill it?
Holy shit, the flash back videos rly highlight your weight loss. D:
Gz, on that man!
Hope you gonna review the AMD cards that are coming soon. ;D
Bought one of these holds up surprisingly well at 1080p
I have no idea how custom watercooling works, should I try it out with the EVGA "Hydro Copper" or get this (Hybrid)?
Did you overvolt it Jay? Just curious... I'm sure it'd be fine since the cores under water and the VRM's have its own personal blower (mind out of the gutter), wonder what kind of overclocks a lucky one might achieve even with a reference PCB.
Thanks a lot for the time and effort that you put in, Jay!
What is better for gaming: 295x2 or 980 ti Hybrid?
Quick question is it possible to replace the radiator fan? Was looking to possibly do a push/pull setup, and it appears from photos that the fan connector is built into the card. So is it as simple as removing the connector and throwing on a splitter? Wanting to make sure it's possible
The 980Ti Hybrid seems like an amazing card, but I always wonder if it's an option if you're interested in running 2 cards in SLI. Are there ways to make that fit or is that kind of not the way to go if you're interested in SLI?
EVGA is having a Hybrid version TITAN X, hope you can get one and test it!
hows the fan on there? i replaced mine with corsair SP 120's in a push pull should i leave the stick fan on?
can i just go sli with a regular evga 980ti instead of getting another cooler or should i get another hybrid? any suggestions appreciated....just bought a used hybrid on ebay for $385
Great review as usual ^^ Thank You !
