Bodycam: Oklahoma Teacher Allegedly Shows Up Drunk on First Day of Elementary School

- Bodycam footage shows a third-grade teacher being questioned by Oklahoma police after allegedly showing up heavily intoxicated on the first day of school on August 17. The video shows Kimberly Coates awkwardly denying being drunk before blowing a 0.24 BAC during a breathalyzer test. Coates would later admit to drinking late the night before and the next morning on the way to work, but denied having any alcohol on school property. The school resource officer pressed her, referencing her cup of “juice.” “Want to try again? That there is wine,” the officer said. Perkins police took Coates into custody and later released her. It’s unclear whether formal charges will be filed against her. Read more on this story: bit.ly/47JlPef

@@earthlingandextrayeah I was like how do you know the legal limit but mess up the math lol
Exactly 💯 I am so confused at ppl defending and feeling bad wtfffff imagine crashing or hurting a child bc she's drunk and gets angry
And they were really about to let her go home smfh she even wiped the cup inside she really has a problem. Imagine someone come in that school for shooting or any other bad thing and most of the teachers there or even one blew this much. She drinking like she taking care of high school kids or middle school.
Exactly, she could have killed a family.
The fact that she's so adamant about not calling her husband, leads me to believe that her husband is very, very tired of this behavior.
Or that he’s abusive or part of the reason why she drinks…
Yeah I get the vibes he is a mean person and she is scared of him.
@@jeltoninc.8542 of course, the husband is the bad one, not the woman DRUNK overseeing ~25 kids
@@jeltoninc.8542that’s a bit presumptive.
As the former wife of an addict, I agree. Of course it's possible he is abusive or something, but I didn't sense that kind of fear from her. It's telling that she refused to call *anyone* in her life (not just husband), even under threat of being arrested. The people close to her have probably had enough of the lies and worrying about her, and her husband will be stuck sharing the fallout of her arrest, job loss, and ruined career. She was trying to delay facing any of that for as long as she possibly could. Maybe this will finally be her rock bottom.
UPDATE: She was arrested a second time for public intoxication, three months after this school incident, when she showed up to court drunk.
That’s so sad!!
She is blowing all her chances
I have no sympathy for someone who chooses to come to work drunk, especially when that workplace is around CHILDREN.

You forgot the kids and the husband that kind of person don't care about others they only care about them so I don't have any sort of compassion for that type of person.
Your compassion is refreshing. So many nasty, mean, judgmental people on here. She has a problem. I had a hard time even believing she was drunk. Nevertheless, she was drunk.
She got fired. I guess that’s not enough for people. They prefer public humiliation.
Life is tough
With a BAC that high and to remain functional and not really show she’s under the influence says she is an alcoholic. She has a very high tolerance to alcohol and it’s actually sad. I hope she gets the help

Not at teaching. She was arrested, charged, and this footage was released. Parents aren’t going to want this woman teaching their children and no other school district is going to want this attention. When it comes to working with kids, there are no second chances. Shes done, I doubt shes ever being a teacher again.
@@ellamarsters8791 teachers get away with a lot more than her. And those teachers a lot of times are just demented individuals with no humanity.
Back when I was a teacher, I had a teacher friend who was an alcoholic. I knew he had a problem but had no idea that he was drunk at work. He was caught, lost his job, went through a really rough patch, but is now 5 years clean and sober and completely turned his life around. I hope this woman gets help.
Glad to hear he recovered. I'm not a teacher or have any friends that are, but for the most part I always respected my teachers and understood that they're dealing with their own struggles while simultaneously dedicating most of their lives to educate. I really feel for this woman even though it was a very irresponsible and careless thing to do. Addiction is a tough battle that not everyone has the strength to defeat, I sincerely hope she will be a victor in that battle 🙏

She didn't even have anyone who would be willing to come pick her up. She also said she was carrying an AirBnB key, and she didn't want to call her husband, so things must not be going well at home. Congratulations!

