If you haven’t checked out Michael McDonald yet you are in for a treat! Go back to the Doobie Brothers Takin’ It To The Streets album and go from there. Also his voice is all over Steely Dan’s Aja album and also Christopher Cross’s Sailing album. He was so popular in the late 70’s and early 80’s that every producer wanted his voice on their albums.
I was in love with them both, the voices, the song, the lyrics and how they looked. When this was a hit I went on my own and I am almost 60 years now, greetings from the Netherlands 🥰
Michael McDonald has the most incredible bluesy voice - check out his tunes with the Dobbie Brothers. - of course, she is great as well. This is when you had to have real talent - not auto or studio hyjinks.
Thing is Patti and Michael never met each other until after their duet. When they recorded the song they were on opposite coast..shows how awesome they really are!!!
Patti and Michael have done as much for other musicians as has ever occurred in their life! They’re great people! So good…they are silk with each other!
These two vocalists are each great in their own right. She has a unique clarity and he has a more nasal register, but both are powerful. The contrast meshes magically. Love it, Sarah.
2 phenomenal vocalists who were both very popular and a bunch of hits in the 80's. Michael McDonald was the lead vocalist for the Doobie Brothers for a few years and I bet you've heard at least one of their late 70's and 80's hits (What A Fool Believes, Takin' It To The Streets, Minute By Minute, etc). I'm also sure you've probably heard his biggest 80's hit, I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near), or at least some of the music from it (it was sampled by the rap artist Warren G for his song Regulate and a it's also been sampled by a couple other rap/hip hop artists).
I love your reaction to these two greats. Their catalogs as solo artists and with their groups Ms. Labelle with Labelle and Mr. McDonald with The Doobie Brothers is impeccable. But this duet here-sheer mastery!!!!! Michael McDonald and The Late James Ingram have a great duet in "Yah Mo Be There" as well. But I love your emotional reaction to this song here that is as you said in your opening "A Classic."
Patti laBelle one of the greatest and most beautiful voices of all time, you surely know Lady Marmalade with her gimmick: "Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir?" well it is Patti laBelle who created this timeless hit. Great video! I advise you to listen and watch the duo Patti laBelle and Cyndi Lauper who sing Lady Marmelade, it's huge!!!!
Hi Sarah! Patti LaBelle & Michael McDonald duet songs at its best so timeless and good! Suggestion another amazing song. "Patti LaBelle - Change is gonna come" (Live one night only)
It's years back but I think you'll enjoy (Your Love Keeps Lifting Me) Higher and Higher - Jackie Wilson - Fred Astaire and Rita Hayworth HD ruclips.net/video/0GaKMeX7t3c/видео.html
Patti, Miss LaBelle has been a Diva for quite awhile, she is at the epitome of her game, she takes Second to No-One. You have heard Michael McDonald. He is in the “Doobie Brothers”, ( they’ve started their ‘21-‘22 Tour) What a Fool Believes, Minute By Minute, Taking it to the Streets, Whenever I Call You Friend, he’s also done back up work for “Steely Dan” & “Kenny Loggins”. This has got to be the “Best” Break up song ever! Check out the Production Values, California vs New York. The letter Patty crumbles up in NY shows up on Michaels table in CA. The same Boxes/Luggage in both places, hell they even have the same Cactus. The Voices are beyond compare, Patti is at her Best and Michael is in Top Notch form. I’m a Big Fan. I also requested this Women for “Female Friday” before….SanJoséBob
And that was Burt? Did not know that. Your reaction was perfect. You allowed the emotinal intensity of this song to fully envelope every one of your senses. Pure magic!
New sub here. Have you heard Roberta Flack - First Time Ever I Saw Your Face (one of my favorites from the 70's)? I heard this on the radio the night of my first date with a guy I fell in love with...at least I thought so. Maybe it was the song that wooed me? 😊
Your comment is missing only you focus on the voices of Patty and Michael. What do you think of the music, the arrangements, the beautiful choruses? And, especially and above all, what do you think of the video Patty and Michael act out the lyrics of the song? The video is beautiful, two shots, two places, far and near shots, they talk, they seem to be together but unfortunately they get divorced.
many people mistook michael mcdonald for a black man, not quite believing this voice could come from a white man! love sees no colour, so it matters not :) always been a favourite song of mine, simply beautiful and always brings tears to my eyes because I have loved and lost love. ah, life's rich tapestry x
Two greats together. BTW Michael McDonald - Was a member of the group Steely Dan with Jeff (Skunk) Baxter. Steely Dan - had a huge hit with - Ricky Don't Lose That Number - Michael was held back in that band and he didn't begin to shine until he joined the Doobie Brothers after his buddy Jeff did,. My favorite Michael McDonald song is the original studio version of the Doobie Brothers' -- Takin' It To The Streets - I love the bass line in that one. Then there is Michael on keyboard & vocals
You should check out the old hit Lady Marmalade from the band Labelle. It was a trio of women singers, Patti Labelle one of them. Great song, kind of a funky almost pre-disco song. Listen to the original, there was a remake for movie Moulen Rouge. Has famous risque french chorus that we all thought was very cool when we were basically babies. The whole album it came from, Nightbirds, was very good. Labelle broke up long ago, and all 3 women had good long solo careers.
This song is simply wonderful, the clip was sensational, here in Brazil, we had great music at this time. but now there is nothing good... thanks for sharing.
Isaiah 60:7-8 King James Version 7 All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory. 8 Who are these that fly as a cloud, and as the doves to their windows?
2 fantastic powerhouse vocalists and a great Burt Bacharach tune! Classic!
Patti LaBelle - Lady Marmalade 1975 - The lyrics everyone remembers
Gitchie, gitchie, ya-ya, da-da (hey, hey, hey)
Gitchie, gitchie, ya-ya, here (here)
Mocha Chocolata, ya-ya (ooh, yeah)
Creole Lady Marmalade
(What-what? What-what?)
Ooh, oh
Voulez-vous coucher avec moi, ce soir?
Voulez-vous coucher avec moi?
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

