This was a HUGE HIT!! Michael is a BiG artist too. Patti LaBelle is AWESOME. 🎉
#1 for 3 weeks un June of 1986.
One of the best duets EVER! Nothing quite like 70s & 80s music. ✌🤟🤘
90's ;)
60s
💯
Absolutely nothing
Along with Barry Gibbs, and Barbra Streisand!
I absolutely love this song. I could listen to it over and over again.
This IS my favorite duet of all-time.
Gives me the chills, the good ones. Phenomenal voices...
One of the smoothest duets EVER!
Aretha Franklin and George Michael have a duet together called “I Knew You Were Waiting For Me” that I think you’d really like.
Tina Turner and Bryan Adams duet is pretty awesome too.
Yes yes yes!!!
This song came out when I was in college. I listened to it for days after I my girlfriend and I broke up. Here's a bit of trivia...they recorded their parts before the ever met face to face. The song wasn't written as a duet. The writers, Carole Bayer Sager and Burt Bacharach, recorded a backing track (a record of the song without vocals). Ms. Patti sang her vocals to that track. They later asked Michael McDonald to contribute to the song. They weren't even in the same city to film the video. That added to the "Feel" of a relationship falling apart.
I've loved this song since it first came out on MTV. Michael also has collabs with James Ingram and Toni Braxton respectively. He was a member of the Doobie Brothers.
I suggested this before...."When something is wrong with my baby", Patti Labelle and Travis Tritt....crazy good!
Love love love this tune!!!
Two beautiful voices for such a sad song :)
You 've heard Michael as the later singer for 'the Doobie Brothers'...'What a Fool Believes'...etc
Michael McDonald's "Ain't No Mountain" is off the charts
Go back even further and listen to LaBelle. The female group. Lady Marmalade. Great song.
hey guys! I love your reactions because they are so genuine, and it's so obvious that you love each other and what you're doing. Amber, since you two are teachers, I think you would get a real kick out of the song, "Harper Valley PTA", by Jeannie C. Riley, an oldie but a goodie. Have a great week...can't wait to see what you react to next!
Their voices really match well - soulful & smooth! Please check out other Michael McDonald alone & as part of The Doobie Brothers!!
If you like Michael's voice, he was also with the Doobie Brothers and did solo stuff, you would like Michael Bolton who has similar voice.
This was the background music for some of my greatest romances. Sigh.
Michael McDonald is the lead singer from The Doobie Bros.
Want to hear another really good salt and pepper duet? :) Aretha Franklin/George Michael - I Knew You Were Waiting. So good. Pls listen to it!
Michael McDonald has one of the most recognizable voice in Music. He was also a member of the Doobie Brothers as well as a stellar solo career.
And harmonized with Steely Dan, Christopher Cross, James Ingram, and many more...also helped Van Halen on "I'll Wait..."
God I love Michael McDonald's voice so much. I can be perfectly happy and then hear this song and end up blubbing like a fool. This song just makes me emotional.
Especially if it takes you back to a special time, like starting high school for me.
Michael McDonald's voice is the perfect tone for this song
Michael McDonald’s my favourite male singer…..gets me in a mess every time too!
They were on opposite sides of the Country, Patti recording her part in NYC, and Michael McDonald recording his part in L.A. This is reflected in the scenes of the video... This was quite ground-breaking at the time, especially a portrayal of an interracial relationship.. quite a bold position for both the artists, and the Record company to take, considering it was 1986... Masterpiece!!
Ground breaking...if you consider the fact that almost 20 years had passed since the Supreme Court's ruling in the landmark Loving v. Virginia case that made interracial marriage legal in this country. But yes, I get it. America tends to move verrrrrrry slow on most things. Especially things relating to race. Sad, but true.
Actually, in the 80s and 90s there were lots of interracial duets, to the point that it almost became a gimmick. But this was a great one.
I was there when the song came out, the racial aspect had little surprise or ground-breaking to it since MANY bands had members of different races since the 60's, and lots of people intermingled.
MAYBE, just maybe if you were in the DEEP SOUTH in 'bigoted/prejudiced/racist territories' it may have been a thing.
Jim Crow was ended 20 years prior.
I'm tired of people making like The United States of America was still like it was in 1786 in 1986.
