A BRITISH AFTERNOON TEA FOR 80 SORORITY GIRLS - AND AN AMAZING CORONATION CHICKEN RECIPE
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 5 окт 2024
- Afternoon tea is quintessentially British. Enjoy, as I share the history and etiquette of afternoon tea including some of the Royal Family's favorite dishes at a college sorority house. "Milk first or last?" "What's the Queen's favorite tea cake?"
I also demonstrate the delicious CORONATION CHICKEN that was created to celebrate the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth II in 1953 and the recipe that I used to prepare at Buckingham Palace when it was on the menu. A fabulous twist on "chicken salad" perfect in a sandwich, for a light lunch with rice salad or piled onto a baked potato.

CORONATION CHICKEN RECIPE
4 cooked chicken breasts
1 cup mayonnaise
¼ cup heavy cream
1 TBS curry powder (or to taste)
1/2 cup diced red pepper
1/2 cup diced red onion
1/4 cup diced ripe pineapple
1/4 cup diced apricots
salt and pepper to taste
In a large bowl combine all of the sauce ingredients and mix well. Cut the chicken into bite size pieces and fold into the sauce mix. Spoon into a large serving bowl.
I didn't know you had a daughter it's so nice to meet her.
Thought Darren was gay lol
@@maxcream6726 I'd agree yeah, he definately has a slight campness to him, I love it. But not everyone a bit flamboyant is gay :P
I'm still here ! :)
Why does his daughter an American accent but Darren have an English one?
@@CJmummy Because she grew up in America as he migrated there after leaving the Palaces (I assume). He's English, grew up in England and lived most of his adult life in England so has an english accent.
Having Darren as a dad has to be the best plus he used to cook for royalty? That’s one strong résumé
You have a beautiful daughter, Darren. The coronation chicken looks awesome.
I think so too!
that’s so sweet you did this for your daughter 🥺
Darren, A lovely, and stunningly beautiful Daughter. That was absolutely so 'Tre Cool' to do for Her. I'm a guy your age who lives in California, but... I can tell you how proud she was to have her Dad do this for her Sisters.
Your RockStar status just went sky high Sir ! Nice job. Nice job indeed. Please know that.
dear Lexie...'love' your dad, he is everything I never had in a father. Take care of yourself and him and good luck with everything you do in your future.
Loved the coronation chicken served with baked potatoes I had on one of the restaurants just off the royal mile in Edinburgh.
This man is such a wonderful storyteller! His stories are as entertaining as watching him cook. I just live him.
I think teas should be a thing for middle-school girls and up. I attended tea with my grandmother a few times, and had to wear gloves, a hat, and probably my patent leather shoes. The table decoration flowers were always amazing too.
You don’t wear the gloves while you’re actually drinking the tea though, that was only done a little bit when the fingerless gloves were in fashion
@@zararoyce319 oh ok 🙄
Controversial but wearing a hat in doors is often frowned up in the UK unless you're in church where covering your head is seen as respectful.
When I was a little girl we would always have them the week leading up to a wedding. It wasn't a shower it was strictly a social event. It was always so exciting because you got a new dress, new gloves new shoes, etc. I lived in fear I was going to break a piece of China.
@@nothanks150 I’m British born and bred and I have honestly never heard of the idea of anyone covering the head in church out of respect!
Diana is smiling down from above ❤️
So now I understand why you're such a skilled storyteller. You have been doing it long before your youtube fame, while catering to your clients. Now I feel like a proper dunce for not realising it sooner.
Dear Darren, it was absolutely amazingly delicious. Now on this sandwiches will be my family's favorite. Thanks a lot. God bless you.
What a gorgeous tea for those lovely ladies, Darren. Thank you for sharing. xx
My first husband was British and we lived in the UK for the first 3 or so years of our marriage. (We have been divorced for several years now, and we both live in the US -on opposite coasts! Haha!)
While living in England I learned how to cook and bake many, many wonderful dishes, and had the opportunities via friends to collect several more recipes and loads of cookbooks!
Coronation chicken was one of those dishes for which I asked one of my dear British friends the recipe! It is still a dish I make often, whether it be the warm casserole type dish, or the cold salad version.
