They are like creamy peanut butter and popcorn..sweet and smooth with crunch and salt... I love their part. And you're right..we didn't know we needed it.
Not a single one of those 47 ( or Dan Akroyd) got a single dime for making this song. They did it all for charity. I feel like today is artists wouldn't be able to take the time out of their busy schedule to get together for this so it wouldn't be able to be done together in one room like this song was the parts would have to be done separately if they could check their egos at the door and if they didn't expect to be paid. But I feel like it would never happen because modern artists would all want to much money and to be the biggest star in the group.
Quincy Jones did such a fantastic job placing artists together. People who are so different sounding, sound absolutely amazing together. I love Bruch Springsteen and Stevie Wonder together, they just sound so good.
There is no Michael Jackson "version" - this is the one and only with Michael in it - he wrote it and Quincy Jones brought them all together to do this incredible performance.
Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote it. Stevie Wonder was supposed to be a part of writing the song, but they couldn’t get in touch with them until the last minute.
Yeah, Bruce "The Boss" Springsteen. Please react to some of his songs. So many unique, great, beautiful, emotional and masterpieces of songs that guy has blessed us with!
Here is the complete list of all the artists! Lionel Richie 0:25 * Stevie Wonder 0:32 * Paul Simon 0:42 * Kenny Rogers 0:54 * James Ingram 0:59 * Tina Turner 1:05 * Billy Joel 1:12 * Michael Jackson 1:18 * Diana Ross 1:32 * Dionne Warwick 1:48 * Willie Nelson 2:02 * Al Jarreau 2:08 * Bruce Springsteen 2:14 * Kenny Loggins 2:21 * Steve Perry 2:27 * Daryl Hall 2:35 * Michael Jackson 2:41 * Huey Lewis 2:48 * Cyndi Lauper 2:53 * Kim Carnes 3:01 * Bob Dylan 3:48 * Ray Charles 4:41 * Stevie Wonder & Bruce Springsteen 4:53 * Bruce Springsteen 5:31 * James Ingram 6:13 * Ray Charles 6:27
... and, in the choir: Quincy Jones (director) / Smokey Robinson / Randy Jackson / Jackie Jackson / Anita Pointer (Pointer Sisters) / Sheila E./ Bonnie Pointer (Pointer Sisters) / Tito Jackson and La Toya Jackson / Harry Belafonte and Dan Aykroyd / Ruth Pointer (Pointer Sisters) / Jeffrey Osborne / Bette Midler / Lindsey Buckingham (Fleetwood Mac).
I was working in radio at the time this song was released. It was a huge deal. One of the things that has been largely forgotten since the release of this record is that every radio station in America -- regardless of format -- stopped and played this song at the same time. The record was embargoed from airplay, and when it popped, you could go up and down your radio dial and virtually every single station was playing it, all at once. What a debut! And then right about that same time, there was the "Hands Across America," where people from coast-to-coast stood in a long line, holding hands, to form a continuous chain of humanity from the Atlantic to the Pacific. A friend of mine and I were playing golf that day, and we broke our round short to go stand in that line on Highway 80 West in Arlington, Texas (in the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex) just to say we were part of it. Those were pretty amazing times.
Weren't they though? It actually meant something then to be part of something that was in unity and love, instead now, we have so much unity in hate. If you try to even attempt to spread some love, you are labeled in a negative way. It's getting rough out there. For all those who still believe in humanity, stay strong. We live a world and society that makes us believe that loving everyone makes us weak minded and useless in society, but we are the ones that find the light in the dark. Don't ever forget that. We will always be different from the ones that choose to live in the darkness, but maybe, just maybe, we were not made to fit in, but to stand out. May your light shine through the darkness that everyone else sees around you. Don't let anyone take away your light in order for them to feel better about themselves.
You got that absolutely right, hatred, division, separatism. America has lost something in the age of the media....the rich 1% legalized criminals mafia of this country have stolen it by destroying the human spirit of kindness, forgiveness, and hope, with hatred, division, false narratives...and the dumbing down of America Conquer and divide the spoils...."Follow the Money"... That's what it is. I don't trust either side of the fence that shouldn't be there to begin with. I was a public school teacher.
I watched this live on TV. We taped it on our VCR and I watched it over and over again. I was about 7 or 8. I'm white and grew up in a mostly white suburb and was obsessed with Michael Jackson. I was rasied to not judge people based on race, sex or sexual orientation and that we were all equal. This was the message I was taught... Better times.