She was in New York and he was in California. Michael McDonald has one of the blues voices around.
And to think they recorded their parts separately.
and the video too...
Two of the greatest singers in history! They have voices like no other. Such a beautiful song!😊
What a fabulous pairing.Whoever suggested putting them together, was a genius.
Perfec ❤❤❤❤❤
I was in love with them both, the voices, the song, the lyrics and how they looked. When this was a hit I went on my own and I am almost 60 years now, greetings from the Netherlands 🥰
Absolutely
❤❤
It was Patti's solo song she suggested Michael and the song be sung as a duet.
Fabulous song!!! They are both marvelous singers. Chills every time I hear this!
Chills!!!! These two together are pure magic! ❤
Michael Mcdonald has such a soulful voice !!
When this was released on the radio and aired on the video channels , they had not even met. They recorded, and filmed their parts separately.
She is speechless at hearing Michael’s voice.
Great to see her loving this song.
Michael McDonald has the most incredible bluesy voice - check out his tunes with the Dobbie Brothers. - of course, she is great as well. This is when you had to have real talent - not auto or studio hyjinks.
@@pockynon Agreed 100%

Thing is Patti and Michael never met each other until after their duet. When they recorded the song they were on opposite coast..shows how awesome they really are!!!
I had the privilege of seeing Ms. Labelle in concert and she's more amazing live. ❤
Patti and Michael have done as much for other musicians as has ever occurred in their life! They’re great people! So good…they are silk with each other!

These two we're meant to sing together God Bless
What a love song.
A MASTERPIECE SONG BY TWO SUPERB TITANS IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. WRITTEN BY A GENIUS SONG WRITER. WE WILL NEVER HAVE THIS QUALITY TODAY. NEVER.
The power of music and the beautiful expression on her face! Magnifico!!!
Wasn't it just fire???? Listen to Michael sing "I keep forgetting ".....he is a powerhouse. Patti LaBelle is amazing. A match made in Heaven!

un tema muy elegante y sincero👍
te recomiendo " Woman in Chains" del grupo Tears for Fears.
This song makes my heart ache for the past. I was a young 24 year old stationed at Nellis Air Force Base when this song came out. Miss the 80's.
This song is just so powerful
Songs like this back then , were magic, magical. Still are today. Very dreamy.
oh yeahhh the best from the 80's is there ...
He is chills but together the passion is tangible
#1 US Hit for almost half a year in 1986
Here's another one that shows how unique & powerful Patti LaBelle's voice was 🙂

Dang straight she's gorgeous ❣️
That first shot of her in those black gloves is so powerful.
Love them both. Patty has such class & they both have such unique voices. Beautiful song but sad at the same time.
Another duet featuring Michael McDonald and James Ingram you should hear:
ruclips.net/video/cLeOyNSES7g/видео.html
Why is that song so emotional .............. When it's a break up song shouldn't we feel anger instead we would want them back together
I’m so glad I have lived this era. It’s a blessing to hear those titans of music
And that was Burt? Did not know that. Your reaction was perfect. You allowed the emotinal intensity of this song to fully envelope every one of your senses. Pure magic!

Listen to Michael Mcdonald and James Ingram Ya mo be there 🙏 it's awesome
Both Patty and Michael have been around for a long time. Check out other songs they're done.
Now we're up to talking divorce.
And we weren't even married.
So sad.

Your reactions are just as nice as the songs.
A great song from Patti Labelle is called "If Only You Knew"
❤
A classic… I remember my first time
hearing MM and this pretty much was my reaction as well. One of my fav singers
I am so happy for those of your generation to discover wonderful singers, beautiful songs from the Boomer generation! ❤

What I find surprising is they never did another duet together.