Congratulations on your sobriety, life is worth the fight to stay clean!!
We do recover 💕 I also lost a job a little over a year ago due to my addiction, it was truly the worse time of my life. I went to rehab, got clean and never looked back. I will be 1 year clean on October 28th.
As someone who lives with a family member who is a struggling alcoholic, I feel bad for this lady, I see how bad a struggle this is… I hope she gets help.
I feel bad 4 her 2😢
Yeahh... I have an recovering alcoholic father who unfortunately lost his job recently due to being too hardheaded about it.
It's painful to see, it's so sad.
Like many addicts, she needs to hit rock bottom. It’s sad, but it’s usually the only thing that makes them choose sobriety.
Nice to be compassionate but compassion should only go so far, the school needs to take a stand, those with mental health issues shouldn't be teaching our children.
@@xtronkillmaster2517I would say this is rock bottom.
Great work from the Principal and the Police . Children safety always come first !! I do hope she gets help and recovered from this.
She is TRASHED, blows 3x the legal limit, and STILL refuses to admit she had anything to drink.
Its 2x 😅
As a recovering addict. As embarrassing amd humiliating as this was, this entire episode could save her life. Glad no children were ever harmed. I wish her well on her road to recovery. Addiction is a DISEASE
A disease? And HIV is a mental disorder
my aunt is an alcoholic. she's been fired from many jobs. if there was a video of her on the internet like this it'd break my heart. this woman deserves all the help. she clearly wants to help children and she deserves it too
I’m glad you’re recovering, proud of your hard work
Glad you pointed this out, yes this had to be embarrassing as all get out, but hopefully this moment changed her for the better...
Addiction is hard to beat, I've watched many struggle... Helping a friend overcome her addiction currently... It's not easy....
So glad they hauled Karen to jail should of put her in a orange jump suit also
As a recovering alcoholic, I feel her pain. I just hope this is her rock bottom and she gets help.
Stay strong!
Good job! As a functioning alcoholic, who tried quitting, you are the kinda people I look up to. Stay strong man.
But no, this won't be her rock bottom. She will get boned again
Unless she takes herr booze on the rocks. 😊
One day at a time and a desire to stop!!
Same, I know that darkness all too well. Ughhh.
Hope she gets the help she needs. God Bless her.
Fyi, I would recommend blurring the phones used, when calling Mr. Oeden his # was shown on screen as well as a few others. Anyways, I absolutely love this channel, keep up the good work of bringing out these videos!!
“Is there any alcohol in the classroom?”
“I don’t think so, I don’t know”
That tells you everything you need to know.
Plus when asked if anything illegal was in her purse she responded "I don't think so" !?!?
Arresting her is the kindest thing anyone has ever done for her even if she doesn’t realize it.
After she gets sober, she should apologize to and thank those people to whom she lied at the school, job or no job.
@RDnAC This is the most truthful comment I’ve seen here.
Arrest and jail is not the solution for addicts.
@@lightoftruth8672 Did you hear her say she was already attending counseling, and her disgust when she had to admit wasn't working?
Giving her a record, humiliating her… it wasn’t a good thing for her. I get that it had to be done but don’t pretend that her life just got better.
She's only 10 years older than me, i thought she was old enough to be my grandmother. That's a hard life this poor lady has lived. I am praying for all the lives she has affected.
And AFTER this she got arrested again for being drunk IN COURT! This woman needs to get help!!!
As someone who grew up around family with alcohol addiction issues, this breaks my heart. The addiction takes over and, even though she knew in her heart she would eventually be caught, she couldn't stop herself from drinking. I hope this was the wake up call she needed to get sober and that her husband and family were there to support her.
I feel you, and for this lady. Tears came to my eyes watching this as my mother had the same issue and lost multiple jobs because of it. I truly hope this lady turns her life around and learns from this.
It broke my heart that she couldn’t call her husband. If something like this happened to my wife I would want her to call me first.
She made that choice to subject kids to this. My sympathy stops when you think it’s ok to use mental illness/ addiction to subject others to your bad behavior
Thank you for the kind post! I hope she is recovering
So far, I haven't heard anyone mention getting help for her.
If she was depressed before, this video being public world wide is going to send her into a spiral. So very sad and humiliating.
And disgusting to the people that put it out for all to see.
Shouldn't be an alcoholic then maybe? Not drinking before going to an elementary school?
@@nexxustyI guess in your situation, ignorance is bliss.
It might be EXACTLY what she needs to finally “hit bottom” and turn her life around. The alcohol & drugs are likely killing her-she doesn’t look 53 and healthy…and her attempted mastery of manipulation was on display and rather shocking.