It'd be tough to replicate this today. There was an attempt in '94 for Haiti, but it didn't feel the same; didn't feel unified. The sign on the way in said "Leave Your Egos At The Door"; no one tried to outshine eachother, they just tried to do the song & service justice. Also, Quincy Jones is the MVP, here. His arrangement of solos, duets, and harmonies are what make this so incredible.

Probably the greatest (most talented) vocals collaboration ever. Every single vocalist here has put out music worth reacting to. Unfortunately, you don't know who they all are. You won't be disappointed if you were to do some research. Looking forward to your reactions.
"We Are the World" is a charity single originally recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985. It was written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Omartian for the album We Are the World. With sales in excess of 20 million copies, it is the eighth-bestselling physical single of all time.
So many legends, from so many different genres. You had rock, folk, R&B/Motown, country, pop... And some of the greatest and most unique voices in the industry all blending together yet retaining their individual sound and style.
A few dozen of the most talented singers on the planet combining their gifts to help some people who really needed it at the time. It should happen more often.
No!!! It shouldn't ever have to happen again! People in Africa were dying for reasons that shouldn't be a part of this world! It undoubtedly will always be happening somewhere. But, for you to wish it to happen, is disgraceful.
The Fun part about watching this is trying to Identify all the Singers, and TRUE 80's Connoisseurs can even Identify the Choir Members that didn't get a spotlight. There was even a GHOSTBUSTER in there!

There were many big names that didn't get a solo and had no problem being in the background such as Harry Belafonte, Smokey Robinson, Lindsey Buckingham, Better Midler, June Pointer (the Pointer sisters) and more. It still brings tears to my eyes, its too bad, we as a nation do not have this unity right now.
To add a bit; The USA project was initiated by Harry Belafonte. He & Ken Kragen (talent manager, activist & fundraiser) were in charge. They chose Quincy to direct & produce, chose MJ & Lionel to write it, obtained the talent, facilities, etc. Harry definitely could have had a solo, but I imagine he wanted to showcase the popular artists of the day, to raise the most money.
I was in high school when this song came out. It was magical and legendary, and your reaction made me feel like I was watching this with fresh eyes. The talent in this room was off the chart! Bruce Springsteen and Stevie Wonder doing a duet, Tina Turner and Billy Joel sharing the same mike. The 1980s was an awesome time for music.
On the morning of April 5, 1985 (Good Friday of that year) at 3:50 pm GMT, over 8,000 radio stations simultaneously broadcast the song around the world. As the song was broadcast, hundreds of people sang along on the steps of St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York. We Are the World" raise more than $80 million ($222 million today) for humanitarian aid in Africa and the United States.
My favourite parts are Springsteen and Wonder duetting together and James Ingram’s last chorus. The part were he says “so let’s start giving” always gives me chills.
As a man who was young when this came out, I can say this song was great to open the new year with good vibes. But after 30 years I wish it hit the same to people out there 💯💓
Stevie Wonder and Bruce Springsteen are one of the most unlikely pairing, but the contrast in their voices was awe inspiring. And l can never get enough of Ray Charles what a treasure he is. Another pairing l loved was Dion Warwick and Willie Nelson. Need to check out Willie and Ray singing Seven Spanish Angels live. Thanks for your reaction.
This generation doesn't have the talent to do something like this This is the best of the best you have Country - Rock - folk -JAZZ BLUES- SOUL- POP there are artists from the 60s 70s 80s in one room
We Are the World" opens with Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, and Billy Joel singing the first verse. Michael Jackson and Diana Ross follow, completing the first chorus together. Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, and Al Jarreau sing the second verse, before Bruce Springsteen, Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, and Daryl Hall go through the second chorus.Co-writer Jackson, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, and Kim Carnes follow with the song's bridge. We Are the World" concludes with Bob Dylan and Ray Charles singing a full chorus, Wonder and Springsteen duetting, and ad libs from Charles and Ingram.
Your energy and unbiased ear reviewing this song along with your interest to know who everyone is (especially Bruce Springsteen and James Ingram)alone equals instant subscriber and fan. And your attitude and how you moved with the song equals =Sexy Lady.
Ashkey "Listen" - A gigantic song written by Lionel Ritchie and Michael Jackson, directed by the equally legendary Quincy Jones. Bringing all these stars and legends together is a significant achievement. As far as I know, after the release more than 25 million dollars were raised and donated to Africa. A song that will last forever!
This song takes me back to the sweltering heat of 1985, I would hear this song being played on the intercom speaker system at the local swimming pool or in the comfort of my air conditioned apartment, watching this video being played on MTv. The guy you reacted to, wanting to know.. (" Whose That ??? ") That was Bruce Springsteen.
