One of the greatest "breakup" songs of our generation. Patti and Michael crushed this song, and it's great to see the younger set discovering this stuff and loving it the way you do.
Back in the day (80s) I was pretty much straight up rock and roll. But, the first time I heard this beautiful duet, it literally stopped me in my tracks. My music tastes have grown exponentially over the years, but this song still is one of my all time faves! Yah, I'm a romantic:)
I remember first hearing this. Always loved Patti and Michael doing thier own thing, but together it is just like " you stuck your peanut butter in my chocolate."
@@princedejour2686 Interesting story, they had never met when they recorded this song. One was on the east coast and the other on the west coast. I went the the Shrine when Yamaha was honoring Michael McDonald, Patti was there and they preformed this song together for the first time, it was incredible.
Fun fact. They recorded their parts separately on different coasts. They filmed the video separately. On two different coast. The first time they sang it together was at the Grammys. Where they won , btw.
Deservedly freaking so, as far as winning that Grammy. Two incredible vocalists, two powerhouse talents coming together to create something magical. This is just a fabulous duet!
Hey Ashley. This smooth Soul and R&B genre produced some great recordings and utilized some of the best singers of the day. Shout out to you for reacting to this one. Peace.
I hadn't thought of this song for years, decades even. Took me right back to being 12 again. Just when those lyrics and chorus was stirring up some major feels, then towards the end blew me away, with the two of them seeing from the bridge and cliff top in the distance, as if they were trying to reach each other from afar. I saw you noticed it too, going by your reaction @6:40.
There is just something about old school music. It just "hits" differently. They sing about love, and sing with feeling. I don't hear that in rap/hip-hop crap music of today.
Well this is what the song is about “ both of them were the best thing to happen to each others life but the lady wasn’t ready and walked away and when she realised what she missed it was late for both of them , the lady is now too guilty to come back to the man and the man to shaky to let her in his life only in the fear she will again leave although they are deeply into each other to let go completely out of each other’s lives. “ life is stranger than fiction
Patti, Miss LaBelle has been a Diva for quite awhile, she is at the epitome of her game, she takes Second to No-One. You have heard Michael McDonald. He is in the “Doobie Brothers”, ( they’ve started their ‘21-‘22 Tour) What a Fool Believes, Minute By Minute, Taking it to the Streets, Whenever I Call You Friend, he’s also done back up work for “Steely Dan” & “Kenny Loggins”. This has got to be the “Best” Break up song ever! Check out the Production Values, California vs New York. The letter Patty crumbles up in NY shows up on Michaels table in CA. The same Boxes/Luggage in both places, hell they even have the same Cactus. The Voices are beyond compare, Patti is at her Best and Michael is in Top Notch form. I’m a Big Fan. I also requested this Women for “Female Friday” before….SanJoséBob
Patti La Belle and Michael McDonald great singers. Of course Mike McDonald later hooked up with Three Dog Night. Oh their voices were meant to be together.
This song is simply wonderful, the clip was sensational, here in Brazil, we had great music at this time. but now there is nothing good... thanks for sharing.
Another good one to react to is Ever Changing Times by Aretha Franklin and Michael McDonald. Also, for Patti Labelle, please check out You'll Never Walk Alone live at the Apollo 1985. You won't be sorry you did!
Ashley this is a time when you had to actually play music and be able to sing with feeling remember now you're talking to ladies and you want them to feel
Patti had sgugch a beautiful voice and when she sang you felt everyone. The only other who caught my by my heart like that was CEE CEE Wynans and Mahalia Jackson.
A timeless classic by two extremely talented artists.
I love when two amazing artists combine their talents like this. This song was an instant classic!! 💖💖

Well said 👍
It is such a great duet! Never gets old!
This is when you had to have actual talent - not auto tune and all the sound studio help.
Ther voices match perfectly
Anita Baker, is another amazing songstress. You have to listen to her. ❤❤❤❤❤
For real. I always wonder why Anita Baker is not reacted to more often.
She doesn't have a ton of material, but what is out there is more than enough.
One of the best ballads of the 80s and consequently of all time.
I remember first hearing this. Always loved Patti and Michael doing thier own thing, but together it is just like " you stuck your peanut butter in my chocolate."
I bet he did too!
Patti and Michael created magic when they decided to join together to do this song!

@@gregoryvanderpas4176 Their chemistry with each other, the lyrics and their voice's make this such a great love song!!
This song broke hard when it came out. You can't beat Michael McDonalds voice.
Michael’s voce will give you the chills. Check out all of his stuff with the Doobie Brothers.

Classic banger!

Fun fact.

Michael was in California when his part was filmed there. Patti was in New York filming her part. They were not even in the studio together
Yep, this is true! But imagine if they had been in the studio together! Wow wow, pure magic.
Anything with Michael is going to be a hit 😂

If you like soulful duets, you should check out "Fire and Desire" Lady T and Rick James.
Brilliant song
They call Patti Labelle "The Godmother of Soul "!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you need some other songs by Patti to react to, I'd suggest "If Only You Knew," "Love, Need & Want You," and "Kiss Away the Pain."
No one messes with Patti Labelle
Nice our love songs ❤
Another good one to react to is Ever Changing Times by Aretha Franklin and Michael McDonald.

Cool. Please play "25-6-4" by Chicago at Tanglewood. "L-I-V-E". Thank you so very much.
Do Aretha Franklyn and Michael McDonald " ever changing time" thanks.
Reminds me of several women that I loved but never married.
They were literally on 2 different sides of country. When they made this She cut her side Of the song they sent it to him and then he added his part.
This was when slow dancing was a thing.
At 02:40, slim brown feeling it! 🤩🤙💯
🙌
Ashley this is a time when you had to actually play music and be able to sing with feeling remember now you're talking to ladies and you want them to feel
Hi , you have good taste.
Beautiful song and I think in some ways Ms LaBelle sounds like Randy Crawford
Thanks for reacting to some older music
NICE
What you not going to believe when they did this song they in two different states
Patti had sgugch a beautiful voice and when she sang you felt everyone. The only other who caught my by my heart like that was CEE CEE Wynans and Mahalia Jackson.
