I let my kids hear the voices of my generation…… always played them in our house…… My husband and I would play Jazz, Rock, Motown, even Big Band stuff !!!
Our kids loved all of it !!!! Still to this day they listen to it, know the words, so they can sing ….. our house was always rockin !!!

It's comical to read the hate for Patti Labelle. They just don't get it. She was 57 at the time she sang this, for like the 10,000th time in her career, twenty years after it was released. And she gave it everything that she had on that day. If you don't like the performance, fine. I loved it. I loved that she walked right up to the edge and let it all out, again, at that age, singing a song that could hardly inspire her at this point. Also, how crazy is it that people, on a free website, criticize a performance from 20 years ago?

I was a LIMO driver and drove Patti home from ATLANTIC CITY to her home in Philadelphia and she told me to come in her house and I waited and she came our in her pajamas and was like a little child, I seen her perform and her image changed while singing like magic, I believe she transformed into something very magical and I was mesmerized.

I'm a '86 baby and I remember hearing this song when I was six in '92. Even then at a young age Patti's range and Michael's hearty earthy voice gave me goosebumps. Now that I'm older and have experienced heartbreak this song brings gives me chills and tears to my eyes....beautiful!

Labelle screeched selfishly to the point that she lost the melody of the song, this was very poor
i'd much prefer it if had Patti cut out about half of the self-indulgent over-singing and stuck to the original beautiful melody like Michael did.

Although they would have rehearsed this performance. Everynight they performed this song together it would have taken on a life of its own. No two performances would have been the same. This song has so many memories, bittersweet ones, when I was 17 years old and it was in the charts at the time and I bought it on vinyl, my first ever serious relationship was coming to an end, I was the one that ended it and hurt him badly which I have never forgiven myself for 32 years on, I cried buckets full of tears every time I walked past him in the street, he was a good guy and treat me right, I cared deeply for him but my love for him had died and a one sided relationship will never work, so after listening to this song after so so long, tonight, it has brought all the memories flooding back, good, bad and very sad, sorry for the boring corny story, I'm getting nostalgic in my old age lol x
