Bodycam: Kentucky Man Calmly Confesses to Brutally Murdering Girlfriend for Life Insurance

- Tommy Powell, a 55-year-old man from Independence, Kentucky, was arrested on December 15, 2022, after confessing to the murder of his girlfriend, 32-year-old Amberly Harris. Newly released bodycam footage shows Powell immediately admitting to shooting Harris when officers arrived at his apartment for a welfare check. The video captures Powell stating, "She passed away. I shot her," before leading the officers to Harris' body in a back room, where she had been for three days.

Further investigation revealed that Powell had taken out a $20,000 accidental death and dismemberment insurance policy in Harris' name just a month before the murder, listing himself as the beneficiary. During questioning, Powell claimed he "lost control" during an argument with Harris and killed her with a 20-gauge shotgun, which was later recovered from the home. In August, Powell was convicted of Harris' murder and sentenced to life in prison.

The officer that saw her first looked quite young, and seemed fairly new to the job. Really puts into perspective just how much police officers go through on a regular basis. Much respect to them. Really sad situation indeed.
I think he was thinking he could go through with it. When he actually did kill her, his mind folded on him and that's why he's so sick.

They are dedicated to ending euthanasia for adoptable pets and in 2013 the commissioner made it a no kill shelter. Based on the dog’s demeanor and approachability, I would say that you’re probably wrong.

12/15/2022 was a Thursday…he said he shot his wife Sunday night/Monday morning (I imagine it was Sunday night bc you wouldn’t mention Sunday night unless it was Sunday night. It wasn’t like he beat her to death where it might take a long time. He shot her). They picked him up at around 3pm on a Thursday. He lived with her dead body for that long.