And today's racial narrative of WS everywhere, by the MSM and DEMS, is BS.
I've yet to see one in real life.
They are so few it's not worth talking about.
@@surfersilver6610 Thank you. Where do people get these ideas? It's weird. Haha
Very True! But then as we ALL know, people across ALL races & genders fell in LOVE with this song. And it quickly became a Timeless Masterpiece! On My Own holds a special meaning for many of us who adore it. 🥰
This collaboration could just be one of the GREATEST OF ALL-TIME!!! Bravo!!!!!
Patti is known for blowing people out of the water when singing LIVE. This song does not show that. Plus Michael is an extraordinarily strong singer. I recommend Patti and Cindi Laupers classic duet of Time after Time which is Cyndi Laupers single. It can be found on ..you tube as a video from a Patti Labelle special. . . The history is that few people expected Cyndi to be able hold own against Patti . But that video showed 2 artist at their best ! It became a classic
Sounds fantastic! Thank you
@@RobSquadReactions This is amazing Song & Duet But this is actually a light version of Patti. Patti Normally goes Super Saiyan When she sings.
This song reached #1 on Billboard Hot 100 in 1986.
Yep, Cindy was one of the few artists that could hold her own with Patty, and she did a Awesome job! 🤗
@@RobSquadReactions IT IS‼️
Michael McDonald was in the Doobie brothers before he went solo. His voice seems to just blend with anyone very easy. In the early to mid 80s it seemed like he was on every slow song made somewhere in the background. "I keep forgetting" was probably his biggest hit as a solo artist. But many duets with legends like Aretha Franklin and James Ingram.
They've done the Doobie Brothers a few times, a couple with Michael leading. They'd know this guy was that guy if they read comments, but they never do. If you comment here to your fellow viewers, your comment will be received by your fellow viewers. If you address your comments to the hosts, you're talking to empty space. They aren't here in the comments.
I would love to see Jordan react to “I keep forgetting”. I wonder if it’ll seem familiar to the self proclaimed rap fan. He’d love the falsetto, for sure.
@@BlackHatCinephile I believe Jay and Amber look through the comments - they talk about it at times, but there are thousands of comments and they can’t possibly read and respond to each in detail. With three young kids at home AND three videos a day, where could they possibly find the time?
@@scottNNJ They SAY they look at comments, but they're lying. If they just quickly skimmed over comments, they'd know George is a Beatle, Joe is an Eagle and a James Gang, and Michael is a Doobie. They're playing us for fools. Don't play along.
@@scottNNJ hes telling the truth, they NEVER pat any attention to their audience, their supporters on here. It's sad but true, never once will you see them "like" a comment, they may look at the Instagram comments (maybe) but they get most of their recommendations from their patreon people, so basically if your not paying them they will NEVER notice you...
The most memorable thing I ever heard about Patti is when Joe Cocker said singing with Patti is like being hit by a freight train. Such power! ❤ her voice.
I've always loved this song, ever since it first came out. The pairing of these two singers was a stroke of genius!
People across ALL races & genders fell in LOVE with this song. And it quickly became a Timeless Masterpiece! On My Own holds a special meaning for many of us who adore it. 🥰
.....and ages. I was only 12, and it touched me.
"New Attitude" is a must Patti LaBelle song. That song was everywhere in the 80's. That song was an anthem for the 80's.
YES!!!
It’s on the Beverly Hills Cop soundtrack so of course it’s an anthem of the 80s 🙌🏾❤️
Michael McDonald's voice gives me chills. Every. Time. So much emotion! This is such a great duet, & Patti's belt is so effortless!
You should listen to Michael McDonald sing TAKING IT TO THE STREETS. His soulful voice gives the music an urgency it would otherwise lack. As for miss Labelle, this duet came during her heyday in the 8o's along with her hot dance number, NEW ATTITUDE.
You might do a comparison of her original hit of LADY MARMALADE and later cover featuring, Pink, Christina Aguilera, Mya, 'Lil Kim & Missy Elliott. Both camps have their favorites. It would be interesting to see which one you guys prefer.
Also, Michael McDonald deserves a solo listen with his mourning after heartbreak revelation, I KEEP FORGETTING.
Michael is a YES!
I keep Forgetting, What A Fool Believes, Sweet Freedom, Takin It to the Streets, This is It. Just to name a few great songs by this legend.