I’m originally from the Southeastern US, so this chicken salad goes over a treat at potlucks and brunches/lunches with friends -I am always asked for the recipe, which I happily share! I cannot wait to try your recipe, as it has more fruit in it than mine, and I think it will be delightful!
I was so pleased to find you have your own channel, so I have happily subscribed, set my notifications, and am about to go back through your videos after I finish this comment. ☺️
Thanks for sharing Brooke and for watching. Yes the Southern chicken salad is much different. I love them both.
Really nailed down the college student look there, chef!
Your daughter is the luckiest girl to have a dad like you
agreed
Reminds me of my mum's recipe for corrination chicken. She would serve it with a rice pilaf molded in a bundt pan with chicken salad served on top. She put cashews in hers. :-p
I wonder if the queen, if she ever gets on youtube, watch you and say; "Oh my! That's my favourit choclate cake!"
This comment didn't age the best 💀
@@dylan5989 😂🥲
How funny is he with that backpack, Winston and hat ❤️ Darren McGrady you make my day 😊
Actually, coronation chicken was selected for the Coronation, and the recipe widely published in women’s magazines well in advance, because the very last food rationing was lifted a few months before and all the ingredients - which broadly represent the far flung realms of the Crown at that time - were available. But most food rationing ended years before. The idea was that the public could eat the same recipe as that served at the banquet for the new Queen, so it had to be easy to shop for and make. Coronation chicken wasn’t really a new recipe, it was an updating of the Jubilee Chicken made for George V in 1935. Jubilee chicken didn’t catch on but coronation chicken’s association with Constance Spry, the etiquette expert, and the huge publicity, catapulted it to be a national favourite. It’s mostly used today as a sandwich filling, all the supermarkets have their own versions.
I'm not really a big fan of cooked fruit with my chicken, but I have to try this! Thanks for a great Channel! I really love these videos!
What a wonderful Father. My parents invited my class to our restaurant to dine one night… great memories. Well done Darren.
Awww, so nice to have your daughter attending university here in Oklahoma. Welcome!
Mr.Mcgrady, you are such a lovely humble being. What you did donating your Book earnings to charity is just amazing. Thank you for sharing your stories & recipes with us, it's a joy and a pleasure to watch. All the best to you :)
I absolutely love your videos! There is the prejudice that the english people cannot cook, but you proof they can! Totally love your humor and Winston, loved the English Breakfast video where he was still asleep! I copied your salmon in puff pastry, delicious!
But your best work is by far your georgeous daughter! Stay healty and safe and let those videos roll!
I can't express how much I love this Channel! You're such a sweetheart Darren and I can't get enough!
Wow, thank you!
This was a great video! In fact, I love all your videos. Well chef we have two things in common: we both love to cook (although I think you’re better than me at it) and we both have lovely daughters. God bless.
as a college student, I thought this was so amazing! you are such great dad! God bless!
The way Darren pronounces “scone” is shocking. I guess 20 years in the U.S. has gotten to him. 😆
Agreed!
You've never been to England?
@@ecosseza4030 I’ve been to England twice but only London.
That’s how we say scone in my part of England
.He has a working class accent- though he has risen so high :)
My grandson attends Oklahoma State . I enjoyed seeing the school and all the lovely young ladies .
I first had coronation chicken in Glasgow when I moved there for my postgraduation
It's now one of my all-time favourite sandwich fillings
Sometimes I'd go and get the coronation chicken sandwich filling and eat it all by myself before putting it in a sandwich. It's so good
Mango and chicken is a very underrated combo
Hey Darren, a special request. Could you please make a video on how to prepare a lovely Shepherd's Pie, or Steak and Kidney Pie. Much appreciated 🙂
seriously
He's done cottage pie on youtube.
@@mitchellyoung8561 Is it so? Could you be kind enough to paste the link below. Thank you.
A girlfriend of mine from London have it to me. We worked together for years at the front desk of the Hotel del Coronado, on Coronado Island, in San Diego, CA. One of my favorite things to make!
Your daughter is a doll and boy did you put on a spectacular tea for all those lucky young women!! 🎉💐 What a memorable day they will have due to you Chef McGrady!! ❤️😘 Much congratulations!! 🎉👍🏻💐💕😙
Thanks for the joy you bring Darren.
