Yep but as someone already stated the cops are looking to see how well the person doing the test follows instructions not so much their balance and strength.
I've tried the heel-to-toe, walk and turn and failed massively.
The biggest part of these tests isn’t your balance, it’s your ability to understand and follow directions. They’re testing your comprehension, your ability to understand what’s going on around you.
This is why every drunk fails... it’s not how well you do it but how well you follow directions!

It has been well established in law that proximity to your domicile is a mitigating circumstance when caught driving under the influence. You made it this far without killing anyone so you're good to go.

I always wonder how many times the drivers have driven under the influence & not been stopped. I was an emergency nurse almost 40 years. Statistics say 44.6% of drivers in car crashes are under the influence of alcohol or substances. Not to mention all the innocent adults & children injured or killed as a result of those irresponsible drivers.😥😡

People like her upset me even more. They're the exact type to cause an accident, and then they are the ones who walk away and survive, while the others don't. I really wish this was taken more seriously and the punishments were more extreme than they are. Clearly people don't take it serious because you really do get off lightly usually. Pay a fee, spend a night in jail, bond out, community service. Doesn't seem to be working now is it??

@@CaremmnI don't know about the US, but here in Canada that's an automatic 30 day roadside seizure of vehicle and license and up to a $10k fine. It's the same with road racing (Speeds above 50km/hr over the limit) people do not like losing their license and vehicle and absolutely despise the massive fine.

Drinking and driving is incredibly prevalent in New Mexico, ABQ especially. New Mexico also has one of the highest conviction rates of DUI in the entire US. What more could you expect from the least educated state.

They made me do field sobriety tests after my accident. My face broke the windshield and went through it, and I injured my knee to the point where it was so swollen I couldn’t even bend it. And they still tried to make me do field sobriety test. After I broke the windshield with my face and injured my knee. They couldn’t use it in court. My lawyer got it removed from evidence. And I wasn’t even drunk at all. I don’t even drink. I blew zeros.
You think police care about your injuries? They view the public as the enemy.
That would never ever happen in any European country, even in East Europe. They either take a breathalyser test, or in case as yours, when you have injuries they'll do blood test.
Those officers should have been reprimanded. That's just ridiculous. The last one in this video the officers should have had her put her pants on before doing the field tests, they were sitting right there in the front passenger seat. Why on earth would you have someone stand out there in the freezing cold to do tests it's likely anyone would fail when it's that cold which would make the tests invalid. So it would behoove the officers to make sure she's properly dressed not to mention it's just the decent thing to do.

Field sobriety tests are voluntary. You are under no obligation, nor should you agree to do them! Even more important Don't drive under the influence...EVER EVER!!!

There's one cop I watched who has been arrested for planting evidence and regularly failing completing sober citizens on these tests. He had been given awards for his high arrests numbers. So it doesn't matter with them if you're sober they're going to arrest you once you get to this point.

The thing that I despise most about these people is how they blame the police for doing it to them. No, they do it to yourself. If the highly unlikely thing happens and I got pulled over drunk there is no way I’d blame them. That would all be on me. I say unlikely as I don’t drink but I’ve been on restricted pain meds for many years, which don’t my abilities to do anything but I’m also aware enough to never say never.

Yeah that's the thing with these tests is you're taking in so much information so quickly under high stress environment. It's actually pretty difficult to remember all the instruction. Which following instructions is key to this test. Even harder when you've been drinking. Don't drink and drive folks!

Was it Brittany who initially couldn't recall if she had any alcohol earlier in the day. Then remembered she hadn't. She has an astigmatism in one eye. I too have an astigmatism. Which effects the shape of the cornea or lens. She claimed she's unable to move her eyes side to side due to her astigmatism. My understanding is an astigmatism doesn't effect the muscles that control eye movement.👀
Astigmatism makes your eyeballs shake and not move smoothly when a bright light is present. I have astigmatism in both my eyes. The shaky movements is what the police are looking for when they do the light test with following the finger. So if I were you, if your ever in this situation to inform the officer so he doesn’t assume your drunk.

@@coombsadventures9256 Astigmatism has to do with an irregular shape of the entire eye, and normally just causes blurred vision. Not any shakiness. I have astigmatism of my right eye.

@@Scram673 as far as I recall it is a relatively new addition along with how you stand at the beginning while getting instructions. I think the turn makes sense and anybody not intoxicated would easily remember to do it and execute it well. What do you think?
More often more often than not they fail repeatedly before even getting to the turn.
@@Scram673 it makes total sense and could even be intuitive. Leaving your one foot planted and pivoting on the ball of your foot with small steps from your free foot. I've never seen one drunk get that. And also what is common is they get to the turn and they turn and look at the cop like what am I supposed to do?

The lack of accountability is astounding! My youngest son's life was taken by a drunk driver in a horrendous crash and the drunk driver ran, dumped his vehicle on another road, pulled the tags off, and had his girlfriend pick him up.

It doesn’t work like that! She’s already done the deed. Just because she didn’t hurt anyone it doesn’t mean she wouldn’t have- even if it was just right down the road. Accidents happen; especially when you’re driving drunk.

What the heck?!?! The dang cop MAKES the passenger take a sobriety test, she says she cannot passs it and is unwilling to take the tests to he arrests her! She should have been given opportunity to get a ride instead of being put in cuffs. She wasn't driving.
