- Newly released bodycam footage shows investigators in Michigan interviewing a mother after she claims a man tried to pull her daughter into a thrift store bathroom. "My daughter was apparently attempted to be pulled into a bathroom by a young man here," the woman told a Sandusky police officer. The man - later identified as 19-year-old Andrew Jewell - told police he did nothing wrong. Jewell faces several charges including attempted kidnapping.

The chilling video captures the moments after the alleged incident at the thrift store. The distraught mother can be seen explaining to officers that a man grabbed her young daughter by the arm and tried dragging her into the restroom against her will. She identifies 19-year-old Andrew Jewell as the suspect. When questioned, Jewell denies any wrongdoing and claims it was a misunderstanding. However, based on the mother's account and surveillance footage, police arrested Jewell on charges of attempted kidnapping, child enticement, and assault.

For anyone questioning his guilt...this guy's name is andrew jewell, and he was convicted a year ago for following a little girl into a bathroom and attacking her. Thankfully she got away. He only got a misdemeanor I'm guessing due to being mentally challenged, and was ordered to undergo treatment. Yet here he is a year later in the exact same situation...

To anyone wondering what the theater incident really was, he went and hid in the womens restroom and did this to a ten year old girl: "He went right behind her and grabbed her around the throat and used the other hand -- he pulled the sleeve over his hand to muffle her screaming," Scheddel said about what happened to her daughter.
She said her daughter was able to fight off the teen, who ran out of the bathroom. The girl told her grandma what happened and security and police were called."
He only got misdemeanor charges for that, and it was only a year ago. The mom was worried about who this might happen to next.

Kudos to mom for maintaining her cool as long as she could. You could tell by how she finally let herself break down a bit when dad showed up that it’s because he makes them feel safe enough to be vulnerable. He reacted exactly how my husband would have. Speaking of tears, someone else pointed out an interesting observation: Despite all his "crying", Jewell's face remained totally dry. Also, note that at one point he looked back at the officer... as if to gauge whether the officer is responding to his "tears". Thus, he's likely just pretending to be in distress, a last-ditch attempt to manipulate the officer into feeling sorry for him. This kind of behavior is not unusual among sociopaths.

He did the same thing to a 10 year old girl the year before at the movies. They did charge him with "assault and battery" but he followed the little girl into a women's bathroom. The mom of that child said they were too lenient and afraid it would happen again. Look what happened now! These cases need to be taken more seriously. He seems developmentally challenged but that is still no excuse. He needs psychiatric help and he needs to be in jail for what he's done.

Something similar happened to my sister except i was holding her other hand and felt her getting pulled away, i looked up said wtf are u doing and the man ran. We were inside an albertsons looking at easter baskets. That was over 15 years ago. Im in my 30s. Shes in her 20s. And every time i remeber my skin crawls. Even at this age, i hold her hand when were out/in large crowds.

Couldn't agree more ! Massive kudos to the dad. As soon as the words were spoken he instantly went into protective father and husband mode, no questions asked. He instantly believed his daughter, obviously knowing that she either a) doesn't lie, ever or b) wouldn't lie about something like that. If I were the responding officer, I would've conveniently "made sure" that I was too distracted to stop the father. At least let him get a couple of punches in before stopping him.

Cops can't just refuse to take a man to jail just because he was committing assault for the right reasons, especially when there's cameras everywhere and any injuries the suspect sustains would make the charges worse. Imagine if the suspect got knocked out and hit his head on something and was seriously injured or killed, people have been charged with murder after throwing a single punch. Even if all charges were dropped, he may have to spend the night in jail and that could affect his job. This is why the cop didn't let him go inside.

Jewell, last in court in December, is charged with attempted unlawful imprisonment, kidnapping/child enticement and assault/battery after trying to drag an 8-year-old girl into the bathroom of the local Hope Thrift Store in late August 2023.
Currently, the trial is still planned for two days starting this coming May 9th, at 9:30 a.m., with the next hearing for the case being the final pretrial on April 24 at 10:30 a.m.