Hi Chef Darren! Love your channel! I'm a history buff and absolutely enjoy your stories about the British Royal Family especially about food originating from the Victorian times. I have tried also most of your recipes and those are delicious. Appreciate your work.
Aww, Chef congratulations on having such a wonderful daughter. Also, being such a cool Dad! Family is what it’s all about. Be well, to you, your wife and daughter🇺🇸🇬🇧👍🏻🌺
This is the most informative cooking show on the net. I love to watch someone who makes it look so easy. I also loved Clarrisa and Jennifer- I am certain they too would love your show!
Poor Darren, his daughter attends a southern party school. If he only knew our American college traditions. Hahahaha, love you bro.
I first tasted a coronation chicken sandwich as a teenager back in around 1999 at a place called Scott’s Delicatessen in Earlestown. It was my new favourite butty.
Love it .. Dallas Texas 😊 Love you Chef for bringing the history of the Queens kitchen to us peasants. I know your daughter was blessed.
Great background music, in this video. keep up the great work Mr Mcgrady.
Glad you like it!
Sooo much better than a sorority mixer haha. What an awesome Greek life event!
What a great dad!
I did not asked for this channel but this channel really found me and I’m addictive to it .
A lovely video Darren and your daughter is beautiful! Isn't she lucky to have you as her daddy!!! Those sandwiches look sooooo good!! Enjoy your day Paula in uk
This was so nice, and fun for you and your daughter to do this together. Delicious!
WOW his daughter is absolutely stunning looking 😍
I made this chicken salad. Absolutely delicious. Thanks.🤗
Glad you liked it!! Thanks Karl
I am addicted to your videos. Sweetest chef ever!
Amazing. Remember first time I had coronation chicken. It was in a wrap at a Princess Trust event at Buckingham Palace in the garden. Never had it before as thought it would be too sweet but how was pleasantly surprised. Definitely making this tomorrow!
Darren, you are a treasure! I love watching your videos. You are a great chef and a good story teller! Thank you for sharing with us!
I remember my first trip to Europe on the QE11, I was only 8 years old but everyday I looked forward to tea time.
I really enjoyed watching this it kind of reminds me of going back to my grandmothers day I remember grown up and join having cups of tea and beautiful china cups and beautiful sandwiches as I live in New Zealand and thank you sure if I really enjoy it🤗
How fun!! Your daughter is gorgeous! And the sandwiches look DELISH. This reminds me of the time when my adult daughter chose for her Senior project to throw an Afternoon Tea for the teachers and staff at her high school! Of course, with her schedule I made the entire menu and decorations (Tea pots, tea cups, spoons, plates, ect.) everything was a hit with the faculty and she received a A+++ and recognition at her graduation commencement! Glad I took pictures for memories.
What a great dad!!
Just started binging on your videos. Love them. Love your humor and Winston.
Winston is adorable.
I really love your videos not only for meal ideas but you’re fun to listen to!
Yay! Thank you!
You brighten my day man! Always a pleasure to see you work and hear your stories! Big
Love mate!
The Coronation chicken looked really good. I am going to make this! I am glad to have found your videos
I made this chicken recipe,, wonderful! Just wonderful !!
Love my English Tea makes my heart flutter , thank you hope you reach your million, gosh imagine having you at your sorority bash, a Royal chef one up from the celeb chef. My mother makes coronation chicken sandwiches we use to have them for Sunday lunch and picnics wonderful. Maybe you can do a show with a traditonal picnic with my favourite pork pie, loved that my Aunt Dorothy, passed on, now made the best. love them.
I was hoping you would get around to making coronation chicken one day. That day has arrived. I'll need to give your version a go.
Ladies looking lovely, and the one male guest dressed as an astronaut.
Looks delicious and love you Darren.what a wonderful thing to do for Lexi.
Just discovered your series--loving the recipes and stories! Tell Winston he's welcome to stop in Norman Oklahoma, we'll be glad for another OU fan in the neighborhood ☺️
Enjoyed the video! I'm planning an afternoon tea with my daughters.