Check out the original "Lady Marmalade" by Labelle. No remake comes close. Also check out "Make me smile" by Chicago, it could be your theme song!
If they do ‘make me smile’ they need to do the lead in ‘Colour My Love’ live from Tangelwood June 1970 and of course from that concert; 25 or 6 to 4. Great performance especially guitar solo by terry Kath
The original lady marmalade compare nothing to Christina's vervision.
Abe they beat you to the punch with Make Me Smile. They did it something like 4-5 months ago.
Fantasia did a great job live in honor of Patti LaBelle!! It's on RUclips. Love Fantasia-------Collard Greens and Cornbread
"Smile" by Vitamin C should be their theme song.
Patti LaBelle is right up there with Aretha Franklin, Gladys Knight, Roberta Flack and Ella Fitzgerald. This song R&B meshed with Disco. I remember when it hit the radio.
Can’t forget Tina Turner
@@clare1061 and dionne warwick
Michael McDonald I Keep Forgettin is amazing.
Michael McDonald is a trail you definitely want to pursue. Check out his tunes Sweet Freedom, I Keep Forgetting, I Gotta Try, Yah Mo Be There (sung with James Ingram) and then you have all his Doobie Brothers stuff: Takin It to the Streets, It Keeps You Runnin, What a Fool Believes, Real Love, Minute by Minute.
And the ultimate jam...I can let go now!
AMEN!
Nothing against him, but if I hear "Yah Mo B There" one more time, I'm going to "Yah Mo" burn this place to the ground.
@@st0n3p0ny 😂
@@st0n3p0ny what does ya mo be there really mean? I have never been able to find out! And I totally agree with you about burning this place down if I ever have to hear that song again.
This song is the ultimate example of how to compliment each other through voices.
One of the best duets out there.
Where to even start with Patti!! There are so many performances that will blow you away. This song is great but doesn’t really showcase the powerhouse she is.
Superwoman with Patti, Dionne Warwick, and Gladys Knight on Oprah… Amazing.
Her tribute to Aretha Franklin on the essence awards “Ain’t No Way” is a must. “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” on Arsenio Hall. “Need A Little Faith” and “All The Man I Need” from her live in New York dvd.
From when she was with the group Labelle…”Take The Night Off” and “Phoenix” are two of my favorites.
Absolutely spot on!
This was one of the best Duets ever. Check out Michael McDonald "I keep forgetting". In my opinion, he's the best blue-eyed soul singer.
This song always brings tears. It was so sad but so beautiful too.
Patti is a treasure for sure! As for Michael McDonald, he was in the Doobie Brothers before going solo. His hit "I Keep Forgettin'" is fire! A cool, funky showcase of his vocals.
Ms. La Belle has such control over her voice (instrument). Devastatingly talented, both of them. Gorgeous voices, lyrics--the whole package.
Oh yeah !!! They are a couple of Diamonds in the Music Industry 💎 ❣️
probably the best duet from 1986 for sure !
A one in a million glorious song by two of the most talented artists of our time!
Michael McDonald songs I Keep Forgettin and What Fool Believes, both great songs
Patti's music is definitely worth taking a deep dive into! She's definitely got a whole lot more! Michael McDonald was a member of the Doobie Brothers and Steely Dan, but he also sang for many other bands. He's definitely also worth diving into, as well as the Doobie Brothers. Both Patti and Michael were/are legendary! Thanks for this reaction!
Christopher Cross is another one he sang with
I know Patti LaBelle is a baking entrepreneur, but it's still shocking to me that anyone knows her as that first instead of a diva singer. I worked at Kings Dominion in Richmond, VA in 1985 and when Patti came to perform that year the park was PACKED. So many people showed up for her they had to close it down. Amazing.
Patti LaBelle is now known for baking?? Lady Marmalade? Wow. I am BEHIND the times!
@@lcharles5909 Me too. I had no idea.
Yea, I didn't realize she went into baking myself until about two years ago. I grew up listening to her.
Miss Patti’s voice just gives me chills every time. Her version of “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” (live) is a three-hanky tear jerker! So so good. Then of course Michael McDonald is just legendary. Great pick! 🔥🤙
You guys have heard Michael McDonald. He sang with the Doobie Brothers. He sang on their song, "What a Fool Believes" and you reacted to that song. He's a blue eyed soul singer.