Ms. Ashley, I love your energy when listening to old school music. I see the tears almost falling from your eyes. We are the world is a phenomenonal piece. You can watch the making of this here on youtube..enjoy❤
The man that came in at the 5:00 minute mark on your reaction video is Steve Perry from Journey. That band made some of the best pop music from the end of the 70’s into the 80’s. Check out Faithfully and Don’t Stop Believing (live from Houston ‘81). You will NOT be disappointed. Keep krankin’ reactions. You make a difference.
USA for Africa We Are The World 🌎 the song was recorded on January of 1985 and released on March of 1985 my opinion this is one of the greatest songs of all time this song 🎵 is still relevant even till this day in #2023
Okay . . . Love it when you say "this is really old" . . . I'm tryin' not to take that personally . . . but this could never be reproduced. Another time, absolute talents that will never again exist. Magical moments like this are one time events!
What kills me about almost every reaction I’ve seen is no one ever says a word about the lyrical genius Bob Dylan ! The greatest songwriter in the history of music
You did well identifying artists. 10:10 near the end is James Ingram.😃Experiencing this in real time back then was amazing. ❤Watch the documentary Making of for this - inspiring!
Thanks for appreciating the best Collab of artistes of the70s, 89s even 60 - Ray Charles. It was a hit when were young adults in the 80s. Much thanks for appreciating good music spreading this to your generation!
Ashley, you are so young, beautiful and innocent. I say that with the kindest of respect. I loved watching your reaction as much as enjoyed watching We Are The World live along with the rest of the world back in 1985. Of course I am from a different generation. It is adorable that you have no idea who many of the artists are. They were the tops in their field at the time. You should look up information about the recording, and who the artist were. I think you will be surprised that you have probably heard a lot of their music, if you had ever listened to classic rock. These were wonderful times back then when we did not have so many of the struggles that the world is experiencing now. I believe my generation in many ways were the founders so to speak of we want all people, from all walks of life, from all over the world to be considered as one. One people no matter of race, creed, religious beliefs, and so on. They were good times, and I am so happy to watch you experience such a monumental time in my generations history. Peace and love my friend.
That man is Bruce Springsteen. The Boss👍 . Love your reaction to this once in a lifetime happening. I was 24 when this came out and I remember when it premiered on MTV😀 Great times in the 80s❤
Almost all of these featured Artists were iconic in their day..please check out Bruce Springsteen, (the one that came in hard), Steve Perry from Journey, and Hall and Oates (Blue eyed soul). They have so many good ass songs. You'll appreciate this way more after you do.
Another song to check out that was for a certain cause was the song "That's What Friends Are For" by Dionne Warwick ft. Stevie Wonder, Elton John and Gladys Knight. If you've never heard this song before, you definitely will not be disappointed.
This was a once in a life time room full of legends singing their hearts out for a great cause. Sad thing I’d I don’t think anyone could ever top this performance with that many iconic legends with extremely great vocals. I loved your reaction thank you
One night they did this in one night!!!!! Quincy Jones put out the call and they came. See the documentary about this video. Thats a choir in heaven OGEE 58
Rip Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Michael Jackson, Ray Charles, Al Jarreau, Waylon Jennings, June Pointer and Anita Pointer, Anita Pointer was June Pointer sister she died on December 31 2022 from cancer, June Pointer died on April 11 2006 from cancer Waylon Jennings joined with USA for Africa to record We Are the World, but he left the Studio because of a dispute over the song's lyrics that were to be sung in Swahili, He was in a band called the Highwayman with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson, Waylon and Johnny were Roommates, Waylon Jennings died on February 13 2002 from complications of diabetes he was 64, Johnny Cash died on September 12 2003 four months after his wife June Carter Cash death he was 71
I was 9, and I remember this moment vividly in time. Drought had leveled the crops across Africa, which led to unprecedented levels of famine, fighting and disease. This was a response to that, and a global effort to deliver food, clothing and medicine was led by countries across the entire world. I cry when I think about it because I feel like that world is largely gone.
The “That’s What Friends Are For” live performance with Dionne Warwick Luther Vandross Whitney Houston and Stevie Wonder is an amazing performance definitely worth the watch also years ago we had artist come together to do a song for Haiti based off this
Look up the reason for this song. It was a time that we in america just found out that children were starving in Africa.. we didnt know.. All the proceeds were sent to help the starving children. It raised about 75 million.. back in 1985
There is a song "American Pie" - (The day the music died) about a plane crash that took the lives of Buddy Holly, The Big Bopper, and Ritchie Valens in 1959. It occurred to me - that if a plane had crashed into the studio where they were recording - it would have taken about 50 huge stars away from us. That would have truly been the day the music died.