I am so glad you got to make afternoon tea for your daughter's sorority! Those coronation chicken sandwiches look so good! I love curry and I do like spicy curries now too! I never thought of using mango chutney in chicken salad. Your daughter's so lucky!
I needed to be at that tea… most of the questions the girls had (that you listed off) left me wondering about the answers as well!
Never had Coronation chicken. So luxurious sounding, yet easy to put together. I really wanna give it a try out!
Yum yum yum! I’ve never had curried chicken salad but I’m going to have to try it now! Cheers! 🤗
Oh, how could you, Chef McGrady! Sending your daughter to OU when you live in Texas. Worlds are colliding! Oh, the humanity! 😁
I love Coronation Chicken in a lettuce cup or on a croissant. Mine has been missing the mango chutney, but I am DEFINITELY putting that in my next batch! Cheers!
Thank you very much! Very interesting! I must make it!
This is right up my alley......as well as my son's, daughter's.......maybe my wife's..? I'll bring it up.
I'll try it soon. Trust me. You sold me at "baked potato" 🤣🤣
This was awesome! My daughter's private school did an afternoon tea years ago and it was precious. They had to research and plan everything about it from the etiquette to the menu. They all dressed up and the boys escorted the moms our tables.
Well this means people in Texas have class. I love English tea time
looks great, are u doing a part 2, to include the pastries that you serve in an afternoon tea?
Ohhh, that coronation chicken ! Those lovely "sliders" ! I'd have three, no problem . I noticed Winston got smacked when you entered your van. Please be careful in future, I love the old boy . They must miss you over at the palace !
That was very wholesome and enjoyable! Coronation chicken sandwiches and salads were pretty common on afternoon tea menus in Hong Kong. Never really clicked that it was an actual royal dish so I assumed it was a title added to make a sweet curry chicken sound fancy :D
God this channel is so wholesome. It’s just what I need.
Thank You Darren for another Wonderful Video
I am really looking forward to trying that coronation Chicken
it looks Wonderful and pretty easy to make. I also like the fact
that you mentioned you can make it in advance. Delicious
and Convenient.
Thank You again,
Jeff
Glad you enjoyed it
This is awesome! How fun.
Love watching the show .
Darren, you have the finest cooking.
Yay!!!!👏👏👏👏! A new video and with Winston in a backpack!!! Nice! Time to watch this new one! Thanks for sharing!!!
Love this man! He is a gem!
I'm an armature chef, read its mostly a hobby for me, and I love your videos! If I can find the chutney I will definitely make this!
Thanks for the recipe! My son and I made Coronation Chicken sandwiches for the Diamond Jubilee. We also made Eton Mess and cucumber sandwiches. We were Californians in the middle of the desert but that didn't stop a royally good time!
And congratulations on new King 🎉 Just watched Coronation of King Charles. Your videos are fantastic and a lovely daughter as well .
When you said chicken was luxury, Monty Python spam sketch was playing in my mind.
I look forward to seeing you all the time!
Back in 1985, Lady Diana visited Cardiff Castle for a, Civic Function.
Living at the time in, The Mansion House, serving, Norman Llloyd Edwards?
A priceless episode also, of cooking breakfast for Prince Edward?
You Sir, truly inspire me, I was also, number 1 in the kitchens of , Guys Marsh,.
I'm crazy about anything British. I'd love to attend a tea and have Darren as my dad! 😄
I bought a coronation chicken sandwich in a shop in the mid-1990s before my husband and I traveled from London to Canterbury for the day. Very tasty!
That chicken looks awesome. Also, I bought a Mercer Culinary Ultimate 8 inch chef knife. I love it! It's so nice I hid it in a drawer so nobody else uses it. Thank you for the recommendation!
Make sure you get a guard for the blade! It doesn't just stop it going blunt when in the drawer, but makes sure you keep all your fingers when looking around for other stuff in there!
Love your video show 👍👍😘😘❤️❤️
Saw this and a Q&A that followed it. You mentioned being featured (per actor) on the movie Spencer. I have Hulu and saw it listed. So I put it on. OMG, just glad I didn’t waste money on a ticket. Couldn’t get through 1/3 of it. But the kitchen did look nice. As we say in the Deep South, “Bless your heart”.
I have made Coronation chicken. Your recipe. Love it.