How could you not have heard Patty Lebelle sing. And Michael McDonald enough said. Together beautiful and unbeatable music.
So happy you finally got to this one! Patti's "If Only You Knew" is a MUST listen! And remember, there is no auto-tune with Patti - just pure unadulterated heaven-sent talent.
That is a must, If you only knew
Oh, I love that song.
Two powerhouses together wow
Michael McDonald besides having a very big solo career was with the band The Doobie Brothers which had some pretty awesome hits like Minute By Minute and What A Fool Believes.. Patti started in the Girl Band Days of the 1960s and has a lot of awesome songs.. I liked when she changed her look from the 70s and went 80s with her song New Attitude from that period.
These two together are phenominal.Patti the Powerhouse and Mellow Michael McDonald, but he can falcetto when he needs to.
Love "On my Own". Riveting, just Riveting.
You should hear her SANG "Somewhere Over The Rainbow". It's a spectacular, awe inspiring, chill inducing musical MASTERPIECE!
A great duet for you to listen to is Rick James and Teena Marie's "Fire and Desire". The first thing most of us think of with Rick James is "Super freak", but he is a lot more than that. And Teena Marie's voice is so powerful. It's a great collaboration.
Teena Marie should definitely be reacted to. Yes it should be “Fire and Desire”. Most definitely!!!!!
Yes! Teena Marie!
THIS!!
Their voices take you to another place. Just beautiful.
Great duet, I've always loved this song. Another great Patti LaBelle song is "Somebody Loves You Baby (You Know Who It Is)".
Patti LaBelle “Oh People”, a very powerful and meaningful song. And “Stir it up” is a song I dare you to listen to and try to stay still :)
This is one of the best duets every recorded. Now that you've heard it, let's move on. Take a listen to the Tedeschi-Trucks Band "Midnight In Harlem".. ruclips.net/video/6GkdCiqsFUI/видео.html
This song hit different when you've experienced real heartbreak from a relationship.....
You guys MUST do a reaction to Peter Frampton - Do you Feel Like I Do !! You will BOTH BE SHOOK by this - Will become one of your favorites - 1975 Midnight Special vid !! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPOINTED !!!!!! ENJOY !!
ruclips.net/video/6ohH6rrFJPU/видео.html
One of my favorite duets of the 80's.
She has so many songs, but “If You Asked Me To” is amazing. Celine Dion covered this after Patti - I prefer Patti’s version!
My favorite Patti LaBelle song, it's perfect.
That song is so special. She watched one of her sisters succumb to cancer in the hospital, then shot the video the same day. I know damn well that I would never have the strength to do that.
They're both incredible, brilliant, beautiful musicians respectively. what amazing talents..!!
A nice duet would be Peaches and Herb doing "Reunited"
I heard that song about 10,000 times on the radio when I was a kid.
So this is Patti in a more laid back song. And, of course, Michael McDonald is from the Doobie Brothers. Check out Patti's "Lady Marmalade" and ANYTHING Doobie Brothers. Both legends.....
Check out “New Attitude”!! A great Patti Labelle song
I grew up with this classic in the UK in the 80s....they still play it on radio regularly
Another fantastic reaction video. This song is on one of my playlists and even today (old guy, here) still gives me goosebumps when Patti starts to sing. Stay safe, you two 👍🏽 ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
I remember this when it came out, what a beautiful song.
The Bluebelles, Labelle & Patti solo are 3 rabbit holes you will love, 60 yrs of hits! There is nothing she can't sing. The Bluebelles were formed in the 60s. The harmonies of Patti, Nona Hendryx & Sarah Dash are unmatched on any Labelle track. We can thank Labelle for the futuristic costumes that KISS wore. KISS's manager called their manager & used their costume designer the legendary Larry LeGaspi. Patti performed The Acid Queen with The Who, video on YT. She the epitome of versatility. Powerhouse vocalist.
My favorite Labelle song is Isn't It A Shame. They sang their damn faces off on that.
There are SPECIAL Singers that come along only once in a while and Patty is most definitely one of these as her voice is sooo Powerful ! I've seen other famous singers do a duet with her ,standing by her side ,but when she really lets that voice go ,they have to move slowly away from her a little bit as her voice is so loud and powerful ,you can't say that about many ,but her yes !