You never know - a lot of people need rock bottom. A lot of people are lifted out of their poor mental health when they finally face consequences
.24 is 3 times the limit of .08 not two times lol...she's not a functioning alcoholic...she is a pro!
Stop saying “officer” lady he gave you multiple opportunities to come clean and even offered for you to call someone. You blew it, literally
Lady, she’s clearly highly intoxicated with alcohol … literally she can’t think straight.
The fact that she struggled so hard to pick ONE person to come and get her speaks volumes. She's hiding this problem from everyone. My SO is a kindergarten teacher and they run in packs, so I guarantee she has numerous friends she could've called. But, she can't decide who to come clean to.
Being hammered like this around children is very, very bad. Kudos for the way they all handled this and I hope she gets the help she so desperately needs.
Word. That or she's lost all her friends because they refuse to deal with her anymore. The most shocking thing to me was how strongly she fought to keep her husband out of this, and refuse to contact him.
If anyone should be there to support you, its your husband (sickness and in health, good or bad, etc) so she might have got herself into a domestic situation and has no one left to rely on.
@@BattleBladeWarrior^ this
It does appear that she is hiding her problem and doesn't want to admit that she has one. I also thought it was weird that her name tag said Ms. even though she is obviously married. Maybe she is having marital problems and is using alcohol to deal with it.
She said "WE had a box of wine" it makes me think maybe the husband drank too. 🤔 and I believe I heard her day he was working at another school... maybe she doesn't want him to get busted also 🤔 😕... I don't know I'm just speculating...
Exactly
7:15 - “I think she’s a functioning alcoholic.”
He’s 100% correct. And she’s probably gotten by with this before this incident.
Agreed, to be that over, still making sense, and stringing sentences together means it ain't her first rodeo. 👀
Yes. They also call them "maintenance drinkers" they drink just enough to be a constant state of being "buzzed". Its just as bad.
@@MeeMenuchoth Yes, I agree. She is a Professional drinker, and she didn't get that way overnight.
The progression usually goes the drink after work turns into the drink before work, and then the drink during work. Then it becomes the drink instead of work.
She most definitely has gotten away with this many times before... She said herself that the cup with wine residue was from "yesterday", so.... 乁( . ര ʖ̯ ര . )ㄏ
My heart goes out to her. I pray she finds help for her addiction and those underlying problems.
It’s so funny how the officer placed the cup so perfectly that it looks like it has one of those plastic milk shake lids
Right! I thought the same thing 😂😂😂😂
I thought she had a slurpee
I love the grown man in the room handling business like grown ups do.
“Am I gonna be fired?”
“Honestly? Yes.”
Actually the law says they need to get her help first. Alcoholism is classified as a disease.
@@rjbarton2010 which is probably why he said they will talk about it when she comes to the office the next day. He didn’t fire her on the spot.
My mom was watching this with me and she was a preschool teacher. She was in shock and she's like of course she's fired.
I thought the same thing!!! Professional and direct.
I know right, he’s kind of sexy 😜
I'm 3.5 years booze-free and unfortunately had to endure a similar situation showing up intoxicated to work and having to be in an office explaining myself while still under the influence. This is one level of rock bottom and the humiliation, guilt, and regret is extreme, and it's hard hitting both in that moment but for the days to come, ouch. I'm glad that the staff took this matter so seriously and were stern with her. When we are talking about our children, there should be NO excuse or leniency when it comes to the teachers and poor actions. I hope she gets help - she really needs it. It's no way to live!
Amen 🙌❤
💪🏾💪🏾❤❤
the humiliation*
Congratulations 🎉
Ur amazing
She sounds like she is failing miserably in acting school.
💯💯
So she drove to work at elementary school with a BAC OF .24!!! THAT'S 3X the legal limit!!!! Give her 3 DWI and child endangerment!!!
She had wine 🍷
@@mckennahercrush365 lots and lots of wine! 😆🤣😂 and showed up for court- drunk. She got arrested at the courthouse for her hearing a week later for being intoxicated. 🤦 Booze for breakfast- maybe she's a pirate deep down inside! 😆
I was a school administrator for 5 years and had to fire a teacher for being drunk teaching high school kids. She was drinking and taking prescription xanax. I was so scared for her. I was for a while a CADC as well as a Therapist. It was so difficult for me and the staff to confront her but we needed to. We offered help but she refused. She resigned and was gone that same day. A few years later we found out she had passed away from cirrhosis of the liver. She was still a young woman of 40ish. I wish we could have done more for her.
This is so sad, but you did what you could