I still get goosebumps whenever I hear this. And while I know you don't know all the artists, rest assured every single one of them is a superstar. In order of appearance, they are: Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Al Jarreau, Bruce Springsteen (the one you asked about), Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, Daryl Hall, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, Kim Carnes, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles. The chorus included these artists (alphabetically): Dan Aykroyd, Harry Belavonte, Lindsey Buckingham, Mario Cipollina (of Huey Lewis & the News), Johnny Colla (of Huey Lewis & the News), Sheila E., Bob Geldof, Bill Gibson (of Huey Lewis & the News), Chris Hayes (of Huey Llewis & the News), Sean Hopper (of Huey Lewis & the News), Jackie Jackson, La Toya Jackson, Marlon Jackson, Randy Jackson, Tito Jackson, Waylon Jennings, Bette Midler, John Oates, Jeffrey Osborne, Anita, June and Ruth Pointer (the Pointer Sisters), Smokey Robinson. The project was produced by Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson, and the group was conducted by Quincy Jones. Interestingly, 25 years later, an updated version of the song with a whole new batch of artists was done to raise money for Haiti, and that version is quite remarkable as well. Like the original, it includes a wide array of diverse stars from the music world, and even expands to include a verse done in rap. Any time you can get both rap and Tony Bennett all in one song, it's a must-listen. ruclips.net/video/S0NfzmgNvSA/видео.html

Simply the best legends ever the cream of the cream in the history of USA music. All of them.
Ms. Ashley, I love your energy when listening to old school music. I see the tears almost falling from your eyes. We are the world is a phenomenonal piece. You can watch the making of this here on youtube..enjoy❤
You have an absolutely beautiful smile you light up the room when you do that❤
These are some of the artists of the 80's...80's had the best must point blank...you should look at list of all of them and do some of their songs
At my age, it's fun to watch young folks react to this and see how many people they can identify.... :)
USA for Africa We Are The World 🌎 the song was recorded on January of 1985 and released on March of 1985 my opinion this is one of the greatest songs of all time this song 🎵 is still relevant even till this day in #2023
Je pense également que c’est une des plus grandes chansons de tous les temps.
Elle fait parti de mon Top5.
✊🏼🙏🏼❤️
Okay . . . Love it when you say "this is really old" . . . I'm tryin' not to take that personally . . . but this could never be reproduced. Another time, absolute talents that will never again exist. Magical moments like this are one time events!
James Ingram. Wow. Just wow. RIP, but wow, what a voice.
4:10 That guy is Bruce Springsteen
One of the greatest charitable collaborations of all time. Thanks for your reaction.
The all star choir of all time ! Wow!!
Young lady welcome to the greatest talents in music history from the greatest decades. Pre 2000's
That man is Bruce Springsteen. The Boss👍 . Love your reaction to this once in a lifetime happening. I was 24 when this came out and I remember when it premiered on MTV😀 Great times in the 80s❤
Pure joy and love ❤️ 😊 we need to hear this
Such fun watching the joy on your face. I’ll even overlook the fact that you didn’t recognize Bruce Springsteen haha
There are hundreds of reactions to this out there. Even with you not knowing a lot of these singers, your reaction is the Best. Period.
This was a once in a life time room full of legends singing their hearts out for a great cause. Sad thing I’d I don’t think anyone could ever top this performance with that many iconic legends with extremely great vocals. I loved your reaction thank you
That's Quincy Jones conducting. He was the mastermind behind this!

*********GOOD Choice! With STEVIE is BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN! This Unmatched Group of Artists raised $75 MILLION for the FAMINE in AFRICA.
The Best of the Best!
Thank you for your sweet beautiful reaction of this beautiful song that we need today.
I still get goosebumps whenever I hear this. And while I know you don't know all the artists, rest assured every single one of them is a superstar. In order of appearance, they are:
Lionel Richie, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Kenny Rogers, James Ingram, Tina Turner, Billy Joel, Michael Jackson, Diana Ross, Dionne Warwick, Willie Nelson, Al Jarreau, Bruce Springsteen (the one you asked about), Kenny Loggins, Steve Perry, Daryl Hall, Huey Lewis, Cyndi Lauper, Kim Carnes, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles.