If you like Patti, and I know you like a banger, check this out; ruclips.net/video/pF2otwl4ros/видео.html
the original, often covered, Lady Marmalade from 1974, by Labelle. Enjoy.
You guys love The Doobie Brothers, Michael McDonald is singing lead. He's amazing & so are the Doobies.
Patti is one of the best and Michael was pretty good too. He held his own against a top female singer. Some might not know he was part of the Doobie brothers
Damnnnnn Patty LaBelles voice is AMAZING ....a legend
I would love to know who the arranger producer of this magic was. In the eighties you were usually in studio with musicians, back ground singers and the artist/artists. These two were actually on two separate coasts singing their separate parts. This arrangement was an incredible duet, especially in this time. Absolutely love both of them together and in their singles career. No one belts it out like my Patty. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
If you haven't reacted to it already, another great duet is Aretha and George Michael. "I Knew You Were Waiting. "
So powerful! One of the best duets of all time!
Two legendary singers from the 70’s and 80’s. I remember when this song came out they did seem like an odd match. It just shows how magical it can be when you combine two great singers from totally different genres of music. Great review guys love this song.
Two of the finest voices to ever come out of the USA!
This was HUGE and still love hearing this song. At the end you can really tell how great their voices went together. 👍👍👍
Listen to Patti doing: "If You Asked Me To". Awesome song! The original video is the best version.
Great voices! Please react to another great duet: Eddie Rabbitt and Crystal Gale - You and I💕
Hi y'all. Listen to "If you asked me to" by Patti and "I keep forgetting" by Michael. Both are 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Patti La Belle song to listen to is "If only you knew"
Was about to suggest that one. I feel it showcases Patti's talent perfectly.
This ^. If you want to hear what patti can really do vocally. Have to listen to “if only you knew.”
Check out Patti Labelle's "The Best is Yet to Come" It really showcases her range. You will love it.
Yes and the legendary Grover Washington Jr. was a genius to put her voice to pair with his peerless saxaphone
BRILLIANT IN EVERYWAY !!
You already reacted to "What a Fool Believes", so you've heard Michael McDonald who is in this song. There is no mistaking Michael's voice. He is also on Christopher Cross' song "Ride Like the Wind"
I was just about to make the same comment. His lead on the Doobie's "Takin It To The Streets" is platinum. And he was everywhere in the 70's and 80's: doing backing vocals for Christopher Cross, Kenny Loggins, Steely Dan, Toto, etc. Very distinct and tough to miss!
Been waiting for this song. They're voices are so good together.
I love this song. I remember listening to this with my mom. Patti has a great voice but Michael McDonald's voice is fantastic and so smooth. I Keep Forgetting how great is voice is.
Michael McDonald was a singer for the Doobie Brothers, with very good pipes.
Michael is top 10 all time male vocalist. Not to mention his talent on songwriting and the piano. Talent on loan from God.
Patti's a piece of work, isn't she! Now PLEASE LISTEN to Morgan James with Postmodern Jukebox covering Steven Tyler's "Dream On". She and PMJ absolutely slay the song - she was trained in opera at Juilliard and then went on to musical theater and now sings R&B and covers many songs to great effect. Then react to The Warning, a power trio formed by three sisters who are taking the You Tube and concert trail by storm! Listen to their songs "Choke" and "Evolve". This would be a Fantastic Female Friday!!! Please - you are missing something spectacular that I have now suggested at least 50 times and many agree with me, y'all!!!!! Be there or be square!!
Yes! I have to listen to Morgan and PMJ or start to suffer withdrawal - I get chills every time.
Didn't know that. I never heard her say that. Thanks
Morgan James is fucking amazing. Her voice is beyond and hat a looker.
Oh I LOVE Michael McDonald! Not just the really unique timbre of his voice, but the incredible licks and runs that are so full of blues and soul. A really great R&B singer. Before going solo, he was in Steely Dan for a while, and then the Doobie Brothers, two of my favorite bands. Great songs, beautifully arranged and wonderfully executed. Have you guys done Steely Dan?
The presentation is split because they actually recorded it in two different locations. They were not in the Studio together. Beautiful song.