Can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped

Cant help people who refuse to help themselves. We're better off, don't be too hard on yourself. Empathy is a blessing and a curse lol
Dude, I hope she gets the help she needs. This is heart breaking. The students deserve better and she deserves better from herself
U have a big ♥
I hope the students get the help they need.
How do you know the students are all good people?
Yeah, no. This is why drug testing should be a requirement for working as a teacher
Lol "how do you know the students deserve better? Maybe they suck". Nice.
This started off heartbreaking, but got real annoying real quick. Her lies and games put her exactly where she belongs. They gave her every opportunity to avoid the consequences of her actions, but it just wasn't good enough for her. FAFO.
as much as I feel bad for her and for her addiction, I don't like how disrespectful she was and playing unnecessary games with them. I also understand the principal and the policeman for losing patience when she is not telling the truth. You got caught you explain everything, you admit you did wrong. They were so nice to her to let her get a ride, instead - she burried herself deeper and deeper.
Did she seriously say her birth year is 1970? She looks 65, not in her early 50's! 😮
Yea she’s probably a chronic alcoholic
Yeah i assumed her 60s for sure.
"Please don't do this to me." Nobody forced you to be three times the legal limit, at school, with a room full of kids. This was 100% self inflicted. And it makes me wonder how many times she drove home after school in this condition.
She said that cup was from yesterday smh she would’ve done at this all year. You shouldn’t drink 8 hrs before work anyway.
Yeah she didn’t help herself at all with all her lying.
alcoholism is a terrible disease. hopefully this is her rock bottom and she gets the help she needs

Driving drunk is bad, most people are on their phone, that's bad. Alot of people just can't drive, that's bad. Everyone is drunk!
she is so coherent at .24, it’s insane. She must’ve been drinking heavily for a long time to build that kind of immunity to it, I’ve seen videos of people stumbling at .10-.15
I literally can't function after 2-3 drinks. This woman has to drink all day, constantly, in large amounts.
I agree. She looked great 8 years ago so I bet she’s been drinking at least that long, everyday all day. You don’t age that much in 8 years.

She might seem fine but her lack of willingness to call someone to pick her up instead of being arrested makes it obvious how drunk she really is.
That's not a drunk thing. Almost everyone in that position begs to not be arrested for any and all reasons.

What is your argument?
This officer was so kind and compassionate. 😢
He was a ahole
She's really accustomed to getting her way. I've been in a similar situation and I did no lying, no manipulation, no begging, I just took responsibility in the face of humiliation. This lady got treated so well, escorted out disreetly. Wasn't like that for me. It sucked but sometimes you just gotta take it on the chin and accept fate. She wasnt even living with her husband, at the end she said the key in her bag was to her Air BNB. She has a lot of work to do on herself.
This should be a top comment, much more than these "this is so sad" and "oh she needs help" comments. Obviously she needs help, but she doesn't want it, she had every opportunity to be straight up, and admit that she has an issue and work on it, but she just wasted their time and bullshitted them until their patience ran thin. No sympathy deserved here.
A big shout out to the administration and other teachers who saw her behavior and took action. Our schools need more of them taking responsibility and keeping our children safe. Sad to watch a woman's downfall, but hopefully now she'll get help.
When I was in high school, we had a teacher who was always drunk. It was wildly known that she had Vodka in her coffee cup. Nothing ever happened, no one cared (even administration).
Hashtag rural public school!
you're literally a dork,
This saddens me drunks are hiding among our children… among many other things. I’m glad the public school system caught this before something worse may have happened. This video reminds me of the drunk school bus driver in Florida not too long ago. Also 3x over the legal limit who jumped out of the ambulance shortly after.
They honestly should have intervened sooner though. If the time stamps on the video are correct, they were questioning her at the very end of the school day. If she had taken anti anxiety medication and was drinking throughout the entire day, there's no way that nobody noticed until the end of the day. The kids, a teaching assistant, a coworker, someone would have noticed she was acting funny and smelled like a winery. Yes, they did the right thing by confronting her, keeping her from driving home, firing her, and charging her with public intoxication. But they really could have and should have done more. They should have intervened sooner. Allowing her to continue supervising an entire class of 3rd graders while she was clearly under the influence is crazy and frankly extremely dangerous. She should have been charged with child endangerment for every student in her class. She also should have been charged for tampering with evidence for trying to wipe out the residue from her wine cup when the men left the room for a moment. Yes, she deserves sympathy for struggling with addiction, but she also really needs to be held accountable for making the decision to knowingly endanger other people children. I feel like the high ups in this school did a good job once they took action, but I just wish they has done so much sooner. 🫤🤷♀️
I don’t know any school who wouldn’t take action!
